So well run. Get there at your slotted time and then do all the things to get ready to have a fun day - pick up lunch, get wetsuits if it is cold, listen to the safety instructions. Feel free to bring your own lunch - we ordered from them and wish we had brought our own. Make sure you tuck your toes under the seat in front of you because otherwise you will pop out. Our picture at the end only had 3 people because one had popped out into the river. This was on the 6 hour tour. The guides were nice but in an emergency, which we had where two boats emptied their passengers, it was a little hairy. All in all a great day on the river. Super fun! read more

I have booked with White Water Challengers before and was excited to return because of the great experiences I have had in the past. Unfortunately, our recent trip with a group of six was extremely frustrating due to the organization and scheduling. Our original time slot was changed because there were not enough groups, which we understood. However, our new 10:20 time slot was expanded to accommodate additional groups, and we were then required to wait an extended period for a very large group that arrived late. As a result, we did not begin rafting until after 12:15, and the safety review had to be rushed because of the delay. Throughout the trip, our group was repeatedly forced to stop and wait for the late group, who frequently fell out of their raft and struggled to follow the safety instructions. I estimate we spent close to an hour collectively waiting along the river. Even the group scheduled after ours eventually passed us, and we did not return to the bus until shortly after 5:00. I want to emphasize that Olivia, Bailey, Kristen, and Sid were excellent guides and did their best under difficult circumstances. My frustration is entirely with the organization and scheduling of the trip. Additionally, while this was outside of anyone's control, we paid for Class II and III rapids, but the river flow that day was approximately 820 CFS, making the experience much closer to Class I and II. I hope you will take this feedback seriously, as this experience was significantly different from the positive experiences that led me to book with White Water Challengers again. read more

What a disaster. I have gone twice with Girl Scouts and again with boy scouts. My first adventure with the girl scouts was generally enjoyable. Nothing notable to report but not overwhelmingly great either. The last time I went with the Boy Scouts was one of the worst weekends of my life. There was some river guide who named himself "zombie". He has the worst chip on this shoulder ever. First, he got nearly naked on the bus clearly wanting to show off all his tattoos. Inappropriate in front of a bunch of kids. If he was discreet then fine. He was showboating and it was gross. Then while on the river, I splashed with a paddle. It is indeed against the rules and I was wrong for that. However I knew I messed up the second I did it. A reminder would have been sufficient. Oh no. Zombie came over immediately and berated me loudly in front of everyone (including the kids). Yikes. I said "understood, I'm sorry". He then continued saying he was "gonna hike me out of 'his' trip" if he saw it again. What? He was going to evict me from the boat in the middle of nowhere and walk me home? Alone? What the hell is wrong with this guy? I don't care how capable or good of a river guide he is. If he's going to talk to customers who paid for the trip like garbage, then he doesn't belong there (especially around kids). Major jerk. Then we camped there overnight. Some camp site decided to have a rager party. Like thumping music turned up to full volume that could be heard for miles. No one came to quiet them down. At midnight I had to walk over myself and ask if they could please let us sleep. They said no and it kept going. I called the campsite phone # and got a voicemail. No one was there to help. Needless to say we didn't sleep at all. Just a generally unpleasant experience. You need to get rid of this zombie person. You can't call yourself "zombie" then demand to be taken seriously. Give me a break. You need someone who can patrol the campsite and keep order and the campers safe. Don't go here and waste your money. read more

I am 25, i went on this trip for my first time when i was maybe around 10 yrs old. We went a few times, then did the NY one last when i was about 12. Anyways i wanted to do this one again cause its been so long i couldnt remember the whole set up and how aggressive it was. I brought 4 people who were entirely inexperienced. All of us had an amazing time, but we also agreed it was too easy. But that was good as for all of us, as we were not either experienced or its just been a long time. They did tell us however the water was at 1000 cfm from the dam, and that the one they do on columbus day is 4000-5000 cfm of water. Id like to see that one to see how different it may be. But we will be doing the NY one next now that my crew has got this one under their belt. read more

What a thrill and a amazing wow factor! If your up for the challenge definitely check out Whitewater Challengers and have a fantastic Whitewater rafting experience. So I was hesitant at first but I was glad to join a group of friends at the Poconos for an adventure of a lifetime. The staff at Whitewater Challengers were all nice. Check in was easy, our group leader basically confirmed all of our attendance and we were then giving life jackets and escorted via bus to the river. Once we arrived at the rafting site, we each picked a boat and was off to sail the seas for 5 hours. A half hour was spent eating lunch. The experience was awesome in the river and I felt safe knowing that staff was traveling around us in separate canoes just to make sure that we were okay. Overall the rapids were a big thrill, the views of the mountains were breathtaking and the water gun fights had me reliving my childhood. Hi Bob , hope your day is going well. 1)After the check-in we were sited to do orientation and some people of our group were drinking,but a guide approached us and told us we can't drink before the rafting ,so we took everything and throw it away.The lady told us other rules and then she went to explain the orientation.After we throw everything and the orientation was done,the manager approached us.He kindly ask to check what we had inside the buckets and we took out everything and he said that we were all good.Nobody told us that we couldn't have more than one bucket ,they even give us 4 at the start and we were going inside the bus when the manager told us we can't carry bags only buckets and we grabbed another one.Yess,is the guides job to check on everyone but it doesn't mean that they need to be consistently around us .Yes,my friend splashed with the paddle as the other 20 people that were they,but nobody except us received this treatment.It is completely untrue that during the rafting we were unbuckling our life jackets,never did.The only time that we did it, it was when there was the lunch brake and we were not in the water. I took off my boot once and the guide kindly told me that it is better to have them on,so i told her that the only reason that i took it off it was that my feet were full of water and after that i put it on immediately.After we arrived for lunch break we took it off again,only because our feet were full of water.And about the boots ,you should wash them better ,because they smelled bad and all wet. Whitewater rafting was so fun and our guides were great, however they get a one star because they did not provide our group helmets. All of the guides had helmets, but when we asked where our helmets were they laughed and made a joke. Well...my Fiancée fell off the raft and almost banged her head on a huge rock. Not cool. I'm shocked they operate so unsafely because everything else about the operation seemed well run. I would have left a 5 star review otherwise, but the lack of helmets is a major NO. Yeah... my friend group was THAT group...we tipped over and fell into the water... BUT it was epic and we had NO regrets! All the staff are very friendly and everything seems very organized! This was our first time ever rafting and honestly we were pretty scared! But our instructor made the whole experience very safe and smooth! Also be careful, you will get WET and ur clothes will stink afterwards! Also invest in some water shoes they are a lifesaver! Our guide, Sid, was the BOMB! Without him the rafting trip would've been NOT worth the money! He was SUPER nice and was really funny! He made us feel really comfortable and made our trip really amazing! He even taught us about the history of the river and showed us a lot of really beautiful waterfalls! Even when our raft tipped over and the majority of us fell out, he stayed calmed and managed to rescue us very swiftly! So if you didn't get the point already... you should DEFINITELY get this guy as your guide! PS. The waters were the HIGHEST they have ever been on the day we went! We had a great time on the river today. We opted for the premier plus in order to have a smaller group. We couldn't have been happier. Our guides were knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating. Besides guiding us safely through some exciting rapids, they also brought us to a couple of sightseeing spots, like a waterfall. They also laid out a nice lunch for us consisting of homemade humus, fresh fruits and veggies, all the fixings to make wraps and homemade chocolate chip cookies. We had such a great time with them we are looking at taking a trip to their NY site. We will definitely return to raft the Lehigh with them again. read more

This is an awesome rafting place . I had a group of 5 people and we went in one raft. It was very nice the river has many rocks but it made it fun and our raft was going fast. We had 2 guides and it's good to have them because in case anything happens like any one falling of raft they are there. They also gave us cues to when to make certain turns in river because it is rocky river . One thing Is you can't wear crocks . You need sneakers or swimmer shoes . I ended up buying swim shoes which U can buy at their store for 12.99$ the whole trip is 5 hours long but super fun. You get one stop and u can swim there. It's very scenic. This was a great experience. From booking to getting out on the river was fairly smooth. Be mindful that you should have more than 4 in your group or you will be paired with another group of 2-4 people. Dress appropriately and it is beneficial that you bring a waterproof bag to hold your snacks. You will be out on the river for 5 hours though it didn't feel like it. They do have hot showers afterwards and food for you to buy. We will be coming back. This loses a star because of the customer service a the food vendor seemed to be prejudice and wasn't helpful towards African Americans. 5 stars for the actual white water experience. read more

I took two of my teen girl scouts to one of WWC scout weekends. The facilities were very well maintained. They have a new shower house with about 12 private shower rooms. They have a flush toilet house and a compostable toilet house. Both were clean. Their camp store had a lot of supplies such as fire wood, great fire starters and water shoes (for those who forgot theirs.) There is a snack bar as well. It even sells coffee for those who need a fix in the morning. The site was amongst trees and was well maintained. We had a large area for our tent. It was easy to set up on despite arriving in the dark. They had a night worker who rode around on golf cart until 2am. She came by and introduced herself and checked in periodically. I felt very comfortable and found the whole staff helpful. The white water rafting was very organized. The staff was very knowledgable and attentive. We were upgraded to the level 2-3 rapid experience. We were nervous at first since the boats usually run with 4-7 riders and we were only a boat of 3. My teens are petite. The guides continuously checked in with us and made sure we were doing well. We had a fabulous time! We had no trouble navigating the rapids. I would HIGHLY suggest White Water Challengers!! I have been to other tubing/rafting outfitters and WWC was my nest experience so far. read more

We had two terrific days. Cycling Saturday and rafting sunday. I was thoroughly impressed with the organization of their operations from entry to the parking lot through the check-in and departure on the shuttle to the cycling trailhead. Our driver Joe Z, was excellent in explaining the best places to stop along the route and exactly where to go for our pickup. Same excellent organization for our rafting. Our guides gave us the confidence that We would be in good hands on the river. We took the family float as this was our first experience as a family. We had great time and felt very comfortable. Had a great day is past weekend on the water! It was my first time white water rafting instead of our usual white water tubing. Whitewater Challengers is very organized and they are constantly trying to maintain that organization, even on the water. From parking your vehicle; all the staff members directing you throughout the property, checking in with different color papers and boarding cards, and even on the bus ride back... it was very well organized. All guides are clearly knowledgable about the river and everyone had a great attitude; everyone really appreciated that. It's obvious the guides genuinely care about making this a great experience for their guests. Our group engaged with Jen and Rober. They had great personalities and clearly love what they do. If you are concerned about riding the river with children or with older family members then have no fear! The rapids were fun but I wish they were a little more rough/busy. Certainly not challenging for families with children; there was a younger Boy Scout group on our trip and they all handled it with ease. Go ahead and book that weekend river trip with the fam! My only complaints were the "hurry up and wait" of the whole journey. I understand we are traveling with a big group and we are trying to stay together but we stopped a total of 5-6 times including lunch. It felt like we only got about 15-20 mins of solid rafting then we had to wait 15-20mins for the rest of the group to catch up. Kind of annoying. And the claim that these are class 2-3 rapids may be factually true but I would consider these class 1 maybe class 2 on a great day. With the stopping and waiting and calm water for almost half the trip, I can see why some people may be disappointed. There were about 15-20 rafts in our group. Overall, this was a solid weekend activity and it deserves 5 stars. With all the organization and very friendly river guides it was a great day. The staff can clearly handle any group and they know the river like the back of their hand. Please take all the reviews into consideration and consider shortening the amount of stops on the river to corral the group; there's got to be another way that is also safe. The guides walked us through every step prior to departing and had a terrific sense of humor. We all blended together right away. This was a 'Family' float so lots of kids and splashing with groups having water battles. The water was low making navigation around rocks tricky but adding to the challenge of working together as a team in our raft. The staff has the movement of the rafters down to a science. Only small comment was how slow the bus went up hills back to camp packed w all of us happy rafters. Would love to do this again with a slightly higher level of difficult. Overall the place its really nice and the staff its very friendly. My only concern was not enough bathroom and shower rooms for so many people to the point you have to be wating online around 6 pm of 10 people to take a shower. I will suggest extra bathrooms closer to the camping site as well. During rafting the rapids were really nice and the staff very friendly however since it was a big group of about 100 people you have to stop once in a while to wait for the rest of the crowd. I think its a little too restricted and you always have to stay with the tour group at all times. read more

Whitewater Challengers is one of several rafting outfitters for the Lehigh River near Jim Thorpe, Pa. It provides everything from camping gear and grounds for those who want more than just a rubber raft ride for a day, to a day trip from New York City if you only have time for a short, but intense adventure . It works best for groups( families, friends, offices, and scouts) who like more outdoor experiences, and have a couple of days to camp, hike, raft, climb and eat in an organized, yet natural setting, but don't want the effort of a more solitary exercise away from services. The Lehigh is far from the wildest river in the East, and even on dam release dates only has Class 3 rapids in small stretches of water. As such, it is fairly tame and less risky than the more difficult rivers in West Virginia, the Cheat and the New, where unless you are a strong swimmer and can handle being thrown out of the raft and riding the currents feet first on your butt, you probably should not be on the craft. Still, a few hours on the river in relative safety is certainly worthwhile and exciting. The best part of the ride is when passing through the Lehigh River Gorge, where the water drops the most in the shortest distance. If you have the time, and your guide permits, you can get out there and take a short hike/climb up to the waterfalls. The worst of the day is the school bus ride to and from the launch/landing sites along the river. They are not comfortable, especially when coming back to camp or your car. If you find you like white water rafting consider an outfitter that will let you launch at the Gorge for maximum thrills in the shortest time, or check online for West Virginia companies that offer river excursions and camping in the vicinity of Blackwater Falls State Park, near the Rivers Cheat and New. I had never been whitewater rafting before and over the summer my boss organized a work field trip to this place. Ten of us piled into a rental van and drove to PA and sang along to the radio. We were already having fun. We got to the place on time and it was chaos. Just a lot of people wandering around and very hard to tell what was what. We get all checked in and they tell us there's a board to hang our keys on so we don't lose them on the raft. (We left most of our stuff in the car except our lunches). We go to the gift shop and the place to put the keys isn't guarded by anyone, it's not behind a counter...it is out in the open. So since we don't really want to risk losing our keys and having our stuff stolen we tie them to ourselves and are on our way. The guides were generally pretty funny (and mean in appropriate amounts as another review said) and useful. I didn't mind the shananigans until some of the stuff doused us with water as we're putting our lunches into airtight containers (not after, but AS we're doing this). The trip itself was fun tho. It was a beautiful day, we were with friends and we were outside doing something. Not much to complain about. I definitely wish they hadn't started the bucket fights so much. It's fine for the teenagers who all know each other to do it to themselves but why do I have to be involved? Ah well. Just make sure you have enough people to fill a whole raft and you'll be fine. Probably not super hard a river but it was definitely good for my first time out. Just the right amount of challenge and ease to make me feel better. read more

I really did not know what to expect with this outfitters since it was my first time white water rafting. However, my friend who has done it before had assured me that it was well organized. It was a pretty cool experience since I have never done this before. LOGISTICS ========= - a raft can fit a maximum of 7 people and minimum of 4 people according to our guides - plenty of kayak guides who are in front in the middle and rear to help rafts that are stuck on rocks and other mishaps - raft comes with paddles and two buckets (1 bucket for waterproofing food, 1 bucket to bail out water and splash other rafts) - a bus loads everyone in your group as well as other groups so expect 10 to 15 rafts with around 10 guides in total - be prepared to navigate towards the banks when a raft is behind in trouble - lunch around 2/3 down the Lehigh River which has some picnic areas - be prepared with swim gear like bathing suit and water shoes or old tennis shoes - dam releases tend to get your raft more umphh factor - rain or shine these folks will be guiding you down the river - driving time is around 1.5 hours from Philly suburbs EXPECTATIONS ============= - if you haven't been on this trip, then be prepared to be excited for a few thrills along the way - this is rated for class 1 to 3 for rapids so nothing which you can't handle - great way to bond with your group of friends to work as a team with paddling, navigating, and steering around protruding rocks - we paid around $63 for about 3-4 hours on the river including a lunch break Overall, I would recommend this to co-workers, friends, and family. It really teaches us that we can't do things alone especially in these situations. Everyone has to contribute and I found it both fun and good bonding experience. We had a great time at Whitewater challengers this past weekend in the Goldenrod group. Johnathan was amazing, super upbeat and fun to be around. Our sweep guide was really great too, but the other two seemed like they had a long day lol. I had done rafting before, but my other friends had not. I wish they went over a little more safety and how we should sit in the raft...they mentioned some things on the bus but afterwards everything felt really rushed! Despite that, we had a really great time....we even ended up with some extra lunches courtesy of the great Johnathan! Tip, if you are going for a weekend...I would NOT camp at the facility. They really hammer the 11pm quiet rule in the beginning, yet we had lots of super loud groups all night so it wasn't really well enforced. It was also super annoying trying to leave the campground because they had these traffic people everywhere trying to re-route you because of the extra traffic (non existent) of rafters driving in. I'm sure there are other campgrounds in the area that are quieter, and more secluded (and probably cheaper too!) We hope to come back next summer to try the lower lehigh! read more

Great experience! Logan was an awesome guide and adjusted the trip to make it extra exciting and wet by guiding our boat into the most challenging sections. Even though there were only two of us (father and son), they still gave us a private boat with just us and the guide. He also adjusted the timing so we didn't have to be stuck with a large group of younger paddlers all the time, though it was pretty fun watching the kids in the other rafts enjoy a day on the water. It was clear from watching them that the other guides were really good dealing with younger kids and keeping them entertained for 4 hours. One suggestion - if you are particular about food, I would recommend bringing your own lunch and asking the guide to keep it in their dry bag. Regarding Byran F's review - not sure what happened in his experience, but we were provided helmets and all the necessary equipment/gear, and they made sure we wore our helmets the entire time. I believe this location was bought out by and is managed by Adirondack River Outfitters, and so perhaps they do a better job with safety? read more

This is my first time going white water rafting EVER. My sister gifted me the trip as a birthday present and we have our trip scheduled for August 5th. While I still haven't gone rafting yet, I'm giving this company five stars because I had an IMMENSE amount of questions and concerns and Jonathan picked up and stayed on the phone with me for nearly 40 minutes answering all of my questions and giving me tips and information on what to expect when I'm in the water. He apologized for his voice sounding so monotoned because he explained that he lost his voice the other day and doesn't even know how it happened haha! Upon hearing him say that he's a river guide, my sister and I are calling back IMMEDIATELY to request to have him on our trip. I wanted to be thrown from my raft, but they did a good job of keeping the whole thing safe. In fact, the most dangerous part was driving back from the river on a 10 MPH dilapidated school bus from 1986. I think we broke down? I don't even think the bus knows if it broke down. It's so beyond stopping and going at this point and just wants to be crushed and left for dead in a Pennsylvania cave. There is a 'bro alert' for this company as it's close to Philly, NYC, etc. If you see a gaggle of bros showing off their pectorals, joking about how they don't need life-jackets, or laughing about how the fat guy in their group is going to sink the raft, then ask a person in a 'WHITEWATER CHALLENGERS' t-shirt to avoid joining them on a raft. I felt like the company was upselling me on the whole wet-suit, to be honest. $20 per wetsuit, which on a cold day, they make "mandatory," was not necessary. Went white water rafting with Whitewater Challengers in Jim Thorpe! We were lucky we scored being on a raft with some pretty cool people and made friends. The tour leaders were super chill, helpful and friendly. Rafting was a lot of fun and there was water fights between the rafts when they were stopped so it was super fun. Definitely would go again! read more

Awesome AWESOME time! REAL TALK! Even with their main organizer out with a back injury. And thousands (seemed like‍) of foreigners that didn't speak English‍. Staff had some hiccups, but instantly made arrangements to fix it. They kept everyone in the loop. Staffing was extremely kind, and helpful!!!! Trying to remember all the names of the workers who I can honestly say (Brandon, Becca, Trey, CHICKIE from dirty Jersey ) - made it a simply GREAT experience! Was disappointed that our picture didn't get taken, or at least we thought. Went to the store and didn't see our pictures in any of the color groups. So we left - and was showing everyone the picture of my dirty tire, because that was the only evidence that we had that I went White Water Rafting BUT THEN...
