Extremely friendly staff. I love how the inside building looks. Ordered their Haggis with their whisky sauce which was amazing and the very first Haggis I ever had. My wife order the Scotch Eggs which was good. We also ordered a Latte and it was served on a large cup. The latte was good too. Highly recommend when visiting Edinburgh.

VEGAN HAGGIS - lentil "meat mixture" on top of mashed regular and sweet potatoes on a bed of whiskey and mustard gravy.

I ventured to The Haggis Box on a rainy day, and it was the perfect place. Comfort food, a hands-on storytelling wall, and unique Scottish books. What more does one want on a rainy afternoon in Edinburgh, Scotland? Also, the vegan haggis was the most comforting meal I've had throughout my entire European trip. VEGAN HAGGIS - lentil "meat mixture" on top of mashed regular and sweet potatoes on a bed of whiskey and mustard gravy. Once the haggis was placed in front of me, I received a light, airy fragrance of mustard. I don't think I've ever had anything quite like this dish. It warmed my soul. The portion was generous. I'm not a huge fan of lentils, but it didn't taste like lentils. The mashed potatoes were smooth and fluffy. The sauce was rich and bold. The only negatives were that the haggis ate a little salty, and I would have loved more sauce. The potatoes did a great job of soaking it up. You could order extra sauce on the side, but I didn't feel like spending more money. EXTRA: Comfort food Friendly service Cute space Could spend hours here I had some slight difficulty in finding the location. First I walked right by it, I didn't realize it was attached to a bookstore. This place is tucked away behind a bookstore from one entrance and up the stairs at the other entrance located on high street. If you walk too fast you will miss it like I did. Many people/ foreigners like myself are afraid of trying this dish because they don't know what it's made of. So I watched a you tube video if this guy talking about haggis and this was the spot to get it. It's made of sheep meat including heart, lung and liver, spices and fat to bind it together and usually eaten with mashed potatoes and mashed sweet turnips. It's a peasant food so they use all of the sheep kind of like how we make hot dogs but not in a casing. Anyway they put the potatoes in the bottom, then the turnips and then the haggis. They top it with either a red wine gravy or a white whiskey sauce. You have to get each ingredients on the fork for that first bite and it's a perfect medley of flavors. The sauce is creamy and a wonderful addition to the meal. I could have asked for extra sauce it was that good. They also have a vegan option as well. They do have a variety of drinks and other things to eat but I came for the Haggis so i didn't bother with the rest of the menu. Very happy with the hard cider as well. Come to Scotland and when your here try the Haggis the way the Scott's do. The Haggis Box is the jam. You will not be disappointed.

Traditional Haggis: neeps & tatties (£8.50) with Auchentoshan Whisky and Mustard Sauce (£1.50).

Being in Scotland, we made sure to try its national dish: haggis (not to mention that it is also banned in the US). It is a savory pudding made from a sheep's pluck (including heart, liver, and lungs) that is minced with onions, oatmeal, suet, and seasoning. The Haggis Box offers a vegetarian option too. ----- Traditional Haggis: neeps & tatties (£8.50). Add Auchentoshan Whisky and Mustard sauce or Red Wine Gravy for an additional £1.50. Quite a palatable dish with the haggis tasting like well-seasoned ground meat. The neeps (turnips) and tatties (potatoes) were soft. We were recommended the whiskey and mustard sauce. It did not overpower and complimented the dish rather well. ----- The stall is located inside of The Scottish Storytelling Centre, which has restrooms and a guest Wi-Fi. A few tables are present as well, most of which were taken during our late Monday afternoon visit. Take-out orders are accepted.

Finally, i was able to try the authentic traditional haggis of scotish food. For those who do not know what haggis is. Its basically mince meat mixed with some organs such as lungs. It was lovely in my opinion because of the mashed potato. Honestly the haggis itself is already wet so you dont need some more sauce. It is better without the sauce in my opinion. But haggis is perfect! Cheers!

The haggis was so tasty! First time trying it and I'd definitely eat it again here. This play was in a cultural center, and they usually have a lot of events in the spot. They have take out or you can eat in. The waiters were pleasant. Highly recommend!

We also had the fish and chips, which has been the closest vegan resemblance to fish and chips I have ever seen! It even came with mayo and mushy peas. For dessert we had pineapple upside down cake, which was warm and the perfect balance of sweet and tart. A great find in Edinburgh!

One evening in Berkeley, California, out to dinner with some friends at a Korean restaurant, I…read moreshared that I was heading to Scotland in July of 2019 and asked if anybody had been and had any recommendations for places to go. Probing why I was going a little, they got out of me I am of the Gordon Clan of Aberdeenshire, a Scotland of Old clan. One of my friends exclaimed, "Gordon!" He paused, looked me directly in the eyes and said, "You know we're rivals right?!" He is Nate James Lindsey. A member of the Lindsey Clan, one of the Gordon Clan's rival clans in Scotland of Old. Once we addressed our rival ancestries, he recommended to me The Baked Potato Shop in Edinburgh, the city I was flying into/out of for my first trip not only to Scotland, but to Europe as well. Well, I might as well go I thought, how bad can a rival clan recommendation be. The night I arrived in Edinburgh, 5 July 2019, I entered The Baked Potato Shop and was greeted by a friendly worker. After looking over the menu, I went with a baked potato loaded with vegan chilli and vegan Macsween haggis. After placing my order, paying, and getting the baked potato I thought the only thing missing from my first ever evening in Scotland was bagpipe music. No sooner had I thought that than I heard the sounds of bagpipes wafting across the cobbled lane out front of the Shop. Across the cobbled lane I went, lured by the wail of the bagpipes. After listening for a bit and providing a tip I returned to the guest house I was staying the night at. The food was delicious and filled my travel-tired belly. The haggis was the first I had of any kind, vegan or non-vegan, and it was an immediate favorite. Offset from my departure time zone by 8 hours, I went to sleep soon after eating. I woke up early the next morning ready to go. Turns out the baked potato and toppings cured my jet lag in less than 24 hours, quite remarkable. What a way to end my first day in Scotland, a recommendation from a member of a rival Scotland of Old clan yields tasty food. I will however note that I am also of Irish descent, so I am still not sure what to make of the recommendation in light of the Irish Potato Famine... Ahhh, Scotland of Old lives on.
