On first impression, this is a decent, well-presented pub. However, on a cold autumn evening, they could have turned up the heat somewhat.
The ale was good, if a little over-priced.
We stopped for food and studied the rather pretentious and expensive menu, ordering what we expected to be hearty fayre. What we received was bland food in average sized portions. The pasta in sauce with mushrooms etc. had very little pasta and the thin watery sauce could well have been watered down mushroom soup out of a tin. I tried the local sausage with mustard mash and onion marmalade. It was served in a sea of gravy with no veg. A teaspoonful of onion marmalade adorned a mountain of mash mixed with wholegrain mustard which added little to the flavour. The saving grace was the sausage which was superb.
All this whilst conversation is drowned out by overly loud pop music is pumped through the speakers hidden away in the corners of the room.
If you don't mind paying over the odds for average food, this may be for you; the rest of us would drive a litlle further and find a pub with good hearty tucker. read more
