We love Montview!! This is our third year at MCPK, and we couldn't be happier. The teachers are…read moreamazing. They do a beautiful job meeting each child where they're at, and tailoring the preschool experience to each student's needs and interests. Every time I am there, I see classrooms full of joy, imagination and creativity. It really is a magical place! Our family has also really enjoyed the co-op model, where parents are an active part of the school community. We have built strong relationships with other families and school staff in a way that just doesn't happen at other schools.

One of the very few schools that not only understands what it takes to create a successful and…read morepositive early childhood education experience, but demonstrates it in everything that they do here. My 4 year old is THRIVING here. He WANTS to go to school, even on days that he doesn't have school. (This was not the case last year at a different preschool.) As an educator, experienced in early childhood and elementary schools, I have been impressed with this school from the moment I first read about their philosophy on their website, to touring the school and seeing it in-person, to now having my child go to this school and seeing the positive impact that it is making on him and nurturing his love for learning and play. Not only have I been an educator for over 12 years, but I also wrote my Master's degree thesis on the importance of play. For those that want to learn more about why play is so important for children, check out the books: Einstein Never Used Flash Cards and Last Child in the Woods. To then have a child 4 years after writing my thesis and 4 years after that, find a school that actually understands, embraces, and models this essential part of childhood is so gratifying. My son especially loves when it is our "helping day" in the classroom and I love it too. I get to be a part of his learning, curiosity, and observe how he interacts with others and the world around him... this is so important to his growth and development in knowing how to best support and guide my child at home. "Children need the freedom and time to play. Play is not a luxury. Play is a necessity." ~Kay Redfield Jamison

Blessed Sacrament Catholic School is a wonderful community of students, educators and involved parents who care about their children beyond book knowledge. They can get academics anywhere, but here at Blessed Sacrament, you child will learn about their dignity as a human being, their uniqueness They will learn to make choices that will carry them into their future, choices about how to stand up for themselves, and how to treat others with respect. Catholic schools are known for their excellence in academics. This is why so many non-Catholics send their children to Catholic schools, but at Blessed Sacrament, you will receive this and more. Your child will be known by all staff by name, and will not be a number. Your child will be included in mentoring opportunities, either as a younger child with an older buddy or an older child learning to be a role model for a younger child. Over all of this is the faith. Your child will learn to love the Catholic Faith. If your child is not Catholic, your child will be included to learn about the faith. Your elementary students will learn about caring about the world outside of themselves through service projects. Your middle school students will learn about leadership. Graduates of Blessed Sacrament are prepared to attend the best high schools in the city and do well in all the advanced programs: IB, Honors, and AP.

You'll like it here! The staff and administration are welcoming and inclusive, and want to hear from you when things are good and even not-so-good. They are open and warm, and are willing to work with you regarding your child's needs. They also challenge your student to want to learn, and do better. They have after school child care. They have fun and inclusive sports teams, and enrichment programs that meet a lot of kids' interests and talents. School to parent communication is effective and swift. Things quickly went sour when the main teacher started disappearing for months at a time, placing the kids in the care of assistants, art teachers, music teachers, basically anyone with a pulse. This started to wear our child out and dropping him off became a triggering experience. He was never a clingy baby so it was odd to me how distraught he was at drop off. Rather than working with you on behavior issues, they are quick to throw incident reports your way basically blaming your kid for everything. The final straw came when my child was left unattended long enough to destroy the classroom, the staff had the audacity to tell me my 3 year old child needed to take books home to glue pages back together when he was the one left unattended and could have been seriously hurt. The music teacher discussed death of a loved one with my child without permission, they didn't take accountability for either incident which really didn't sit right with me. Not to mention they take more days off than public schools but you're paying an insane amount of money just because it's "Montessori" This place is a glorified daycare, and a crappy traumatizing one at that.

If…read morewe ever have to leave, it will just be because we have to find a place closer to home or work. Here are some useful tidbits for parents who might be looking at this school: Pros: super secure sign in/out process (everyone gets their own code, and there's a hand scanner), friendly office staff, responsive to inquiries, owners are on site every day and are involved and very communicative, teacher to child ratios are maintained really well, the teachers there seem to really love what they do, well-rounded curriculum, regular meetings with parents, regular evaluations (because they're a franchise), our tiny person loves her teachers... she reaches for them when we get to school in the morning, open door policy, you can call or come by any time to see your child, you can hire the teachers as babysitters (and many of them love to do this!), you're treated like family, transitions to new classrooms are done according to the child's development, not necessarily according to birth date. Cons: cost-prohibitive (it's literally like having a second mortgage), people coming in and out of the infant classroom aren't required to wear booties or take their shoes off, parking is scarce so pick up and drop off can be a little tricky sometimes, not a lot of opportunity to meet other parents except during drop off and pick up times.
