They can be fussy and need attention and they always seem to get that extra care when we are out of town. Sometimes for a long weekend and sometimes for a long (10 day) vacation. We provide directions for their diet and when they need downtime (because sometimes it's simply puppy overload for them and they need quiet) and the staff caters to their needs. They get to socialize with other dogs big and small and are so well acclimated there that they are not afraid, not traumatized and happy to go (evidenced by pulling on their leashes to go in when entering the building). Because this is a business and dogs do have accidents, it goes with the territory there and the mess gets cleaned up. Unlike leaving our dogs with family/friends where if they mess (let's say on a carpet or floor, we feel bad). This past stay, our senior pug got sick and Scott (with our permission) took him to the vet (connected with the facility). We felt the fee was fair and similar to our own vet as we would have done the same. The point is, that with constant communication, Scott acted as our proxy and returned our boy back to us in a state of recovery not decline. After 2 days back home with us (continuing meds) he's back to his old self.

I was also struggling with knowing if I could really trust someone to not only come into my home, but more importantly, to care for my two precious pups. Kristin came to my home, when I was there, for an initial meet & greet with the pups. They loved her right away, and I was sold. She played with the pooches and was very interested in everything I had to tell her about them, in order to get to know their personalities. The first day of walking, she stayed an hour -- the note she left said that my little girl pup, Penny, was a little apprehensive at first. Kristin cared enough to stay and make sure the pooches were totally comfortable and could trust her. I've been with Dog Star for about 3 weeks now, and I love working with them. The notes Kristin leaves each day are fun to read when I get home from work. And my pooches don't tackle me as soon as I walk in the door -- I miss that, but I know that it's because they've had some great exercise already. They're content and happy. In Kristin's note last week, she said that Penny (my apprehensive one) even greeted her with a big "toothy smile" when she'd arrived that day. I know they love her already, and I love that my pooches have someone that cares about them as much as I do. Thanks Dog Star!!

Between the time I contacted them via their website and the time they called me back to set up an appointment to come over, less than 24 hours had passed. Marika, one of the owners, arranged to come by and meet the pups. She brought over Patrick, who would be our walker. They were both warm people and extremely friendly with the dogs. The dogs took to them immediately. Patrick started walking the dogs the day after our walker left. We expected him to take over for a few weeks while our walker was away. The weeks turned into months (our original walker never came back), and we couldn't be happier. Dog Star Walkers is not only extremely reliable, their prices are reasonable and they offer all kinds of services beyond dog walking. If you live on the north side, they should be your first call when looking for a walker.

Currently my dog is being trained as a service dog, and I was ecstatic that I was able to get him started on his first task in my first session! I feel like they took great care in evaluating my dog for themselves and taking my own experience into consideration. I have been able to use things I've already taught my dog to further his training and it's even made me feel more confident as a dog handler. I love that they're a local business, and that they build a real connection with your pet. My dog who's usually aloof with people enjoys their company and even listens to them when I'm around which NEVER happens. I feel like their training methods are fair, and I like that they explain why they make suggestions for me. They're always willing to answer any of my dumb questions about their recommendations, without being condescending or holier than thou. I've enjoyed working with them so much I've already decided to do sports training and maybe even a board and train. Their prices are affordable which is an uncommon thing with training in chicago. I had a hard time finding someone within my budget, but I don't feel like I receive discount training. I feel like I don't have to be rich to provide training for my dog. All dogs can benefit from training (and all humans since it's usually us who has to make the biggest changes) and I'm so happy I found trainers I trust and can afford right in chicago. They are unethical (lied about the pup and breeder they were supposed to have been in contact with) and incredibly disorganized. They also tried to tell me that puppy raising board and train was equivalent to weekly in-house trainings. Nothing made any sense. I lost $3000 due to their "No refund policy" (they never even met the dog they were supposed to train), but I decided to cut my losses and run instead of staying with them and progressing with whatever program they were going to do. Please learn from my mistakes.
