Went here on Saturday May 10th 2025 for a haircut and highlights with Carley. I decided to do highlights this time because that day was my dad's 60th birthday party and I wanted to look pretty. Plus Carley does a good job-- and not just carley, marla and some of the other stylists too! Carley listened to all my preferences and followed them well. Also loved the conversations that we were having. Loved the shampooing and the massage as well. And was comfortable the whole time. When finished, my hair felt healthier and fresh! Spent $80. For a horrible cut, wash and blow dry/styling. Looked like someone dumped heavy duty conditioner on it. My hair NEVER came out so flat and plastered to my head. For the last year I've battled Breast cancer and lost my hair. Maggie has gone over and beyond, she has cut my wig and refused to take my money .. she just told me "keep fighting". I was immediately greeted by the desk and taken to a clean station. Lisa came over offered me a disposable mask so I wouldn't get color on mine. While she applied the foils she made me feel extremely comfortable. She listened to my goal and overall time I had for hair color maintenance and advised accordingly. I noticed there was constant cleaning and maintaining of the salon. I definitely made a follow up appointment for May. My yucky Covid hair is gone and I left feeling beautiful and refreshed. Marissa was amazing, she helped educate me on how to maintain. Marissa was honest during the consultation and listened to what my needs were and how we could achieve that. I was really looking for something low maintenance because I'm terrible at the follow up appointments. I'm very satisfied with the color. Danielle also washed me out the first time and had to de-tangle after my hair processed. It's usually an unpleasant process, but she was really gentle and talked with me the entire time. I barely noticed by the time she was done. Mallory gave literally the best massage ever after washing my hair. It was so relaxing and I could 100% fall asleep. This might be the first salon I've gone to that I've noticed they give an actual massage at the end, instead of just giving you a wet towel to hold. read more

They are ok Not bad at all but not outstanding either. They present well and the work is average. I was a bit miffed because they asked me to make a deposit due to my cancelling a few times. I understand thwt is not good for business but as a doctor my scheduke can shift in a moments notice and then the well also broke I felt treated as if they thought I was just not taking them seriously and just cancelled willy nilly which was never the case. I did consider the deposit as the place is not awful but i.think I would have to feel the place is outstanding to do that. Anyway I have found another 5 star place and hopefully they are very good. I generally have amazing haircuts but when it comes to color, its is usually a disaster. I love my dark hair but once in awhile I like to change it to a lighter shade. That is when it goes awry. I am Asian with dark olive complexion and my hair turns bright brassy orange when lightened. I am fairly new to the area and one can only imagine my anxiety when making an appointment for the Hair Bar. Pros: Prompt response when requesting an appointment via yelp. I requested at 11 pm and response time was within minutes. Price was discussed up front. Maggie was professional and had great customer service. Her color consultation was informative and addressed all my concerns. Salon was clean and the staff were all friendly. The receptionist ignored me when I first walked in. She was on the phone so I kind of just hung around reception for a minute then went to sit and wait, sure that she would address me when she got off. Nope. A few minutes later, I saw someone else at the desk and approached her, noticing that the receptionist was off the telephone and on her cell phone... Turned out the second woman (Maggie) was my stylist and said she didn't realize I was there. Hmmmmm She took me back and washed my hair. She gave me the BEST wash/head massage I have EVER had in a salon. That is the only reason for the 3 stars I gave. Unfortunately, despite the fact that Maggie was a sweetheart, after my blow out, my hair looked greasy. She had added too much product If it had been just the rude receptionist, I would have considered returning, but unfortunately, the greasy looking hair wasn't worth the outrageous money hair cuts cost today. read more

I asked her questions about price changes (from my past experience with them) and she responded witth "i don't even want to cut your hair. Your vibe is off." Very friendly employers and really took the time with my hair... almost too much time. I was sat down at 11 am and left at 12:30 pm- a total of an hour and a half, which was a lot longer than necessary. The cut itself, ironically, was very quickly done. I asked to take off 4-5 inches worth of damage, but the stylist- Lisa- only took off about 2 inches before switching over to another customer. The blow drying was left to an assistant, and took a whole 45 minutes. It was only when I arrived home that the cut is a whole inch uneven, with the right side being shorter than the left. My mom was the one who noticed and had to even it out herself. For $60 I could've gotten a way better cut, let alone have it done correctly. Be careful about how much you're willing to spend for their services. read more

I've been going here for about 5-6 years and I love this place. Christina is amazing with hair and color! She's always up to date with the styles and I'm always so happy when I leave. Although I moved out of the area, I drive 35 minutes every 6 weeks to see her. I've been to Kara for lash extensions, make up for formal events and bring my daughter to her a couple of times a year as well. She's great as well! Highly recommend The Hair Bar! read more

I had to update my review to go from 4 stars down to 2 stars. I really really wanted to like this place. I have gone 3 times and each time I feel as though they did not do a great job cutting my hair. The first time, the did not cut all of it, just sections. The second time, the girl didn't do what I asked. And the third time, one side of my head had a really chunky layer while the other side had nice layers. And I've used 2 different stylists there. On top of that, they have increased their already high prices. I won't be going back. Although, they did a nice job washing my hair. Felt very nice every time. read more

Do not recommend this place at all!!! I made an appointment with one of the owners Marla thinking she would do a great job. She was working back and forth between me and another girl who was going platinum blonde and was much more focused on her hair that she rushed through mine. My hair was all sorts of different shades and looked orange at the end of the whole balayge process. I had to get a glaze three times!!!! And still they could not get it to be the color I wanted. I also paid extra to get the olaplex treatment incorporated into the bleaching process to which she totally forgot.....Terrible job!!!! I have to say, I really wanted to like Hair bar, it's close to my home and it's trendy enough. I tried both stylist, Marla and Lisa. I got to say, not happy with either. I felt that they didn't care about me as a customer and they did a quick job, not great. When you go to a salon, you are suppose to feel better after and I felt like I was bothering them. They made me feel I didn't belong there. The only reason I would go back there is because of the esthetician at the Nina Belle salon, Anette, she is AMAZING!!!..she cares for your skin and is super attentive!.. I truly love her! read more

I went to the Hair Bar about two weeks ago for a specific look that consisted of a balayage. I showed my stylist a picture with the exact color I wanted. After almost 3 hours she was done and it was not the color I asked for but still pretty. I left thinking it would be ok even though it was not what I had come in to get exactly. After being home and looking at the color some more I decided I didn't love it after all and wanted the color I asked for with the picture I showed. I called and they had me go back in to get it fixed. The moment I walked in the stylist made it clear she was annoyed I was there. She didn't agree that we were seeing the same color is what she told me. Regardless she added a glaze and tried to match it to my picture. My hair was washed and the assistant dried two strands of hair and I was informed there wouldn't be any time to blow dry me. I left the salon on a cold and wet November morning with soaking wet hair. I have never been treated this way. I spent 395 dollars when all was said and done with a generous 20 percent tip. I called to complain when I got home about the way I was treated. I was told the owner would contact me. Well, I'm still waiting..... I have made sure to let everyone know about my experience there. read more

Probably the best blonde highlights I've gotten throughout NY and I love the Aveeda products! Very unique setup which makes the salon more of a social setting. Mehhhh! Did not leave anything to be desired. I see where they were trying to go with the concept of this salon, but they missed the mark. Definitely not like any NYC salon and not to mention the bad haircut and blowouts. I think the stylists must be straight out of hair school, bc i saw people leaving with frizzy blowouts and one girl that was there waiting in the chair for highlights looked like she had straw for hair. It seems like they cannot handle ppl with curly hair or any hair with some texture. The owner of the salon cut my hair and I had so many uneven pieces that I had to go back to my normal hair stylist. I was really hoping this salon would be a score, but it's up there will all the other bad hair salons in the area. Guess there's a reason Prices are so low. Stick to the professionals! read more

I may as well be trapped in the 1940"s..This place needs to put up a sign that says "No Blacks allowed". That is basically what the owner told me when I went there last Thursday because my regular salon Monroe Hair was under renovation. She told me "We don't do Ethnic Hair." My jaw dropped and my hurt and pride would not let me walk away so I insisted that I be given service. All I needed was a blow out. A young girl came forward and said she would do it. Thirty dollars later I walked out my pride intact but my spirit defeated that as long as you are of color you will always have to deal with it in this our beloved country! read more

The place looks fantastic and the idea of a hair bar is exactly what the area needed. A place that you could walk into with friendly faces, a decent ambiance, and get your hair wash and dried. I have lived and work in the city and this is no where near a NYC salon. They lack skill and customer service. They have no set schedule; the business hours are a joke. They are very "selective" on whose hair they do. Perhaps they can't do ethnic hair and that's a shame because our money is green too. You get the picture the moment you speak to someone in this place... Wonder how long it will be before they shutdown. read more
