Really this place deserves 4.5 stars! Lovely place to stay. Gorgeous terrain. Big open spots for campers. Quiet for the most part! I loved it! Showers are conveniently located. HOT water ! Cons: no septic hook up (only dump station), water is far away from sites and not available in the winter, understandable for the area. Lastly would be the random LOUD noises at night. I'm not sure what is in the area to cause these loud metal bangs but I'm assuming there is a construction site or similar close by, it's very loud in the middle of the night. No pull through sites.

We needed a campground near our adult children who each live about 45 minutes from here. There is NOTHING closer. So we had no real choice. Call ahead and talk to Preston. He asked us what kind of rig we had and then held for us, what was, in his opinion, the easiest and most level spot. It's #16 by the way! We loved it! Our spot had been newly paved with hook-ups for electric and water. Wooded and shaded. The bathrooms were sparkling clean. Showers were in the same building as the toilets, but separate with locking doors so very private and comfortable. Can't speak to the hiking opportunities, we did not have the time to partake. If you camp and you want something within a reasonable distance from NYC, this is the place to go. At about 25 bucks a night, it's a real bargain in this area.

The front desk lady was super sweet and got us set up quickly. The lack of stars is mainly because of the quality of the camp. It costs $40 a night which is pricey compared to other campsites but you get a pretty spacey area that has a fire pit with a lakeside view. At the same time, for the cost it does not deliver on the other amenities (see more below). Also, for $5 you can grab all the wood you need for your fire pit. I'm not surprised that the place has low stars mainly because the bathroom wasn't open (it had a padlock on it) and even if it was the shed itself looked really unkept. We also followed their guide map to use the showers but it led to someone else's property in the back.. Overall, a decent place to stay if you just need a place to park overnight.

Headed to Tomahawk Lake as it was our go to once upon a time. The price PER PERSON (not per car load) was $22 ... and that was NOT including the water park. If you wanted to add on entrance to the water park it was ANOTHER $15 PER PERSON! We were a party of 4 adults and 3 teens and it would've literally been $259 to ENTER the lake!!!!! AIN'T NO WAY! For that price we could've done a real amusement park, a real water park ... a real lotta other things worth $259. Needless to say we ventured elsewhere but wanted everyone to be aware of this absolute absurdity before wasting your time and gas venturing up there.

I regretted it right away. It's ridiculously crowded - no problem with parking as they sure made extra space in the back, but driving to the back woods parking lot I was afraid we were gonna hit someone cos of people walking indifferently on the paths. The tiny "beach" is made of hard packed sand, the texture of a dirt road. There are many garbage cans around, which, I appreciate that as there's nothing worse than trash on the ground, but I also don't want to be sitting next to one. There are some picnic tables in the further grassy areas that seemed more chill but the tables close to the water could not be crammed any closer together. The water where kids are playing in is murky and gross looking, as to be expected cos sediments stir up, but this just does not look clean and is way too full of people. And I would not call this a water park - it's a lake with some dingy play structures on it and some boat rides. There also don't seem to be enough lifeguards for this many kids. Summer prices (July 1-Aug 20) are $20pp over 9yo, and $18 for under 9, but you have to pay additionally for the water slides ($13-$17) and other activities. You might as well take your family to a proper waterpark for this price. Maybe once upon a time it was cute as people seem to have nostalgic memories of this place (and they definitely trade on the camp nostalgia), but it seems the park operator is only interested in packing in as many people as possible to the detriment of the experience. There is good live music with a guy playing old time rock n roll, they have hash browns yay (3 for $2.50), and my toddler had fun regardless of my lack of enjoyment or relaxation, hence the extra star.

The owners are nice and accommodating. I called to make a reservation and was able to do so. It was $35.00 a night. The price includes your campsite, fire pit, access to kayaks, showers, and bathroom. To be clear, we picked a site where you can set up a tent and not an RV. But RV sites are also available. Check in was a breeze and was brought to our site once we checked in. Wood is sold on the site. Its a dollar per log. We did see a bear by the garbage and immediately called the owners to let them know. They did come and close the garbage bins and made a lot of noise to lure the bear away. Make sure after you eat you put all food and drinks in your car and leave nothing out once you head to bed. This will attract bears if you leave stuff out over night.

Most of the campers are legacy (daughters of campers) or have been attending since the early grades. My daughter attended as a rising 6th grader and was not welcomed. The camp counselors were previous campers and promoted inappropriate behavior. They gave one of the girls in their bung (cabin) "honorary counselor" status which exacerbated the situation. From a facilities perspective, the toilets were out of services for a few days so the girls got buckets of water from the lake to flush the toilets. We also paid the additional fee for riding sessions. However, she was asked to clean the stable instead and her sessions were given to legacy campers (the activities are supervised by counselors). We've traveled over 5000 miles this holiday and stayed in a variety of camp grounds and take the worse roads you have ever seen and times it by 10. It was scary pulling the rv in. Major MASSIVE pot holes, un even roads. Lose 1 star due to presentation. I wish I had taken more photos. But this place does not show a "camp ground" it is more like an "trailer park". Many (most all) the guests clearly live there full time. Many units it looks like a dump outside. Trash and garbage everywhere. And trailers are packed in TIGHT. Bumper to bumper! Many units have freezers outside and most have diy trashing looking trailer skirts. This is not entirely the parks fault but several units didn't even watch their kids! I saw a kid chase a dog and it's owner, the dog Trying to bite it and the kid tried to go into the persons camper! And this same kid would not stop taunting and teasing my own dogs so much that I couldn't even walk them. Cars are parked all over the area, making it difficult to get in and out. To get into the park, someone had to move their car. To leave the park we had to inch by as there were 10+ cars parked along the exit. The exit, which has METAL SPIKES to prevent you from coming in the wrong way. Staff was friendly and gave us no issues! The pool area and the gorgeous lake were in good condition. So much potential here if the roads were better and the tenants cleaned up. The game groom is indoors and has carpet. The only "complaint" I have is that it's not right around the corner from me, otherwise I'd be there every day with my daughter. My 2 year old daughter had a blast at Tagalongs. I would say this is her favorite play place. She is not a physically active child and really prefers to use her imagination so Tagalongs was the perfect place for her. She would run back and forth to all the different shop fronts pretending to be a waitress at the diner, camping in the camper van, fishing from the boat, doing hair at the salon, and even fighting fires on the fire truck. Her favorite place to hang is the Vet Office where she can take care of all the furry friends there. They even have a cool lego wall which kept her occupied for quite some time. Tagalongs also has a physical component to it where kids can climb, slide, and bounce on the trampoline. We were there on weekdays and it was never super crowded. Kids were running all over, but it was never overwhelming. All the kids were having a great time. The play place is immaculate and the staff is very very friendly. You pay their entrance fee and then you can come and go throughout the day. Most play places give you a 2 hour time limit and then you have to leave or pay extra. I love that you can come early, then go out and grab lunch, and then come back in the afternoon. Everything about Tagalongs is perfect! If you have a child who loves to use their imagination, this is the place for them. They will have a great time!

Nothing like camping overnight in rustic county parks with outdoor recreation. Nice to know that…read moreMahwah offers such a place -- an easy drive from most anywhere in Northern NJ. If you have youngsters and want to get their camping feet wet just a little bit -- this is a great place for a first experience. Ok -- so Glen Gray 'aint Yellowstone or some equally impressive National Park -- but what it lacks in "gee whiz" visual appeal is more than made up for by its convenience, cleanliness, affordability and variety of hiking and camping experience. GGC is -- first and foremost -- a boy scout oriented facility -- so it is set up like one -- with a trading post -- full time "Camp Master" -- and circular camp sites with wooden tent floors -- organized for a larger pack or troop. Each site has a fire pit, dining area (including one with a roof in the event of inclement weather) and a basic -- gender neutral latrine for washing your mess kit and such. No showers -- but hey -- who needs showers when you can go off the grid with a lake and canoes -- right? And this 'aint tailgating folks -- so you need to park your car at the lot near the entrance -- and be prepared to hump your gear to a campsite which -- depending on where you choose to stay -- could be a couple of miles away. But fear not. For a nominal fee -- the Camp Master or one of his minions will drive you and your coolers to and from the site -- no worries. ;) I enjoyed the weekend I spent here with Junior and his scouting mates. We humped in and back with our packs -- fished (one of our group landed a large mouth bass -- but its a catch and release lake - bummer) feasted on MRE's, sardines, franks & beans and s'mores -- and had a blast fending off the bear and raccoons that dropped in to pay a visit. GGC also offers cabins and lean-to's -- so you can regulate exactly how much nature you want in your camping experience -- including what sort of weather you want to endure -- since they are open all year 'round. Top Tip: Glen Gray only allows overnight camping by prior reservation and access comes with a variety of restrictions -- including no pets, bicycles, booze and so forth.
