Underwhelming course for the most part. The back 9 is scenic, but nothing breath taking. Greens can be deceptive, a lot of breaks that you wouldn't expect. Definitely a walkable course if you want to get your steps in. Drove from San Jose, but wouldn't do it again just for the sake of playing the course.

Condition of sand trap. Weeds, no sand to speak of, etc

I hadn't been out to PG Golf for about 25 years. Visited today with a local men's group that plays excellent courses on the Monterey Peninsula. PG Golf is called by locals "Poor Man's Pebble Beach" wow, I get it because of the holes on the golf water but on a 1-10 scale it's a 4 at best. The locals will shoot me for this review because I'm taking a shot at their course---and only because it's provably the worst maintained course on the peninsula. The teeing areas are all chewed up. Barely a blade of grass anywhere. Couldn't the ground crew throw some sand over the Hugh divots?the fairways weren't cut today, very shaggy, Lots of unfilled divots everywhere. Corded off areas still very wet from the last rains. Poor soil composition not allowing for water absorption into the soil. Last the greens were slow like trying to putt through a shag rug. Not good. So a pretty piece of property not being utilized to its max. So much potential. The City should give it more priority. Increase budget. Fat chance but if we all get behind it who knows?

My drive on par 4 hole #4 or 5 (?).

Great ocean views from the course. The tee boxes, fairways, and greens are in great shape (played one April 6th 2025).

Absolutely loved this course! From the moment we arrived, the staff was welcoming and helpful, making us feel right at home. The layout is beautiful and challenging in all the right ways, with stunning ocean views on several holes that make it hard to focus on your swing! The fairways and greens were in excellent condition--clearly very well maintained. It's one of those courses where you feel like every hole is memorable. Definitely a must-play if you're in the area!

Spent my birthday at PG this last Monday and honestly was the best golf experience I've had. The hospitality and warmth we were greeted with was amazing. Playing at other courses I've felt sometimes uncomfortable or even out of place but not here. I have to say Dustin made all the difference. Because of him and the rest of the amazing staff my birthday was the best! Thank you so much Pacific Grove and Thank you Dustin for being a great person!

The spectacular location of this golf course gives it the sobriquet, "The Poor Man's Pebble Beach." The views and structure of the course allow for a fun game, with challenges along the way. There is usually parking, but the place is always active and busy. Lots of wild life roams the greens, and you will see deer and birds throughout the grounds. The course also abuts the Monterey Cemetery, so be prepared for some quiet neighbors as you play. We love the scenery and the ambience, but be warned that it can be very chilly, and a stiff ocean breeze is a usual accompaniment to any game or venture onto the driving range. I particularly like the ocean views and the view of the lighthouse from the driving range and try to pay it a visit whenever we are in town! The Point Pinos Grill next to the parking lot also adds a fun option for eating and relaxing after a sporty day!

Not bad, not great. Played at 0830 and foggy! Great weather. Santana, our playing partner who is 13 just started off with a hole in 1 on the first hole. Nice track but a lot of wear and crazy busy. Friendly staff. One and done here.

Even though this is the first time I have written a review about Pacific Grove I play here almost once a year and each time I have enjoyed myself. Of course some days I play better and others I truly suck. So on a beautiful Sunday morning and with a new set of irons in the bag, I ventured forth in the unknown. Honestly I played better that I thought while still trying to get familiar with the new clubs. Having said that I did almost drive the holes on 4, 11 and 13. Since I was playing a tournament with my club, I did apologize to the guys in front of me for the intrusion. Aside from the golf, the weather was absolutely amazing with the sun shining on blue skies and a light breeze blowing from the Pacific making things just a little cooler. Honestly, I have never had a bad round of golf here and the course is in very good condition and with the good food, I will definitely venture back here again.

The five star if for making my visit experience to Monterey a perfect one. The staff was very professional and friendly and the course was super fun to play, considering that I'm a tourist visitor squeezing in a golf round with my wife.

Great course with a great price. 4.5 on the golf. I'd pay double if they had better service and a decent sit down restaurant and bar.

How is the range closed when it's 70 degrees/no moisture and sunny on a busy day? I mean what are we doing here.

(Rustic Canyon is runner up, but it's not that close). They are stunning in every way and then some other ways, too. Wow. Just wow. How private? 1100 members and you can only play if you are a member (must be invited) or invited as a guest. Now I have played MPCC , Spyglass, Pebble (twice) , Cypress and Poppy. If you are fortunate to play this course, the Dunes is actually the more prestigious over the Ocean/Shore course. Most members walk with a push cart. Although I am used to carrying my own bag, I am glad I used a push cart. Our round started at 11am and ended at almost 3pm on the dot. The course has likely the most undulating greens I have ever played, so bring your short game and be prepared for 3 putts. As a middle handicapper I highly recommend playing the blue tees. The white tees were probably a little too close for me. I played true to my 17 handicap bogeying every hole except the 18 handicap signature 14th hole. The amenities were all there. Tees, ball markers, balls, score cards, water, towels, etc. They even had golf carts available on the 11th hole in case you were running late or got tired and wanted to ride the rest of the way. If you are knit-picking the only bad part is a restaurant that isn't available til the 12th hole or someone driving around with a food cart. Some points of note. There is no signage telling you what hole you are on so it is good to be playing with a member. Covid protocols are in place so it is wise to bring ID and vaccination. No shorts or jeans are allowed. Pants and collared shirts are required and the shirts must be tucked in. Women must also wear gear that goes to the calf. My friend's wife was wearing expensive designer jeans and even she knew to go inside and buy a whole new wardrobe for the day. The course was well manicured and one of the most naturally beautiful courses I have ever played. All the staff were exceptional, friendly, and attentive.

Love how they have a back room to set the buffet up in and keep your stuff in. I got an amazing package through them although I booked my wedding 2 years in advance and I know they changed things so not sure what the current rates are but I was ao grateful to be able to have an affordable wedding in the Monterey area. So much food at our buffet with cake included. And everything tasted amazing. Even the appetizers were mouth watering. The drinks are also great - and strong! They did signature cocktails as well for me. They let us set an amount for the bar with certain selections for open bar and then guests could do cash bar for top shelf selections if they wanted and both options were utilized. They have a fully stocked bar with so much to offer and the bar staff is the absolute best. They were very easy to work with, no scary overwhelming contracts, just good communication. There were staff changes during my time as a bride but both my main points of contact were easy to work with throughout the process. They let us pull up right by the back room and store our wedding items in the back the night before and come the next day to get everything- very generous of them. Any time I needed to discuss anything, they were responsive. They also let us do a free tasting - we were seriously full all day, such great food! Everyone is so nice. I am giving 5 stars but the only hiccupy things that happened were they originally told me the timeline for my wedding would be 5 pm - 11 pm but then later on they said they needed to change it to end at 10 pm due to noise ordinances. They let me start at 4 though and luckily I hadn't sent out invitations yet so it wasn't a big deal but I had to change all my other contracts with all my other vendors which was kinda annoying. It did push up the whole day such as getting ready, first look photos - a wedding timeline is a very sensitive thing and even changing it by an hour took extra planning time with all my vendors so that's not a small thing to have a bride change. But it all worked out and I preferred the earlier timeline actually. They also only give 2 hours of setup time, but you can stage a lot of things in the back room so its totally doable - we had to be really organized and prepared for tight setup time. Also there was overlap with golfers still being there and my guests arriving so even though they have a huge parking lot, the parking lot was very filled up during the guest arrival time which worried me a little but it all worked out with everyone finding a spot. I was also told by some of my guests that dinner service felt a bit rushed, like staff grabbing away plates while people were still finishing their food. I didn't witness this first hand so I truly dont know what was up with that but I had a whole table of no shows due to a family emergency so we had plenty of extra food and I truly hope people could even get seconds if they wanted. I dont like hearing that food was literally being pulled away. However, there were so many compliments from my guests about the food, staff, and experience. People loved the cake and they gave me a custom cake flavor so very appreciative. Overall, everyone loved the venue. They leave drapery up and even though its definitely an older building (it passes well for a rustic vibe) they work on drawing your eye to the areas that they uplevel plus the ocean views and huge windows are stunning. I would 1000 percent recommend this venue. Not sure what current rates are or what changes they may have made since I booked. I hope they keep costs reasonable- the wedding industry is so tough and I get it, and they could charge more, and I know it is a ton of work but its so lovely that couples could literally have their dream wedding wiithout feeling price gauged. They are very fair there and that's such a rare thing to be able to say. I truly love that they seem to really care about their clients. I am super grateful and love it there and will go there every year for my anniversary dinner!

Like many golfers seeking the ultimate golf swing "fix" I've been fortunate to have lessons with some of the very best instructors, Butch Harmon, George Gankas, professionals at my home course at the Olympic Club...all extremely good. Countless repetitions later, you start to understand the end game because you feel things you've not felt before. Sounds strange but true. Scott claims one benefit for me is a potential gain of 40 yards. I didn't take the lesson because of that outcome. And if it so happens then another kudo to Scott. Although it's on the Del Monte Forest side and no Ocean holes, the course is still beautiful and challenging with a mix of long and shorter holes, with sloping fairways, lots of bunkers, and difficult greens where you need to be strategic on approach shots, so it helps to play here a few times to get used to them. The course was in terrific shape today and pace was very good...finishing in a 4.5 hour round despite our group having lost a few balls along the way in the woods or thick native areas. I will say there were a few changes since I last played and I didn't remember it having so many waste bunkers everywhere the last time I came, which was at least 7 years ago. Although many people walk, I enjoyed having a cart because it's a rolling course and it can be quite a walk on a few holes to the next tee. I do wonder why they still don't have GPS on their carts. I would also suggest that they add some EV car chargers in the parking lot. Many of us drive 2 hours or more to get here so it would be a nice touch to be able to charge up the car a bit during a round, or while having a beverage or two in Porters before hitting the road!
