The Red Lion at Little Tingewick is a pretty, thatched pub, which was a farmhouse until 1816. It has many of is its original features have been beautifully restored including an open fire, low ceilings and oak beams. It is a Fullers pub and has good beers, good food and wine. Starters cost £5-9 and favourites include: a very substantial prawn cocktail and smoked salmon terrine £7.50, mushrooms on toast £5.95; black pudding with crispy pancetta, tomato and poached egg breakfast salad £6.95; deep fried battered goat's cheese with Cumberland sauce £6.75. Mains range from £8-18 and include some cheaper traditional pub favourites like, ham egg and chips or sausage and mash for under £10 to some fancier restaurant class dishes including: Padbury 8oz sirloin with fat chips, salad garnish and grilled tomato £16.95; chicken breast with sausage and thyme stuffing, gratin potato and French style peas £13.95; braised & glazed lamb shank with winter vegetables and champ mash £15.75; smoked haddock and pea risotto with rocket £12.95; butternut squash and blue cheese risotto with deep fried courgettes £11.50. There are usually some home-made burgers and a good selection of fish dishes. The puddings are nice too, but I'm particularly fond of the cheese board which has a good selection of cheeses and is big enough to serve two. The staff are friendly and helpful. There is a reasonable sized car park and beer garden to the rear, and plenty of additional parking on the quiet road outside. I've eaten, and drunk, here several times and I've never been disappointed, highly recommended.Revisited to see how things were. The staff were OK, but the food was very disappointing. Some how everything, including the excellent looking chunky chips, thin sirloin and rib-eye steaks, were all bland. I initially thought it was simply under-seasoning of the meat, but whilst this helped it didn't fix the problem. This is a couple of average meals we've had here, so I'm down-grading my rating from 4 to 3 star. read more
