Home improvement companies are doing big business in the DFW metroplex right now. Unable to reach them via their website or via telephone I decided to go into the store. Once in the store, I was able to receive service. After scheduling an appointment we received a quote to replace the tile in our master bath. We were ready to move forward until we read the contract. The terms of the Good Guys Flooring contract were unreasonable. Per the contract, an upfront payment of 75% is required. Cancellation would result in the loss of up to 50% of the deposit. We requested that a start date and date of completion be added to the contract before we would sign. Without a date, the company could delay our project indefinitely and keep our money after we got tired of waiting. The store representative stated that he needed to speak to the manager regarding our concerns. We never heard from him again. Eventually, the DocuSign contract was canceled. I guess there is such a thing as having more business than you can handle. read more

I was torn as to awarding 2 or 3 stars but settled on 3 because there were some positives. Buckle up, and I'll tell you why. We were in the market for a flooring company to remove our old carpet in two rooms and install hardwood flooring. After two estimates with two companies, we settled on The Good Guys based on many positive reviews, a reasonable quote, timing of the project, and our very positive interaction with Steve, the salesman. We were so excited to finally be getting our house updated! We scheduled our demo and install for a Friday in May 2020 and were told it would be a 2-day project. Cool! Here's where things went south. Day 1 (Friday): Two-man crew arrived on time and was quick to get started on pulling up the carpet. Steve, the salesman, and a husband/wife team arrived to get going on the project and left shortly thereafter. The crew worked all day Friday and left around 6pm after a full day of work with the promise to return Saturday. Day 2 (Saturday): Same two-man crew arrived close enough to the morning scheduled time, slightly late but not too bad. Worked all day and as 8:00pm neared they were still clearly working hard but also still had a TON of work left to do. Slightly disappointing because we were told this was a 2-day job and it clearly wasn't. The two guys left and said they would come back on Sunday at 9:00am to finish. Day 3 (Sunday): 9:00am... no sign/no call. 10:00am.... no sign/no call. Finally, around 10:30am I call our salesman and left a VM. I also message Beth, the manager, on a Yelp asking for any update as to arrival or anything. She was very responsive and had someone call me. He tells me the guys overslept and would be at our house in about 30 minutes and would be finished quickly as there was only "clean-up" left to do. Well, that must be what the crew told him because we looked in the rooms and the flooring was only half-installed in one, there was no trim on the wall, definitely a clean up was in order, AND our torn up carpet/pad was still on our front yard (sorry, neighbors).. 12:20pm.... the crew shows up - 3 hours after the original arrival time and nearly 2 hours after the second arrival time. The crew left around 5 or 6 and still hadn't installed transitions, the trim on the walls was sloppily installed (gapping from the wall, broken pieces put on the wall, etc.), planks were misaligned and the new floors had tons of adhesive on them. I'll wrap this up. Day 4-6 all blur together now, were beyond frustrating and filled with much of the same from days 2-3: late arrivals, no shows, incomplete work, and lazy cleanup. The crew had started a new job so we were put on the back burner to just get our small job finished. I say our job is a small job because we were told that they were working on a 22 bedroom house in Highland Park and he had to go get supplies for that. The one thing that I will commend is that Steve was responsive and easy to get ahold of and also went above and beyond to make our trim look nice for us in the end. We were happy with our interactions with Steve. On Day 6: they finally installed the transitions that had to be reordered because they broke the originals. Granted, they were over 2 hours late - again. The install manager, Robert, cleaned the floors and they appeared clean to us. Sigh of relief - this just might be all resolved! Day 6 evening: excited to see the floors, I popped in to admire our (finally finished) rooms! My bubble was burst when there was still tons of small spots of adhesive ALL over the floors. Beyond frustrated with this process, we did not want to have to call the company again because, frankly, we were over having this crew working in our house. Over the course of 2-3 hours, we scrubbed (SCRUBBED) the floors with Magic Erasers - thanks, Google - to try to remove as much adhesive as we could before it really settled. In the end, we went through 6 Magic Erasers, lots of tears shed, and a lot of elbow grease and have floors that were are just happy to be finished working on. Extras: adhesive was tracked onto our existing bamboo floors and the bathroom tile which we are still working to remove, the crew was very rough with our pocket doors of the bathroom and they had to be fixed. The Good Guys offered to fix them, which we appreciated since they were fine before this project. They are back at 90% and, again, we were just exhausted from this project and decided to stop fighting with the crew and just accept the 90% restoration of the door movement. We will tackle that project ourselves another day. read more

We redid the floors in a few rooms of our house and checked out about 5 different flooring shops. Good guys were excellent and prompt from the start. Initial consultation was great as well as the installation. They were able to meet us at the pricing we needed for our budget and to be competitive against the other flooring shops. All the staff from first call to installation were friendly and wonderful to deal with. Install was very prompt within about a week and a half since some flooring had to be ordered from out of state. Very good flooring company and general contractor related work for entire house remodeling. We used them twice in quick succession - once for remodeling of floors and bathrooms, and next for changing floors on the second floor of our home. The team was professional, detailed work and they tried to fix a problem when they noticed small issues with a 1994 home like ours. This is unlike other remodeling companies who try to extract more money when they notice issue during remodeling. Our PM Garrett was very thorough with us and the sales manager Tommy personally looked into every cosmetic details to ensure our satisfaction. They also stand behind their warranty as we had a small water accident after the first remodel and they came back to fix the impact of that. I will highly recommend this company to anyone in DFW area read more

Beware. I wont ever work with or recommend The Good Guys. We contracted with them on 2 small projects - a stone fireplace and a bathroom tile and shower upgrade. They provided an 8k quote with an itemized labor and materials list but didn't tell us glass was not included. So after everything else was complete, they presented us with another 2k bill. We contacted a manager who accused us of trying to get the glass for free. I wish the inflated costs were offset by outstanding workmanship but 4 months later, a plumber told us their shoddy work has left a significant leak we will have to engage another contractor to fix since The Good Guys didn't return our call requesting they fix their mistake. read more

Seemed knowledgeable, but also tried to veer me away from my preferred tile choice which was more expensive (this is how I perceived it). They never followed up or sent a quote as they said they would (maybe, this was because it was a "small job" for a 100 sq feet). While the staff was very nice (Beth was great to work with) and the showroom was aesthetically pleasing, the installation pricing was absurd. I am building with a custom builder. The first time i went in after making my appointment they had no idea what my budget was. The only thing i managed to pick was a light grey carpet. I refused to go back to do my tile so i kept the carpet. However after looking online i chose a dark charcoal color which was confirmed with good guy. Never once did anyone tell me that the company did not offer a 30 day return, nor did they confirm that the carpet i was picking was actually blue instead of the grey that it looks like online. I should have gone in to look, but a heads up would have been nice. Now i have blue carpet and i cant do much unless i want to pay another 4k on top of the 4k i paid for blue carpet. Also, don't use dixie homes- online swatches don't represent actual color! Updating my review to 4 stars because they fought with dixie home to get my carpet replaced. I only have to pay installation fees now. Thank you!!! read more

Terrible customer service. We had MANY issues during our floor and countertop installation, including them flooding our kitchen and never properly repairing the damage. True to their name, I had a great experience with The Good Guys. Just completed a polish and refinish of part of our house and wood floor install in another part. Definitely satisfied with the workmanship. Two things to call out in particular: first, we are from out of town and needed extra help as we were not around for parts of the work. The rep (Cory) was very helpful and accommodating. Second, they were very clear and honest with their billing. They had numerous color options that we could choose from and the work was top-notch. We could not be more pleased with our new floor. Rodney and his crew did an outstanding job from start to finish. We had 1700 sf of carpet, tile and hardwood replaced on our lower level. GGF knocked out the job in five days and replaced the floor boards as well. Awesome end result. It was our first experience with replacing a floor. The only thing we would have done differently is stayed somewhere else because even though we only had 150 sf of tile removed it generated a crazy amount of dirt & dust. Built a new house and this contractor based company was used for the tile work. They sent three contractors out to "try" and correct all the poor workmanship from the initial install. Even came out and inspected the initial tile work and agreed is was subpar work. After three attempts to correct the work I was told, "I'm not sending anyone out and we can quote you a price". Getting service was the worst night mare you can imagine. Do not even consider using the sub-contractor company for anything. I won't allow them on my property again. I hired this company to get my floor leveled and hardwood replaced. i made an emphasis multiple times to the sales manager if this is something you guys do (leveling part). and he said of course and saw the place and said we can get this leveled. they replace the floor and did not even try to level the place. after the installer was done the floor still looks bad and the installer just shrugged and the sales manager did not show up to check the floor once it was completed. i talked to the sales manager and told him my issue and he came and looked at it. he saw the leveling did not change and said he couldn't do anything about this (which is something this company said a lot) and said this was within floor regulations which i have not idea what that meant the floor still looked bad. i called the company and told them the issue and they sent another manager to look at it and he said they could do it but they would charge me a different job to re pull the floor and add more leveling. i was mad because this is something they should have done in the first place. i reluctantly agreed and he said that he would personally be here for the install to make sure its fine. we agreed to have 2 sections of the floor leveled because they said the rest of the floor cant be leveled i said fine. when next install day came the manager did not come and some new guy showed up, so he did not know what was agreed upon before. i tell him what i wanted he said sure and told the installer and then the manager left. i come to see the place after the installer was done adn while one sectioned was finally leveled off ( so it could be done) the other section was only partially leveled. i told this to the installer and he said the manager didn't tell him to do that and he even thought it was weird. at this point i'm annoyed. i text the manager that was there, no response. i reach out to the first manger he says he will come out to see it on Tuesday. Tuesday comes and he's s no show. i text him and he replies 2 hours later saying someone else came. i told him no one called or text, nor voicemail. and the kept just saying that someone else showed up. i knew this was not true because every time someone came they would call or text. finally the next week the sales guy manager comes to see the place. i let him in the place and without giving me a chance to explain the issue of just the one section i wanted fix from the original agreement, he walks around the place saying oh we can't do this, this will cost thousands of dollars. this is impossible. i tell him this was what was agreed with when i first hired you guys and he straight up calls me a liar. we end up in a shouting match and he curses me out and then just walks out of my place without a solution. very unprofessional company would not recommend it to anyone. however if you guys do decide to use them make sure you record your agreement for work to be done or they will do whatever they want and tell you that nothing else can be done. read more

We did not go with this company to do the work in the end, after getting quotes from a couple different places. But the communication and customer service was great, and that's important to me. Kelli came out to give an estimate, provided the quote quickly and was very responsive and communicative. After having our floors damaged due to water, we have had lots of crews in and out the last few weeks to fix AC, water mitigation, quotes etc. So far, good guys have been the best as far as customer service! read more

I have never heard that logic before. When I informed them about the bad job done, owner became quite offended and said that since my builder hasn't paid him yet, I can not complain about the floors. I didn't understand the logic though. Did they do the bad job purposefully expecting no payment? That's interesting. read more

The install was very good (bamboo flooring), but the ordering process was extremely painful: first they lost the shipment and I was camping out with all my furniture in the middle of the floor for a solid month, then when it finally arrived it was not the same as the other half of the house that I had done. By that time I was so worn down that I accepted it tho it was a different shade and did not have the same markings. Now I growl to myself every time I look at it after two years.
