First off, the inside is beautiful. They did an incredible job with the renovation, and I loved all the little details, especially the custom 300-pound manhole covers they're using as tables around the bar. Even better, everyone working there was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Now the food! We started with the Baked Clams, and these were legit. You could've served them to me at an Italian restaurant and I wouldn't have questioned it. The Nonna's Ribs were probably one of the biggest surprises--slow-braised pork ribs with cherry peppers and finished on the grill. Fall-off-the-bone tender, tons of flavor, and I loved that they weren't just drenched in BBQ sauce. The Firebird crispy chicken sandwich was fantastic, and the Steakhouse Sandwich with sliced NY strip, mushrooms, provolone, crispy onions and horseradish aioli was also very well done. But that Manhole Burger deserves some special attention. Beef, American cheese, caramelized onions and dijonnaise on brioche. Simple combination, executed REALLY well. This was an outstanding burger and absolutely something I'd order again. And I can't leave out the fries. They're hand-cut in house, super thin and crispy, and exactly how I like my fries. Think that addictive thin fast-food style, except made fresh and much better quality. If you remember this location from its previous ownership, give it another shot. This is a completely different experience. Beautiful restaurant, genuinely friendly staff and food that exceeded my expectations. Huh? 1 hour and fifteen min later you ran out and the other guy already ate and left? I said great, but I'm not paying for it. 10 min later the owner came out. He could not have been a friendlier, responsible and all around nice person. It wasn't that he not only covered my meal but the table but it was the way he handled it. Owning a restaurant is not easy and problems happen. Food - 8/10 Prices 9/10 Place 8/10 I would not only recommend this place but they have absolutely earned my business. The Gentry is closed. I am sad as what ever takes the place will not have the same comradery that I felt there ever so briefly. As I've been exploring breweries around Long Island, Barnshed has been on my list for a while…read morethanks especially to fellow Yelper Josh G. and others whose reviews I trust wholeheartedly. Without a doubt, I was very happy I made the decision to visit this brewery with some fellow amigos, two of whom are new to the brewery world. Although we nearly missed the turn off route 107 (it's not the easiest place to find), it was well worth the effort to visit this small yet spirited brewery. Seeing the option for a flight of 4 for $9, the four of us each decided on this option (or else, why pay a visit here at all?). I opted for the Die Schuene Hefe (6.4% ABV), State 11 IPA (6.9% ABV), Propaganda Porter (6.4% ABV), and Chocolate Oatmeal Stout (6.7% ABV). My beer preferences generally lean toward the stouts, brown ales and low-IBU IPAs (have not yet acquired that palette for the super bitter). With that kind of palette, it should come as no surprise that I loved the Propaganda Porter and Chocolate Oats Stout, both of which offered a sweet, rich flavor, with Propaganda leaning more towards a vanilla flavor and Chocolate leaning towards a (wait for it) chocolate/coffee taste. Die Schuene Hefe was my next favorite in line, offering a very pleasant body of flavor, and State 11 IPA was still very enjoyable (though on the more bitter end for me). My friends sampled a variety of other beers, and altogether we hit every beer on the menu (sans Pineapple Express, which I'd love to try next time). My one friend who enjoys IPAs really loved the Mental Toughness and also enjoyed the Barn Double IPA (though admitted it was on the bitter end for those like myself who do not venture that far on the bitter scale). My other friend with a similar palette to mine really loved the 135 Pale Ale (he went "wow!" from the first sip), and our last comrade most enjoyed the Barnshed Cider (he does enjoy those ciders). Aside from the beer itself, what I really enjoyed about this place was the spirit and heart of it. It's small and scrappy but the owners definitely put a lot into it (it's easy to tell). The beer tasted incredibly fresh and was served with complimentary Utz's pretzels and even some mints before hitting the road. In pondering this brewery, I was on the fence between 4 and 5 stars. In the end, I opted for 5 stars because of my friends. The two newbies fell in love with breweries thanks to this place and are now wanting to explore even more breweries on Long Island (I'm sure I'll be getting texts every weekend now). Vaping behind the bar, drinking, and taking their time letting lines build up. They also let way too many people in. It came to the point where it felt like you were on the subway going home during rush hour. Shoulder to shoulder, back to back -- not a good feeling at a dive bar. If you're not gonna listen to Drake and drive to the bar -- the parking lot is a single lane joke. Park down one of the side streets.
