The Happy Tapper - Wings on Wednesday until 9:15pm - Sports Bars Near Me - Northlake, Illinois

Last two times I've tried stopping in for a drink ended the same: me leaving because I couldn't get service. The most recent time bring last night when I was in the area visiting my dad, and tried stopping in for a beer to keep my buzz going. I waited a good 15 minutes and neither bartender acknowledged me. It was Friday night. Before Christmas. It was kinda busy. Yeah yeah I get it. But a "hello, be with you in a minute", hell even just a glance and nod would've went a long way. I walked out. Shout out to the guy a spot over from me who noticed me waiting that entire time and *tried* to get a bartenders attention on my behalf. I try to be respectful of bartenders who don't like being yelled at and aggressively flagged down when they need a drank, so your boy sits their patiently with his money in hand. In turn I wait longer than most would. But this was too damn much. Ya'll should know how to handle a crowd by now. I've been here enough in the past to know it gets busy on weekends. Your bartenders shouldn't appear this out of sorts, ignoring people and letting money walk out the door. Get your sh*t together. read more

The wings are amazing!!!! But....,The bartender is so dam moody that it does not make it inviting to go back!! We gave it many chances BUT We are DONE!!!!!!! #smileitsfree #bekind read more

This has been a Hang out for the last 20+ years in the neighborhood. Always Known for there Customer Service and of Course there Wings! There is now New Management and the upgrades were definitely needed but in doing so have raised the prices and the cook (Macario) that was there from the beginning Making the amazing wings is No Longer there because of a dispute about wages. If you have been here before you can definitely tell the food is NOT Nearly at the same level as it once was and last couple times I waited over 10 minutes before I could even get a beer. If I wanted fancy burgers or Vegetables I would have went to Coopers Hawk etc. The one place I can meet old friends for a cheap Beer and some good grub is No Longer & we have started to go to a local bar in Schiller Park where the food and Drinks are 100% better and there is plenty of staff to help everyone read more

I have eaten wings everywhere but these are bar far the best garlic parmigian wings I have ever had. Great employees "Heather" made us laugh so hard. I needed that today. Hell I didn't even want to stop and come in but my kid wanted wings so I stopped. SO SO glad that we did. We loved them and WE WILL....BE BACK.... read more

Lexi made this visit such an enjoyable one. She was attentive to our drinks and sparked up funny conversation as well! She seemed to be a bar favorite last night and I see why. Will be coming around more to see Lexi and her to die for bloody mary's! read more

If anybody has noticed they've almost double their prices on everything the building itself is going to hell there's been puke on the back of the toilet for 2 days the soap dispensers laying on the floor and it stinks like sewer I think the owners just using this place as a write off read more

See all

We went there for one reason, and one reason only--WINGS! Totally worth it! It was a bit of an older crowd. A Bears game was on and they were a tad on the loud obnoxious side, but the food complete made up for it! Definitely will go back, maybe carry out next time! read more

The place is straight dive. I remember the days there was carpeting on the posts. Eww. I come here when my friends are in the mood for getting drunk uber cheap. I've had the wings in the past which were a-ok in my book. I've also had the steak tacos bc my friend raved about them. Definitely not rave worthy IMO. They were overpriced and came with lettuce and tomato two things I loathe on a taco. The place used to be popping on weekends, but this past Saturday they're were maybe 8 of us in here and guess what? We all knew each other. No newbies around these parts. It's either oldies or late twenty something's/ early thirty something's in town for a meet up with old fiends from the neighborhood. read more

WOMEN BEWARE. A friend of mine was rufied here in 2009 and then assaulted by 2 guys. The police did very little to investigate. I personally never had any major problems when I went, but I always went with guy friends who I trusted. So just be careful. I'll never set foot in this place again. If you're hungry, the pizza was decent and cheap. read more

I used to go to The Mad Tapper whenever I visited my friend that lived in Northlake. Every time, I'd ask myself: [1] Why would anyone ever want to live in Northlake? (no offense, of course); and [2] Why are there people here that are absolutely shizz-faced at 4:00 p.m.? What did I miss? Nowadays, working just next to Northlake, when I pass the Mad Tapper (or "Mad Taps" as we used to call it; we were dorks), I ask myself: [1] Why would anyone ever want to work just next to Northlake?; and [2] Why am I on an errand after work and not sitting in The Mad Taps, already drunk at 4:00 p.m.? I ask myself that second question because, for what it is, The Mad Tapper is a fun little bar. The clientele are, um, interesting; the drinks are affordable; and it's divey without being thoroughly creepy. I haven't been there since the ownership changed hands, but, for me, it's definitely worth returning to. Unfortunately, my friend that lived in Northlake no longer lives in Northlake, and, well, I can't yet justify calling friends or family to come pick me up in Northlake because I've been bombed at Mad Taps since 4:00 p.m. But, believe me, I'm working on reasons. read more

Chill divey bar. a few TVs but only on one side of the bar. The one TV on the other side is smaller and doesn't run HD so is delayed. Useless for the games. Bartender was nice. People were decent. I'd stop in again sometime. Did not look like they had any food read more

Wings are the best I've had in awhile. Despite the slow unfriendly service it's still worth coming here for wings. read more

The Happy Tapper - So far walked in waiting not one person greeted and no menu yet..... But the friendliest - Sports Bars Near Me - Northlake, Illinois

We used to hit this place after work for drinks many years ago. So, it's Wednesday wings so we went there for lunch. It was weird. Lots of people drinking at 1pm. I probably wouldn't go again. The food is OK and the service is fine. There are definitely better places for lunch. read more

Great little dive bar and you should stop in for the AMAZING wings and drink specials! Wonderful service, clean, and friendly. Out of town and looking for a little spot for some eats and drinks close to our super 8 hotel. This place is a quaint little dive bar that has exceptional service, a chill atmosphere, and some of the best wings I've ever had! I would most definitely come back when in town! Also has a pool table and open mic night on Wednesdays. read more

My boyfriend and I having been going there since it was mad tapper, the work the new owners have done is amazing. They've added so many new menu items but honestly the wings are the best thing ! We now live in Naperville and we're still going out there just for their wings! Definitely recommend this place. Prices are also reasonable. read more

For your run of the mill dive bar the Mad Tapper actually has some pretty good food. Wing Wednesday's are a favorite. I'd be more than happy to pay regular price for these lil bits of chicken heaven but on Wednesday they're only .35¢ They have a great variety of sauces. I prefer the hot BBQ. If I was in the area and looking for a place to grab lunch the Tapper would definitely be on my radar read more

Can't give a zero star it won't let me. Half the tables are closed, 5 servers and bartenders are standing around upstairs doing nothing, wish I would have taken a picture. Had four kids under 10, said I would come to the bar for all the food. They gave zero help, they are at capacity they said. I wAnt a direct message from a manager. This is the worst customer service, thought Canada was friendly, that's a lie. It's spring break everyone in town is telling us it's busy mountain can't staff to save their life. Thank you for ruining our day. read more

I have to admit the price is right here. The nachos are awesome and so are the wings.

Absolutely phenominal for a percieved dive bar. Yes, it is under new ownership with a little darkness and a lot of dankness but it is AWESOME. The new owner is friendly, personable, and hard working (she doesn't use her good looks as a what can you do for me attitude). Her bartenders are friendly and they all keep to a local atmosphere. I recommend this place to any and all who want a few beers, shots, laughs, and fun. Food is good but I wouldn't bring a child in on a Saturday afternoon because it is still a little rough around the edges! read more

This place is a hole in the wall. Dirty, dirty, dirty! Did I mention that it was dirty? I drinks are expensive and the food is crap. Its an older folk bar with no life. read more

new ownership still a bad suburban bar. This place is not very clean and kept up.The burger I had was so awful and spongey all I could take was a couple of bites. The service was absolutely horrible and this really is not a place to be unless you are realy thirsty for beer in Northlake. The place is so dark and dim that maybe that is a good thing. read more

Great dive bar best IPA on tap around great wings small tv's but everything else is great

The Mad Tapper is our sponsor for our softball team. I try to come after every game, unless its too late. I like it here. it's not fancy, but there are lots of TVs to watch and games to play. They have pool, darts, & the punching bag game! They always have good drink specials, I think it's $13 for a domestic bucket right now. That's a pretty good deal. The food here is also a lot better than you would think for a bar. The wings are great. I love hot, saucy, bar wings and this is the spot for them. Why go to wing stop across the street when you can come to the tapper for a beer & wings & fun. read more

Excellent place nice people, cold great food u can't ask for any thing else.i meant cold beer.

This is a nice neighborhood bar. I went in there on Wednesday and they had a special on wings. Beer was cheap and the music was good.

Ever since the new owner this place just keeps going downhill:( .. Every time we've been there in the last year, there's only like 20 people there. Last night I decided to have my bday party there, since its a local place. There was only one bartender who was completely overwhelmed by how many people were there. I felt bad for her. I talked to the DJ and bouncer and they said another bartender was on the way. By now most of my friends are pissed.. No one can get a drink or they're being charged for the wrong things... Its nearly 12 and the other bartender still hasn't made it... Finally when all my friends say we've had it! Were leaving! I see the owner walk in.... I rush over and tell everyone to relax cuz now that anetas here... It'll be ok! Yea sure. We ordered 2 drinks and 6 chilled shots from the owner. She said she wouldn't chill them. I was like ? Ummm... You can chill the shots or were ALL leaving. She refused. So like 30people walked out the door. Are you kidding me? No wonder its always dead there if that's how the owner treats customers! Apparently she was too "busy" to chill them... Its like Lady! Wtf! You're busy cuz I brought these people here! Never again. read more

What a difference new owners have made to this once rundown dive. New paint, new tv's, and new attitudes. This is one you might want to give a second chance, I did, after not going there for over a year and a half. Place is much cleaner, and friendlier, than in the recent past. Gets super busy Friday and Saturday nights with karaoke. Nice to see Hillary back. Wishing Annetta, and her business partner, good luck. Like the sign said outside, ALL ARE WELCOME BACK. read more

Great place for a few early beers and a bite to eat. Good food and service.

I honestly don't write reviews often, but after last night July 24th I feel compelled to share my review. My wife and I had talked about checking this place out in the past, so last night we decided to go in. It wasn't busy at all, but we thought the place had potential. Then we met the bartender... She was one of the rudest people in the service industry I have ever met, not to mention the probability that she was self medicated is very high. They made last call while my wife was in the bathroom. When she came back she asked if she could have a drink. The bartender refused to give her one, even though she had just served one of her regular patrons his last drink. We were probably there for 30 minutes total, and that was already too long. In conclusion, we will never be coming back and do not recommend this place to anyone. The customer service in this place is non existent. So, if you want to go out and have a good time go somewhere else! read more

I love this place! If you want fancy decorations and candles then go downtown but if you want a real bar, real food and really good music then come here. They have the best karoake around (fri&sat)! It's not only karoake or country, they play all the new hits & dance music! The wings, chicken melts, nachos, chips and salsa, patty melts, steak sandwiches ... ect, are Fantastic! There are pool tables and dart boards, the service is fast and friendly and you can't beat the prices! Hands down this is the best bar in town!! read more

What a night mare. We went there with a party and we even called ahead and reserved tables. The bar was very dirty, the pool table broke meaning the balls were getting stuck inside. The bartender fixed it by removing the side panel and throwing it under the table. The cook who happens to be new was a little slow and the only food you could get was chicken fingers some wings and fries. The DJ was very late he had a hard time getting the speakers to work and once he did no one had any idea what the music was even after some requests he acted like he didn't know what your talking about. He seemed more interested in standing by the bar with his girlfriend who was totally rude. The bartender was way over pouring on the drinks by putting at least 3 shots in the glasses. They ran out of the most popular mixes like Jack Daniels and Hennessey. We had to take our party to another because it was so bad there. Sad to say we have been going there for years and have spent a lot of money at tapper but this will be our last time because we will no longer go there nor will we recommend it to any one. read more
