2.5 years. A lot has changed and this review needs an update. Currently, they no longer offer crossfit classes, but all the equipment is still there. They do offer Moveabilities (MoaB) WODs during the week. You'll still get your full body workout, but it's definitely more functional/parkour related. They now have a full fledged foam pit with high par. You can practice your flips, twists on one side; flyaways and drops on the high bar; and your Ninja Warrior traversing skills against the high wall. The aerial arts classes are gaining in popularity. They also offer much more open gym hours. Any given day, you'll see young to old kids (I'm a kid) practicing their skills during open gym. And if you're a fan of Ninja Warrior, you need to get down here.

Apex is top notch on every level!

My 2 year old especially loves the ball area and the food area. The story time was done by a music student who sang the books and had a wonderful voice. It was definitely not your average story time. I would recommend brining or wearing a bathing suit for the water exhibit if your kid gets really into it or for the water area outside. Lots of parking available for free on site. We did the membership for $170 for year for the family which seems like a great deal if you go more than a few times.

There are two glaring things though that make me hesitate to ever want to make a second trip. One is the cafe. I'm not expecting the bougie majesty like you get at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, but this is in Denver. I'd consider us a pretty cosmopoliton city & this being THE Children's Museum for CO (since it's in our capitol), it should have a proper quick service option. Cold food options, fine, but a microwave for hot options? So disappointing. I noticed a lot of space dedicated to private parties, etc. Can we not junk that in favor of a real sit down spot? The worst thing though was the behavior of the older children that make the museum unusable in certain areas. Seemed to specficially be the kids on field trips. My nearly 2 year old loves a ball so you can imagine his delight in discovering the "Kinetics!" area. Despite there being what seems like a ton of balls, a bunch of unruly older children have managed to hoard them to where even adults can't wrangle one measly ball for their kid to hold. Once my poor son managed to acquire one, he ran off to a quiet corner & refused to let me show him how the exhibit worked with the tubes, etc. because he was too concerned about the ball being taken from him. Well, he was right to be concerned as these selfish older children came over & tried to take the ball from him despite them hoarding the entire room's balls insisting that they need that one too. My husband's head nearly exploded. The Bloom room is really the only safe haven for any kid let alone the young ones but my son will age out soon and then what? He's 99 percentile so even though he's one, he's already the size of a four year old but he still gets run over in rooms that are supposed to be for "all ages." Once my son ages out of the Bloom room there really is no incentive for us to come back here as the experience is way too violent, overstimulating, & a bully's playground. Similar instances happened in the Bubble room & the Market as well with different gangs of field trippers. We came on what felt like a very average day crowd wise (Thurs 9-11:30AM) so I can't imagine how awful it would be on a busier day. Really a shame that poorly parented/chaperoned kids have to ruin the experience of so many other children as I've seen multiple other reviews complain about the same thing. I should have take them more seriously.

What do you do with kids on an extra cold night? Let's go to the aquarium that we have yet to visit…read moredespite living in Denver for ages now. Due to the cold, no lines for tickets. Great indoor activity. Fairly empty inside. Perfect evening. Prices are steep for parking and admission. It's a one and done activity for us. But it was worth the experience! We spent almost two hours there, taking our time to admire and learn. We really enjoyed seeing all the beautiful sea creatures - all varieties of fish large and small, sharks, jellyfish, stingrays (which you can pet at the end), two random tigers (not expecting that at an aquarium), turtles, snakes, lizards, frogs, etc. Only negative from our outing was the guy in the ticket booth. We brought out of town friends with us and it was freezing outside. He could see that we had kids and were all super cold. It would've been kind if he had said we could just go inside and wait for the husbands to come in with the wrist bands. As it turns out we just ran inside anyway to wait for them, but not very good customer service.

I appreciate that they don't have any dolphins/orcas/big sharks for welfare concerns. I loved seeing many of the fish but the whole place is quite a quick walk. My friend and I decided to just turn around and do the loop again and spend more time at each exhibit to get our moneys worth. I loved talking to the employees, especially the stingray people, as they are clearly very passionate and knowledgeable. Their knowledge and skillsets are clearly being underutilized as most of their job seems to be yelling at kids to be gentler to the animals. I would love an informational employee at other animal exhibits to engage more and share their knowledge. I think the experience would have been good if it wasn't so expensive (~$35) for an adult.

Personally enjoyed the Alien one more as I felt the Ghostbusters one was repetitive in some parts. Experience: Instructions are clear. Good pacing and very engaging. Space: Space is good for two. Was running into each other with three people. I feel like it would be too crowded with 4+ people on certain game activities. It kinda got stuffy in the room after 30 minutes, so it would be nice if there were bigger fans on the ceiling, ventilating the air more. Drinks: Pricey. Basic alcoholic and non alcoholic option. Nothing super exciting. There's a drink holder shelf in the game rooms. Extra note: Cancellation policy is very stringent. We added two friends to our reservation on the day of the reservation and a few hours later, they couldn't make it due to a sudden medical reason. Even though these changes all happened on the day of, they would not make any exception. Only offered the option of rescheduling them in the future by emailing the manager. Keep that in mind when you make a reservation.

Looking for a time capsule then loon no further as you have found it right here at Lakeside!…read more This park really is awesome as you can tell it's been kinda just left to the elements of time as everything here just felt like the 1960's which was totally cool with me because its unique to any other park I've been to in the country and that alone created this incredible vibe! It seems like they are only open at night which is awesome because I love going to the park at night as it creates a whole new atmosphere that the day can't match from the sights and sounds you can't really go wrong with a night at the park! Lots of this park is very run down like it really needs some help which made me kinda sad but happy to see it's still in operation if I had the money I'd totally fix it up and keep it nostalgic to its roots like get the roller coaster going and what not! Wild Chipmunk alone was worth the trip here as you don't see many coasters like that being operational anywhere a true gem in the coaster world! Their train ride was awesome too takes you to the edge of the property around the lake making for a long fun ride that we totally loved! They offer all day wristbands or tickets since we only rode a few things we went with the tickets making for a bit of a saver for us money wise so just plan accordingly if you choose this path! Overall this park is awesome I'd love to see it get the love and respect it deserves as I can tell this is a very valuable asset to this community and I hope to come back here again at some point because this truly is up there with my favorite parks I've ever been to straight up a vibe here the whole time!

Is it dated? Yes. Are some of the rides and games out of order? Yep. Does it need a good scrubbing?…read moreIt does. Are the workers friendly? Not especially. If you can get over its shortcomings, Lakeside is a pretty fun place to go, and at 116 years old, it's pretty OG Denver. My husband and I took our son this afternoon (they open at 2 pm on weekends) and had a sweltering good time. They gave a new (to us anyway) entrance process. Parking is free now, and after you park you empty your pockets and do a bag search, which was no big deal and I'm honestly surprised it took as long as it did for this to happen. After security the experience kind of tanks. They had 1 person at the entrance doing admissions and NO SIGNS. Seriously, Lakeside, if you read reviews, PLEASE post a few signs at the entrance with the fees so people can decide what they want as hey wait and do your poor employee doesn't have to go over it while everyone waits. My family waited 40 minutes to get in today, and the fact is that that was 40 minutes of lost opportunities for us to have fun and to spend money at the park, and that is just speaking of my group.
