Ordered takeout and got an avocado toast. I did want some utensils and napkins but it did not come in my bag even though I did request that. They had napkins by the counter so I did grab some but still no plastic utensils. They had cute decor and it was semi busy. I will be back again to try other items on the menu. The French Press is located in a little strip mall The french press coffee was good and kind of a unique experience, which is somewhat expected given that it's their namesake. We were so excited to see their various baked goods and extended coffee menu! Food & drinks were ready within 10 mins. My raspberry scone & banana chocolate crumb cake were yummy and went very well with my creamy, flavorful hot dirty chai. The chocolate croissant was not like a typical croissant - didn't have layers in the pastry. But the restaurant filled it with lots of creamy chocolate inside. If you liked chocolate or had a sweet tooth, you would be very pleased! Hubby ordered the French Country Scrambler. The size was perfect. The sausage and scrambled egg tasted really good together. The potato were okay - could be more crispy with more seasoning. The other thing was that it was served warm, not as what we expected (a hot breakfast). The cold brew was on the light, berry and fruity side. If you are looking for bold, strong and heavy-body cold brew, this may not satisfy your expectations. The restaurant got busy after 8:15AM. The food here can be a bit hit-or-miss. I have generally had pretty good experiences dining here, but I have had dining companions that have ended up with food that was cold, not prepared correctly, etc. I don't know if I am just lucky, or if my dining companions have been unlucky. I should also note that I tend to avoid the busiest times of the day here, as service can really drag. They only have one register, and you have to order before you sit down. Great atmosphere definitely want to try other things but meatloaf sandwich was not even close to as good as my mom's and can't remember what I had the second time I visited during my weekend visit so must have not been too bad but also just okay. The Atmosphere was extremely inviting family friendly but also very cozy coffee shop vibe. The French Press is a cute little coffee shop on the south side of Eau Claire that serves not only coffee but breakfast and lunch too. I've been here a handful of times and have only had the espressos and breakfast. There are actually quite a lot of tables for seating but due to Covid they have every other table marked off with a big X as not available. When you walk in, you are greeted by the big black chalkboard menu, then you order what you want and get a little ticket. They have so many choices, I know the first few times here the food wasn't all that, but I love trying multiple things on the menu and coming in several times before I come up with my reviews. For this specific experience, the staff was kind and friendly, but I didn't enjoy my meal as much - the breakfast potatoes were really dry and almost crusty, they were also over seasoned with Rosemary or Thyme. I do really want to try the Parmesan Rissoto, I hear that is super yummy! Don't think I would order what I had again but I'm open to trying the entire menu. We love brekkie and brunch!!!!!! All the drinks I've ever gotten here, I've enjoyed. This time I had a Breve in mocha flavor. It was just the right amount. The drink in the tall cup is called a monkey drink. You must pick up your coffee at the coffee window, but wasn't told that so didn't get my pumpkin cold brew until on the way out the door. Drink was delicious though! I had one lemon ricotta pancake, regular order was three, and huge! Comes with whipped cream and berries on top. A nice change but left my socks on. Bacon was pre cooked and not hot, or even warm. Roasted potatoes were yummy, but also not warm. Hubby had french toast that was good. We aren't from the area, and needed some decent coffee and a gluten free option for food. We saw that a choice of gluten free muffins were available here, and decided to give it a try based on other reviews. We stopped in and placed a to-go order for three coffee drinks, and also a gluten free blueberry muffin and an almond croissant. The muffin was fair. It was heated up by either a microwave or toaster oven, even though we didn't request it. Not sure if that's the case because it was frozen or refrigerated, but it definitely was not freshly baked. The almond croissant was disappointing. Sadly, bottom ranked of the croissants I've had. It was very small, skinny crescent shape. There were larger more uniform croissants in the baked goods window and that was probably the ugly duckling of them all. They should've just discarded it when it was baked. It had no buttery flakiness you expect from a croissant. It was laminated on the outside of it, but it was VERY dense and dry. More like a dry biscuit. Didn't seem freshly baked. On to the drinks. The first drink was an iced latte. The second was one of their fall drinks, the brown sugar oat milk latte. The third drink was an iced latte sweetened with honey. Overall, the espresso's flavor was good, a basic medium roast espresso flavor. Didn't have that "burnt" taste like some smaller cafes have. Unfortunately, the honey iced latte tasted like a plain latte. Could not taste the honey at all. I don't think the barista mixed the honey into the espresso well enough or at all. Overall, this place is decent. It looked like their kitchen items and other bakery items are what they're more known for. You get your own silverware and water, but that's alright. They buss your table. We got some bakery to go. The monster cookies are amazing, haven't tried the sticky buns we picked up. We had pulled into Eau Claire with a bit of time to kill. We had to drop off my boyfriend's brother to catch a bus to the Minneapolis airport before we continued on our trip home from the Northwoods to Kentucky. And happily, Yelp pointed us to The French Press, which satisfied our needs and provided a delightful, caffeinated respite before getting back on the road. The French Press has breakfast delicacies and lunch sandwiches, along with house-made pastries and coffee drinks. I ordered a breakfast sandwich, which is made with two eggs, sausage and cheese. The bread looked like ciabatta, and the sandwich came with a cantaloupe wedge. It was filling and not greasy at all -- the downfall of most other breakfast sandwiches. And even though it was larger than the sandwiches you might find at, say, McD's, it didn't sit in the bottom of my stomach like a stack of bricks. All in all, it was a great breakfast. I also got a homemade Oreo. How could I not get a homemade Oreo?!?!? This cookie sandwich was larger than a typical Oreo, as you would hope. The French Press nailed the cream. The cookie part wasn't exactly like an Oreo, but I dare say it was better. It was dark and chocolate-y without being overly rich. I also got coffee, which hit the spot.
