The Hay is an interesting 9 hole golf course right beside the Pebble Beach golf club. As an Eagle level volunteer for the US Women's Open (USWO) 2023, I was treated to free round of golf on the recently TIger Woods renovation of The Hay. The course itself is very nice with a beautiful new clubhouse/bar/restaurant. The course did not have any hole more than 80+ yards long. The course itself is laid out on a not so gently sloping hill. The yardages was clearly marked on the tee markers. The greens were in excellent condition and the rough was Pebble Beach level rough. A little care should be taken navigating the course as there are some tight spots were errant golf balls can be a problem. The greens were very small with many having multiple tiers and were quite slick. The uphill holes hid the pin locations very well and created huge false fronts that needed to be negotiated. The views were of course million dollar views. On the plus side, the course is challenging to say the least and a good test for any golfers short game and putting skills. On the negative side, it would take a couple of visits to get use to the layout of the course and at $65 per round, that would be cost prohibitive. Using mats on the tee boxes is understandable but it made it more difficult to control the distances of my shots as a first time visitor. I am not too sure that I will pay the green fees to play another round on this course.

Loaner golf bags so you don't have to carry all your clubs and your big bag.

Played The Hay for the first time and had an amazing time! It was fun not just because this is a well made par 3 course but also because I didn't feel rushed. I got to focus / work on my timing. As a beginner (for the last 20 years! lol) I prefer to play par 3 courses. This one is the best course I've played so far. It's short yet challenging. The place is well maintained and It overlooks the bay. The people that work there are just as amazing! Our starter, Juan, upon realizing it's our first time playing at The Hay, took his time to walk us to the first hole and photographed me and my husband. I'm sure I'll be back here.

Excellent short game golf experience! Me, my son and my 5 year old grandson totally enjoyed golfing the 9 holes here -the views take your breath away! It is an easy course to walk, very well designed, and you need a minimum of clubs. My son and I combined ours-each oh us brought a pitch, sand, putter and he a 6 iron I brought my 4 hybrid. Our grandson has his own tiny set of clubs. Lots of people walked holding 3 or 4 clubs in their hands -no golf bag. We were able to finish in about an hour as it was not crowded at all. Hay staff say it can take usually around 1 1/2 hours. I believe the longest hole was under 110 yards. Golf and enjoy! Hey it's Pebble Beach!

Flew into Monterey, felt like stepping off a private jet onto the tarmac, this is how the 1% lives. We golfed at Pebble Beach (bucket list) one day and Spyglass the second day (another bucket list item). The golf was picture perfect, the 18th hole on Pebble right along the ocean, drives to remember for a lifetime. Both courses were beautiful and everything was first class all the way. You are assigned a caddy, just like the pros, really fun. I think these guys make more than doctors, big dollars fall into their hands, but they make it enjoyable and fun. This is the kind of trip you dream about and it did not disappoint. The restaurants were 5 stars, ribeyes/steaks and seafood every night, even the breakfast spot we went to in the morning was amazing, cinnamon rolls the size of dinner plates. The Hotel had a gym that was better than many gyms you pay a membership for, new, huge, great equipment, great views. A spa with a steam room, locker room and showers, wood lockers, old money style, Just the way you picture it when living it up. Every dream sports car/luxury car parked in front of the hotel. My four stars is not anything to do with the experience, I would not trade it for the World and am very, very grateful for the opportunity to experience it. The golf, the hotel, the service, the restaurants, etc. first class all the way. Where I struggle a bit is just the excess here and the expense of a trip like this, I would have never spent this kind of money if it was not connected to building a Business relationship. I spent Easily over $30,000 for us all. Amazing, but excessive. Enjoy!

Although it's on the Del Monte Forest side and no Ocean holes, the course is still beautiful and challenging with a mix of long and shorter holes, with sloping fairways, lots of bunkers, and difficult greens where you need to be strategic on approach shots, so it helps to play here a few times to get used to them. The course was in terrific shape today and pace was very good...finishing in a 4.5 hour round despite our group having lost a few balls along the way in the woods or thick native areas. I will say there were a few changes since I last played and I didn't remember it having so many waste bunkers everywhere the last time I came, which was at least 7 years ago. Although many people walk, I enjoyed having a cart because it's a rolling course and it can be quite a walk on a few holes to the next tee. I do wonder why they still don't have GPS on their carts. I would also suggest that they add some EV car chargers in the parking lot. Many of us drive 2 hours or more to get here so it would be a nice touch to be able to charge up the car a bit during a round, or while having a beverage or two in Porters before hitting the road! It's been too long since I last visited and I won't wait that long again for sure!

How private? 1100 members and you can only play if you are a member (must be invited) or invited as a guest. Now I have played MPCC , Spyglass, Pebble (twice) , Cypress and Poppy. If you are fortunate to play this course, the Dunes is actually the more prestigious over the Ocean/Shore course. Most members walk with a push cart. Although I am used to carrying my own bag, I am glad I used a push cart. Our round started at 11am and ended at almost 3pm on the dot. The course has likely the most undulating greens I have ever played, so bring your short game and be prepared for 3 putts. As a middle handicapper I highly recommend playing the blue tees. The white tees were probably a little too close for me. I played true to my 17 handicap bogeying every hole except the 18 handicap signature 14th hole. The amenities were all there. Tees, ball markers, balls, score cards, water, towels, etc. They even had golf carts available on the 11th hole in case you were running late or got tired and wanted to ride the rest of the way. If you are knit-picking the only bad part is a restaurant that isn't available til the 12th hole or someone driving around with a food cart. Some points of note. There is no signage telling you what hole you are on so it is good to be playing with a member. Covid protocols are in place so it is wise to bring ID and vaccination. No shorts or jeans are allowed. Pants and collared shirts are required and the shirts must be tucked in. Women must also wear gear that goes to the calf. My friend's wife was wearing expensive designer jeans and even she knew to go inside and buy a whole new wardrobe for the day. The course was well manicured and one of the most naturally beautiful courses I have ever played. All the staff were exceptional, friendly, and attentive.
