Love this course, but be warned, the crows are smarr and fearless and will swoop into your cart and carry off anything that looks like it may have food . That being said, I have been coming here at least once a year for past 7 years and is truly a Golf outing like no other. The front 9 plays more traditional, winding through the neighborhood with some decently challenging holes beacuse of the pin placement, and trees. The back 9 becomes an entirely different course, with holes providing majestic views of the ocean crashing onto rocks, no trees, but wind ,and wild out of bounds areas. One of its nicknames is poor mans Pebble Beach, the cost of a round with cart ona weekday ran me just over a $100, which is worth every penny. Carts are standard types, but have no onboard GPS. People working in the Pro Shop were friendly. Only thing that keeps me from giving it 5 stars, is the on site restaurant has closed since my last visit, so there was no food, or a beverage cart . read more

Of the Weather is clear the course is beautiful. Yes the back nine is the main attraction. It is on the pricey side $90 to walk on weekend vs $60 on weekday. The front 9 is inland but does have a nice view of the bay. Short course . The first hole is a par 3. Regular told me it does get backed up . Back nine has two par 4 less than 300. But the view is what you pay for . Poor man's pebble beach . Favorite hole is 16. Downhill par 4 looking straight into the ocean . Also number 12 that plays along the road and ocean . Underwhelming course for the most part. The back 9 is scenic, but nothing breath taking. Greens can be deceptive, a lot of breaks that you wouldn't expect. Definitely a walkable course if you want to get your steps in. Drove from San Jose, but wouldn't do it again just for the sake of playing the course. read more

I hadn't been out to PG Golf for about 25 years. Visited today with a local men's group that plays excellent courses on the Monterey Peninsula. PG Golf is called by locals "Poor Man's Pebble Beach" wow, I get it because of the holes on the golf water but on a 1-10 scale it's a 4 at best. The locals will shoot me for this review because I'm taking a shot at their course---and only because it's provably the worst maintained course on the peninsula. The teeing areas are all chewed up. Barely a blade of grass anywhere. Couldn't the ground crew throw some sand over the Hugh divots?the fairways weren't cut today, very shaggy, Lots of unfilled divots everywhere. Corded off areas still very wet from the last rains. Poor soil composition not allowing for water absorption into the soil. Last the greens were slow like trying to putt through a shag rug. Not good. So a pretty piece of property not being utilized to its max. So much potential. The City should give it more priority. Increase budget. Fat chance but if we all get behind it who knows? read more

Absolutely loved this course! From the moment we arrived, the staff was welcoming and helpful, making us feel right at home. The layout is beautiful and challenging in all the right ways, with stunning ocean views on several holes that make it hard to focus on your swing! My review is not for course itself, it's my regular course and I love it. I've been a Monarch Member for several years and I play nearly weekly. My review is for Eric, a starter in the pro shop. He's sarcastic, condescending, negative and never has anything nice to say. He clearly dislikes his job and the patrons who play the course. If I knew his hours I would absolutely avoid booking a tee time during his shift. Management should really take a look at the faces in their pro shop, first impressions are everything and there are a lot of other options for golf on the Monterey Peninsula. read more

Pacific Grove Golf Links is one of my favorite golf courses. I've lived in Pacific Grove for many years and have been playing here for over 30 years. As a Monarch Member, I often bring guests, especially friends from out of town, and I always look forward to sharing this wonderful course with them. The course itself is fantastic, and most of the staff are friendly and welcoming. However, there is one consistent negative factor in my experiences: Eric, who works the front counter. Unfortunately, every interaction I've had with him has been marked by negativity, sarcasm, or an overall lack of enthusiasm. He consistently comes across as unhappy in his role, which creates an unpleasant first impression for members and guests alike. I've spoken with others who have had similar experiences with Eric, so I know it's not just me. I even raised this concern with manager Neil Sauer, though he did not offer much in response. At this point, I've found that avoiding booking tee times when Eric is working leads to a much more enjoyable overall experience. Pacific Grove Golf Links is a gem, and I hope the front desk experience can reflect the same level of quality as the course itself. read more

Everything was working out to be a great day then the employees took my rented clubs at 805 when he said 815 when I was walking up to the 17th green. He could have let me finish but decided to take the clubs even after we brought up that we had 10 minutes left. Completely ruined the moment we were having. Spent my birthday at PG this last Monday and honestly was the best golf experience I've had. The hospitality and warmth we were greeted with was amazing. Playing at other courses I've felt sometimes uncomfortable or even out of place but not here. I have to say Dustin made all the difference. The spectacular location of this golf course gives it the sobriquet, "The Poor Man's Pebble Beach." The views and structure of the course allow for a fun game, with challenges along the way. There is usually parking, but the place is always active and busy. Lots of wild life roams the greens, and you will see deer and birds throughout the grounds. The course also abuts the Monterey Cemetery, so be prepared for some quiet neighbors as you play. We love the scenery and the ambience, but be warned that it can be very chilly, and a stiff ocean breeze is a usual accompaniment to any game or venture onto the driving range. I particularly like the ocean views and the view of the lighthouse from the driving range and try to pay it a visit whenever we are in town! The Point Pinos Grill next to the parking lot also adds a fun option for eating and relaxing after a sporty day! read more

I played golf last Saturday the seventh had a tee time of 1:15 PM. We finished at 5:30 PM, which was dark already. When I returned my cart, there were two young gentlemen there. I had accidentally left a very nice expensive JBL Bluetooth speaker in the cart. Impossible to miss it. I called Sunday morning and spoke with a gentleman I believe by the name of Larry, who said he would look into it. To date they have not returned the speaker. I think these two gentlemen may have stolen it and kept it for themselves, which is sad. Whatever the case is, it's definitely not good service! I'm sure people leave items in the carts all the time and they should hold onto those for the clients. read more

Even though this is the first time I have written a review about Pacific Grove I play here almost once a year and each time I have enjoyed myself. Of course some days I play better and others I truly suck. So on a beautiful Sunday morning and with a new set of irons in the bag, I ventured forth in the unknown. Honestly I played better that I thought while still trying to get familiar with the new clubs. Having said that I did almost drive the holes on 4, 11 and 13. Since I was playing a tournament with my club, I did apologize to the guys in front of me for the intrusion. Aside from the golf, the weather was absolutely amazing with the sun shining on blue skies and a light breeze blowing from the Pacific making things just a little cooler. Honestly, I have never had a bad round of golf here and the course is in very good condition and with the good food, I will definitely venture back here again. read more

The man that answered the phone when we tried to book our tee time was incredibly rude and impatient. I felt like i was being judged the entire time. The greens were, tacky to say the least. fairways were quite high, almost as tall as our front lawn. so many holes in the fairway, most were unattended to. i believe that this golf course should hire a new superintendent and all new staff. the fairways were HORRENDOUSLY slow. not a fan, my 85 year old parents could play faster than i did. over all a HORRIBLE course. never coming back #LiberalForLife #Pride ‍ read more

What a beautiful course! Of course it's not pebble, but the back 9 are on the ocean and have amazing views! Great value for the price. Drinks in the clubhouse are outrageous, though. At the cafe, I ordered a breakfast burrito. It was in a tub on the counter and was ice cold, that was gross. Staff at the clubhouse, bar and cafe were all super nice. Truly a hidden gem. I've lived in the bay area for 11 years and never heard of this course. It's clearly overshadowed by all the Pebble beach area courses. Sure it's a bit of a muni, not overly long and the front 9 can be a little pedestrian, but the back 9 are fantastic with many views of the ocean and artfully designed holes. It's a great deal also for the price. All of us loved this course, it's great bang for the buck and you'll have a great time! read more

Beautiful back nine, beat up muni set-up. Many nice people work here, but shop staff is often rude and poorly trained. Went there on January 1st for 9:40A tee-time and was told that power carts were not allowed - and that pull carts were not available. Desk clerk was smug and unhelpful. In short, PGGL is a typical Muni golf course on the Monterey Peninsula. They could become much better if they made the effort. They won't. read more

This one of our favorite courses. It's managed well and usually runs on time. The bar and restaurant is good but service is sometimes slow. The back nine has incredible views but keep your food hidden because between the clever crows and gulls you'll go hungry. read more

We couldn't justify paying to play at Pebble Beach or the other surrounding clubs. So glad we "settled" for Pacific Grove. Conditions were great - for the price we thought they wouldn't be good, but we were pleasantly surprised. Well known as the "poor mans Pebble", this course is known as one of the best values in golf. But that doesn't give it a free pass from criticism. The presentation of the pro shop and the snack/bar/grill looks great. However, the results are a little different. First, I asked for a bottle water, and received a souvenir bottle filled with tap water. I'm sure this is some weird Monterey save plastic type rule, but the water was trash. The food was overpriced and mediocre as well. Second, I wish I remembered the guys name so I could publicly rip him, but I didn't have the thought at the time. No customer service skills, rude, and short with his interaction. He was working the afternoon on July 16th, blondish guy. If the course ever sees this post, let the guy know to get some manners and people skills if he's going to work at a well known course. Lastly, the golf. Not much needs to be said that hasn't been said. The front 9 is meh, unless your intrigued by 2 million dollar 1200 square foot homes and overpopulated deer. Because that's all you see. The back 9 is awesome, it's why you come here. Ocean views all around, surrounded by beauty. Still a great deal for what you get, but don't expect perfection. read more

This course has great view while being nicely maintained and you can't beat it for its price specially because I'm a youth on course member I have also met great people from other places while playing rounds here they are also very family friendly as we bring the whole family to ride along for the views. The only complain about the course is the back nine gets a bit cold but nothing an extra layer can't help. read more

Great golf course with a beautiful view BUT I highly suggest you bring your own alcohol. The bartender must of been new or needs more practice making drinks. Our drinks were all ICE with a DROP OF ALCOHOL. We ordered 2 margaritas and two shots coming to a total of $55!!! For that price we expected delicious drinks but we're hugely devastated. The bartender tried saving time by making both drinks in one cup and when he poured it to both cups WITH ICE ALREADY IN THE DRINK it only filled the cup half way then he added more ice to fill the cup...: he knew he messed up but his solution was to add more ice.... Awesome!! Relaxed atmosphere with the same views of Pebbles Beach. Deers and Geese abound. Perfect greens. We were traveling and wanted to get the Monterey experience and so glad we chose Pacific Grove over all the other locations. Staff was super helpful and the best part was being paired with an amazing couple Jenn and Pat who we definitely made good friendship. Horrible course. They have no nets protecting houses or cars driving by. The last hole is a hazard. It's on the Main Street with cars driving back and fourth and nothing to protect from a shot is going left or right. Not worth 100 dollars. It's very scary driving by that road seeing golf balls go left. I don't understand why they don't install a net on that last hole. It's a safety hazard it should be reported to authorities. EDIT ADD: Signs indicating it's the golfers responsibility for any damages doesn't protect the safety of someone that gets hit by a golf ball outside the course, it only protects the course from liability. read more

Hard to review, front 9 of this course is so beat up and so average that it almost made me lose my love for golf. After the turn however, you are met with one of the most scenic 9 holes I've seen on a public course. Course is a little rough in shape but still fun and challenging on the back. How is the range closed when it's 70 degrees/no moisture and sunny on a busy day? I mean what are we doing here.

I have heard of Pacific Grove Golf Links for many years so I was excited to finally get the opportunity to try it out as I was able to get a 3:30pm tee time. The pro didn't think we'd be able to finish but we were indeed able to play the 18th hole with the last rays of light. The front 9 is a typical inland muni course but the fairways were well groomed and plenty of trees to encourage you to keep it straight. My wife enjoyed the herds of deer walking about the course and we were able to get very close to a huge buck resting in the fairway. The greens were very green but were the slowest and bumpiest greens that I have ever played on. The putting was so bad that we took an automatic 2 putt as it really wasn't worth the effort of trying. We absolutely killed our putts yet they remained short of the hole. The back 9 was the reason people play the course as the views of the ocean were superb. The holes weren't very long whatsoever from the blue tees but if you strayed from the fairway, you would find lots of sand to enjoy. This is the only affordable public course outside of Laguna Seca so it's worth the time and money to play, I could only hope that I had an atypical bad experience with the bad greens. I'm not sure I'll play there again but I don't regret the experience. read more

Number 1 most overrated golf course I've ever played. I grew up in the area and had played this course a long time ago. I remembered not liking it which is why I hadn't been back in a long time. While playing other local courses I kept hearing people (usually visitors not locals) say how much they love this course. After hearing it enough times I decided to give it another try to see what all the hype is about. This is truly one of the worse courses in Monterey County. This course is in horrible condition. The tee boxes, fairways, greens, rough are all inconsistent with patches everywhere and mostly dirt. It honestly looks like they don't care about the course at all or even try to make it look nice. The layout of this course is the worst I've ever played. Most holes are short straight par 4s. Extremely boring layout. The tee times are way over priced. I paid less to play Poppy Hills which is a thousand times better course. The only reason people like this course is because a few holes on the back 9 you can see the ocean. Zero holes are on the ocean as the busy road is between the course and the beach. If you've never seen an ocean from a golf course I could understand appreciating this course but of all the ocean courses I've played this is by far the worst. I can almost guarantee I will never play this course again in my life. It is that bad that I truly can't imagine any reason to ever go back. I can't believe it has over 4 stars. This should be a 1 or 2 star course with maybe an extra star for being able to see the ocean. 3 stars is still too high for this dump. read more
