Within 5 min walk you can get to at least a dozen restaurants and bars. Huge Oktoberfest type restaurant is adjacent to the hotel in case you don't feel brave enough to explore. Parking onsite is $20/n but we had not problem parking across the street at a public garage for $15/n Expect a typical Hyatt Place / House continental breakfast. The man that takes care of the breakfast area do make sure everything is out and ready for quests. Hotel also has a small bar which is stocked with basic selection of liquor.

I'm going to start with the noise level. I'll let you decide if you want to read further…read more The outside noise level is very high. Not just loud, it's LOUD. There are freight trains going by 24/7, their horns blasting through the air, even in the middle of the night. Imagine being startled awake by a train horn a few times a night. Loud enough to drown out the TV, muscle cars with their signature exhaust roar filled our evenings as they cruised down Carson Street. If you can sleep through anything, then by all means, read on. Getting to the hotel was a bit of a challenge. Locals have a saying "you can see where you're going but you can't get there from here". Add the dark and the rain and the fun meter pegs rapidly. We finally arrived. (Now raining a little harder). There were two spots in front of the hotel set aside for registration. Uncovered. Both occupied. My husband let me out in the street where I then entered the building and took the elevator from the basement to the lobby. (We shortly found out that the hotel has a parking garage from which you can enter the basement "lobby".) Registration provided no surprises and I was even given an upgrade! A room on a higher floor with a better view - which I was soon to find out was a better view of the roof of the Cheesecake Factory. We loaded the cart in the garage, road the elevator to the lobby, walked across the lobby, got into another elevator to finally arrived to our room. The room was clean and decently well appointed with exception of the refrigerator. The small box was nearly half freezer. Once I stored my medication and a few drinks, there was no room for anything else. After a sleepless night, I went down to the lobby for breakfast. Mediocre at best, maybe that's even a compliment. How to screw up oatmeal so badly is a mystery I may never solve. There was one breakfast employee who all I can say is "bless her heart". And yes, totally the southern meaning of the phrase. My husband would add that the parking garage is beyond challenging. Space was at a premium, especially while a wedding was underway. There are spaces meant to be double parked in - no idea how that works. The rest of the spaces are very narrow, and a good third of the spaces have a large concrete column in them. Parking our minivan even with the mirrors folded was like threading a needle. Thank goodness for backup cameras (and a wife who is not afraid to tell her husband where to go!) Not everything was bad - every employee we interacted with was friendly (except the breakfast lady). The location was very convenient to restaurants and shops, though I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be walking around after dark. Would I stay here again? No. Would I recommend this hotel with caveats? Probably not. You decide. ***** A quick note...Pittsburgh is beautiful, the people friendly, the food amazing and the Steelers second only to God (though we do pray for them during mass!) I grew up here but haven't lived here in 40 years. Though you can take a girl out of Pittsburgh, you'll never take Pittsburgh out of the girl!

My last visit a few months ago was to see the works of my good friend Rick Bach, a renowned artist who now resides in DC but still does so much work in and around Pittsburgh and our region. The layout is well planned and the usage of an old building adds to the aesthetic of a modern gallery. It's large enough to display big sculptures and other installations. A South Side gem for sure.

My fiance and I were looking for a New York loft-type venue that could hold around 180 people. In New York this venue would cost the same amount that my whole wedding will cost (we looked there first and hurried it back to the 'burgh). We're planning our Pittsburgh wedding from San Francisco, so it's important that we have vendors who know what they're doing without meeting us often. Jay has been great. He's not so fantastic with email, so get him on the phone to schedule. We're even just dropped by to look at the space and never had trouble being buzzed in. Jay and his colleague Mike who works on videography are always very honest recommending vendors who know the space and can work with us from a distance. Totally worth the money for this space and the ease of working with Jay.

Long story short, HIP notified my BFF via email only one week before her wedding that, to comply with the fire marshal's mandate, their venue would no longer be able to accommodate her wedding. Fortunately, the bride and bridal party were able to miraculously find another amazingly accommodating venue that same day, but HIP's handling of the issue was nothing less than classless. What was already a stressful situation was exacerbated by HIP's incompetent and unsympathetic actions, including (but not limited to): - delayed communication of the venue's inability to host the wedding - being unresponsive to requests to finalize details of the venue transition (yet still having time to post videos to social media about the situation) - trying to charge ridiculous prices for minimal venue involvement ($2,500 just to use the venue as a hotel and to take pictures there), - and claiming the rented tables were damaged when they were returned (even though they were already damaged when provided in the first place) just to be able to keep the $500 deposit We're so thrilled that the wedding turned out well despite the frustration of having to deal with HIP, but their behavior and attitude were completely unprofessional and, quite frankly, rude. If you're looking to have your big day at their venue, I'd recommend thinking twice. Give your business to people that truly have your best interests -- and not just your money -- in mind.

It's host to the Blacksheep Puppet Festival every fall- which is usually worth checking out. I have also been to several not-so-great theatrical events here. They almost always have beer that's free with admission to a event. The atmosphere is industrial- the Brewhouse has a pretty interesting history and besides serving as a venue is home to several artists.

Located just in the back of Dr. Tumblety's specialty shop (behind a bookcase of course) it boasts Victorian romance, intrigue and mystery with its handsome furnishings and accessories. Everything screams early-1900s. The craft cocktails are next level as is the service. The drinks are curated with house-made spirits. They also have stellar mocktail options. I've been here for cocktail tastings, burlesque shows, and other events.
