I am currently taking care of my mom in another state, and I'm only able to work at my house on select days. When I called The Mulch Center, I told them I would need the ten yards of premium mulch dropped after a specific time (to avoid my tenants), and on the exact day I specified, in order for me to put it to use. The Much Center managed everything very smoothly. They noted on my invoice for the driver to not call me on the day of delivery (because I would be on a flight), and the driver dropped the mulch in the exact place requested. This company (Previous) lets you pay over the phone and then gives the products to landscapers without verifying their identity. I lost over $3500 from the person that picked up the product. Receipts were originally not provided to me, the purchaser. Since then, the owner has contacted me to resolve this and the company is willing to provide receipts and the name of the company who picked up and scammed me. They have agreed to amend their policy to require a copied photo ID of the pickup person. Originally they were to continue to support and protect the middle man, but given this unfortunate circumstance, they are agreeing to work with the purchaser to catch any potential fraud and theft from homeowners. Jimmy is the owner who called me to resolve the issue, provide the name, and provide the receipts to me. I am happy that they are going to take photocopies of the ID cards so that this doesn't happen with them/through them with landscape scammers. read more

This is the 1st year using Mulch Center, and my feelings are mixed. We have many flower and garden beds. I was looking for 12 cu yards delivered to my home that I would spread myself. On a positive sign, they had a variety of mulch blends to choose from. Their prices were competitive, and they were able to delay delivery a few days with 36-hour notice due to forecasted bad weather. On the other side, the mulch itself a lot of shredded small hard and soft plastic pieces mixed into the product. I was continually picking them out before before spreading. Also, some of the mulch after just a couple weeks down is already starting to show some of the white mold that I've seen before. When not addressed immediately, it can spread quickly. So, that's additional maintenance I'll be having to deal with. For next year, I am on the fence whether to use them again. I'll definitely shop around. I enjoy my yard and want it looking good all summer. If you do use Mulch Center, do a search for coupons. I found one online that essentially covered my delivery charge. read more

Another review mentions this place is not for the end consumer. I have to agree based on my visit. I had assumed otherwise, because of the fact that they sell bagged products. I did have a good delivery experience when ordering yards of mulch and soil. The mulch is good quality but the compost blend is not. I filled a raised bed with the compost blend and had poor results. I had rescued the bed by regularly adding liquid fertilizer. Leave The Mulch Center to landscapers. Buy OMRI certified soil. Then my mulch magically disappeared over the next year and this year I knew that I needed to up my game. Might be fine for delivery or installation, but not DIY friendly. Went to pick up soil in a personal truck today and needed less than a minute to throw a tarp over my load and a driver in the mulch center truck (old white guy with a mustache) started yelling at us to tarp somewhere else. There was an older gentleman in a BMW car blocking the scales and keeping landscaping trucks from getting into the loading area. Not me. I always used here for mulch or soil and was planning on picking up loads for neighbors this year. If you're a landscaper or paying the expensive truck delivery rate they value you as a customer. If you are a DIYer picking up a loose load yourself go somewhere else they don't value you as a customer. Didn't spend a ton of money here volume-wise but always purchased here when I did need something. read more

We called and had a load of top soul delivered with very little notice on a Friday so that we were able to spread it over the weekend. The quality of the top soil seemed very high with no rocks and it was screened down to a very small particle size. The grass seed we planted on it has taken very well. Exceptional service We have been getting deliveries of various products from The Mulch Center since 2008 and we have always been pleased with the product quality and the delivery service. In the spring of 2021 for the first time we requested a split delivery with 4 yards of planting bed mix and 4 yards of jobsite chips. That saved us the time of managing two separate deliveries and the expense of two separate deliveries. The driver arrived the next day in a shiny new truck. He was able to unload the products into two separate piles exactly where we wanted them. We gave him a nice tip and we went back into our house. The next thing that happened was we heard and felt a huge thump. We looked at each other and asked, "What was that?" My husband went outside to find the corner gutters of our garage mashed and the driver taking photos of the damage. The driver felt awful and apologized repeatedly. Within 30 minutes a manager from The Mulch Center called us to let us know that an estimator from a roofing company would be over later in the afternoon. We were concerned that the estimator might suggest fixing the damage by hammering out the crunched metal. We were relieved when he told us that since we had seamless gutters with leaf guards the entire runs leading up to the damaged corner would have to be replaced. Here is the amazing part. The roofing crew was on site the next morning and within 24 hours of the damage, the corner was fixed with the same quality materials as the original. The crew took photos to show their work and invited us out to inspect it. After they left, the Mulch Center manager called us to verify that we were happy with the repair. We were still in a little bit of shock over how quickly and how well the repair had been made but we were able to share with him that the speed and quality of the repair surpassed all expectations. I would not recommend this place. The "planting bed mix" that I ordered that supposedly contains a mix of top soil, compost, sand and leaf mulch is the worst soil I ever worked with. I do not believe there is anything else than dirt in it since I tested it and it's deficient in all N, P and K... All the plants (direct seedlings and transplants) that I put in there stopped growing and died within weeks... I had to add a lot of extra compost and grass mulch to salvage this season's harvest... read more

Horrible service. I ordered mulch and dirt to be delivered to my house. When they made the delivery their truck was leaking oil heavily onto my driveway. I called the company and sent pictures them. They said they would get back to me and they didn't. I ended up calling 4 times over a two week period and I never received a call back. Three weeks go by and a guy shows up with a hose to try and clean it off. It didn't clean much off and he says it doesn't matter because my driveway is asphalt and there's oil in asphalt. That is true but the oil spill actually changes the mixture and makes the asphalt lose strength and overtime it will break apart. Driveway is only a year old so very disappointing. This year we decided to order a truck load of soil and mulch instead of buying bags from Home Depot, and let me tell you it is way more convenient and easier than loading bags to a cart, to the car and unload them afterwards. The price is basically the same or cheaper, even with the delivery fee, but with the plus of not having the entire hassle of a trip to HD and cutting each bag individually. The quality is amazing, the only work with organic products. The customer service is also great. Bill just deliveries 7 tons of dirt like it was not a big deal. He was really careful of the surrounding of where he had to unload and he even helped me moving some heavy stuff out of the way. The best place for mulch and soil. They delivered immediately and I got an excellent product (compost screen) which I used to fill flower beds that have eroded over several years. So far we are extremely happy with the business and product. Very reasonable. Tatiana was extremely helpful in choosing the right material for our needs as I am no pro. I wish they had an installation service too. I've always used landscapers in the past for this sort of thing but they're too busy to be timely (not to mention $$). So, my tips if you care to read and you are a new to bulk orders (like me): a) I moved 4 yds myself with a deep wheelbarrow and PLASTIC coal shovel (metal shovels will scrape up your driveway), then raked it all out. It's not for the faint of heart. 4 yards is a lot of material. It took more than 2 hours of hard work to move around our 1/4 acre lot plus cleanup time. A yard, maybe two, much more manageable. b) These materials can stain driveways even w/o rain so get an extra large heavy duty tarp. I used too small/lightweight a tarp (8x10) and the PLASTIC shovel destroyed it. That said, it was much easier to shovel off the concrete directly and three days of off/on showers & storms that followed cleaned it up OK. c) BE SURE YOU HAVE DRY WEATHER! Working with the mulches is 3x harder when wet! And working with the composts or soils - forget it! You have mud. One hell of a mess. You need dry weather and dry compost or soil to move and spread. d) If in doubt about your abilities, arrange for a landscaper to install the materials you order and have delivered to your property from Mulch Center. I've had several landscapers bring materials to our house in the past, and I've never been nearly as happy with their stuff as I was with the Mulch Center's compost screen. Also that way you know how much you're REALLY getting (YES, some landscapers will skim or cheat you, and resell leftover products YOU already paid for to other customers for double profits). read more

Being a landscape designer, I have been asked to help with many projects. There have been a few that have had their fair share of challenges, including a project for a non profit dog kennel in Riverwoods called Orphans of the Storm. They had wanted to create a Dog Agility park area on their grounds for the dogs to enjoy to honor a volunteer that passed away from West Nile Virus. As the project progressed, we knew we would need good quality mulch that would not hurt the dogs feet. I knew exactly who to call. Super, super easy to work with, and provide excellent advice. I called them up, not sure what exactly I needed or how much. Denise was kind and understanding as she talked through their different products. Then she helped me figure out what quantity I needed. Delivery was a breeze. The driver met me early, as rain was suddenly in the forecast. He deposited a neat mound of woodchips in precisely the right spot in less than 8 minutes, and seemed almost embarrassed to accept a tip he most absolutely deserved. They were informed by rightful owner of where it had to be delivered to and instead of picking it up, it now sits on my driveway up to my garage door for two days. We ordered 5 tons of dirt (with compost mixed in) and 11 yards of the cedar mulch at the end of May. If you have a big project, like we did (we bought our house 2 years ago and the front and back yard needed a lot of work), I cannot recommend The Mulch Center enough. Everyone is so friendly and helpful and the prices are VERY reasonable. I priced out Mulch and dirt with Lurvey's and The Chalet and the Mulch Center was significantly cheaper. We had our delivery scheduled for a Thursday, but the forecast called for thunderstorms on Friday, so I called to see if there was any way we could have the delivery on Wednesday. I spoke to a very nice gal on the phone who did some digging and was able to accommodate our request. I was VERY grateful (it didn't end up raining, of course).
