When we first walked in it didn't seem like much, but then again I had never been to an escape room before. I had an absolute blast here! We made it a double date after a miami spice dinner, which turned out to be such a great night. The price was what I expected it to be. We solved the room at the last moment! I was in the mood to do something different and so I decided to call these folks last minute and booked a slot at 9pm for me & my best friend in the Sherlock Holmes room. The pricing was quite affordable and it was an easy Friday night outing before some drinks in the neighborhood. Once we entered the room, our host gave us the rundown of how the challenge worked and the outline of how the puzzles worked in efforts to secure our escape within an hour. We started off in one corner as we made our way around the room solving each puzzle with their appropriate clues earning a piece from each used to solve the final puzzle to obtain the key to exit. It was pretty engaging to use our minds together to solve each step as we laughed through half of the time throughout our hour in the room. I had a great time and recommend it to those looking to celebrate a birthday, throw an office party, or look to get together with plenty of friends for an alternative form of fun. I got a tour of the other rooms designated for larger parties with increased difficulty just to have a visual for ideas for future outings. We had and amazing time! It is located in the back of a building by miracle mile. You have to go up the stairs. They have several rooms, we were given the moderate room, meaning it was not crazy challenging to escape. Jennifer and Bruce provided the BEST customer service. They assisted us with every question we had. The room itself was moderate size. The employees will instruct you how the game works and what to do and not to do. What a fun night out with family and friends! I had never done an escape room before and it was awesome. The Great Escape room is located right off Lejune between Aragon and Giralda. It can be a little tricky to find, but the best option for parking would be street parking on Either Aragon or Giralda and walking in the building between the public parking garage and where the grazianos is. It's right next to Grazianos but the entrance is in the alley. Ok, now that you've found it you can figure out how to escape from your room. The premise of this is to work as a group to solve your puzzles and escape. Depending on the size of your group there are different options and levels of difficulty. I forgot what room we had but we had to solve five puzzles to ultimately unlock the last puzzle which led to our escape. The staff was friendly and the experience was super fun. I had a group of 10 friends book The Great Escape Room for my birthday. The room fits 12, and we had a couple also in the room working with us. Out of my group, I was the only one who had previously done an escape room... and this one just didn't have as much of a fulfilling or exciting experience. In The Great Escape Room, you are given instructions to find the pieces to the puzzles you have to solve, put them together, and then solve the puzzles to escape the room within the given hour. I don't want to give away too much about the puzzles, but what you experience in the room is a challenge to solve independent riddles that are in no way connected to each other. There really isn't a way to have cooperative team work when your group gets split up to solve puzzles that have nothing to do with each other. I would spent 15 minutes trying to solve puzzle A, try to switch over to puzzle B to help, but have absolutely no idea what their line of thinking was, and there would be no time for them to explain to me how they had progressed in the time that had passed. The workers stay in the room with you and will give you hints if you get stuck. Sometimes we would get stuck because the clues were physically broken or too worn from previous players ravaging the props. I do like puzzles, and it is very challenging... but there was just no cohesiveness or reasoning behind what you're doing to escape the room. I think the experience could have been more thoughtful in the creativity, instead of trying to solve random brain teasers. I was disappointed in my experience in this escape room, and it probably didn't help that I've been in better ones. I have done 4 other escape rooms. I'm not exactly an expert; I haven't done over 30 rooms, but I just wanted to share my opinion and observations to help others make a decision among the several escape room businesses in Miami. Perhaps I would've left 3 stars if it was my first experience and assumed that this how all escape rooms operate. My sister-in-law and I decided to book The Great Escape Room (Sherlock Holmes' Library) for my father-in-law for his birthday because he lives very close to it and he LOVES Sherlock Holmes. To mention the positives: 1. I liked how the staff was courteous. 2. I liked the price; it's one of the lowest of all the escape rooms in Miami. 3. It was nice of them to show us the other rooms after we finished ours--no other business has offered that as an option (I'm always curious to see all the themes). 4. They played the Sherlock Holmes soundtrack in the room--that was fun for me although it was very distracting for my sister-in-law so I guess that can go both ways. 5. The place was clean. The bathroom was spotless, I appreciated that. 6. The booking was easy to do online. They sent me a confirmation email right away with very clear instructions on when to arrive and the regulations. 7. I also liked how they allowed us to bring our belongings inside with us instead of leaving them in a locker far away from me where I would be worried about in the back of my mind whilst in the room. As far as the not-so-positives: 1. One of the employees sits in the room with you and your party while your locked in the room. That was not only distracting, but it took away from the fun. We felt like we couldn't really be ourselves or talk to each other the way we would normally because of the someone unfamiliar in our presence. His presence was actually a constant reminder that you're not really under any illusion and you're not really locked in a room. It took a bit of eagerness from us. If the business does this to ensure safety to customers and/or property, you can easily do that by monitoring with a video camera and speaker or walkie talkie or even an app that can be used as a walkie. In those 30 minutes that a group is waiting to enter a room, they could have the group download the same app and communicate/give hints that way. Anything other than having someone sit there and watch us. 2. The employee that sat in the room with us gave hints when we did not ask for them. I understand he may have done that to be helpful, but we paid to figure things out for ourselves. He also explained to us prior to starting, that we could ask for help if we needed it (after the first 10 or 15 min into the game), so it was not necessary for him to chime in unexpectedly. 3. The S.H. Library was very small but that wasn't bad because it had a lot of decor and furniture--I thought it would be fun to look at everything and look for clues! Plus we were a small group of 4 adults so the size of the room was ok. It was not scavenger hunt style as it is stated on their website though. It was more like a bunch of puzzles that had nothing to do with each other. Each puzzle that you had to work on just had a large box of clues right underneath it and a combination-locked small box next to it. You had to put the clues together and figure out a 4 digit combination to open the small box. That was lackluster. 4. The story was not thrilling. It was Sherlock Holmes "testing you" to see if you could be part of his league. The staff did not get us hyped before starting the room nor did they do anything theatrical to get us in there. Other places show you a video prior to the experience to get you excited and have you walk into the room blindfolded. If our monitor (person sitting in the room) lacked anything, it was ENTHUSIASM. 5. Although the monitor was courteous and not rude, he was very dispassionate. It was discouraging. 6. Some of the hints the monitor gave were misleading. When we were struggling with one of puzzles, he noticed me looking at some books outside the clue box to try and find another clue. Then he said out loud "Everything you need to figure out the puzzle is in the box." he repeated it again or twice since the clock started. So, naturally, I just stuck with the box of clues and stopped looking elsewhere. Eventually we couldn't solve that puzzle and he had to "guide us" (give us the answers) by looking at some clues on the floor. Then I told him "So the clues are NOT all in the box." To which he replied, "Yes they are; all the objects you need are in the box." I argued back, "You said everything we need to figure out the puzzle was in the box. That's very misleading. Why would I look to the floor after that?" He didn't say anything else about that. His body language told me he didn't like what I said and that he didn't care enough... maybe it was not his intention to mislead; but that's why it's better not to volunteer information. My review is two-part. I think this place has potential to be a fun experience for either adults or for mature kids. We scouted the place prior to reserving it for my son's 14th birthday party. The person who gave us the tour was very nice and told us that for a beginner room, it would be up to 16 participants, which sounded like too many teenagers, but we went with it and reserved. Also, this person was very professional and amicable and we figured they were trained to handle a group of 16 teenagers to do an escape room. The day of the party rolls around...we are greeted by a different person--no personality, kind-of on the rude end of the spectrum, but we thought maybe it's part of "being in character" for the Sherlock Holmes theme. Boy-oh-boy were we wrong. The moment the kids were in the escape room, we heard him shout at the kids about behavior and touching things -- this could have been down as ground rules before entering the game, in a nicer tone. After that, we broke away back into the "ballroom" to set up and decorate for when the kids came out--we rented the ballroom for $250 an hour. In a nutshell: the ballroom was a vintage-y large area; when the kids came out they had not escaped; the kids said only like 4-5 of them were actually solving the mystery, and the rest were messing around. They also complained that it was "very hot like no air conditioning" in the escape room. So our take is...don't do a large group if it's teenagers. Depending on how mature they are, adjust the group size up or down. With our high-energy kids, I would say no more than 6 tops!!! Now, I think the place should have known better with 9+ years experience at this location. We noticed the staff, however, extremely lackadaisical -- there was zero support in set-up, group management, direction, timing, etc. and no photo-op with props like shown in the yelp reviews--that never happened. You are basically entering, setting up and cleaning up on your own with no interaction with staff. And twice, strangers scoping the location entered the ballroom space which was both confusing for everyone and a safety hazard when you have other people's children under your care. If I knew what I know now, I would not have rented the ballroom. I would've taken six kids, maybe and left afterwards. Spent a good amount of money on the party ($823 on just location/experience, food and decor not included) and think it maybe was worth a third of that. Very disappointed in the overall experience. Was so excited and very very let down. The owner really needs to look into hiring new staff. It looks like they are all just hanging out and not wanting to work. It's actually a little bit sad when they have such a fun place to work at. Thank goodness we planned for an after party at our house afterwards where the kids had a total blast; otherwise the party would have been a complete disaster and a waste of money. Alright, so when I first heard of escape rooms I was like really, how can that be fun. And then when I saw this place for the first time, I really thought really??!!! But I'm happy to say that the concept behind escape rooms is pretty amazing, especially if your into problem solving and analysis. We did the Great Escape's Presidential Bunker which they said was the hardest and I gotta say it was a blast. Aside from that there was lack of enthusiasm in the room on their part, if they're going to be in the room then be useful. I guess because of covid they have strict protocols so the room isn't set up for you to look around. All the puzzles were on one wall and the clues were just set up right underneath so no looking around it was just solving. Not all that fun! I've been to other places during covid and it's usually like normal just with masks and gloves. Kind of pricey for the lack of scavenging. Came here for a friends birthday with a group of 16 people. We went in one of the larger rooms and it definitely felt a little chaotic. The staff was friendly and very kind. Comapred to the only other escape room experience I've had, the quality of the puzzle was a little cheap. It feels like its composed of goodwill finds and the decor is not immersive enough to feel real..its just a bunch of random tchotchkes in an elementary class room environment. Production level is zero but most of the individual puzzles were clever and well scripted. We were overcharged and the way it was done was quite unpleasant. We call first to ask how much the cost is for 4 people and they tell us it's $135. We then called again to make a reservation for only 3 people and mentioned that we want it for just ourselves which cost $135. Normally it would be $95 but there is a chance for others to join. We asked that we might have a 4th person, but wanted to keep it private so the final charge is $135. When we got there we ended up bringing the 4th person. As we are about to get into the room, the guy comes out and tells us they need to charge us an additional $35. Even though we tried to fight it, there wasn't time and we had to go into the room. We ended paying $165+ for 4 people. That's more than what was promised over the phone. Not only that they did it in a way we couldn't discuss properly as we didn't want to make a big fuss over it before going into the room in front of the kids. Not sure if this is the normal price but it was not well communicated and more than we would expect for 4 ppl, 1 game for 1 hr. Regarding the game itself, it was challenging and fun and the mediator was helpful but kept it challenging as well. However, The AC was broken. So we were trying to solve the puzzles in a very warm room that only gets warmer while we are in there. Also the attention to detail was not great. The story was a bit cheesy. I've done about 20 Escape Rooms so far. In order to give an honest review, I consider difficulty, host and storyline, décor (Props), fluidity and fun factor. I believe that these factors are needed to fully enjoy an escape room. This was a different type of EscapeRoom. It felt like a scavenger hunt. This game doesn't have a story line or at list we were not given one. The hosts were inside the room with us during the game. This was very unusual, in my experience. The lady supervising said that we found it but one of us must of put it in our pocket or misplaced it....we searched and nothing. She ended up reaching into a bucket and giving us a peg. If you're dying to get back to class after graduating high school, you've found just the place! This is practically a big, well-lit classroom jam-packed with equations, geography, and all of the rest of the subjects that make me want to throw up just thinking about. Okay - let me try and say the things that I like about this room first because I don't particularly enjoy only being pessimistic. Some of the clues were cool. I know that sounds vague and unhelpful, but that's exactly how I feel about them. They were just "cool." I'm very much into engaging, thrilling escape rooms so maybe I'm just biased because this is the exact opposite of that. Okay, now on to the rest. You have two employees sitting on chairs at the other side of the room the entire time. Don't worry, they're on their phones. And don't worry some more - they come in and out of the room whenever they want. So just pretend with all of your might that that door they keep coming in and out of us locked. Okay?! GET INTO IT. The story. Sherlock Holmes is testing you to see if you are worthy to be a part of his league. That's it. You are not in the middle of one of his mysteries, nothing happens if you escape or don't escape. It's riveting. The clues. There are too many and they are far too long. You will more than likely miss out on most of it. I hate that. One of my favorite parts of escape rooms is coming together as a team and solving things as a unit. There is NO way to solve this while doing that. You have to split up, and in doing so, none of you will know what the other is doing. You'll just see them solve a puzzle and try to do the same for your own. I personally solved the blue puzzle. It was...underwhelming. I still don't know how I solved it. I think I just started guessing numbers at one point and crossed my fingers. But, I did! So...there's that. Another downfall was they didn't let you make your own mistakes! The entire time they'll say things like "No! You don't need that clue yet." GEEZ LET ME LEARN FOR MYSELF! I just couldn't get into the experience with them hovering like that. Or being on their phones. Or coming in and out of the room. Okay, I already said that. Moving on. Some of the equipment they used to keep clues in was seemingly bought at the 99 cent bin at Home Depot. Yes, I know there's no 99 cent bin at Home Depot but I really need you to use your imagination for this mental picture. We were stuck on the last puzzle so I literally opened the bin far enough and just reached my hand in to get the clue out - all while it was still locked. It was made out of plastic so this wasn't too hard of a task. They quickly told me I couldn't do that which was really out of character for them because it's not like them to hover. Or be on their phones. Or come in and out of the room. Even when they told us the last thing we needed to escape the room, I was underwhelmed. There is no thrill - and although some clues are "cool", I don't recommend this room. And no offense to anyone who liked it - but I really believe it's because they might have been first timers not knowing what to expect. I came mentally prepared to take on the role as lead detective but boy oh boy, I was not ready. ] First, the location, this takes some detective work too, this establishment is located on the corner of Le Jeune Road and Aragon Ave (right beside LaSalle Cleaners). There is limited alley parking beside the entrance for establishment and you may see neighboring business workers taking there smoke break. The Great Escape is located on the second floor so be prepared to climb some stairs. After getting inside, you will be asked to sit in a room with the group you are going to be with, this was a great time to introduce yourself and have some causal conversation. You will also be asked to sign some paperwork for things such as giving the business the right to take pictures of you. This is also the part where if you need to use the bathroom before going into the room - you should. As you enter the room, you will notice how well it is put together, you will then be introduced to the rules of the game and will listen to a recorded message (make sure to listen carefully). You will be given ONE HOUR to get out of this now locked room. There are things that need to be taken apart, puzzles that need to be put together and boxes that need to be unlocked. This game also requires alot of mental strength and making sense of what is just not making sense (lol). This is something that is fun and is great for groups and team builders. Unfortunately, my group did not escape as we were literally stumped on the lastttttttt thing before getting out of the room. You will end up leaving appreciative of teamwork and the use of knowledge that you will obtain. I had the best time! I went in a group of 6 and we did Sherlock's Library. It was great! It was challenging for sure, but attainable. We escaped with just over a minute left! They have other rooms that are more challenging and with different themes. They all look like they will be a ton of fun! The staff was extremely friendly. Our monitor, who stays in the room to assist if you need a clue or are completely stuck, was helpful and funny, but didn't get in our way. He assisted only when needed. It was nice not having to look for someone and wait for them to be available to assist. The clues were very witty and it definitely took a group effort. We all had an amazing time! I can tell it was made with good intentions. The thing is, after experiencing a few different escape rooms now, this one just doesn't match up. To start with the positives: The people that work here are nice and willing to help. There's a few cool moments with the puzzles that are creative and fun. They had some music and some cool audio bits from Mr Holmes himself that added a nice touch. On to the things I think can improve: First of all, I would say this is more of a "buckle down and solve puzzles that could have very easily been word problems you've seen in high school" and not the blood pumping, thrilling experience filled with mind-bending interactive puzzles that you might expect from an escape room. The room is well-lit and looks very very much like a classroom. The idea is that Sherlock Holmes is putting you through this experience to see if you're worthy of joining his league. If you lose, you aren't worthy. So off the bat, the stakes aren't very high. The puzzles are extremely spread out so chances are high that you won't even get your hands on 2 or more of the puzzles which kind of made me feel like I missed out on a big chunk of the room. The puzzles themselves were...kind of brainy. Like I said, it's a lot like trying to solve high school word problems. The guys who run it were in the room with us the whole time, sometimes they were on their phones. This was distracting and just reminded me that I'm in a room with a bunch of people pretending to be locked in. In other words, it took me out of the experience. They also kept over-controlling what we did. Like, if I was going to use a tool incorrectly, they would say, "No, you don't need that yet!". Part of the fun of an escape room experience for me is finding things out for myself. I would much rather use the tool incorrectly and realize it's wrong for myself. It's more realistic in my opinion. One of the puzzles (the green puzzle) just grinded my gears! I obviously won't get into the specifics but it was the last puzzle we had left to solve and the one that we got stumped on. Even after we failed the room and were told the answer, I just thought the puzzle was soooo bleh. I'm obviously biased but ugh! It was one of those puzzles that made me go...that was the answer!? Bleh. I'd add on some stars to this experience if: -At least one of the employees got out of that room! I understand at least one is needed as it's the way that this particular experience gives you clues, but the more employees in there, the more distracting for us. And please have the employee that is in there stay off his phone. -The employees stopped micromanaging what the people are doing. Let us fail, let us figure things out on our own. It's part of the fun. -The price of the experience was lowered. Honestly, considering the production value and experience as a whole, this is just not a $28 experience in my opinion. I feel $20 is fair for the service here. -The plastic boxes holding the main tools were replaced with metal boxes. Our group could literally reach in and grab what was in there without cracking the codes on the locks. It was a bit amateurish. -The puzzles were clearer. The blue puzzle and green puzzle come to mind. The red puzzle was really cool. It's puzzles like this that make you excited when you figure out the answer because it all comes together nicely when you solve it. That's about it I think! All in all, a cute experience but definitely not for anyone who's looking for an adrenaline pumping time. Hope this helps! read more

This was such a blast! We attended the President's bunker soft opening. That room is CHALLENGING! We almost made it out, but we ran out of time at the last challenge. I totally recommend it. read more
