    The Grille at sunset beach.
    Torrey L.

Loved the fish and chips. This is a take out window style place with seating on a deck that overlooks Sunset beach. The food is your tipical burgers and hot dogs along with Fried clams, fish and chips and other seafood stuff. Beverages are soda, water and ice tea in bottles (no tap water). They also have a special "sunset sauce" which is kind of like mayo & buffalo hot sauce. It goes great with fries and onion rings. We got the fish and chips along with onion rings. I was impressed. The fried fish was shaped like big chicken fingers (NOT processed). It was crispy with the fish cooked just right. I wold say it was equally as tasty as the takeout you can get from the Lobster house across town (another favorite of mine). Slightly smaller portion but at a lower price so it works out about the same value. The location is a neat tourist stop, complete with a beach, sunken ship, WWII lookout tower, a few interesting shops and mini golf. The kids like collecting rocks and shells from the beach. Parking can get a little crowded at times. The sunset view is nice (hint: there is also a beach park on the other side of the point with is less crowded too). Conclusion... a fun spot for the kids and good fish & chips... well be back for sure.

The beer selection is always impressive, with plenty of options to satisfy just about every taste. Service can be hit or miss depending on when you visit and who's working, but that's often the case at busy shore destinations. My family stops here on almost every trip to our home on the Cape May Bay, so we've experienced it at its best and busiest. The atmosphere is exactly what you'd expect from a popular shore restaurant. And yes, if you know about the bathroom situation, you know--it really deserves a permanent fix rather than another temporary patch. The menu offers something for everyone. The pizzas are consistently good, the bar food delivers exactly what you'd expect, and there are several signature dishes that are always reliable and full of flavor. When the restaurant gets crowded, you'll definitely notice it in both the service and the overall vibe, but that's just part of the shore experience. Overall, I'd recommend giving it a try. Go in with realistic expectations during peak times, and chances are you'll have a great meal. We almost always do, and I think you will too.

So we went early (no problem being seated around 5:30 or so, but it did seem full an hour later) and were we ever rewarded. Everything was simply perfect, including Vicki, our veteran and down to earth waiter. When we are unsure of things, she provided expert guidance with kindness and wisdom. The mussels appetizer are an experience not to be missed - save the bread for lapping up its saucy juice. My wife loved the pork chop - its huge and she took half home for lunch. I devoured the blackened fish of the day over bok choy. Both simply were outstanding. If/when again in Cape May again, we'd certainly come back. With a reservation!

She explained everything to us about the menu in detail and allowed us to order our different courses at separate times. Never did we feel rushed or neglected. Onto the food: oh my God, what can I say? It was spectacular. The Spanish octopus was extraordinary. The tuna appetizer was a beautiful blend of taste and textures. The buratta melted in your mouth. The pork loin was so tender and delicious and the portion so large that even though we were sharing it, we couldn't finish it. The other entrées, the pork chop and the Seabass looked delicious even though I didn't taste them. While the desserts looked amazing, we were too full to eat anymore. We definitely will be back for another delicious dinner soon.

The menu was even better this time around too. We went for the prix fixe meal. We got: seared crab cake, yellow fin tuna poke, grilled octopus appetizer, rigatoni, Berkshire porkchop, strawberry panacotta, and dark chocolate tart. Everything was extraordinary. That grilled octopus was cooked to perfection. It was the perfect amount of charred without making the inside chewy in the slightest. The meat inside was still very tender. The yellow fin poke was an authentic dish with great portions. The entrees did not disappoint either. That rigatoni and the porkchop were both great main courses. The porkchop was easily my favorite dish of the night. Everything was perfect. The service was speedy, the food was delicious and in great portions. I would highly recommend visiting Grana.

This time, I ordered the egg white omelette and it came saturated in oil or butter or simply whatever may have oozed from the cheese, so it sat untouched. It was virtually floating on the plate. When I placed the breakfast order, I asked for it to be cooked without added salt. Ciara read our order back to us, adding an eye roll of sorts at the 'no-salt' part, and the food was delivered as if the kitchen staff felt the same. The side potatos were smothered in salt. Just strange really. At least the kids got frisbees on the way out when I asked, whether or not their dad actually got an edible breakfast on Father's Day.

The odyssey to finding it was well worth the effort. We had dinner reservations but on a Monday in May, probably did not need them. We both loved our flounder almondine order, despite it being a Monday night (when one does not typically order fish and expect it to be fresh). This really was! Service was top-notch and super-friendly from Jared, who was deeply apologetic when the oyster appetizer we ordered failed to appear - he comped a beer without prompting (and insisted upon it). Even absent this gesture, his attitude and manner made our evening - the excellence of the entrees was a cherry on top. One note and not the fault of the restaurant at all - a number of families with small children were dining at other tables. This is not an especially well-suited restaurant for families with under-5 kids. Their collective noise and behavior was more akin to, well, a Chuck-E-Cheese or MacDonalds. There was nothing anyone could do, of course.

Asked us if we minded sitting on the inside deck. We did mind and were then show to a table inside the restaurant. (If we had our kids with us, then I would have not minded eating on the deck). The table was an awesome tucked away corner table that faced the inner dining room. The decor and experience were top notch. I'm glad I said no to eating outside. The room is absolutely beautiful if you are into vintage looks. I said it looked like Gaston's Tavern. Food and waitress service was good. My sister had the short ribs and they were tasty. I had a burger well done (and it was!) with both fries and a side salad. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals and felt it was a good value for the cost. Love, Nicole
