Nothing worth doing is easy and this goes for BJJ. The rewards are the people you meet and the knowledge you gain and share. It is very fullfilling. Additonally, for several hours a day, focusing on BJJ takes my mind off of any other problems that I have whether its a stressful job or a bad day in general. They say meditaton is good, well....bjj is great and gets you in shape too). At Bravé MMA, my training experience has been transformed under the expert guidance of Coach Kenny and his older brother, Coach KB, an MMA champion. Coach Kenny's deep knowledge and approachable style in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, combined with Coach KB's exceptional skill in boxing, BJJ and Muay Thai, create an unparalleled learning environment. Their commitment to each student's growth, whether in competitive spirit or skill development, is evident in every class. The gym's focus on safety, personalized training, and fostering a positive, supportive atmosphere sets it apart, in my opinion. Unlike my previous gym experience, Brave MMA emphasizes skill and personal development over a transactional, attendance-based approach. This nurturing environment, where challenges are met with encouragement and individual strengths are honed, makes Bravé MMA a unique and rewarding place for anyone passionate about martial arts. Instead of communicating professionally or trying to resolve the issue, they decided to withdraw my kids from the program immediately. This reaction showed a lack of professionalism and poor management. Being a student, a helper, a junior instructor with the leadership team & my final journey as instructor with my dear friend Jessica. Even when I retired, it has always been in my heart - I can still recall my self-defense, some of my poomsae's, step defense, board/brick breaking, life lessons & the cherished relationships I've made. I must stress the importance of my training as I unfortunately in my life found myself in a very scary violent domestic violence relationship. I truly do feel that my taekwondo training possibly saved my life, I believe in multiple situations I found myself in - it detoured him from the volatile confrontation turning into a very real scary physical one from happening. It also gave me the confidence to stand up for myself & create a 'safe plan' to leave this toxic relationship... now that I have my son I cant stress the importance of self-defense. I brought my son & nephew for their first class & it was a very heart melting moment for me as I watched my beloved head master Derek Sadler tie my son's & my nephews white belt for their first class. As he did mine many years ago. There is no doubt in my mind my son & nephew are is great hands. I'm looking forward to watching their journey & watching many more belts being tied. Earlier this summer, I enrolled my 10 year old and 4 year old daughters in Professor Andrew's Brazilian jiu-jitsu class at Arashi Do Whyte. I thought if I wasn't going to take any classes, at least my daughters could try it. After a month of watching my daughters grapple, I had to try it and I'm happy I did! Professor Andrew and his students made me feel welcome from the moment I stepped through the door. There were no "tough guys" with attitudes looking for a fight, just a bunch of people wanting to learn Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Professor Andrew teaches the Behring Progressive System and is extremely knowledgeable and is also a very effective teacher. He's excellent with the kids and uses humour as a teaching tool. He also uses humour in the adult classes...but it's a bit different! If you're looking for a quality jiu-jitsu instructor, you couldn't go wrong with Professor Andrew. Highly recommended!

It is a welcoming and fun environment where everyone is encouraged to push themselves as far as they want to go. There is no drama, no "buy-in" or cult-like reverence to the gym and its ways. Simply put, there is no nonsense. Andrew is an incredible instructor. He not only understands his art and how to apply it, but he knows how to break it down into a science that applies for everyone. Regardless of your size, age, strengths or gender, you will be well coached in how to make the art your own. The facilities are decent. They aren't the biggest or newest in the city, but they don't detract from the product offered. All in all, I highly recommend you check out Method BJJ and take a class. You will not regret it.

The little hand towels they provide on the bikes at the start of every class also helps reduce my laundry load at the end of the week haha :D Sadly the couple instructors I had the privilege of riding with are moving on from the studio or on vacation for an extended period, but I look forward to riding with different instructors and figuring out whose pace and energy I jive with :) Also! I really appreciated the opportunity to be able to participate in the February limited-time offer for earning some extra rides! I was surprised that he jumped right into teaching flips and falls for the introductory class at the open house - impressive! Parking is limited (Riel Industrial) but not impossible - be sure to park in the allowed areas. I like how the big roll up industrial doors allow for lots of fresh air and light in the dojo - and the mesh netting to keep out bugs is a nice touch. Stephane, their instructor was absolutely fantastic with the kids! He showed them breathing techniques and got their blood pumping by showing them how to fall properly ,holds and grappling maneuvers. They even had a little grappling session at the end of the class! Even though there was only eight kids in this particular session, Stephane had another instructor there as well, to help out with not only the demonstrations, but also so all the kids got some nice individual attention. Both Stephane and his colleague (I am so sorry that I didn't catch his name) had a wonderful demeanour to them and they treated all the kids with respect and in turn, they seemed to treat their instructors the same way back. We liked the atmosphere so much that we signed up both of our rugrats for two months and they were both ecstatic! We'll see if they keep up the interest in their lessons come November.
