Always get greeted warmly by staff and feel like I'm a club member. Joe who was the starter was especially friendly - taking care of loading my bag into the cart and also noticed that my lunch bag was draped around a hybrid. I came back to my cart pleased that the bag was placed nicely in the compartment for personal belongings. The Duke's membership makes this place more worth playing. Theoretically, most people will probably get the membership for discounts at Spyglass and Spanish Bay, but Del Monte is a nice, laid back type of place for when you want a different vibe than the courses in the Pebble Beach area - to me I probably wouldn't drive a few hours to go play there for $130 but with the Duke's it's $56-72. The condition is still very good, but you'll just see a lot more weeds in the rough - this is pretty intentional by design and I actually can't believe this is the oldest golf course in operation west of the Mississippi River. In general, stay out of the rough as it grabs your clubs. It can also be difficult to find balls if you lose it in the rough. Sand is firm and takes well to shorter swings. Some green complexes have shelves so your approach needs to hit the right portion of the green. Food wise there's usually one person taking orders and running out the food and bussing tables (which they shouldn't as you should definitely bus your own table due to the available large trash bins and tray return). In other words, you may have to wait a few minutes before they return to the counter to take your order. Food is okay - smash burger was tasty but the bun is too soft and was a soggy mess. The chicken curry salad sandwich could use a little more curry powder but was definitely a way better experience than the smash burger. The person driving the beverage truck didn't even stop to ask if we wanted anything. I was sizing up my shot and they sped past before I could get a chance to flag them down. Overall, a good stop to use your Duke's club benefits (credit for food/beverage, discounted green fees, free round of golf for you and guest including cart, guest passes) and affordable with a relaxing vibe. read more

I'd say it's on the easier side in the range of difficulty compared to the other Pebble Beach golf courses, although the green is pretty fast. Coming from the Central Valley, it was a great experience playing on the coast. The fairways were lush and the greens were challenging. The design of this course doesn't bring you back to the clubhouse after 9 holes like most courses. They have a cart roaming around with food onboard, but if you want something she doesn't have, the order must go through her (that's what I was told) so just plan for that. Played this golf course yesterday was terrible. Cost was $300 for 2 people total ripoff. Fairways if you could find or reach them on average of at least 150 yards of nothing but weeds and rough before you even reached the fairway. The rough was so long you would think the PGA was playing there. It was just a terrible experience, especially for the cost and that they tell themselves as being a part of Pebble Beach total joke. It was a pretty nice Thursday morning for a free round of golf at Del Monte. I decided to treat a friend and we split the green fee. My free round did include a golf cart so that save us $25. It started out cool and a little cloudy and the course was in great condition. The fairways and greens were pristine but the rough was pretty heavy. Mos of the time the ball would be sitting down in the rough. The bunker were not too bad but there was definitely a small amount of sand and chances are you will hit the bottom which will either bounce or grab your club. The course is pretty short and many of the fairways were pretty tight. For the price it was a reasonable good deal or get the Duke's Club membership for additional discounts. In all honesty the last few times I played here more than 10 years ago I did have a hard time but I did have a good time this time and will plan to visit sometime later. read more

While the pro-shop welcome was charming and warm... it went down hill even faster than their "well regarded" (?) small/tough greens. I'll own my naivete in trusting the course at least had SOME 'Pebble Beach' vibe being part of the "Pebble Beach Company" (which now feels like a sucker punch). Sure I was looking for a lower priced round, but since when is 160$ (cart included) on an old track ("oldest west of the Mississippi" - NOT a selling point guys... another sucker punch!), with roughly 3 tractors on EVERY SINGLE hole, respectfully turning their sprinklers and engines off and on, ON EVERY single shot... LITERALLY 90% of my shots! Ugh. I suppose MONDAYS are 'crew' days at Del Monte. So it stung (baaad) when I now see $121.49 for a Wednesday morning time v. Monday during the same week. I was gouged over a 30% premium to play, and don't remember even seeing the ocean, much less enjoying it's breeze. The greens were competitive and fast, but I wish I'd have stayed with my instinct and played Bayonet or Black Horse. The place just felt like it's riding the wealthy wave and taking advantage 'drifting' it's neighbor course prices AND reputations, for what amounts to a very-VERY muni-like course experience. The carts didn't even have GPS. Sorry Del Monte, but I feel ripped off. You could have at least offered a price match. I do NOT recommend this even for a 1 & done experience. read more

My takeaways of the course - * Fast greens * many holes on the back 9 were narrow. Watch out for erratic shots from other holes. * the rough from the tee box was a very huge apron. Where's the fairway? I had over 12k steps according to my Apple Watch. * slow play. Took the four of us to finish in 4 1/2 hours. * friendly staff in the pro shop * bag drop. I was a little disappointed that the chipping area was closed, I guess they were preparing for a car show. Del Monte is a landmark course that has played an instrumental role in popularizing golf out West since its inception in 1897. The birthplace of the California State Amateur and the oldest course in continuous operation west of the Mississippi retains much of that classic charm today, challenging the game's best golfers with its small, sloping, old-school greens. Originally designed as a nine-hole course in 1897 by Charles E. Maud and expanded to 18 holes in 1902. THAT IS A LOT OF HISTORY! Bring layers, because your round can start cold with some fog/haze, but there is a good chance that it will give way to a beautiful sunny day, as was the case when I played. The fairways and greens were pristine but the rough can be a little heavy. Best to say in the fairway, LOL. The course is pretty short and many of the fairways are tight. I think this course is ideal for anyone with a handicap of 25 or better. For $100 it felt a tad expensive, but you can also get the Duke's Club membership for additional discounts. Old Del Monte is in some of its best condition in years. The fairways, greens, and bunkers are all what you'd hope for from a Pebble Beach Company property. The tee boxes are in decent shape as well. Pace of play is good due to the three or so marshals roaming the course - and they're fairly pleasant while doing their job, as well. Please know that coolers of any kind are not allowed; however, you need not worry as there is a serious fleet of beverage carts roaming around - and they are not at all intrusive. So, why not 5 stars? For the money, it's not the best value, per se, and as a "guest" I don't appreciate being scolded by the starters before even starting my round. Also, there were down one operating restroom on the course (and no port-o-potties.) read more

It also had recently been plugged and sanded and was not disclosed to me upon arrival. That being said, the course employees were really nice. Came here early Friday morning (4/7/23) and it was cart path only, so that kinda sucked. Not many golfers that morning, it was relaxing, yet fun. Didn't feel rushed compared to other times there's other golfers with tee times ahead of us, & right behind us. Came across the food & beverage cart and bought some breakfast burritos with coffee. The lady was out of burritos at 10:45 but she said she'd get some for us and she did, so that was wonderful! I had the sausage one and it was good. Husband had bacon, also very good. Coffees with Baileys was perfect to start our morning. All bathrooms seemed to be open & working, last time I was here, not all bathrooms were open so another good thing. We did come across some crazy erratic shots by other players at other holes on opposite sides so that's something to be careful with. I like coming here as it is literally down the hill from our house. Considering this is one of the oldest courses, and owned by pebble beach links, their are better looking ones, yet this one is not too bad, especially when it comes down to the price. $550 for a membership (it was time for hubby's renewal) or $150 for 1 tee time that day! read more

Amazing staff and great course, but entire experience ruined by entitled club members holding up every tee box instead of letting a solo player play through. If you hit your ball straight you will be just fine. The fairways and greens are maintained very well and bunkers are raked every morning. Great customer service . Course is in pretty good condition. Greens are speedy. The no golf cars to the parking lot is particularly inconvenient. As an 80+ couple, carrying two bags to a car not close to the entrance is obnoxious. The shuttle cart drove past me twice when arriving and was parked at the south end of the lot when departing. Maybe the driver was scheduled for a break. Overall a good golf experience. read more

My fiancé and I came for the day from Santa Cruz, unaware of the strict code- I was wearing Lulu Lemon - ok, So I'm ready to purchase a new skort, short pants whatever... THEY DEMAND PROPER GOLF ATTIRE, BUT THE SHOP DOES NOT SUPPLY ANY WOMEN'S PROPER GOLF ATTIRE!! The snotty sales women looked confused and suggested we go to golf mart... I felt humiliated and ready to give up. But we love golf, and luckily we came early enough to make it work. 2. We returned to the club for our tee time in our $250 "proper golf attire", and asked to speak with the manager. He basically told me: They are owned and operated by Pebble Beach golf... And came up with excuses as to why he couldn't do anything to help. 3. Del Monte you are Over-Rated. The course was nice, but not anything special, especially for the price! Your customer service needs improvement. This is Not pebble beach! Invest in some women's wear, it's 2021!!! We will Not be back. read more

updating to four stars because the course is in beautiful shape right now, from fairway to greens. the rough was kind weed-y but you aren't supposed to be off the fairway haha greens are challenging, but in a good way. some are huge, some are multi-tiered and a lot of them seem crowned so accurate putting is a must a little expensive $135 w/cart but there seem to be a lot of deals available on internet sites. it also qualifies for Duke's Club so if you're playing here and Spanish Bay a lot it's worth the membership/ everyone in the golf shop, plus the rangers, starters and grill staff are super nice looking forward to a return visit. soon! read more

This is a deceptively difficult golf course in Monterey, California. Mostly flat with lots of strategic bunkers. The frequent desolate dry areas look like long forced carries but are not. The back nine is overlooked by the Hyatt Regency with a green directly in front of an outdoor dining area. A little scary! As is typical, the Pro shop has few items for women. This is a disappointing trend I'm seeing in many golf courses. The people are very nice and welcoming. The breakfast was nicely cooked. read more

Absolute idiots in action. This is my first post ever, but I need to leave it. After driving 4 hours to get to a 2pm tee time for my two junior golfers to play nine holes for a practice round, we're told we cannot take a cart. The last cart goes out at noon... I get it, they want carts in by dark so if you're playing 18... last cart goes out at noon. This is a great opportunity for people to use their brain and make a situational leadership decision. Our cart would still be back before the 18 hole carts come in... Anyway, I have a torn meniscus and my two juniors have a huge tournament this weekend. Rather than giving us a cart for nine holes, they play clueless idiots and send us away. I cannot stand people who can't think!!!! Rules above common sense... read more

This course is living on name and location alone right now. It's overpriced for what it is, it's basically a decent muni. There is no driving range and no restaurant so plan accordingly. It's a little too brown for a course so close to the water. The fairways are tight and the greens small and fast. It would have been okay for half the price. read more

Del Monte is the oldest course in continuous operation wast of the Mississippi. It shows its age with maturity and grace. The course is well maintained, lots of mature growth surrounding and amongst the course. BEcause of this it is considered a fairly narrow course with protected greens and some distinct challenges. Not as glorious as the seaside courses on 17 mile drive. But you are golfing in Monterey without paying Pebble prices. At $110, it is still pricey for the casual duffer. My recommendation is that if you are spending 4 or 5 days in the area to golf, come here first as a warm up them hit the big boys. You will learn some history of the area, get a little acquainted with some old school golfers, and have a nice day before you get truly pounded by the wind on the water. The golf course was in great shape and the speed of the round was great. It has that old school feel and you have to be straight of the tee to have a good second shot. OB comes into play quickly if you are wild of the tee. I have 2 complaints and the reason I give it 3 stars. 1. They don't have a driving range and for a golf course that is narrow and with small greens I believe it's desperately needed. 2. The maintenance crew was all over the course with loud equipment and directly in front of your next shot. I guess for good players it wouldn't matter as much but for beginners/ intermediate players it throws you off your game. In addition to all that the grass that was cut got caught in my shows and provided no grip. I don't think it is worth the price they charge($140 with cart). But this whole area is overpriced to begin with. The staff is really friendly and helpful. read more

I am sitting here on 14 (par 3) and there are 3 groups waiting on the tee box while another is waiting to make the green. 4 groups on a par 3. This is typical DelMonte lately. I wanted to share a recent experience with this golf course. We made a tee time through GolfNow and two days before one of our foursome tested positive for Covid-19. We had all played golf together the day before. As a close contact precaution we quarantined ourselves and attempted to cancel our tee time. The app would not allow the cancellation as Del Monte has a 72hr cancellation policy and we were 48hrs out. I was charged the full amount this morning for all four tee times. I called the course for help and they said this was an issue with GolfNow because they guarantee the tee time. I called GN and they called the course for an authorization to allow the cancellation and were told no. The golf course industry has seen an average uptick of 30% in play due to Covid-19. But they are so greedy that they care more about the money than applauding the correct course of action that we took. We were selfless with our decision to not play but by the actions of the golf course we should have just risked exposing everyone. This is extremely disappointing. It is sad to say but my friends and I will never play here again. The policies that they demonstrate are not something we choose to support and I invite others to join on us in this boycott. read more

This course is worth a Play- very good green conditions - fairways greens and most of nearby rough is all green - 20-30yds off the fairway the rough will be un watered -and ..... ROUGH!! I've played Most all the MP courses - PB, SB, CP, MPCC and even pac grove , I'd out this course on the list to play - and join the DUKE CLUB for great discounts at del monte , SB, and SPY- well worth it . Look past the mediocre reviews of del monte - it's a very nice course - restaurant and pro shop staff are all great - it's not pebble ( as for views) but conditions were very good/ lush fairways in AUGUST ! read more
