The leadership program includes wilderness adventures of hiking and canoeing, takes them on college visits, lets them experience how volunteer service feels and gives them to skills to get to a job at the end of the 4 year program. While the kids think they are just having fun, the real goal is to give them the skills and desire to further their education...college or vocational...and break the cycle of poverty. It also is a wonderful work experience for young adults. Teaching them responsibility, exposing them to diversity and hopefully influencing their attitudes about the potential of all children if they are just given the opportunities and skills needed to succeed. If you are thinking of sending your kids to camp, SFC is a nurturing environment that will challenge them. They'll walk through the woods and sing songs around campfires. We feel like totally unrespected and been discriminated for the entire class. However, the seating is kind of weird because you're all lined up where the location should have the tables in a square around the Chef so that you can see what the chef is doing and mimic with the chef is doing instead of getting up and sitting down getting up and sitting down. So almost like a large island style shape in a square around the Chef presentation table. Hope this makes sense but there is a lot of getting up and sitting down. For the cost, you really do not get a lot of food so I would highly recommend not planning on this being your dinner I was disappointed and did not mention that we would be sitting with someone else and so if you are a germ phobic , this is definitely not for you. We made pasta and everyone at our table contributed to making the pasta with their hands, and it really made me feel uncomfortable. They provide everything for the recipes they do not offer any drinks minus water. Everything else is BYOB. This is a great experience. I recommend it just a heads up on what to expect.
