My wife and I stayed there for the first time. Everything was clean and efficiently-organized. We had a wonderful time meeting up with a few friends there for music and camp-firing late into the night, but very adult and chill and relaxed. HIGHLY recommend it.

The campground was clean, the lake is a pond and what they call a pond is a swamp, small hiking trails but good family fun, the 11pm noise rule is not adhered to my last 3 days after new guests arrived was aweful partying across the way from new Yorkers then our site was invaded by another family to do yoga while I cooked breakfast 2days in a row... had to play cards di b to scare off the yogies!!!! The pool was nice but often over crowded and limited hours of use. The Lake is for fishing and boating, not swim able.

I'm updating my review to The Great Divide here. Three years ago I gave them five stars for an amazing campground in northern New Jersey. I wish I could give them six even seven Stars. we have continued to go there and each season the place gets even better. This season we spent three weekends there and every one of them was fantastic. There are now seriously using themes on their weekends complete with appropriate live music. the entire staff is amazing. I wish I could name some names, but they're all awesome. We especially enjoy the art classes with Tim. This is unique in campgrounds. each weekend they have at least one band playing either at the barn or in the Pavilion. Sometimes they even have 2! This campground is not to be missed!

NYS doesn't have a centralized booking system for campsites like NJ does which makes the, booking, experience so much easier especially for noobs like me. I visited the group camping site at this state park for a large meetup family group camping trip. I passed several solo camp sites down the road leading up to the group camp site and all the sites seemed to be situated nicely along the road side. Working facilities are near the individual camp sites but for the group sites you get the good 'ol fashion out house which I wasn't a fan of but managed to drop it like it's hot as needed right down into the abyss of a hole for the toilet. No showers or working facilities near the group site but you can drive over to one for a hot shower. The best part of this state park is the absolutely awesome astronomy club that has an observatory you can visit and use the super expensive telescopes to see other planets with the guide of an astronomer. The staff at the astronomy club are all eager and delighted to answer questions to all who are curious. Peering through a telescope to see the rings of Saturn is absolutely awesome! If interested the observatory is located within a stones throw from the main park entrance at 333 State Park Road, Great Meadows, NJ 07838. The observatory is free to visit but they do have donation bins there to help support their projects and facility. While this state park doesn't have as many camp sites as other locations I've visited, the astronomy club makes this place an epic visit!

At 3,494 acres it is the largest park in the Morris county Park System. The park has 24.5 miles of multi-use trails including a blazed bike trail. Horseback riding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, fishing, bow hunting, tent and RV camping are available. There are hiking trails for all levels. Headley Overlook at 1,280 feet provides a view of Lake Hopatcong. Saffin Pond provides fishing opportunities although no swimming or boating is allowed. Bird watchers often come to observe migratory birds. Beaver inhabit this pond and can often be seen. The park is free with the exception of RV and tent camping which require a permit. For $20 you will get water and electricity (30-50 amp) hookup for your RV. Spots are wide and well separated. The park has clean restrooms and a bear proof garbage system.

The campgrounds have 4 lean-to's, each with a picnic table and fire ring. Wood is for sale, on the honor system, you drop off your cash in an envelope by where the RV's are (wish they had a box closer!). There is a water source right in this area, and two porta johns. They also have numerous tent platforms, it's an easy straightforward spot. It's almost right next to Weldon Road which runs through the reservation, so you do hear some cars. On the plus side this means you don't have to lug your gear far. I stuck to the Yellow, Blue, and Teal Highland trails. There are some nice overlooks, Headley overlook is perfect for a night hike since it's right by the camp site. I saw some fishers at Saffin Pond. Black bears are all over the Jersey wilderness and they have brochures available right next to the trail map pamphlets explaining how to keep your camp site safe from them, also what to do if you run into one. I didn't see any during my visit but I did see a deer, a beaver dam, a garter snake, a bat that wanted to chill in my lean-to overnight, and a bunch of cute orange newts. Fiddleheads, skunk cabbage, and spring onions were some of the common plant life. Early in the season, over the course of a weekend, I saw maybe five other people- two mountain bikers, two fishermen, and a guy with his dogs on the trail. I had a great time, and if you're new to camping or hiking, or easing yourself back into either having taking a break, this is a great, quiet place to visit. I wouldn't say it's something to come out of your way for.

Whitewater Challengers is very organized and they are constantly trying to maintain that organization, even on the water. From parking your vehicle; all the staff members directing you throughout the property, checking in with different color papers and boarding cards, and even on the bus ride back... it was very well organized. All guides are clearly knowledgable about the river and everyone had a great attitude; everyone really appreciated that. It's obvious the guides genuinely care about making this a great experience for their guests. Our group engaged with Jen and Rober. They had great personalities and clearly love what they do. If you are concerned about riding the river with children or with older family members then have no fear! The rapids were fun but I wish they were a little more rough/busy. Certainly not challenging for families with children; there was a younger Boy Scout group on our trip and they all handled it with ease. Go ahead and book that weekend river trip with the fam! My only complaints were the "hurry up and wait" of the whole journey. I understand we are traveling with a big group and we are trying to stay together but we stopped a total of 5-6 times including lunch. It felt like we only got about 15-20 mins of solid rafting then we had to wait 15-20mins for the rest of the group to catch up. Kind of annoying. And the claim that these are class 2-3 rapids may be factually true but I would consider these class 1 maybe class 2 on a great day. With the stopping and waiting and calm water for almost half the trip, I can see why some people may be disappointed. There were about 15-20 rafts in our group. Overall, this was a solid weekend activity and it deserves 5 stars. With all the organization and very friendly river guides it was a great day. The staff can clearly handle any group and they know the river like the back of their hand. Please take all the reviews into consideration and consider shortening the amount of stops on the river to corral the group; there's got to be another way that is also safe. Thanks, hope to return again soon!

What a disaster. I have gone twice with Girl Scouts and again with boy scouts. My first adventure…read morewith the girl scouts was generally enjoyable. Nothing notable to report but not overwhelmingly great either. The last time I went with the Boy Scouts was one of the worst weekends of my life. There was some river guide who named himself "zombie". He has the worst chip on this shoulder ever. First, he got nearly naked on the bus clearly wanting to show off all his tattoos. Inappropriate in front of a bunch of kids. If he was discreet then fine. He was showboating and it was gross. Then while on the river, I splashed with a paddle. It is indeed against the rules and I was wrong for that. However I knew I messed up the second I did it. A reminder would have been sufficient. Oh no. Zombie came over immediately and berated me loudly in front of everyone (including the kids). Yikes. I said "understood, I'm sorry". He then continued saying he was "gonna hike me out of 'his' trip" if he saw it again. What? He was going to evict me from the boat in the middle of nowhere and walk me home? Alone? What the hell is wrong with this guy? I don't care how capable or good of a river guide he is. If he's going to talk to customers who paid for the trip like garbage, then he doesn't belong there (especially around kids). Major jerk. Then we camped there overnight. Some camp site decided to have a rager party. Like thumping music turned up to full volume that could be heard for miles. No one came to quiet them down. At midnight I had to walk over myself and ask if they could please let us sleep. They said no and it kept going. I called the campsite phone # and got a voicemail. No one was there to help. Needless to say we didn't sleep at all. Just a generally unpleasant experience. You need to get rid of this zombie person. You can't call yourself "zombie" then demand to be taken seriously. Give me a break. You need someone who can patrol the campsite and keep order and the campers safe. Don't go here and waste your money.
