I've only used the weight room so far but my experience has been very positive. The facility is clean, the equipment is well maintained, and there's a good variety of free weights, and machines for a good workout. Lots of signs about checking phones during their workouts and I had to ask several people several whether they were finished. Just a bad habit I wished was enforced. The recreation center has a pool and gym and very active. The parking lot is normally full so I normally park on the street. I'm glad this is a city facility that is frequently used by its citizens. read more

I'm not even going to pretend to know all or most or even a few of recreational centers but this weekend we wanted to go swimming. We called three and they were commencing lifeguards training. And also I didn't realize pools didn't open until memorial day. Luckily we called around and found this establishment was ahead of the program. This hidden gem saved the day as my godson's were leaving the state today. The facility was clean and the lifeguards seemed knowledgeable though not the friendliest. Neither was the front desk lady. One female lifeguard was friendly though. I understand rules for safety but one rule still has me baffled. My godson was using one of their floating devices in the lap pool and he was told only swimmers doing laps can use them. Not like anyone was doing laps and I didn't see any harm using it. The price was great as well. For my children ages 5, 8, and 10 was $12.00 for an all day pass. . read more

Not for me.. I appreciate this club and what it offers the community, but it doesn't offer much for non senior adults with busy schedules. It seems largely geared towards youth and seniors. Most of the fitness classes are geared towards seniors and are in the middle of the day, almost none at night. The hours don't seem limited until you try to work around them, then they're frustrating, especially on the weekends. The workout room is stifling hot, steamy and smelly. The machines are very limited. Almost no one who works out here seems to have the courtesy to clean their machines after using them. I was intrigued by the pottery studio but there are limited sessions and a huge waitlist. I found out I can go to 24 fitness for less $$ and that seems like a no brainer. read more

I have tried a few times to be friendly an introduce myself to a certain lifeguard, not the young lifeguards, or the middle aged ones ( Todd and Tanya ) , but he is the oldest lifeguard there, and a GRUMP...he never smiles ,unless you are an old woman, then he just stares grouchily. He let an ENTIRE group of old women go down the slide today, glasses on, back braces, floatation devices, all go down the slide! WHICH is NOOOTTTTTT ALLOWED!!! MULTIPLE TIMES....but children are told " not to be rough" , with WHOM???? EACH OTHER???? No one else was there...This guy just had to try to think of something to say, anything, to fluff his feathers and act like he is being paid to do something, instead of just stand there....UUUGGGGHHHHHHHH read more

We tried out this rec center looking for a place for the kids to swim last weekend. There were 2 pools, one for the kids with water features, basketball hoop and slide and also a lap pool. The pool wan't busy at all for a Saturday. The pool and locker rooms were clean and tidy. The kids had a blast and we'll be back! read more

Who says "the government totally sucks?" When you live in the City & County of Denver, you get hooked up with cool libraries, parks, and...recreation centers. Tucked away in the vast sterileness of McMansions that are known to us commoners as the Lowry redevelopment, lies the Montclair Rec Center. Now this isn't your standard rec center where parents go and drop off their kids (also referred to as gov't subsidize daycare!). At Montclair Rec Center, adults can participate by taking pottery lessons, yoga classes, dance, or utilize their weight and cardio room. There is even pickup basketball and lap swimming. Now I like to use the cardio/weight room at MRC. Absolutely fab. The MRC has all the equipment I'd want to use at a regular gym, without being a disgusting meat market. Best yet, the membership fees are a mere fraction of what you pay for a very low-end gym. Thanks Denver! However, be warned that there are rules governing the use of machines in the gym...and if you dare to ignore those rules, some crabby old lady or some crotchety old bastard will be there to publicly condemn your actions, using words, body language, or my favorite, the stank-eye. read more

As far as Rec Centers go, this is one of my favs. It's clean, the staff has always been friendly and helpful, and usually there aren't a lot of people (so you won't be battling other grumpy exercisers for swim lanes...) To be fair I have only been to the indoor pool and I am largely basing my review on that. But they do have a gym area and exercise classes that you can also choose from. The pool has a great area for kids. It's complete with a slide and those bucket things that will dump a ton of water on you if you get too close. Plus, there's a full size pool for the grown ups who want to get their swim on. So don't be shy, throw on your sweats and dust off those sneakers, Montclair is worth your time. (Not to mention if you time your visit just right, you are likely to run into some Nuggets players who seem to go here for the odd basketball game....just sayin'...) read more

Thanks city of Denver for establishing a fine facility for the likes of all individuals to work out, stay in shape, and enjoy extracurricular activities. Not all recreation centers operating under Denver Parks and Recreation Centers are that stellar, for instance Cook, Washington Park, and Harvard Gulch, especially when it comes to work out equipment, however, Montclair has become my preference for pumping the iron! Montclair's facility is adequate in size, offers adequate changing rooms with lockers, quality workout equipment, and even a pool with slides for the kiddos. And I assure you that you could not pay me enough to step foot in this pool. But really though, the staff keeps it relatively clean along with the rest of the facility. If you are not utilizing the recreation centers, you are really missing out as it is a great deal for Denver residents. Montclair even offers yoga, pottery, weightlifting, and fitness classes. I also love that they are open on Sundays unlike most of the centers. Should you come across me here, feel free to give me a spot. Much appreciated! read more

I was double checking hours today and decided to follow that to a Yelp review. I noticed there weren't any recent so thought I would add. I love this rec center! No one has "attitude" from the staff to the patrons. I come here for the gym which recently got a little rearrangement and some upgrades. The pool is great! It's a nice size and they accommodate a variety of activities! There's space for lap swimming, open/free swim, and a fun area for kids. It's a neighborhood place - with kids and families from around the area gathering here. I grew up here and I'm older so I remember when Lowry was an Air Force Base. The original Lowry pool was great, and I remember a gym where I came for a dance in middle school. There were so many activities and facilities on base that military families used - it was really a gathering place then too. I am glad I get that same vibe at Montclair. Physically it's a smaller space that's well designed to allow different activities. They have a gymnasium where games are played, classes get held, a cycling room, gym with weights, treadmills, rowers, a pool table. The pool table is a magnet for kids of all ages. The ten year olds with swagger and know it all to the little sister who can barely reach the pool cue. There is also a craft area - full of artists work and supplies. A lot going on. You do need to be mindful that there are a lot of people in a small space. Just do that and smile - which you can't help cuz you're going to be having fun! read more

This is a review of the staff and attempting to enroll my daughter in private swim lessons. We signed her up and were told to expect a phone call in a couple of weeks. 6 weeks later, no call. We went in to talk to them to check our status, the front desk people could not have been more rude or cared less. There was apparently something fascinating going on on the computer and were not able to give us any information or able to steer us to someone who could. We called in order to bypass the punks at the front desk only to be told we missed our slot, too bad, try again at the end of February. We will gladly drive the extra 10 minutes to go to Stapleton were we are treated as a customer not an inconvenience. read more

This place is a great Rec center. I go to Bishop Machebeuf High School which is a block away so it is a great place to work out after school. The center has a very friendly staff that have even let me go in for free when I was broke. The prices are amazing. They have a basketball court, swimming pool with laps, separate pool with a water slide for the kids, a weight room with a ton of machines and treadmills. So all in all it is a great place. read more

I have been going to the morning water aerobics class at Montclair Rec Center for the past year. I prefer the deep water classes which are on Tuesdays and Thursdays...however, a group of participants convene in the deep water while the shallow classes occur on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays and we have our own group. The water is cooler than other rec centers...but it makes you work a bit harder and we warm up as soon as possible. Nice individual showers and plenty of room in the locker room. read more

So-so rec center. Gym is over-run with unsupervised preteens and teens who take over the court. They shoot basketballs up high where they get stuck limiting the basketballs in play. Younger kids don't stand a chance and can actually get hurt by the older kids. Staff are nice but have no control over the situation. Coaches look the other way because they have no control either or are afraid to discipline other parents' children. Pool area is better supervised. Locker room is a bit chilly with a lot of hair all over but otherwise fine. read more

My daughter visited this pool with her grandmother today. The lifeguards were NOT impressive. One was on her phone while on-duty, which my mother reported. What upset my daughter was a lifeguard policing what she wore. She is 6, and was wearing swim trunks, but was not allowed to swim without something on her top. SHE IS 6 YEARS OLD, and was made to feel ashamed about her body, whereas a boy would not have been required to cover his torso. I understand that it is important for swimming facilities to have appropriate dress expectations, but there is no good reason to treat young children differently according to their gender. We will not be returning. read more

Love the pool at this rec center! It's maintained very well and always looks and feels really clean. The kids'/leisure pool is awesome -- lots of fun for the litle ones with slides and water features. The entire pool area is quite large and feels very open, even when there are lots of rec center patrons around. Would definitely recommend making the trip over to Lowry to have some fun pool time! read more

Interesting that all posted reviews are a year or more old. Clean is not how I'd describe Montclair Rec Center now unless you're comparison is a pig sty! 2 of the 5 showers in the woman's locker room have been out-of-order for months. Showers have only cold to very hot water flow. Shower curtains are hanging by few hooks, no hand soap at the sinks. Locker room rarely cleaned. Lockers still have mud & grit in them from last winter's snow storms. The pool is over crowded with daycare and day camp users who have absolutely NO control over these kids in the locker rooms. The adults that should be supervising the kids are out taking a smoke break or who know what! Yes, sorry to say its gone from a very nice facility to a very poor one in the 3 years I've gone there. I hope the next Mayor of Denver will pay attention to these centers and doesn't let free summer passes for all kids under 18 ruin it for all of us. read more
