The Hamlet is very near our home so we were thrilled when they opened the restaurant and outdoor patio. Let me start by saying that, by and large, the food is delicious. However, the last two times we've been (with large groups 10 people) the service was been absolutely horrendous. So bad, in fact, that it will be a long time before we step foot in there again. One time two of our party received their food after the rest of us had finished eating - this is just terrible timing. I think either they don't have the right staffing or their kitchen isn't large enough to handle the size of their restaurant or large groups. Every time we have complained, they apologize but then give a lame excuse. This one was, "sorry, we should have waited until all the food was ready before we brought it out." No, then all of our food would have been cold and we would've waited an hour plus for our food. I requested a discount and they gave us one. This past Sunday we made reservations for Mothers Day. When we walked in at 1:00 the place was in chaos. The owner was pushing a bar cart that was piled high and a plate with leftover food crashed right in front of the buffet, diners and 20+ people waiting to be seated. There was not enough space in the restaurant to manage all they were trying to manage. They stuck a caution sign and did a rudimentary clean up job before seating us on the patio. I almost slipped on the floor as we passed the mess. The buffet was absolutely the least appetizing buffet I had ever seen. There was food and grease everywhere! I get that we were one of the last tables seated for brunch but the food was truly awful. Most of it was cold, heavy on pasta and potato dishes. They had some nice meat, but it was hacked away at and barely anything left on the bone. Also, there was no one to attend to us so I had to cut my own meat with knives that were covered in fat and grease. Totally disgusting. The waffle bar for the kids was out of batter so they attempted to put cold, hard waffles back in the waffle makers to warm them up. The omelette station was a disaster. Cheese and raw eggs sloshed everywhere. At this point we wanted to leave, but seeing as it was Mothers Day and we had a large group, we thought better of it. There was so much more wrong with the meal. Come to find out it was 25 dollars a piece which was absurd considering how poorly planned and executed the buffet was put together. I was embarrassed because we had brought company from out of the country and wanted to make a good impression on him. To make matters even worse, I then slipped on the concrete and fell making my way back to the buffet for dessert and could have badly hurt myself. I never post about restaurants but my last two experiences here were just that bad that I have to share with others. They gave us a 50% discount after I fell and the bill was still $150 which was still ridiculous. I'm sorry they have been unable to get their act together. I think they have a good concept but it is poorly run and there was no way they could have made a successful buffet on a holiday with so many people packed into that restaurant. An utter failure. It will be ages before I will be willing to give them another shot. * FOR a more recent reviewer to imply I deliberately fell in order to receive a discount is absolutely absurd. The food and service was horrible, compounded by the fall which was extremely dangerous. I did not have a severe injury - just a sore back for a few days, but it could have been more serious and the restaurant would have definitely been held liable for how slippery the floors were. I never take time to leave reviews - trust me, this business is not worth your time. ** also, is it not a little fishy that someone who "saw me fall" also happened upon Yelp to leave a positive review? More likely, the owners saw this review and either left the most recent accusatory review or asked a friend to negate me in a positive review. It's just too coincidental. read more
