This is a really excellent hotel, I had a very relaxing stay here…read more It's right on the sea front, opposite the pier, so my room at the front of the building had a lovely view of the sea, and all along the promendade. The room itself was very comfortable and the bed was fantastic. The decor is simple and modern and everything was spotlessly clean. The bathroom was well thought out, with nice toiletries and a really deep bath, which made for an excellent relaxing soak after I went for a run. There are also a few other nice touches like herbal tea bags, and bottles of water in the little fridge. The owner/manager was really superb, he told me the best route for my run, and sorted out my meals (vegan and wheat free), with no fuss or hassle at all. For dinner, I had roasted veg in a tomato sauce, and for breakfast I had a fruit platter and some porridge. The breakfast isn't buffet style, so everything is prepared fresh, and the fruit was the best I have had in a hotel for a long time, in fact probably ever. Deliciously fresh melon, apple, pear, grape and pineapple. I would definitely stay here again.

We just arrived this morning and are already in love with this hotel. This place is so dog friendly…read moreeven for a 30kg German shepherd. Dogs are allowed everywhere in the hotel including the restaurant! Everyone is dog mad and our dog was told she was beautiful many, many times. Sitting at the bar enjoying a drink, dog gets a bowl of water, this isn't the welcome you normally get. It would've been nice, though, if we were directed to the nearest places out dog could toilet when we checked in. (Overnight) if you are a light sleeper, do not take one of the rooms facing the seafront in summer. The road is used constantly and with the windows open it makes it difficult to sleep, but the view is worth it for those of us who are willing to make the sacrifice. As an older hotel, the walls are thin and you can hear people stomping in the corridor. The tea/coffee set to is good, includes bottled water. The bathroom small but functional although it did take me awhile to figure out his to turn the shower on. I would still come back here again.

We really enjoyed our meal here. The food and service were both excellent. We started the meal with…read morea bottle of Beau Sud Rose wine and that was quite good if you disregard the cartoonish label. For the starter we had the fried peppers. These were shaped like little hot peppers but they were not hot. We really liked that dish. For the main course, I had the cod & chips and my wife had the chicken hogao. Both arrived very hot and tasted great. The tartar sauce with mine was made at the restaurant and was excellent. The only issue with the tartar sauce was there was so little of it. By the time we finished there was no room for desert. We really like this place and may return tonight if we get back from Cambridge in time.

We were lucky enough to stay here in one of the lodges on a Secret Escapes deal…read more The lodges are part of a recent refurbishment to the pub and are nestled quietly at the back, surrounding a massive fire pit. Each lodge is unique in its design, and has its own private outdoor area complete with fireplace and chairs to snuggle up. We stayed in the Pretty Vacant lodge, the focal point being a massive Vacant/Occupied sign above the bed, which you could move from vacant to occupied. Attention to detail is key, and the room provides the guest with a host of thoughtful extras. From the local toiletries in the bathroom which you could purchase in the village, to the delicious cream tea that welcomes you in the room. We had dinner that evening in the pub. The food was really delicious, and well portioned. A similar themed followed at breakfast the following morning. The entire pub and accommodation is really quirky, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Whilst there is not much to do in the surrounding village, this does not matter as The Bell is so charming you don't want to leave the room, or venture any further for food.

Our room was tiny but very clean and well kept. We got it last minute on a third party site and were glad we had two nights here. The breakfast is a small menu but I appreciate the vegetarian selections. The best breakfast I've had was the vegetarian Pattie sandwich. Mmm mmmm! Just the right amount of food, two pieces of crusty toast and a savory veggie patty which reminded me of harvest burgers in the 90s when I first became a vegetarian. Very tasty. They have a 24/7 bar (yaaaaaas) and an excellent wine list. Great dry white wines. My other breakfast here I ordered salmon and cream cheese toast (instead of a croissant) and the husband got one of the croissants. It was good. Top that off with a nice cold Prosecco and that's a nice Saturday morning holiday. :) the guy who waited on us July 12 in the morning gave us outstanding service. Didn't catch his name but I was impressed overall. He gave us a taxi recommendation which is always helpful. There was a live jazz band Thursday night outside the hotel and that was very energetic and fun.

We were fortunate enough to get an outdoor table for an incredible meal and cocktails on a lovely summer evening and a most comfortable room in a delightful historic hotel. Not to mention a fine breakfast. To make it perfect the service is phenomenal! Thank you, AJ & Brian for everything.
