The veggie burger appeared and tasted like real beef. It's offered as a single or double where you can choose from different condiments such as garlic mayo, mango chutney, burger relish, curried mayo, chili sauce, or your standard mustard. It comes with a generous serving of chips (fries). For a veggie burger, it is surprisingly filling. This place made such an impression on Ryan S. and I that we came back a second time. I couldn't do another veggie burger but ordered the Greek Salad. Prices are a little higher than other places but they serve pretty big portions. Beers are solid. Have a seat out in the backyard if the weather is warm.

It is always interesting…read morewhen traveling to explore local restaurants and to find a true gem like this is exceptional. From the get-go when we entered the restaurant, we were welcomed and the staff was very attentive. They change their menu up often and there were several good options. Being low carb boy, I was looking at the choices, but after our waiter detailed their signature veal dish, we were hooked. It was outstanding and really blew our minds. True meaty goodness that was one of the most phenomenal things I have had in a long time. We are tempted to return just to have that dish again. It is a ball of veal stuffed with ham, Italian sausage and fontina cheese. It is covered in a peppercorn sauce that was incredibly yummy. I cannot recommend this dish more. Truly worth the trip to try. We tend to avoid sugar, but, it was a very special evening, so we tried the Eton Mess and were not disappointed. Not too sweet, with strawberries and blueberries immersed in rich, heavy cream that has roasted almonds and pieces of meringues. I am sure it blew my carb count for the day. I look forward to my return and encourage you to check it out.

There are good vegetarian choices, but plently of good meat dishes. Some of the meals are quite unusual: I have had Venison and Rabbit there. The meals are not cheap (roughly £12-15 per main meal) but I can honestly say they are worth every penny, so worth a special trip. The atmosphere is quiet and cosy; perfect for a romantic dinner. Although I am sure they could cope with bigger groups, they didn't seem to be set up for it so you may need to book ahead. If there are just 2 you should be find without booking on a week night, but I wouldn't risk it on the weekend. The staff are friendly and attentive and will make recommendations from the menu if you want. The wine list is extensive and (althought I am not a wine expert) seemed good. I have always been happy with my choice.

Suprisingly I have not found other vegetarian places here in Oxford, although most places have vegetarian options. A good selection of salads, one was quite spicy. The owner told me that they have many families coming. The place is children friendly and prices are very reasonable. The place itself is not very fancy, but I don't need fancy when the food is so good.

I found The Magic Cafe after research. Showing up at 10am provided me a nice quiet place to read. The place was large and inviting and the chairs were comfortable. I ordered a twinings tea for a little over £1. At noon it was clear this place is a favorite for locals. It became extremely busy, especially with moms and their children. The atmosphere changed, so it was not a time to read. But it was time for my lunch. The special was: Porcini mushroom risotto with bruschetta and salad £5.70 The meals of the day were: Lentil and vegetable lasagna £3.50 Sweet potato and coconut soup £3.00 Full salad 4.50 Half plate salad 3.00 Quarter 1.50 They serve the food right from the counter. (While drinking tea earlier, they were working very diligently.) I ordered the veggie lasagna. It contained lentils, zucchini, and carrots. It was piping warm out of the large casserole dish they serve from and had a great flavor. It was delicious! I also ordered a brownie based on other reviews. It was tasty with a noticeable hint of espresso. The employees were sweet and the locals are friendly; I joined a pair at a table due to the place filling up fast. If I lived in Oxford I would return to this place again.
