Service here was quick and efficient. The food was hot and fresh. The time I went, there was seating, but wish there was more space to eat.

    Nice place to sit inside.

Excellent! We arrived in Edinburgh hungry and were looking for something warm and quick. There were a few tables on the inside and a few on the outside. We were able to sit inside with no wait where it was warm. The bowls came out quickly and were piping hot. It was fun to share. I would come back to try different bowls for sure.

Dirty Diana. So rich and creamy. Delicious!!

This place was close to our hotel and looked really good so we decided to check it out. As we were going in, a few people coming out told us how amazing it was. It's a really small space inside but super cute, and the owners were really nice. We ordered the Iron Mikes, the Dirty Diana and the Singh is King. We had to take it out to eat since there wasn't anywhere to sit but we found a great place down the stairs and around the corner. We were all dying over the food. So, so delicious! The baked potatoes were cooked perfectly. Everyone loved their meals. I got the Singh and the channa masala was amazing. Our whole party (13 of us) loved every bite. Each order is quite a bit of food and we totally could have shared one, but everyone said that they would totally go back there again.

Let's be honest, we've all been tempted by a tattie. Tempting tattie aims to exploit your primeval urge for filled baked potato. This is a better than average, easy lunch option. Like the many sandwich and baguette shops that have sprung up, the idea here is to choose your own filling from a wide range. Here you can choose a small, medium or large portion, costing you around £3.50, £4.20 or £5.00 respectively. Whilst there is a wide range of preselected combinations (basically of two ingredients) you can also choose to creatively construct your very own tattie. Amongst the other reviewers there seems to be a bit of a debate on the issue of cheese. I have to say I wasn't that impressed by it either. I'm quite picky about my dairy, and I really don't like mega-processed plastic cheese with a greasy film. Unfortunately I've come to expect it from most places. But you don't really expect fine cuisine from a shop like Tempting Tattie, so if a quick, filling and reasonably priced potato is your cup of tea, try this place. Incidentally they do also offer cheaper than average but decent paninis and mediocre soup, so its not all tatties at Tatties.

The smell of this baked potato shop drives me crazy. You know how some people say that oysters is an aphrodisiac? I would argue that the smells wafting out of Tempting Tattie would weaken the knees of the most upstanding gentleman/lady. They have a great selection of fillings - everything you would expect from a baked potato shop. The potatoes themselves are nothing short of perfect - exactly how a tattie should be. I loved the tuna mayo and sweetcorn, it's really chilled and so works well with the steamy potato. My friend just had cheese and she said it was the best baked potato she'd ever had.

Let me just tell you, Stuart is a fusspot with cheese. He tends to boycott some flavours, to the point where I once made him a cheese toastie for breakfast (last week), and he sent it back (because I used Kraft cheese slices). So don't listen to the cheesy lies! I quite liked the cheese in here - it's not as bad as all that, and it melts nicely. There are some good old fashioned baked potato toppings you can get, including tuna, sweetcorn and some Scottish haggis that the tourists will go nuts over. While I always opt for minimal fillings, I always appreciate how well the potatoes are made in here. They crumble in your mouth like yer gran made them. Lovely stuff. As Stephanie said your nostrils will lead the way, since this place smells delectable from around the block!

The tattie is huge. We shared one with the chili con carne. Very tasty very quick service. Not much room to eat.

These pies are a great light lunch or snack when consumed by themselves. Or one can get a variety of them and make it a meal. The pies are made fresh daily and displayed in the glass case at the counter along with other British style fried foods such as Tattie Dogs, Sausage Rolls, etc. There are a variety of the infamous pies offered. We tried a Steak and Ale pie and an Original Scotch Pie with brown sauce packet for the pour over. I enjoyed mine (Scotch Pie) and could've eaten a couple more God willing. Along with an Irn Bru, this was a satisfying and affodable meal. Definitely give this place a try when in the area.

They make perfect snack sized pastries that let you try a variety without getting too full. Compared to other local pasty shops their baked pastries use better ingredients and are better cooked. I love how flaky and golden colored the pasties were. You'll find a variety of traditional pasties here as well as some unique creations worth checking out. My kids loved the hasbrowns wrapped around a sausage so much we ordered an extra one even though they said they weren't hungry before. This is located in a busy area and there are a small amount of seats inside against the window and a small table next to the drinks. There isn't any seating or place to sit outside so I wouldn't plan on eating here.

One evening in Berkeley, California, out to dinner with some friends at a Korean restaurant, I…read moreshared that I was heading to Scotland in July of 2019 and asked if anybody had been and had any recommendations for places to go. Probing why I was going a little, they got out of me I am of the Gordon Clan of Aberdeenshire, a Scotland of Old clan. One of my friends exclaimed, "Gordon!" He paused, looked me directly in the eyes and said, "You know we're rivals right?!" He is Nate James Lindsey. A member of the Lindsey Clan, one of the Gordon Clan's rival clans in Scotland of Old. Once we addressed our rival ancestries, he recommended to me The Baked Potato Shop in Edinburgh, the city I was flying into/out of for my first trip not only to Scotland, but to Europe as well. Well, I might as well go I thought, how bad can a rival clan recommendation be. The night I arrived in Edinburgh, 5 July 2019, I entered The Baked Potato Shop and was greeted by a friendly worker. After looking over the menu, I went with a baked potato loaded with vegan chilli and vegan Macsween haggis. After placing my order, paying, and getting the baked potato I thought the only thing missing from my first ever evening in Scotland was bagpipe music. No sooner had I thought that than I heard the sounds of bagpipes wafting across the cobbled lane out front of the Shop. Across the cobbled lane I went, lured by the wail of the bagpipes. After listening for a bit and providing a tip I returned to the guest house I was staying the night at. The food was delicious and filled my travel-tired belly. The haggis was the first I had of any kind, vegan or non-vegan, and it was an immediate favorite. Offset from my departure time zone by 8 hours, I went to sleep soon after eating. I woke up early the next morning ready to go. Turns out the baked potato and toppings cured my jet lag in less than 24 hours, quite remarkable. What a way to end my first day in Scotland, a recommendation from a member of a rival Scotland of Old clan yields tasty food. I will however note that I am also of Irish descent, so I am still not sure what to make of the recommendation in light of the Irish Potato Famine... Ahhh, Scotland of Old lives on.
