Definitely the worst experience I've ever had with a bike store. Long story short, brought my beloved bike in after calling around for the best place to fix it, they gladly took my deposit, but could not fix the bike. Wanted money for the parts they could not get to work. The owner said they could fix my bike, could not, put it on the back burner - didn't call me once (took a month) then wanted to charge me. I've been in Albany for quite some time now, but I've never heard of this place until I was referred to it by another cyclist. When I arrived at the Freeform the two associates that were working that day were extremely polite and helpful. I came in there looking for a clip ( a 2pins JST male clip) for my eScooter battery. Now prior too my arrival at the bike shop, I've been to many places throughout the capital District, looking for this piece, but to no avail. So naturally coming in to the bike shop, I thought that they would not have it as well. However, I was wrong! They not only had the clip that I was looking for but also the gentleman who assisted me (which I did not get his name, but I will get his name when I go back over there in the near future for some brake work, possibly,) he gave me two of the clips at no cost, which I thought was a great thing he did! (being that I myself also being that I work in customer service! as well,) I thought myself when he handed me the clip always make sure the customer is happy at the end of the transaction. It was my first time in the shop, and for him to do such a deed just shows the great level of customer service that he and the shop has to offer. initially, my idea was to just purchase a clip myself and hoped that would be an easy find and I will be in there with my scooter riding off in the sunset. Lol but no, it was actually a nightmare trying to find it out in the capital District, When I've done the research on the clip in the beginning, and I we're going to buy a clip myself, the clip actually is sold in bulk (i.e a 20x pack of them) for the most part at a very cheap price about $3 on Temu. Or if not then for about 8-10 dollars for one piece which is ridiculous! I only needed one clip because I'm no wholesaler lol. So to finally come to this bike shop and not only find the piece I'm looking for, but also have them just give me a couple of pieces for free speaks volumes! With all that said, I would most highly recommend this bike shop to any traditional bicyclist or eBike/eScooter riders out there! Definitely pay them a visit if your in the area! Fast, well priced, and friendly service for my ebike. Super happy with my new freewheel, brakes and tune up. This shop will be my go-to now.

Matt provides fast and efficient at his shop. The only draw back if any is the stairs up to the shop.

A friend suggested The Freewheel after I gripped about a nearby shop telling me they would have to hold onto my bike for 3 weeks before they could get to it for a basic tune up. I emailed Freewheel last Thursday, Matt emailed me back the next day, set up a drop off for Monday and I got my bike back just four days later. Service was significantly less expensive the Main Street guys and Matt was responsive and knowledgeable. They tuned up my bike great and told me it was in fine shape (rather than try to sell me something, which was different than my experience with the Main Street guys). I look forward to being a regular Freewheel customer in the future. I can't say enough good things about them. read more

Got a flat and brought tire into Freewheel. Very welcoming staff; they took my tire right away, determined that the tube had been pierced, had the tube in stock and made the repair in 5 minutes. Price for labor and parts was about $22 and I was on my way. I was expecting to have to drop the tire off and come back so I was very please with the on the spot repair. read more

My friend took my bike to Matt to get fixed. He fixed it within 30 minutes and charged under $25.00.. very fast and friendly service

I drove 6 hours (rt) to test and buy a Himiway Escape at FreeWheel and couldn't have been more pleased with the expert advice I received not just about the bike but also the various accessories and a solid and less expensive alternative to the Himiway rack. Matt, the owner, made his sale for me because of his knowledge share, because of his patience and willingness to answer questions, and his friendly non-pushy approach. I wasn't sure that I wanted to spend almost $2k on the bike and accessories. It took me a while talking to Matt (plus the demo ride) to help me feel I was making the right decision. The bike is great, and I didn't have to assemble it or pay someone to do it (as would be the case if I had ordered it online). Matt did some minor tweaking before I left and adjusted the pedal assist levels to fit my comfort zone on acceleration. Other pluses include (1) the discount Matt gave me when I asked what he would do in response to a current Himiway online promotion, and (2) several rapid response texts the next day answering some of my questions. Because of the superb reception at FreeWheel, the 6 hour roundtrip to and from my home in VT was one of the better decisions I have made in my life. read more

Had a flat tire and wanted the entire tube and tire switched out. I am a disabled vet and do not have vehicle aside from bike at moment so was happy to see that their was someone in Albany who would come to your house and fix your bike. I had no problem paying an extra fee for this convenience but person I spoke with after about 20 minutes of finally getting a time down to work on the bike said it wasnt worth their time to come to my house just for a tire. Would not accept extra money for inconvenience. Very disappointing. You would think a company that puts "Getting your bike to work should be quite easy. Minor maintenance, major repairs, total upgrades - we'll do (almost) anything as long as it helps you ride a bike." would be more helpful or considerate. Was more than willing to give them $70 just for the convenience. So now I am stuck trying to figure out how to a shop. Thanks Freewheel. It absolutely amazes me that this place advertises itself as a mobile bike repair shop but only is mobile for a couple hours a day and not when people need them. Despite the website calendar showing them free all day today they still could do nothing until Monday. Just went to CK Cycles on Saturday. read more
