Last time I wrote a review for here I was not a homeowner. Now I've been one for over 12 years and…read moreI've been here many times over for goodies for my yard, gifts, treats for myself, etc, and it's become one of my favorite places in town so I figured I should finally give them good update! No matter the time of year I love visiting Downtown Home & Garden. My previous review stated, "I love any store where I can get tulip bulbs, a new bird house, a winter hat shaped like a Christmas tree, a new cookie sheet and a loaf of Zingerman's bread" and all that still rings true. But these days I also add national parks merch, gear for my dogs, holiday decor, kitchen gadgets and cookbooks and, perhaps most exciting for a Polish broad like myself, a variety of Polish pottery pieces. In the spring and summer months I can be found perusing peony bulbs for my garden, hummingbird feeders, bird seed and squirrel proof bird feeders, planters, plants/starters for my veggie garden, pest control and fertilizers, plus a variety of lawn decor and sculpture pieces, etc. Some things can be kind of pricey but you truly get what you pay for. Even after years out in the elements everything I've bought for my yard here is still in amazing condition, my plants from here always yield the most delicious fruits and veggies, and the little birdies are so happy with the snacks we provide them from their bins.

Interesting store that is probably really good if you're a suburban homeowner. I continue to go back because they do have some really fun items to look at, but if you want to purchase anything that is heavy or you need assistance with good luck, finding someone to help. Also, I once saw something on a reel about how they will have one item with multiple prices and it's true! I was purchasing an end table and one of them was priced $10 higher than the other. I grabbed the one with the lower sticker and when I asked the employee about it, she had no idea what I was talking about

WOAH WOAH WOAH. How had I never been to an At Home store before yesterday?? I'm not entirely sure…read morebut in some ways it's a good thing because I would have spent way too much time of my youth going up and down their aisles. So, yesterday I was next door at Duluth stocking up on some hot new overalls and decided to pop in to At Home because I need a few new garden decor thingys to replace some stuff that (after nearly a decade!) I've had to retire. 3 hours later I left with a cart full of garden gnomes, plant stands, a new patio umbrella, a small outdoor mat, and metal garden stakes. I also walked every aisle, and made mental notes to return for some organizing things once I have my office redo finished. The price points feel a little steep for some of the items, and they didn't have particularly deep markdowns but i'd say the prices are about on par, if not a bit less than, Homegoods. But the sheer volume of options they carry makes up for it. When I walked in I said "Oh my God" because the store is HUGE. They easily had 8 rows of just lawn figurines and the aforementioned metal signs. I said to my mom, "it's not just that they have a lot of stuff they have a lot of variety in each item of stuff." So, not just a handful of patio cushions but multiple rows dedicated to several different styles and patterns. At least 4 aisles of just REALLY BIG planter pots. Halloween and Christmas already had a bit of a showing and honestly, I wasn't even mad because the place is so huge it just feels like they should keep those displays up all the time because they've got the space for it. Now that I've gotten my bearings I don't think i'll need quite as many hours to visit (i don't think I'll need another walk through the picture frames or oversized candelabras anytime soon) but who knows. Now that I've been once I can't wait to see what they have in store (literally and figuartively) for peak holiday time!

She just finished putting together her Yelp friendly photo opp area. She told me how excited she was as she took pictures of her handiwork and sent them quickly in a text. I perused the rows of everything from cacti to ferns, trying to find that perfect gift. If you ever thought for a moment that you don't have the green thumb to sustain life, then an air plant might be right up your alley. The air plant display was aggressive and it allowed a range of sizes from pinky to fist and larger. Not only. Would you find the care instructions on the wall, but there were paper copies to take too. Apparently it's harder than it looks. Plants dotted the windows overlooking the neighboring business and cars that passed. Broad leaves hung boldly overhead and little potted delights sat whimsical on tiny shelves. The whole scene just cried out for a nearby cafe with proximal seating to all this beauty. This is not a bargain shop. It's a little quirky mom and pop with a slim profit margin. Even in paying a bit more, have pride that you are buying local and supporting a small business. Viva The Plant House!
