Probably my fault for ordering chips and fish. I will say this, our server was outstanding. We loved his personality and sense of humor. He was very pleasant and friendly. Seating availability inside and out. So bummed about the food though. The fish was not great. The batter had a funky taste to it. I couldn't figure it out. I thought at first it was the dipping sauce, but it wasn't. The fish and batter ratio were not great. Very little fish meat. Dry. Most likely will never come back and not in a bad way. Wow! I can't say enough great things about this place! We stopped by on our way further north and didn't know what to expect. We got the Blue Burger and the BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger with fries and onion rings. WOAH! The food was absolutely delicious, you could tell everything was fresh from the juicy patty to the super soft burger buns. Plus the rings and fries were the perfect crunchiness. But even better than the food was the service!! Our server, Bobby, was so nice and attentive. We sat outside with our dog and he brought her some nice cold water and was just the nicest guy! One of my favorite places to eat when i'm traveling on highway 395. They have a huge list of sandwiches and burgers, along with dinner items. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich with a fiery tabasco-like sauce. The chicken is grilled then cooled off by coleslaw, blue cheese and a tomato slice. So delicious! The heat is a perfect balance. I splurged and got their onion rings, which were fantastic. I can't wait until my next time through town, when I can visit this restaurant again! Also, their deep fryer was broken: no French fries (one page of their menu was dedicated to burgers), onion rings or other deep fried items. We had dinner at the grill and we had a wonderful time. We called ahead to make reservations, but it didn't seem like it was needed as they were not very busy. But the people who work there do say that they do get busy at times so reservations might be recommended. I had the pesto chicken pasta, and it was very good and huge! I have enough leftovers to probably feed three people. My kids had the butter pasta with Parmesan cheese. The one thing that would cause this to be better. Would an option to add on a protein on the side or a fruit cup. But they were very happy with their meal. My husband had the blackened chicken sandwich, and he had no complaints as well. Step-daughter is doing the PCT and this was the first freshly cooked meal she's had. Ordered a take out of a medium rare steak fritas ($26). It was so well done and non-seasoned. Took forever to chew. Didn't even finish it. *Ended up overcharging after the fact. Receipt in store was $49 (of course I didn't take it with, ugh) Get charged $54 on bank statement. Stop by this place on the way to Reno worst place I have ever eaten stay away from the steak. Chef does not know how to cook a steak at all. It would have been better on a weber grill in my backyard. Mashed potatoes are instant potatoes and have no flavor the whole meal was cold wasted $26. Save yourself some time and go to McDonald's or the pizza place across the street. Wow! What a surprise! We have been coming to Lone Pine for many, many years but this is our first visit to the Grill. The food is excellent, the dining room decor is upscale but comfortable, the service is welcoming and excellent. The servings are very generous and an excellent value for the price. I had the carrot soup and the grilled salmon with a cream herb sauce with mashed potato and grilled mixed seasonal veggies. My hubby had a huge Black Angus New York steak that was perfectly cooked medium rare as requested. We would have loved to try the dessert but could not have eaten another bite! read more

I rolled into the grill pretty famished after a gorgeous run along cottonwood lakes. And I was beyond grateful that they're open until 9pm! That is the first prop!! I got the veggie burger, which came with a generous amount of accompaniments including red onion and avocado! It hit the spot. There was no wait on a Thursday evening and the gentleman who was our server had a great sense of humor. Based on his recommendations, I decided on the Pulled Pork sandwich... It was messy - that's how I know it was great! If memory serves me correctly, two of my dining companions ordered the Philly Cheesecake while the other got a chicken dish, I think? We were all pleased with our experience and headed to Whitney Portal to begin our adventure. Overcharged!!!!! Ate at The Grill during resupply while backpacking the John Muir Trail. Food was great, service was not. Got a text later from my husband saying my credit card flagged the transaction asking if I really intended to leave a 40% tip. No. My tip was supposed to be $6.70 but they bumped it up to $13. When I called, the manager argued with me saying I was not over charged. Their receipts showed I paid $39.99. But my credit card statement showed $46.29 and I could prove it. After telling me she couldn't give me the credit refund, the manager was surprised when I said I could come back in and they could make it right by deducting that amount from my second meal there. After going back in and informing the waitress whom I was, they decided to punish me (or recoup the deduction) by skimping terribly on our side salads. They were literally a fist full of greens with exactly only one tiny tomato on top. The salads were nothing like the side salad we received before or like the side salads patrons around us were getting. When I went to the register to pay and introduced myself to the manager as the person who got overcharged, her first reaction was to ask if I was from out of town. She was surprised I was able to come back in. My friend, who's from California, did not get overcharged charged. Other hiker reviews have had the same overcharging complaint. If you are from out of state, watch your bill. read more

I would not recommend this place to anyone! This place has horrible service, terrible quality food, and especially rude workers. Right off the bat we received an eye roll and a mumble from an employee simply after they asked how many. The bathrooms are absolutely disgusting. The ranch is the consistency of straight water, and the food was nasty. There was egg and avocado on my grilled cheese, completely disregarding if I have an allergy. I also received a red item in my water, disgusting! Don't EVER believe you will enjoy a nice, scenic lunch here. Absolutely disgusting. Would love to see the employees eat their own food. read more

A great place to stop! I've been doing the 395 for years and my family always likes to stop at the same places including the trashy Lone Pine McDonald's (i just say trashy bc it's fast food ) but it took me seriously way too long to try this place. I thought you had to go all the way to Bishop for a solid diner that you could rely on- glad I finally found this place ! Clean and pleasant, extensive menu, friendly local staff. Y'all know Covid did these small businesses dirty so skip McDonald's and come check it out for yourself ! read more

I wanted to share my thoughts on the service I received here. June 29th: I came with my dog when it was 105°F outside. The service was exceptional. A lady, whose name I don't know, brought water for my dog and made sure we had a great experience. Thank you for that wonderful service. July 1st: I returned after a two-day backpacking trip with my dog. When I was seated, the server named Billy approached and rudely informed me that dogs were not allowed. I mentioned that I had visited two days earlier with my dog without any issues. He walked away, but later returned, welcomed other guests, and then came back to me, sharing a story about his 17-year-old dog. Despite the awkward start, the food was as good as usual. July 22nd:After another backpacking trip, I visited again. The place was busy due to the high season. I found a seat and waited about 10 minutes for a menu. When Billy brought the menu he told me again about no dog I mentioned that I was here with the dog 3 weeks ago, he didn't have any response for that. I asked to order immediately as I knew what I wanted. He responded with attitude, telling me to wait a minute. After waiting for seven minutes, I decided to stand in line at the register to save servers time. Despite people who arrived after me already getting their food, I asked Billy if I could quickly order two items. His response was rude, stating there were four people ahead of me. This experience with Billy was quite disappointing. Not sure if I go back. Food is good, but with I have better service. read more
