Such a historic site deserves much better care and trained people interacting with the public. I should have known something was wrong when I was informed that I needed to give three days notice if canceling and would forfeit an overpriced night's stay ($257/night for one person) if I canceled within that window. The lobby was grand and historic, but the building was nearly silent when I entered. Not a soul in sight. Now I understand why. I was given a third floor room that was the furthest from the elevator, in a poorly lit, dingey, slightly scary hallway that had years of re-painting over old paint. The room was sparse, only one chair, not a table to work from, or lights by the bed or even a telephone. The cable television kept losing signal because the internet was unstable. I had to check my email seated from the bed. The bathroom didn't have soap, to wash hands, and the sink was the tiniest sink imaginable. There wasn't any counter space in the bathroom to put toiletries on and the bath gel in the shower was empty. The only soap to wash hands with or to use in the shower was a small jar of complimentary bath gel. The bath towels were two hand towels. The flooring in the room had recently been refinished, but was so shoddily done that it was uneven as it met the door to the bathroom. The staff were uninformed and incredibly rude. I had to ask for ice, because there wasn't a refrigerator, and when I asked to borrow a proper glass wine glass, the attendant suggested that I might steal it. When I asked her about local places to eat (there isn't a restaurant in the hotel), she said she didn't know about the local restaurants because she wasn't from there. The morning crew were even worse. Such a disappointment for a hotel with a historic past and a presence deserving of much better care. read more

Our experience at the George Washington Hotel and Event Center felt like two completely different businesses. The event side was flawless. The historic building is beautiful and full of character. The event spaces were perfect for our daughter's wedding, and the food received wonderful compliments from guests. Hayley, the event coordinator, was fantastic. She was responsive, organized, and helpful throughout the planning process and the entire wedding day. The catering and event staff were attentive, professional, and efficient. They earned every bit of a five star rating. The hotel experience was a one star experience, primarily because of the general manager, Robert. From the beginning, communication was difficult. His responses often felt defensive or dismissive rather than collaborative. During our tour, Robert showed us beautifully decorated rooms and presented them as typical. When guests arrived, many of the rooms did not match what we were shown. Some were sparsely furnished, lacked basic seating, or had maintenance problems. Some had cleanliness issues, including dead flies and dried food. One room had a broken door frame and a door hanging loose on its hinges. Multiple room assignments changed without notice, and despite being told the hotel would be reserved for our group, at least one room was rented to someone outside the event, which we discovered in advance and were able to correct. Some rooms were eventually comped, but this was reactive rather than proactive, and it added stress to what should have been a joyful weekend. Five stars for the event staff and venue. One star for the hotel and the general manager's handling of accommodations. read more

We could not have picked a more perfect wedding venue! At first, I was skeptical never having been to Washington. I'm very picky and aesthetic and look are VERY important to me. Having originally planned my wedding at a marble and gold mansion (the venue was shutdown), it was VERY difficult to pick another location that matched my look. Then I found the GW! From the moment we booked, the staff was beyond wonderful--every single person we worked with was so kind, professional, and truly on top of every detail. You can tell they genuinely care, and that made the entire process so enjoyable. The owner is absolutely awesome too and clearly invested in making every couple's day special. The venue itself is gorgeous, and our photos turned out amazing. I wanted a very editorial look and received so many compliments on how beautiful our wedding photos are compared to others people have seen. Our guests are still talking about how great everything was, how delicious the food was, and how much fun they had! On top of that, the fact that it's a historical hotel made it even more awesome. I was fascinated by the place! You're literally hosting this extravagant event in the same location our president like JFK were hosted. Having early access to the venue was such a game-changer--it gave us plenty of time to set up, breathe, and relax so I felt fully confident when the big moment came that everything was in place. Everyone kept asking if I was nervous on wedding day and I was literally stress free and just so happy! That is SO important. If you're looking for a venue that combines beauty, incredible service, and a team that makes you feel completely taken care of, look no further. We had ZERO issues with the GW Hotel. We're so grateful we celebrated our day here--it truly exceeded every expectation! read more

If you are looking for a beautiful historic hotel I would definitely recommend staying here. It is a beautiful venue for events like weddings ect. The staff is very unfriendly however I could look past this as I took this hotel for what it is: a historic hotel with no amenities or customer service. If you are looking for an updated hotel with plenty of amenities this is not the place for you. The rooms are very old and have zero to offer: no coffee maker no phone, an ancient tv that hardly works but the e beauty of the building made up for it for me. I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to stay here again but it is a beautiful place and overall had a pretty enjoyable experience. read more

The George Washington is a remarkable piece of history. If you are looking for something new and sleek, this place is probably not for you, but I loved my stay here. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The suite we were in was the Marilyn Monroe Suite, and it features 2 bathrooms, one with a shower and a Jacuzzi tub. The room has lots of character. There's no coffee maker, but there is a small fridge and sink. The location and view out the window is great. They have 21 hotel rooms, the rest are apartments, long term stay or offices. The clerk showed us the Oval Room, where Kennedy made a campaign speech. There's also some Malcolm Parcell in the Pioneer Room. Gorgeous historical treasure, but somewhat faded. read more

This review pains me to write. I had a beautiful NYE wedding at the George Washington Hotel. It was gorgeous. Picture perfect. The chef is as astounding. A diamond in the rough. Those elements were top notch. We had some other not so great features, like the bartender the evening before just not knowing how to handle a crowded bar to point she called last call at 11pm. I had to go rushing around to ensure the bar would not close. The hotel did make this right but it was quite the hassle the night of our rehearsal. And booking rooms was a nightmare because they have a terrible system of keeping track (or not keeping track at all of room blocks). Here is the thing that has me most upset. We paid a lot of money for our wedding. They forgot one of our main appetizers. The one we were both most excited about and the one that obviously cost the most and was most upscale. After realizing this, I called the director of operations and she apologized admitting she had forgot to put it on the order to the chef. Okay, I get that mistakes are made. I was disappointed but not mad. I asked for her to come up with a value of the shrimp and supply us with a refund since I had prepaid. She agreed. My wedding was NYE and it is now July. I've got no value number, no refund, no nothing... She ignores, dodges and doesn't return my calls. This probably would have been a happy positive review if the follow up services were okay. But it's seems since they have my money and the event is over they don't care. read more

Once upon a time, I'm sure this was a very nice hotel. The website definitely makes it look that way, anyway. But don't be fooled: What's left of it now is not so great. First, the good: Thick plaster walls, so I didn't notice any sounds from the rooms next door nor from above. The housekeeping woman was really friendly for the few seconds that I talked to her. The lobby is pretty and was probably once very grand-looking. The location is convenient to the center of Washington. The bed was clean and comfortable. The bad: Front desk staff really give you the sense they don't want to be there (I don't blame them). There's not much around in the way of breakfast, and the hotel doesn't provide it. The rooms are extremely basic -- no desk/table, no info about the town or hotel amenities in the room, no coffee maker. I found a phone book but no phone. Oh wait no, I found the phone, but it was broken so someone hid it behind the television. I guess they don't want anyone calling the front desk asking for anything. The room was fairly crusty, with damage to the walls and a stick-on bathroom floor that didn't make it all the way to the wall. The ancient a/c window unit was positively filthy, with something black on the inside that was probably blowing mold into the room. No dedicated parking (but I did not have an issue with this, tbf). I chose this hotel because I prefer to stay in local businesses rather than chain hotels when I can, but when something's marketed as a "boutique hotel" I have some minimum expectations...Like coffee and a working phone, if nothing else. The George Washington is as basic as a roadside motel, if not more so. If you adjust your expectations downward, you won't be disappointed. I was really glad to leave, though. read more

I got locked out of the building at 2:30 AM and I was stuck out there calling staff numbers for a half hour before somebody came to the front door to let me back in. The hotel itself isn't bad and it might have been fine if it weren't for that. But I'm working late in here and needed to go to my car for a charging cord and then couldn't get back into the building. No one at the front desk. And my room key wouldn't swipe in the swiper lock at the door. If I hadn't thought that I should maybe carry my phone out "just in case" I'd probably be sleeping in my car right now waiting for the morning shift or for the cops to tap on my car window in the morning. Thankfully I was able to wake a night manager on her cellphone and after profuse apologies and multiple calls to "get someone" I finally got back in. When I checked in earlier I even asked what's the deal if I leave and need to reenter and the desk clerk said the night manager will be knocking around somewhere. I don't know where that somewhere is but he's hopefully up for a reprimand. If there's a card swipe at the door it should work for guest room cards. Otherwise there's no way to reenter the building without yelling at people on the phone for a half hour. TL/DR: I needed to go outside to get my phone charger from my car and wound up needing to walk around the building for a half hour making calls to get back in. Would have been completely hosed if I left my phone in my room. read more

Spent the weekend at the George Washington Hotel for a wedding at it was great. The hotel has a lot of history and eye catching detail. What made it top notch was the service and attention of the staff. One and all are exceptional. Thanks Tim and team for a wonderful weekend. Definitely consider the George Washington Hotel if you'll be staying in the Washington PA area. read more

My daughter is looking to go to Washington - Jefferson University, I found myself heading to town for a night and in need of a room. I dislike chain hotels, restaurant's, etc. I was hesitant of staying here after reading numerous reviews for half a dozen sites. David B left a review on 8/8/17 He nailed it! If you are looking for the latest, greatest, cutting edge hotel then keep looking. If Beautiful, historic, sexy, badass history and architecture are something you dig then this Hotel and local buildings are for you. Was the elevator the fastest? No. Was there a coffee maker? No. A Bidet? No. Now, Were the windows drafty? Yes. Was the bed comfortable? Yes. The staff was friendly and accommodating and knowledgeable of some of the buildings history. Chris Bourbakis the General Manager offered and gave me a tour of the building and answered questions I had. The artwork done by the late Malcolm Parcell in the Pioneer room takes one back to before the automobile ruled as the dominate mode of transportation. The artwork Parcell has graced us with I find mesmerizing. I never knew of him until my visit. The steps where JFK Spoke in the little dome ceilinged room shows age but still I found beautiful. The basement that once hosted a prohibition time speak easy has some of the nicest wood work and stain glass I have ever seen. It is an wonderful, old, sexy building full of history and offers a window into a vibrant history of this little part of our Country for those who care to take a look. Kudos to Kyrk Pyros who saw a gem needing to be polished and or resurrected and not lost to time. I will be back. Cheers, Bobby B read more

We had our wedding at the George Washington Hotel this past month. The day we went in for a tour we knew this was the place we wanted to get married. Our goal was to not be in a boring hotel ballroom with a generic scenery. Th GW was absolutely stunning and held so much character. The original crown molding, tiling on the floors, murals, marble, and gorgeous chandeliers made it the perfect place for us. Not only is it beautiful but it was so very convenient for us and our guests. We had most of our guests stay right there at the hotel the night before and night of, (others took a shuttle organized by the GW to a close Hampton inn) had the suites for us to separately get ready in, got married in the Washington room (which looked amazingly like a church), cocktail hour was in the spacious lobby, and dinner/dancing in the massive upstairs ballroom. The staff was able to accommodate our large guest list by having us use the balcony with a second bar upstairs. We even had the option for an after party in the hotel bar which was the perfect ending to the night. The staff was punctual, friendly, attentive, and very involved in the planning process. The events coordinator was always a quick text or phone call away and was adamant on making sure the day went the way we intended it to. They even have a display room filled with items such as center pieces, vases, sashes, altar for the ceremony, and signs, to save the couple some money. Everything was very easy to plan since the GW provides their own linens, silver and glass ware, tables, and catering. We are getting so many compliments on how beautiful it was and it truly was the perfect experience. I highly recommend the George Washington Hotel. read more

i stayed at the george washington hotel during my cousins wedding. the wedding was awesome. the rooms on the other hand were horrible. we actually ended up checking out do to the fact that the hotel is full of mold. one of the drop ceiling panels fell from being wet and it was covered in solid black mold. my further research of this has shown that there have been many other complaints regarding this situation. mold can kill you and i don't want too die that's for sure. so if you decide to stay at the golden moldy considered yourself warned, read more
