Currently planning our wedding and had the worst experience with Junior. Junior is very rude and completely unprofessional. He had an attitude while trying to work with him. He would not respond to emails or calls, and when he finally did, he was rude and continued with his bad attitude. Completely agree with the other reviewers who say that Junior and the customer service here is incredibly hard to work with. Hands down the best florist in Dallas -- and Texas -- and maybe the world! I have used Garden Gate for lovely thank you arrangements for hostesses, for charity luncheons for hundreds of guests and for both my wedding and my child's. Let them know your budget and give them an idea of what you want in terms of color or types of flowers. For larger events, gather your ideas and collect some photos of what you are aiming for and then make an appointment with Junior (absolutely one of the most creative and full of kindness and integrity people I know). The more you are able to convey to convey the look that you want, the better they will be able to get you what you want. But be prepared to listen to Junior's advice from having done literally thousands of events also. Junior knows which flowers will be in season, which ones will wilt after a few hours and which ones will ruin your wedding photos. He will guide you to a result that will wow your guests and will do it in a gracious manner. Maria, Carlos, Arturo and the rest of the staff are just a very special group of people. I hate to do this but somebody needs to say something. I don't think it's this business's fault, but there needs to be more done on their end. There are multiple job listings for this company on Indeed.com. I've been interviewed and everything. Turns out it's a scammer who's stolen somebody's email and names of people from the company. As soon I realized my identity may have been stolen I called the phone number listed here to confirm if the application posted was real or if they even knew me (since for over a week I've been supposedly speaking with the hiring manager and the HR director). The girl on the phone said that someone has been posting fake job listings on indeed and the only thing I can do is report the listing. When I gave her the information I had she verified that the person I was emailing was an old employee who had passed away (I'm sorry for your loss if this is true). Now the rest is up to me to fix. The problem I'm having with this is that these listings have been up for a long time. I researched and basically stalked this company online to make sure it was a legitimate company. These scammers are using real links to the official company website, social media accounts, etc. With the contact information I was given, they created portfolios, brochures, testimonies, and used photos from events this company actually worked on to make it seem like they are legit and reputable. I can understand the frustration with having to deal with indeed, but YOU NEED TO POST SOMETHING ON YOUR WEBSITE OR OFFICIAL SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS ABOUT THESE LISTINGS! If I hadn't called I would've showed up ready to train only for them not to know who I am or worse tell me right then that this is all fake. How do you let it get so far that these scammers are able to make believable ads, job listings, pictures, and accounts WITH YOUR COMPANY'S REPUTABLE NAME AND BRAND. I'm sorry someone is doing this to your business, but there's no excuse for you not to address it publicly. read more

Holy flowers! With Valentine's only a few weeks away, Garden Gate, which is smack in the middle of Uptown, is one of the better suppliers out there. Sitting in a Victorian-styled house near the Gingerman, "Junior" (the owner of this floral joint) has bundles upon bundles of some of the freshest flowers in Dallas. Garden Gate is always fully stocked up with gorgeous peonies, gerber daisies, hydrangeas; you name it, Junior most likely has it. Oh, and a big bonus? Completely affordable. The staff is trained to create something beautiful within your price range. Sometimes I like to go in there just to stand and sigh. Don't ever let a girl tell you she "doesn't like" getting flowers. It's all of our Achilles' heel. Men, try venturing here for your next bouquet purchase. Junior is a dream to work with! Garden Gate did all of the flowers for my wedding at the Dallas Museum of Art almost 3 years ago, and I didn't really know what I wanted. I don't know much about flowers beyond roses, but Junior showed me photos from past events at our location and determined what I liked and what I didn't like--I told him the mood I wanted (classy for ceremony, vibrant and fun for the reception), and the rest was a beautiful surprise. He also suggested the ceremony setup (outside facing one of the modern sculptures around the reflecting pool) and helped pick the table linens, making our wedding picture-perfect. At first I thought the order was Incorrect all because I received a picture of the flowers covered in plastic. I then called the florist and Maria called me back immediately to inform me that the flowers we're packaged a certain way for delivery. She suggested that I ask the recipient to take a picture after she unwrapped the flowers. Overall satisfied with my wedding flowers, but not happy with the service. All of my flowers were gorgeous except for the bridesmaid bouquets, which were exactly what I said I did not want. However, I'm surprised there weren't more things wrong, given the fact that Junior was incredibly rude, difficult to work with, and didn't seem to care one bit about my vision or what I wanted. Rather than trying to make my vision a reality, he argued with me and snapped at me at every turn. I left one meeting in tears because he basically told me that the flowers I wanted were ugly, snapped at my mother multiple times, and spent a good 15 minutes giving me a completely unsolicited lecture about why the cake that I picked out was ugly and showing me pictures of cakes that he thought were better. This was 2 months before my wedding, so way too late to change the cake. Although, I didn't want to change the cake. I loved my cake and it was gorgeous. I wanted to change my florist. Unfortunately it was too late for that as well. When we were shopping for florists, I met with a different woman who seemed to love my vision and was very kind and encouraging. She was also cheaper. I wanted to go with her, but my mom convinced me to go with Junior because he was "more of an artist." Now I always tell engaged couples to look for people you want to work with just as much as you look at their products and services. You have to spend a whole year with them, so you should pick people who are kind and are pleasant to be around. This is a tough review to write, because the first 2 meetings with Junior were great. He is incredibly talented and creative, and he spent well over an hour discussing our wedding. His pricing is extremely reasonable, and he had great suggestions for all aspects of our wedding. I was extremely excited to work with him. About 6 weeks before our wedding (after we made our final payment) things started to go off the rails. I sent two emails and made two phone calls to discuss the flowers for our cake - I never got any response from Junior or his staff. The flowers on the cake looked like a bad cartoon image of what I had sent him via email. I was extremely embarrassed by the way it looked. My mother in law passed away unexpectedly three weeks before our wedding, and I called Junior THREE times to discuss the change in situation. I definitely did not want him to show up on the day of with her flowers (seeing her bouquet would be a painful reminder of her absence), and we were considering having memorial flowers for her during the ceremony. He never even bothered to call back, even after I made the situation clear to the woman that answered the phone. Not only is this terrible service, but I felt that it was incredibly insensitive. Long story short - we didn't have any memorial flowers during our ceremony. Lastly was the bridal bouquet. He sent me a picture the day before and it looked great. On the day of the wedding, the flowers had turned pretty brown. Also, in real life it looked like a kid had glued a bunch of gardenias to a paper plate. There was no depth or shape at all. I'm hoping that it looks ok in my professional photos... in real life it was terribly disappointing. read more

Junior's floral arrangements at our wedding took my breath away. They were even more stunning than we what we had hoped for. My husband calls Junior a "savant" when it comes to flowers! Everyone raved about them! Junior really went above and beyond to help us have our dream wedding. He is incredibly knowledgeable and even collaborated with the Arboretum to come up with a creative layout that allowed all of our 352 guests to be seated inside (the Arboretum originally said that wasn't possible). Then I tell them I will just look online real quick and find something else I like. They tell me that they really can't make anything offered on their website, yet they don't remove the photos. We hired Junior for our wedding and I'm not sure why everyone else had such a great experience with him and why we did not; it makes me a little upset that we didn't get the same treatment everyone else did. For our first meeting, he was about 30 minutes late. He was rude to my husband and they got off on the wrong foot and we wish we would have just left right then, but a close family member highly recommended him so we went ahead. After we were all set, I emailed him about a month or so before the wedding and never got a response. Emailed again and never got a response. Called and only got a call back after my husband called asking what the deal was. On our wedding day, everything looked great except for two things: Junior called me the day of my wedding to tell me he couldn't get the hops we were supposed to have for a garland on the bar (my husband works at a brewery, so we were excited about this). One: don't call a bride on her wedding day to tell her you didn't do something you were supposed to. Just don't. Two: if we had any notice at all we could have gotten them elsewhere. Three: Junior fowarded us an email from his distributor weeks before about fresh hops being available! Second mess up was that we were supposed to have fall colored leaves and petals for our guests to throw as we left and they just weren't there. Junior said it was a misunderstanding, however, I had emailed him (ahem, see above) AND called him about this one specific thing in the month before our wedding. I was one of the most laid-back, easy brides to deal with (admitted by Junior even), so I don't know if he just felt like it didn't matter if he messed up or what, but we were pretty unhappy with his service. I will say that the flowers that did make it there were beautiful, but it was definitely not worth the lack of communication and not getting everything we were supposed to have. read more

Junior did a fantastic job on our rehearsal dinner, bridal tea, and wedding. His body flowers were exquisite, he custom-made crowns for my flower girls, and he designed a display table from scratch for our macaroon dessert station. I can't say enough good things. I attended the Hockaday 100th Celebration over this past weekend and am still in awe of the magnitude and grandeur of the entire event!!!! Everything was absolutely over the top and wonderful. Walking into the event area I was blown away by the stunning floral displays and actually made a joke to our friends that I bet Junior did all this. Shouldn't be surprised that just a little later I learned that yes, in fact, Junior of Garden Gate had indeed designed and provided all the florals for all the events for the celebration. He has really outdone himself this time----everyone I talked to that evening commented on just how gorgeous the florals were. I ordered flowers from The Garden Gate for a wedding shower being thrown in Dallas, I live in Austin. By the time I drove to Dallas, they had delivered the flowers to the home where the shower was being thrown. They were prompt, and the flowers were beautiful, just like I imagined. They worked with me on the Texas cowgirl theme over the phone and the arrangement couldn't have been better with lots of beautiful yellows and a wonderful bark covered vase. Garden Gate (Junior) was highly recommended to us by our wedding planner as well as the manager of our reception venue. I called 5 times over a six-week period to get on the appointment schedule, but the person who schedules appointments was never there, never contacted us or called back. I also sent through an email request for an appointment. Every time I called I got a different person telling me they're so sorry and that someone would get back to me. (even gave me specific day/time they would call) Still, nothing. I guess they are so good, they don't have time to return a phone call, or need our business. Very disappointing. read more
