This review is specifically for the layout of the weights on the second floor. More specifically, the location of the bench press (2) and incline bench (1). The position of the two bench presses and incline bench are pushed up against the wall on the East side of the building. Right where the steel reinforcement beams are located which leaves NO space to safely spot your partner without hitting your head or back on one of those beams. You cannot even get behind them without crawling around the weights or beams themselves. This is incredibly dangerous and a major safety issue. Whomever designed the layout of the weight room does not appear to have experience with weight training. The nautilus machines and free weight areas should probably be switched. There is nowhere to safely stretch (people do it under the stairs) or do ab exercises, box jumps, etc. Someone, with knowledge of weight training, should redesign the space for efficiency and safety. read more

I've been going to this rec center for about a year now & I love it! This is a regional rec center that not only offers classes, workout equipment & a gym but it also has basketball, pickle ball, volleyball & an indoor pool with a lazy river. This facility has a wall of huge windows with a beautiful view of the mountains. It's kept up & clean. There's always plenty of parking...there are even charging stations for electric vehicles. Note, membership is free for Denver residents that are 60+ & those ages 5-18. With membership you have access to all 30 Denver rec centers & pools. I regularly go to two classes - one is a Cardio & Strength class & the other is Tai Chi, both are drop-in. The instructors are fun & very knowledgeable. Christine teaches the cardio class & always demonstrates modifications, so it's perfect for all levels of fitness. Maureen is very well versed in Tai Chi as well. This is a fantastic center with fabulous instructors. read more

This rec center does have a great pool lazy river and exercise equipment. However I had an issue with a staff member. Forget about getting any maintenance issues taken care of now. I had requested someone to look at the women's lockers in the locker room. Some of the lockers are unusable. They do not let you use your own lock. The lever to open the locker does not work. I had complained about this days and days ago. They are not fixed. Many lockers have this problem. When I spoke to the woman at the desk instead of dealing with my issue she argued with me. She told me that the person who would fix this is on leave. I understand that but someone would have been assigned to do this person's work while they are out on leave. She then replied that there were other lockers. That is obvious! .So they do not take their maintenance issues seriously. You do not allow staff to argue with customers. You need to talk to your workers and stress this. I have paid taxes over decades to Denver and deserve to be treated better than this. I am older and do not think I was taken seriously. So just be aware that if you are older also you might be treated in the same way. You need to teach your staff to treat customers better than this. read more

This review is only for the lap POOL. I usually go to another rec center (which has a much larger pool, more lanes, and tons of more space) so I was pretty surprised with how tiny the pool was. 25 meters - maybe 4 lanes? Lots and lots of people in each lane. Not fun. I left early to go swim elsewhere. The kids pool area looks great - why couldn't they have planned a little better and given the adults something as spacious? PS the lockers are a pain. They don't always work (other visitors said the same) so you then get the pleasure of traipsing upstairs (past everyone working out), dripping wet (don't put your towel inside), to ask them to unlock the locker. I walk by this center often and it always looked so nice from the outside - too bad. read more

First, it is a regional recreation center, fairly new and is not supporting the fastest growing sport currently in the USA. It claims to have "pickleball" courts, but it doesn't. What it offers are stickers for a poor substitute for permanent lines. What the rec center provides is dangerous. I've been playing for years and I can evaluate what is safe for me. I was going for a ball and the sticker indicating the bounds moved under my foot. In a fast paced game, it is dangerous to have anything you could slip, slide, or trip on while moving. The department did call me back , which I appreciated. The representative did say that what the department provided did passed its safety committee . As I slipped, I had a very different opinion from the committee. If at one time the stickers worked, then they either need to be replaced or maintained better. The department did suggest that I play at other rec centers which provides permanent lines, but why should I go out of my neighborhood, borrow a car to do so! I play in 4 different states and no where else have I played with those stickers. I know the new director is looking for a better solution, I hope it is soon before someone gets hurt. Another thing I noticed since permanently moving to Central Park is the rec center uses a multi purpose room for fitness classes that did not have mirrors. The fitness room does have mirrors. If you using a MP room for fitness, it should have mirrors to check a person's form. Working with weights, which the center does provide, should have mirrors too to make sure we can see our form and eliminate potential injuries. Great Zumba classes, wonderful instructors, friendly staff, and it even has Bosu with other great equipment. Now let the center correct some safety concerns. read more

Excellent rec center. Very affordable for the entire family. Busy, but never overly crowded. Staff does a great job keeping this place clean. Plenty of variety in classes to change things up. Beautiful views of the front range, Central Park and Colorado sunsets from the full glass cardio area. Nice pool, large basketball gym with open gym hours, and cozy weight room on the lower level. If you have kids in DPS make sure to sign them up to take advantage of the MY DENVER card for free admission and classes. Awesome perk! Nearby trails connect all of Stapleton to this rec center. Only downside... trying to turn East onto MLK from the parking lot. read more

We tried an Aqua Aerobics class last week. No one in the class was under 50 and many of us were much older. The instructor was a very young, athletic man who did nothing but fast dance type moves on the deck and expected the class to follow in the water. None of us have bodies that can do that and he was not in touch with the class. It was like a performance. Disgusted. Will not come back if he is the regular instructor. We love Aqua Aerobics and have had great classes at Montclair prior to Covid. Central Park is a wonderful facility but this was a bummer. read more

This place is pretty great! For like $5/pp you can spend all day here. It ranges from 3'6" at the lazy river to 5 feet at the wave pool. then there is also 2 kitty pools and a lap pool with looks to be 4 lanes that are 4 feet deep. The facility is new so still pretty. Lockers too and you can bring your own lock! There's also a season pass if you are going to go a lot. Totally worth it for $135. They have at least 6 guards in at a time so your kiddos are safe. read more

I've started attending Saturday spin class with Luz (Luz Cannons) and really enjoy it! Not your typical HIIT class and it is a full hour, but I particularly enjoy Luz's random collection of music -- everything from Blur to Mark Ronson to Lizzo. She has a really nice voice so when she sings along I'm not totally annoyed, as I might be with other spin instructors. Luz is also about 4-5 months pregnant so she's not 100% on the bike during class, but let's give the gal a break. And when she is spinning, she is quite impressive for someone so far along in her pregnancy. As long as Luz is teaching class, I'll be there on Saturdays. read more

The lifeguards here are so strict. No pool noodles, they kicked kids out for a second offense running. Kids MUST be close by parents at all times when the pool is only 3ft 6 inches. The lifeguards scream at these children's it's upsetting read more

Since reopening after Covid, it has been even more lovely to come back and work out. The staff are so friendly and seem happy to have people back. I love love love love going into the cardio room and not being bombarded by music and TVs. Honestly, keep it all off, sell the TVs. People bring their own entertainment. No one is interested in what's on tv. It's awesome. So glad to be back! read more

I hate going to the gym. But the annual membership here is a really good deal. And spouses get 50 percent off their membership. Even at 5:30 pm on a weekday, I rarely have to wait to get onto the weights. I can't speak to the treadmills and elliptical since I refuse to do cardio. My only complaint is that I feel like there's never a good time to get onto the basketball courts to just shoot around. Four stars, only because I hate going to the gym. I'm not a member of the Central Park Rec Center, but I do take advantage of their $6 drop in fees. In fact, I take advantage of it often enough I should be a member... I recently started coming here because Ephraim loves the bath and they have a pretty big indoor pool with a kids' area which is essentially like a giant bath in Ephraim's mind. He loves floating in the mini lazy river with me, holding down the water sprayers in the kiddie area, and trying to catch the water falling out and over the flower sculpture things. It's pretty much a young-kid-who-likes-water paradise. And entry costs only 6 bucks! The Rec Center in general is a really clean place with family lockers next to the regular men and women locker rooms. You can also rent a locker for 25 cents (which is returned to you when you are done with the locker) or bring your own lock. They have exercise classes (spin, yoga, etc.), lots of cardio equipment, a big basketball court, and a decent weight room. Plus, the view is beautiful and everyone that works there is super friendly. The lifeguards are the most kind and helpful people I know. They should all be given a Nobel peace prize for keeping this pool so clean and safe. We haven't been members long, but we are highly impressed with this facility and the overall Denver recreation center system. For $45 per month, we have access not only to the Central Park Recreation Center with its fitness center; exercise classes; full gymnasium; two pools, including a lazy river and waterslide; and daycare option for parents, but also access to 26 other regional, neighborhood, or local centers with an array of similar options throughout the city. The Central Park location was well planned, with a wall of windows that provides a beautiful view of Central Park and the Rocky Mountains. I also love that the Denver recreation system provides free membership to children ages 2 to 18. I can gladly support a program and a city that truly values healthy living. read more

Great rec center... But the prices are going waaaaay up tomorrow. I spoke w/ a front desk person yesterday and he stated that Central Park Rec is a "Regional Recreation Center." Therefore, on September 1, 2011, the price for an annual membership increases to $369. That's a little over $30 per month. In addition to that bad news, Denver Parks and Rec is doing away with the month-based plans and switching to actual visits. You can purchase 30 visits to a Regional Rec Center for $126 (averages to $4.20 per visit) and 15 visits $76 ($5.06 per visit). A one-day pass is $6. Basically, if you average 3 visits a week, you are going to be mad as hell. Last year a membership was roughly $16 per month. Based on the new pricing a "Local" rec center is $249 per year and a "Neighborhood" rec center is $190 per year. If you are thinking about rushing to Central Park today and buying a yearlong pass at the old rate, think again. "As of July 13, 2011 DPR will only offer three month memberships and day pass options until our new fee schedule goes into effect. The proposed date the new fees become effective is September 1, 2011. " I'm hoping that this new "Regional, Local, Neighborhood" pricing classification isn't true. Hopefully, they are references to where you live in relation to the rec center (Ex: if you lived across the street from the rec center you would be "Local"). But, right now, it's not looking good. read more

This rec center is amazing! Being a regular at the 20th street rec center downtown, I felt like a bit of a city mouse visiting the country. So big! So much open space! Is that a soap dispenser in the shower? I get a shelf in my locker? Magazines? Whoa! Big and bright and open, this is one of my favorite rec centers. It has ample bike parking, the cardio machines all face huge windows, and you can plug in on your machine and listen to the audio for any of the big tvs along the wall. The locker rooms are big and kind of cozy feeling, lots of bench space and one of those spinny swimsuit dryer things. (Beware, though, those things tear up your suit.) As one of the only ones open on Sundays, it is busy Sunday mornings. Which brings me to my only complaint: only four pool lanes? Really? I swim there on Sundays (along with everyone else and their mothers because almost everywhere else is closed) and it's always packed with at least two people per lane if not three. Another great thing about it, though, is they have a really active facebook presence. Have a question about class times or hours? Ask on their facebook page and they'll respond PDQ. If you live anywhere near MLK, it's a super flat, speedy, bike-lane-almost-the-whole-way ride from Five Points. read more

All I can say is good riddance Monclair. I guess I now know where all of Monclair's budget has gone. Must be to fund the incredible facility that is Central Park. This center is incredibly clean, enormous in size, has beautiful aesthetics inside and outside, has adequate secure storage for personal belongings, vast amounts of cardio and weight lifting equipment, and friendly greeters. All that has been lacking in a lot of other DP Rec Centers. Everything is well spaced so you aren't up in everyone else's business. It's feng shui perfect will all the weight lifting equipment downstairs, and all the cardio equipment upstairs accompanied by more flat screens than a sports bar. If they had an age restriction, I would probably prefer to workout here than at a 24 hour fitness. read more

Great drop in Pilates and yoga classes! I like paying a flat fee to work out on an eliptical AND get my stretch on. Great instructors, too! Yes, it is pricey. I usually use the Wheat Ridge Rec Center by my house, which is cheaper. But hey, it's Stapleton. Y'all have money to burn, judging from those houses. Lots of eliptical machines, which makes me happy. Tons of TVs stretching the walls. Beautiful views of the mountains. Really cute wading pool for the kiddies. As noted, the lap pool could be bigger, and the times for lap swimming could be expanded. But that's life, right? One request: for the love of god, could you guys please switch the showers to be temperature controlled? I hate being super hot, dripping sweat and have to take a piping hot shower. Grooooss. All in all, a good choice for your work out needs! read more

The new price hike makes Denver rec centers a joke. I've been swimming laps in rec center pools for over six years and did not renew my membership after they centers doubled/tripled their membership fees. The lap swim hours were never great. The only thing that compensated was that you could go to any rec center with a membership and different centers had different hours. A 24-hour fitness membership costs less, has more of everything and the lap pool is always open. I honestly don't see how they think anyone will stick around for the new membership fees. read more

The Denver Rec center offers a killer deal - buy 1 membership, get a 2nd half off. You do not have to be in a relationship to take advantage of this...heck, you and a (trustworthy) friend can join together. We bought a regional membership, which is the most expensive, but gives you access to any facility in the program. The cost for TWO people? 550 smackers. Granted, I have only used two facilities thus far - 20th Street and here, and this one in Stapleton is great. The west facing wall of the facility is all windows, so it makes for an unobstructed view of the mountains, whether on one of the many cardio machines upstairs or while pumping iron downstairs. While they have a lap pool, indoor basketball court, lots of lockers (bring your own lock) and clean facilities, i do have a few complaints. More fans are needed in the cardio space, since the sun and all those bodies make it hot! Also, the exercise balls need more air since the BOSU was borderline deflated and the aerobic room gets locked if there are no classes. read more

The worst. We have been coming here for 3 years and I never see an adult managing the place. Not only that but the throngs of preteens stuck to their iphones after basketball are rude and unapologetic, taunting people in the parking areas and hanging out forever on all the seating area. Really bad manners, profanity, cursing, nothing you would want with little kids around. My daughter fell on the concrete while I was handling my toddler, meanwhile a car full of preteens yelled "asshole" from the car as they were exiting. What was once a great place for a single working mom to get some quality time with kids for a great price on a Sunday is now ruined. read more

Joined the Denver rec regional membership recently. Have been happy with this decision. My wife and I were looking for mainly good cardio equipment to use a few times a week. Equipment is well maintained and usually no wait for equipment of choice. Staff is friendly and helpful. Haven't utilized any classes, basketball court, or pool yet but will in future. read more

This place is so great to work out at and you can't beat the price! You can pay month to month and there's no cancellation fee. I used to stop by after work around 4/4:15 and although it was full, you could always access the equipment you wanted. There is plenty of space and I never felt overcrowded. Using weights can be intimidating experience, but I was comfortable using them here. There aren't ridiculous body builder types dropping weights on the floor and there are all sorts of spots to do floor work out of the way if you want. I was a big fan of using the ellipticals. They overlook the park. It's a pretty and peaceful view. I enjoyed coming here after work. I've been eagerly awaiting the opening of the City Park Rec Center (closer to where I live now), hoping it will be as awesome as this facility. I never used the pool, but kids seemed to love it. The locker rooms are huge and spacious - be sure to bring your own lock! read more

I don't actually have a membership, but live in Stapleton and have been known to take advantage of the $6 drop in fee. $6 to use a treadmill when there's 5 inches of snow out? Soo worth it.. you can hop on one of the many dreadmills and watch the snow fall over Central Park. They have lockers with keys already in them, which is a huge plus in my book... just so easy! I can imagine that this would be a great place to bring stir-crazy kids when the weather is bad as well.. there's this really cool looking pool with a water slide. Ample parking, friendly staff, and a clean facility. read more

The leisure pool is phenomenal. I will be bringing my 2.5 year old back again and again. Lockers in the lockers room are roomy! Workout equipment and facilities looked top-notch too but I didn't experience it first-hand so I couldn't say for sure. The place is fairly new though, so everything is pretty nice. read more

I LOVE this rec center. I love everything about it. I cannot say enough good things about how spacious and gorgeous the cardio and weight rooms are. Mountain views from every cardio machine and views of westerly creek and Central Park from the weight room. Nice, new machines too. Plenty of free weights, jump ropes, mats, kettle bells - they have it all. I also take a lot of group fitness classes and particularly enjoy barre (Jordan Rowse is incredible), yoga, and group training. Also, I use the child care center (called kid watch) and it is seriously the BEST KEPT SECRET in denver. My son loves it there. All the teachers know his name, they make him feel safe and comfortable, and they do awesome activities, games and crafts. They also have a fenced in play ground outside with a sand box, bikes, and play structures. And it's SOooOOooO cheap! Only $.50 per 90 minute visit. Holla!! My son also takes classes at this rec including tot tumbling and sports camps - he loves his classes too! read more

Definitely one of the better options in this area. You can't beat $6 drop in rates, but otherwise membership fees are as much or more than many comparable facilities in Denver. Classes and instructors are great (but get there in advance for more popular sessions, since you have to register in person immediately prior. Their online resources need major work but there are always machines available when I've been in. Be prepared to have your workout and your locker room overrun by children, and for annoying holiday hours since this is a city facility. read more
