This Goodwill has been in Davis Square for a very long time! I have been going for at least 24 years. It had has been remodeled. I remember it was a dark and dreary place years ago. Not anymore! The store is organized by color and the article of clothing. Makes shopping easy if you have a specific thing youa re looking for (ex. jean skirt) or by color but I find it better to organize by size. There were a few interesting finds on the floor such as Ugg boots, Hunter boots, name brand clothing. Stocked stoor! Clean. Lots of employees working to keep up with the commotion. Downstairs has home goods, toys, etc... I think maybe they art shouldn't be near the toys (see my photo.) But that's just my opinion. I can share I thought it was the best Good will that I have been to for: 1. displaying books 2. wall art (a lot of self painted canvases) I left with a cute little picture of a ghost on a swing. It was $7.99 which I did think was a little high but I just liked it so much I couldn't resist. read more

I haven't bought anything from this location, but only donated. After my experiences here, I want to do neither. Like other reviewers, the staff is rude and unprofessional. They'll yell at you if you do not place donations exactly the way they want and do exactly what they want you to do. I have to lug an air conditioner for a friend and was about to drop it off in the store. I had to slightly tilt it because I found the friend left an identifying sticker on the AC and wanted to take it off. One staffer yelled at me because I did not have the AC in a position they wanted. I just said that I was taking off that sticker but still got grief. Instead of continuing to argue, I just walked away. I'm not encouraging you to stop shopping or donating at Goodwill. Just don't do it at this particular location. If you have to donate around the Davis Square area, I'm sure there are more deserving spots. Or just go to another Goodwill location. read more

I feel weird about this place. They're very inconsistent with their prices. I had picked up a waffle texture like shirt to purchase - it was on the men's sweater/long sleeve shirt rack downstairs; I believe that the sign said 5.79 for the shirts/sweaters on the rack or something within that ballpark. Upon ringing me up/purchasing - the waffle like long sleeve shirt came up as $12.99 as a "coat" - literally said coat on the cash register. When I questioned it, the woman working the cashier did not answer but someone jumped it and was like "you have to look at the price on the tag". Weird whatever but like be consistent. There was a rack upstairs with winter coats that said "price ask marked". If you're going to treat other clothing items like that - either do the same thing and have a separate rack or put a sign near the 5.79 sign that mentions that price doesn't apply to all items. And like I said. This is literally a long sleeve shirt - like an undershirt. Not a sweater, not a jacket. They do weird things at this goodwill location with prices. read more

It's a Goodwill, which means you walk in with low expectations and somehow they still manage to surprise you. There's a ton of stuff. Clothes from every era, furniture that looks like it's been through a custody battle, and shelves packed with random objects that make you wonder who owned them and what went wrong. Variety? Absolutely. Purpose? Debatable. This location does seem a little too proud of some of its merchandise. A few price tags had me doing a double take, like... relax. This is still donated stuff. We're not at Sotheby's. It's an indoor yard sale with fluorescent lighting -- let's keep the pricing humble. Organization is loose at best. Racks are packed, shelves are chaotic, and finding anything specific feels less like shopping and more like rummaging through someone's basement while they're watching you. But honestly, that's kind of the deal. If it were tidy, it wouldn't feel authentic. It'd just feel wrong. You might find something great. You might leave with nothing but dust on your hands and questions about humanity. Either way, three stars feels fair. read more

Went into donate some clothes and one of the staff members were particularly rude to us and had such an attitude. She was unwilling to apologize and was weirdly smug about her rude comments. I love donating to Goodwill but I don't think we will choose this location in the future. Edit: seeing other reviews I'm not surprised that more people are catching on to the rude staff here. Not the best thrift store I've been to in terms of item quality, but I still wanted to leave a review because the store itself is so clean and well-organized. The staff were polite, friendly, and had impeccable manners--which made the experience really pleasant. Nice finds, friendly staff, clothes are in decent condition. Men's selection downstairs is not as extensive as women's upstairs. Hint: mens and womens coats/jackets are on the back left wall and are mixed. So browse patiently. I think if you can go into a store and walk out with one exciting item, that's key to a great thrift experience. read more

The main problem I have with this place is that the staff are rude. Every time I go in there I regret it. I've been scolded for coming in too early (I thought they opened at 9, so I went in at 10 minutes to 10 when the door was propped wide open) and for looking on a rack that was "not for shopping" (then why is it out there on the floor where everyone is shopping?). The last time I went in the rude woman at the register with the dark hair and glasses (same one who scolded me the first time) was annoyed and short with me because I put the item I wanted to buy on the counter on the left instead of on the right side of the register. Clearly some of the staff need customer service and anger management training. Also, there are no dressing rooms, so you can't try anything on (all sales are final). I have bought a few things there, but a good shopping experience is more important to me than getting used stuff cheaply. I have been to other Goodwill stores and to Salvation Army stores and found those staff people to be perfectly pleasant and polite. read more

Pretty clean Goodwill with 2 floors of merchandise. I like that they have the 50% off of certain color tags on different days. They seem to have a good selection of clothes, but I wasn't there to shop for clothes. I looked at the home goods and found a few items of interest. However the cashier seemed less than eager to help me out. He wasn't completely rude just not overly friendly. He initially walked away when I approach the register. Maybe he had some thing to do but he didn't even acknowledge that I had shown up. read more

Great finds here! I have found me great clothing for the family, home utensils, even beddings at good prices. You'll need to take a little bit of time to wade through the aisles, shelves, and hangers, but don't be discouraged. I am a fiber artist, always looking for 100% wool clothing to cut into strips, dye over color, to make durable hooked rugs. Goodwill prices are great, and I am into recycling so it's good feeling to give wool items a second life. I also like knowing that they provide jobs to people with disabilities. I also appreciate being able to drop off our unwanted stuff to be recycled. And occasionally I find items to buy at very low prices. read more

Nice thrift store with helpful staff, & plenty of items to look through. The basement portion is a bit muggy, could be a bit nicer looking. Used books are somewhat more expensive than they are at other thrift stores I have visited. Two paperback books came to around $5, which seems a little pricey for used paperbacks, in my opinion. Lots of books. Insane stacks of books (Varies) - All men's clothes, color coordinated to showcase the orange ($1.50-$8)* For all others, approach cautiously and when in doubt, poke with a stick. Not crazy about sequestering the penile possessive to the basement with kids' wear, bent spoons and dragons, but c'est la vie. *Costuming, absolutely. As my main man Marshall Field once said, "Goodwill is the only asset that competition cannot undersell or destroy." This particular Goodwill seems to be doing just fine, even though there's a Buffalo Exchange right down the street. Maybe it's because the prices are so cheap, and maybe it's because Melinda, the owner, is a sweetheart. She keeps her employees so happy, they'll hum while checking you out (at the cash register, silly.) So, why the 4 stars? There are certain things on sale in this store that aren't worth your time: Most shirts. Someone else has probably picked out the best by the time you make your way through the reds in the ROYGBIV layout) Electronics. They never seem to work and even though there's a return policy, you don't want to have to keep bringing back electronics for them. I was also surprised to find that if you are looking for something particular, you will have to constantly stop in to search for it. i.e. You cannot have Goodwill contact when something comes in (like a record player, cough) so that you can scurry over and nab it before someone else gets their grubby hands on it. Overall, the deals I've found here astound me. Goodwill for all! read more

Every time I am in or even near Davis Square I come here to rummage. I agree, the downstairs is where it is at. I have found some fantastic deals there there from books, DISHES, and glassware. My main trophy is a 16 inch cast iron skillet which I scored in a canvas bin for $8.00. It takes 2 arms to hold it as it is so heavy. It still hangs in my kitchen today. I must mention that I have witnessed the manager of this store totally degradate the employees here by yelling at them and ordering them about in front of the customers. Not cool! read more

A year ago in 2023 I went to the Goodwill store in Davis Square to donate some items. I asked the person at the front counter to help me because I have a disability and it was very difficult for me to carry them in and she said no we don't do that. I got very frustrated and asked her why she was refusing to help me when she was literally just standing there breaking down a box. She ignored me. I was very upset and told her so. I then put up a review that was not very positive. Yesterday I went in again and unknowingly, asked the same exact person if they had DVDs. She said yes, but did not tell me where they were. I waited and then asked where are they? She ignored me. I asked her if she was going to tell me where they were and she walked away to help another client. I followed her and asked her why she was ignoring me. She continued to ignore me and I told her I was going to talk to the general manager. When I spoke to the general manager on the phone an hour later, I asked if he had heard the story. He said he did and said that I was aggressive towards her. I asked him how and he said that we would need to talk about it in person. He then went on to say that he had wanted to talk to me for a while because I had been continually aggressive towards her. I asked the general manager if there was any way this conversation was going to go that he would listen to what I was saying or would he only take her side. When he said that he believes I was aggressive towards her, I hung up. I went online and after getting very nervous that he said he was looking for me, I took off my review out of fear. (I just went back on and saw that I had not deleted them and I'm glad that the deletion did not go through.) But today, I decided that I was not in the wrong and I need to stand up for what is right. I had not seen her in over a year and at that time I was standing up for people with disabilities when she refused to help me. I am in no way an aggressive person. So come to find out that she is actually a manager of the store. I really like the mission of Goodwill, but when their managers do not follow the mission then I lose all respect for the entire agency. I will never ever go back to Goodwill in Davis Square. I'm writing this review as a resident of Somerville, but I am mentioning now that I am a commissioner on the Somerville commission for people with disabilities. I hope others hear me about their lack of understanding and compassion to people with disabilities. I am very disappointed in them. read more

Very large place, but the signage for the pricing is usually missing. Belts are $3.99, scarves $2.99. I got a Royal Albert teacup saucer for $0.70. Women's wear is all on the main floor, and you travel downstairs for everything else. Best deal I had was finding so many brands there! Lots of Talbot, Anne Taylor. I got a pair of 7 For All Mankind pants for $6! If I came a day earlier and it was on the floor, it was red tagged, so it woulda been $3! Keep an eye on their calendar flyer to find out what tags are discounted further. What is sad about such a large Goodwill is their lack of a single fitting room. I just try stuff on in front of the various mirrors provided. read more

Today I bought a 1920's Wedgewood porcelain plate for $2.99, I spotted this in the bric-a-brac end of isle shelf and could tell it was old, looked on the underside, saw the Wedgewood insignia, whipped out my phone, googled it and saw the same plate for sale on Etsy for $30, how exciting! I now have an antique plate, using it to store my fancy tomatoes on in the pantry :-) :-) For every cool item I buy in here, I pass up three, our apartment will be reaching nik-nak saturation point soon! read more

I usually only donate rather than shop. Just because I used the HAVE to shop at thrift shops (poor) so it brings back bad memories. However, this is a great place to donate to! They make it super0easy. Not like some other places, like Boomerangs. You just put your stuff in a bin, fill out your donation sheet, and you're done and can now proceed to Spike's to get a hot dog! :-) I did meet one lady who was really nicely dressed and said she usually shopped here though. This is a ok but expensive store with some very serious flaws. I can handle their high prices, that are laughable when it comes to selling Target items but otherwise fine, however, when it comes to their "boutique" items I am frankly disgusted. Their employees hustle fake Coach/Dooney/Channel at YUGE prices. I have seen them frequently selling china town fakes for $50 to people who don't know better. Do not listen to a word their dishonest cashiers say. Sigh Speaking of cashiers, while friendly they frankly don't know how to check people out. The line can be 10 people long and they still make irrelevant small talk. Also, if you come to the register with a nice item(the store does have some nice things), don't be surprised if they raise the price on you after waiting 20 minutes to check out(it's happened to me a few times). I've been trying to walk to work to get some exercise and lose a few lbs (I know, I know I don't really need it) so I popped into the goodwill and purchased a portable CD/radio player and headphones to make my walk more enjoyable. Besides the equipment I needed they also had a plethora of CDs for me to choose from. I picked up: Alanis Morissette (Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie) 4 Non Blonds (Bigger, Better, Faster, More) U2 (Zooropa) Matchbox 20 (Yourself or Someone Like You) Creed (Human Clay) There was thousands more but I can only carry so many. Trixy and I had ridden our bikes from her flat in Cambridge down Elm Street into Somerville. Her child-size neon pink Pacific Wanderer mountain bike was something of a conversation piece in the neighborhood. Today, its red plastic handlebar streamers and skull decals clashed nicely with her welders goggles, cammo pattern capri pants, and an olive drab Nutcase helmet. We stopped at the Goodwill store in Davis Square to look in the window. The display here is always pretty good, and whoever does it has a real appreciation for details. Once I saw a roll top desk decorated with a framed photo of William Howard Taft and a stuffed green parrot perched atop an antique inkwell. If you looked close, you could see a 1912 penny sitting in the little depression of the ink reservoir. Trixy decided to go in, flinging her bike carelessly against a tree on the sidewalk. I locked mine up, because, you know, this is Somerville. The street level of Goodwill is jam packed with women's clothing, which for some reason someone has taken the trouble to sort by color, but the real action is downstairs. Broken vacuum cleaners, dented toasters and a sad display of hundreds of drinking glasses bearing college logos share space with seedy sofa chairs and cast off exercise equipment. I found Trixy boldly rummaging through merchandise in a room behind a doorway marked "authorized personnel only". She'd fished out a pair of embroidered handkerchiefs from the bins. This room was obviously where workers sorted and priced donated items before placing them on shelves, so I reminded her of the sign, but she shrugged it off, claiming that "the %@*&! sign is just to keep tourists out". There was a brief but bitter argument upstairs at the checkout register during which she blamed the store for not putting price tags on things and eventually got the clerk to sell her the two handkerchiefs for 50 cents each. I thought the unpleasantness might end there, but it didn't. Outside the store, about ten or fifteen feet away, a rangy-looking teenager in baggy pants and a white sleeveless T shirt was stealing Trixy's bike. "STOP, YOU MOTHER@%#!*" she screamed, and took off running out the door. Suddenly alerted, the kid wildly pedaled away on the bike, heading straight down the middle of Elm Street towards Davis Square. Right behind him, Trixy, her small but sturdy legs a blur, was gaining speed by the second. For a moment it looked like she was out for a mid day jog and just happened to be running alongside a guy on a bike. Then, right near Anna's Taqueria, I saw her uncoil herself and jump up to execute what I consider to be a pretty spectacular NFL-style tackle. Down they went, bike and all. The kid of course, ran away, but Trixy's bike was saved from who knows what kind of potential Somervillian degradation. read more

I love thrift store but I was a little scared of this one. Since I live "up north" in MA but right on the NH border, prices in my area are cheaper than most in the Boston area. So I figured that, yeah it's a Goodwill but I'm still going to pay more. Not so, not so (and yay for that!). I had actually just been to a Goodwill in Londonderry NH about a month prior. The selection of "name" brands at this location topped what I found at the other. That doesn't mean I didn't find Anne Klein in NH, just not as many names overall. Scarves at $3, brand new never worn unopened package of Gold Toe socks for .50 cents per sock (75% of the tag on the package). The store was quite crowded but I expect that. Somewhat organized but I have no patience for digging. I am more of a grazer when shopping in stores like this. All that means is if there was a stupendous purse for sale at the bottom of those huge bins, I wouldn't ever know it. Other reviewers are correct, look over everything carefully. I did find several stained pieces and things with holes/tears. read more

I didn't get to spend long enough in here before closing (there's another FLOOR?!) but I was very pleasantly surprised. The color-sorting is excellent, allowing me to skip whole swaths of store. (Yellow? Buh-bye.) This is exciting. Largely because the space is ENORMOUS. I found a grey silk Dana Buchman suit at regular ($6.50 blazer/$4.49 skirt, I think) price, not boutique (um, I guess they haven't heard of Dana Buchman?). Score. Also grabbed a couple of other cute tops right before checking out. Did not have time for fitting rooms so I can't comment on those. The general quality of the merchandise is as expected-- these are donations, after all, not consignment-- but this location seems a step above the Central Square one; not quite as stinky. One thing I found sort of annoying is that the staff uses the space between the racks for storing their huge sorting bins. They're so big, you can't get through at all. I don't know if it's cool to shove them out of your way, but that's what you've gotta do if you want to see what you want to see. [Edited to add that the manager contacted me and said this only happens at closing time. Agreed, I was there just before closing... got it. Nice when stores care what their customers think!] I no longer need plus sizes, but was thrilled that they actually do separate out and have a significant offering for that. I see why people love this place because it's full of good quality clothing, books, kick knacks, etc. but I just didn't really see anything that caught my eye (except for a gray v-neck Comcast sweater. I was looking for an army style jacket that I could up-cycle and recreate, but didn't find anything remotely similar. Other notes: -Packed with folks that had their arms full of goodies. - Very well kept store. -Street parking. -2 floors- women's and shoes are ground level. Men's, kids, books, home goods are in the basement. - In my opinion the best Goodwill's are in San Francisco, California. read more

I'm relatively new to the Boston area, but I have been shopping at second-hand and thrift stores all my life. I've found some of the other resale shops in town to be hit-or-miss with either their pricing or selection or both. However, I've had great luck at this Goodwill Store. THE GOOD: Vintage genuine "Harris Tweed" jacket in my size (36 R) for $7.99, 100 % silk Prada shirt for $4.99, and misc. vintage and not-so-vintage pieces for a great price. THE BAD: Somewhat overwhelming. You've got to have an idea of what you want and / or a good eye because with two floors of men's and women's clothing, furniture, and housewares, you've got your work cut out for you. Overall, this has been the best Goodwill Store that I've been to in the Boston area and would highly recommend checking it out. Good Luck! read more

Things I have gotten at this Goodwill store: - a fancy black cardigan/sweater from Banana Republic - an Ann Taylor sweater set fancy enough to wear to a wedding - my denim dress that everyone always loves - multiple shirts that I wear to work on a regular basis None of these have cost more than $10. Most cost significantly less. Yes, it's true. I shop at Goodwill. But I bet if you come to this store, you will too. I mean, it's like the surrounding neighborhood is full of people who buy designer clothes, wear them once, decide they're tired of them, and donate them. Well, not like DESIGNER designer... you're not gonna find Fendi here... but clothes from nicer stores, in good condition. Most Goodwill stores carry clothes that have been washed to the point of being threadbare, but when I go to this one I feel like I've stepped into an outlet mall (with awful fluorescent lighting and the clothes organized by color). I find it odd that some people would complain about subpar service and a strict return policy. It's Goodwill, people. This location offers all of the anthropological thrills of visiting any Goodwill store. Peruse the odd sets of candleholders and vases and envision a home that would hold such knickknacks! Sift through the DVD collection and laugh at the fact that someone once paid $19.99 for these! Note that there is a wedding dress hanging on one of the racks, out with the rest of the dresses for $15! Yes, this store has all that, plus a selection so good I'd make a point of stopping here on a trip back to Boston. read more

This Goodwill is part of my weekend Davis Square adventures. So much stuff comes in through this area that you can always find something new here. I've snagged a solid wicker chair, a table, some awesome vintage silverware, numerous Halloween costumes, and classic picture frames. People here are really nice and the store is generally easy to navigate, as long as you're ok with dodging kids on the stairs. Pro tip: don't give up on something just because it doesn't have a price tag. The people who work here are really reasonable and will make you a deal that doesn't feel like a ripoff. read more

How have I never been to this store? I love thrift shopping, but generally shy away from Goodwill stores. In my experience they are not very clean and they have a lingering odor. I found this one to be totally different. The selection of clothing is amazing. I purchased 3 pairs of pants for $6 each: jcrew, Talbots, and Burberry. Yes Burberry pants for only $6! I found the "high end mall clothes" such as French Connection, Jcrew, Abercrombie, etc to be the rule rather than the exception. I will tell you , if you see something that you like... Or think you might like, grab it immediately. If you turn your back, someone else will get the deal. read more

I think of this place as the "Baby Bear" of Boston Goodwills. It's juuuuuuuuuuuust right... Organized (by color) and not overwhelming. Really cool staff. Yeah, they probably hate their jobs with the crazy Type-A bargain-hunters rollin' on thru every minute of the day, but at least they don't take it out on you. And I guess I'd say the Central Square Goodwill is "Papa Bear." It was a bit bland, with too small of a selection. And what they did have was beyond lackluster. Including a disorganized book section without any titles that tugged at your curiosity. And Papa Bear must not have got laid last night, because man was he spittin' up attitude left and right. Papa Bear needs to work on his game! And, that would leave Dudley's Goodwill to be "Mama Bear." Just looking at her incites a monstrous headache! I mean... I love you, Mom! But I ain't the type of girl to spend hours sifting thru endless racks of STD-ridden clothes. And I'm pretty sure I walked out with a family of fleas hitching a ride on my clothes. I found a Juicy Couture dress, a Michael Kors blouse, cashmere sweaters, a new with tags Ann Taylor silk blouse ($8) and a pair of puma sneakers at this thrift store. The problem: most of the items listed had something wrong with them so I didn't buy. Double checking for issues (light pit stains, tiny holes, etc.) is a big must at this store. They seem to have a standard for what goes out on the floor, but it's not as high as the suburban thrift stores. The puma shoes I found looked brand new. The cost: $10. I had been trying to score Puma shoes for several months before I found these bad boys. The store is two floors jammed packed with rows and rows of mostly clothing. Organized by color not size... First floor is for women's clothing, shoes (CHECK THEM OUT!), and accessories. I haven't had much luck with the purses, but there's a big bin full of them to dig through. The basement has men's, kid's, women's jackets, and house stuff. Though not entirely organized, this store is the perfect size and well worth the time searching through the racks. I take the commuter rail from Porter Square home, and I go out of my way to Davis Square to stop by after work (more often in the summer). It's a nice area just to walk around and FYI, the Buffalo Exchange is a couple stores away from this Goodwill. The prices are moderate for thrifting.
