I always forget that spin class is like hot yoga: bring an extra pair of shorts & be prepared to sweat to death! XD I think this place counts as the second spin studio I've visited, and I like that they still have the flashing disco light show, timed songs playlist, and super energetic spin instructor to pump it up! It's pleasant to know that a good portion of the people there are regulars and both regular riders and the staff are willing to offer their assistance to setup your bike appropriately for a great ride. The little hand towels they provide on the bikes at the start of every class also helps reduce my laundry load at the end of the week haha :D Sadly the couple instructors I had the privilege of riding with are moving on from the studio or on vacation for an extended period, but I look forward to riding with different instructors and figuring out whose pace and energy I jive with :) Also! I really appreciated the opportunity to be able to participate in the February limited-time offer for earning some extra rides! I brought my friend and we both earned some free rides, and although sore from her first time in a while, really enjoyed the space and energy brought by the other riders and staff! Came to Tru Ride again and had an absolute blast! The studio was open and cool! Four rows of bikes on tiers in a LED candle lit room! They have a Q water bar and offer coconut water! All bikes were equipped with shoe cages and optional clips for cycle shoes. Each bike had space to hold your water bottle, phone, and a meter tracking both distance and RPM. It was so great to get back on a spin bike and I couldn't have dreamed up a more inviting atmosphere or instructor! Everybody I was telling I was coming here told me they had done a spin class before and it was "meh" I came with very lowered expectations Samson top 3 Stats 1. Hates Cardio 2. Bench presses 300 lbs 3. Hates Cardio So, let me say when I give it a 5 star review it's not based on anything but the fact that Tru Ride took a gym rat like me a turned me into a Tru Believer. Here's why I like it. Most gyms will offer a spin class, I even have a spin bike in my Condo gym. It's not about the equipment. It's about the whole Tru experience. And gentle readers, don't just gag and say, "whatever". The experience begins at the front desk, it's cool and not intimidating . The whole studio is very novice friendly. And it has it's own fancy water bar! Free! I love fancy water if I don't pay for it. The whole experience is about the actual spin experience, and I'll tell you about it. It's awesome. Spin here is a cool, classy , mind blowing experience. The lights are turned low, the music is pumping and the instructors are great. The best way to describe the difference between the Tru Ride experience and the free class you get at your gym is this. Have you ever turned down the lights in your house , and just blasted the tunes , maybe danced around like an idiot? I have. And that's what the experience here was like. I felt like I had my own personal fitness instructor, playing fun music, and all i had to do was pedal. It's about time to update my review... I have now been going to Truride since April 2015. I love it... Scenario; You wake up to an annoying alarm clock, looking for the snooze button wishing you could squeeze in 5 more mins of sleep but you can't because you can't be late for work... Well think about waking up pumped and you don't want to take that 5 mins of sleep because why would you want too??? This is what happens to me on the weekends. For some odd reason I just love waking up early in the morning just to have that 1 hour Spin class that starts my day (weekend) amazingly. If work could be as motivating as Spin... I can only review the instructors that I have been seeing, I love these instructors they push you until you think you can't go on but... You do... Randy is very Intense. His classes contain a lot of isometrics on the quads and balance (core). Doing his class means this is my leg day because I leave with rubber legs and can't walk for the next 2. Love it! Ange is Fabulous. Her class can range from endurance to heavy resistance. She does some isolation as well. Her classes can be challenging but completely worth it. She chooses music that fits the workout well and it helps keep the beat with your push. It is just a good time at every class and you feel great after. I Love it! Dana is Magnificent. Her class is hills and endurance, to tell you the truth I'm not sure how to explain her class but it's incredibly fun, motivating and for some reason you don't even notice how high your resistant is, you just end up sweating A LOT. I Love it! You know there is that gateway drug, well this is should be a gateway fitness. I'm serious. Since I started here I've been more motivated to do more (fitness wise). You feel like you want to push your body to the limit. This is the most fun Cardio workout that burns your calories easy. I mean I love dancing but you are not going to burn off that pizza and wine with just dancing (zumba or something). I took my boyfriend here (who is a heavy weightlifter and was a bit skeptical). We both REALLY enjoyed ourself; preconceptions were dashed--now he wants to sign up for the two-week unlimited trial (only $40)! The experience really does start upon entry. The staff is extremely friendly; the whole place is trendy. High ceilings, custom lighting fixtures, candles lit and... FREE Q WATER (which is basically fancy filtered water, run through carbon filters to reduce particles of sand, silt and rust, with reduced chlorine taste, organic chemicals, lead and odours associated with tap water). The studio itself is gorgeous. Tiered so everyone can see the instructor. Large fans blowing. The whole experience was relaxed, comfortable, and beginner-friendly. The instructor came around and made sure everyone's bike was adjusted properly--this is a comfort to spin novices! My favourite part was that they turn the studio lighting down really low (like a movie theatre!). This makes the experience more relaxed and private; no one is looking around at each other, you are just spinning and tuned into the experience. The music was upbeat and the instructor was energetic. If you are looking for a great place to get your cardio fit on Tru Ride may be the place for you. This place is pretty swanky. With mood lighting and stylish decor in the in the main entrance. Change room is bright and spacious. There are several private showers but unfortunately no lockers. So just be sure to leave your valuables at home or in your car. The bike studio has three tiers full of bikes. The bikes are really comfortable with lots of adjustable points to get the bike to suit you the way you like. I am a sweaty person so the only problem I had with the bike is that my hands would slip a bit on the hand grip. It would be nice if the handle bars had a texture to grab on to, or some soft foam. But no biggie. I just used the towel that was provided to keep wiping down the handles. The studio is pretty dark and is only lit up by led candles which was pretty cool. They keep the a.c. cranked during the workout. The music was pumping. And the instructor was highly motivational throughout the workout. Overall Id say if your a cardio junky this place would be great for you. read more

Super nice place for spinning! It looks very modern, bicycles look new, there is lots of space in the spinning room, really nice washrooms, everything was great! It was my first time there and I totally loved it! The instructor will help you setup your bike according to your legs and arm length so you feel comfortable and have the best workout. Bikes have space to hold your water bottle, which you definitely want to have close by ;) There is some space where to leave your stuff but unfortunately there are no lockers, I'm glad I didn't bring my wallet with me that day. I haven't been here in a while. It's a ways from home, but friends were going and I'm a social rider! The class has stayed Tru to itself, and hasn't changed a lot from my last time. All my pros and cons still hold from my last experience at this facility. The facility is still clean, modern and lovely and the staff are helpful. Q Water is available on site, and they have an array of logo'd items for people to buy, and all of them are super cute! My downside is still the dimness of the room. I could barely see my gauge on the bike for the RPMs, and had to keep pressing the button to light up the screen, which breaks concentration from the activity. And forget about being able to see the gauge standing up, that's not happening. The instructor, though, was high energy, enthusiastic and encouraged interaction! The facility has a first ride free offer, and 2 weeks for $40. If you like, or want to try spin, give them a go! A lot of people really liked the dim lighting. I wasn't one of them, but you might be! This was my second time here, such a positive experience both times. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, positive and uplifting a tru-ly great experience. The seat is literally and figuratively the hardest thing to get use to. The owner Dana is such an amazing person. When my wife and I went there a year ago we had an amazing conservation after our workout. The studio is an extension of who she tru-ly is. When I went there today, she recognized me, remembered our conversations, and even remembered my wife's (Tineke) name. I really like the atmosphere at Tru Ride -- the design, the low lighting, the grapefruit(?) scent, and the Q water bar really offered a different experience than your average gym spin class. To some people these things don't really matter but to me they made the prospect of spinning for an hour much more inviting. The instructor Dana was really encouraging and upbeat and I liked the music she played. I look forward to returning and trying the other instructors. I thought it was bit strange they don't have locking lockers. I do like that they have an app so its super easy to reserve a bike, see how many classes you have remaining on your pass, etc. read more

Tru Ride was my first spin experience and after checking out their awesome website and learning about the candle lit room and rocking tunes, I was excited. The place is a beautiful boutique studio that I would literally love to live in. There is such a special, comfortable yet energizing vibe in there. The attention to detail to the experience is fantastic from the grapefruit scented candles (that you can purchase), to the colours and accents, inspirational quotes on the wall (sweating is sexy!), welcoming and encouraging staff, supplies in the washroom (super fantastic when you forget your bobby pins and you don't want sweaty bangs in your face) and more. The instructor was Karma (what? seriously, how awesome is that) and she was a doll in helping me set up my bike (who knew how many things could be adjusted from height to how far back your seat is and more) and sharing with me what I could expect. I like feeling in the know and for a first timer, that was fantastic for me. It was a good workout and I feel like you could really go at your own pace as needed - sure, Karma was there to push us but you're really there for yourself. And with great music and fans to keep you cool, it was fun. The overall experience was fantastic - thus the 5 stars. I loved the space, loved the people, loved the experience. I'm not sure if I love cycling - but that's separate from this review. I'll definitely try it again as I think it's so important to try things multiple times. I was able to ride the entire time though, which made me feel awesome. Although for me, I found the ride hard... It's not the studio's fault that my feet went numb (they're still swollen from travelling last weekend... oh cankles). And that I couldn't feel my butt and spent much of the class wondering if I should use the provided hand towel as a buffer between the seat and my butt. And when you lose all feeling "down there", you really struggle to identify if you're peeing yourself, which would be a terrible first impression for my classmates and instructor. The pre-cycle snack of ice cream and hot wing chips probably wasn't my best plan though either. But I definitely think following the workout with a protein shake and cheesies was a win as it will help grow my butt so I can have added padding for the seat for next time! read more

I've only been here once and that was back in August, however, my experience was really good! I met Dana right away as she was manning the front desk, along with her husband. Both were super nice and welcoming. The studio space couldn't be better - with Q Water, towels, comfy bench seating, and clean washrooms. The spinning studio is perfectly dim and the quality of the sound system really blows you away! I love that she's branded everything tastefully and appropriately too! If you're new to the studio, and want to try it out, there is a coupon code on her website for a free class! How awesome is that?! I only wish the studio was more central as it's a far drive for me. I have yet to check out Soul Spin in Sherwood Park, but I may have to since I think it's closer to me than Tru Ride is. In the meantime, I'll keep my fingers crossed that Dana decides to open up another studio downtown! read more

What a workout! I got a FitSet pass and tried out Tru Ride for my first class, and it was such a fun experience. This was my first spin class at a studio, and it was quite different than the spin classes I have done at the City of Edmonton rec centers. The studio is a little confusing to find, as it is located in the back of the World Health location on Gateway Boulevard. This is a good thing though, as signing up for a class gives you full access to the facilities at World Health, including the gym equipment. Clip-in shoes are available to rent at $2/class, and are a free rental for your first visit. I signed up for the class with my husband, and the staff were so welcoming. Our waivers were ready on the counter when we arrived, and the instructor took lots of time to help us adjust our bikes, explain the clip-in shoes and talk about what to expect during the class. I was put totally at ease and was very comfortable asking questions. The class itself was timed with loud dance club-style music, and was designed for you to keep beat pedaling to the music, with a focus on effort. My husband missed having the numbers for tension and RPM that we've seen on other spin bikes, but I liked this better, as I found it more enjoyable to keep beat rather than watching a number on a screen. Classes are dark, so no worries about feeling self conscious. Our instructor was high energy, encouraging and created a great atmosphere. I burned a ton of calories (according to my heart rate monitor) and had a good time - highly recommended! read more

Such a neat fitness class! I often shy away from group activities because you stand in front of a huge mirror with horrid florescent lights highlighting every part of you. Tru ride cycle studio fixes this by offering a full on spin class with the lighting of a calming yin yoga class. The room is nice and dim and candles turn the class into something magical. It almost feels as if you are cycling in a romantic movie scene. The class lets you choose your own resistance and the instructor I had was very motivational and kept a nice pace for beginners or vetran spinners. The studio itself if very nice with brand new change rooms and modern decor. There is also some kind of fancy filtered water if you forgot to fill you water bottle before you left. They were the first spin studio to open up in Edmonton - which was a good sign cause that means they know what they're doing. The spin classes take place inside a dimly lit room with candlelights. The room is quite spacious and has mirrors in front so you can watch yourself bike. The bikes are nicely spaced out around the room, all facing the front (tip: take the back row if you don't want people to see you struggle!). The music is loud and pumps you to spin to the beat. There are many different instructors (known as tru leaders), all of which have their own unique playlist. The online website has a nice little description of each tru leader's class type. My instructor for the night, Ange, was very knowledgeable. She gave us a quick rundown at the beginning of the class of how to adjust our bikes, change our resistance, and brake. The bikes have little harnesses for your feet so you can wear your own running shoes. The class itself was a great workout. I go to spin class weekly but I still found myself all biked out after. Tru Ride offers 4 different class types: balance, core, power, and ride. There's also a complimentary half hour spin school for newbies that can be booked. For amenities, there are well-kept changing rooms and showers. I was a bit disappointed to find out that lockers weren't offered though. There's also Q water and coconut water for riders. I'd say that Tru Ride is very welcoming to new riders so if you've been hesitant to try out spin, definitely check this spin studio out. Very clean and well organized space. I had never done spin before (but do cycle) and didn't get any help setting up the bike correctly. It was ok - but probably took longer than if the instructor had helped. The class was excellent - great workout and the music was perfect to help keep the pace. I love to hate spin class. Its very challenging but the feeling once you are done is euphoric. Instructor Randy is awesome and challenging. When it comes to working out, I can definitely count on getting a serious sweat on at Tru Ride cycle. This is a very cool studio with really friendly staff who genuinely care about their clients. The spin room is very unique with candles keeping just enough light to know what's going on but not enough light to see the giant puddle of sweat forming around your bike:) Also - nice change rooms, showers, complimentary shampoo and towel service. I loved my experience at Tru Ride. I was greeted warmly and welcomed as soon as I came in by the Owner who is an absolute doll! She has such a great vision for her company and where she wants to go. It is a gorgeous Spin Studio with incredible energy and honestly every little detail was very mindfully thought of right down to the grapefruit scented candle. I am not the biggest spin fan but the actual spin studio was very grounding due to being candlelit, which i very much liked. There were motivation quotes all over which made for an incredible feeling being there. Even though spin is not my favourite exercise, I felt amazing after and felt great about supporting an incredible woman who has an amazing dream and without a doubt she will be very successful! read more

I was a spin class newbie when I first came here. I always had seen spin classes and it looked like everyone wanted to die and that it was very unpleasant. Now I see that it may not be so bad after all. The studio is beautiful. Large change rooms with cubbies and hooks to hang your clothes. A nice big seating area with free water bar. The class is stadium style with lots of fans and ac to keep you cool. Towels are complimentary. I really liked the dim lighting because it helped you focus on the visualizations the instructor is leading you through and helps if your more self conscious because it just feels like no one can see you. The instructor went around and made sure everyone was fitted on the bikes properly and comfortable. The seats on these bikes always bother me and can really hurt the bum after awhile. And I didn't like that I couldn't see what tension I was at. It was all by feel and rpm which can be nice at times but I would like to see where my starting tension is at so I can push myself. They have a cute selection of clothing and headbands to purchase that are super comfy.Alas spin just isn't my thing as I can't stand how badly my butt hurts from the seats in the end. I highly recommend this studio though if it's something you love or want to get into. Great vibe, great instructors and a positive experience. read more

Tru Ride has been closed since July 2016 and will not reopen until sometime in January 2017 (nearly 7 months). Not only are they not providing access to the service that I purchased but they also seem to be appallingly unconcerned with providing any sort of acceptable level of customer service for their clients. Throughout their entire closure they have provided next to no updates on their closure. Clients have been left in the dark wondering what is happening. The owner seems more concerned with anyone be smirching her brand than with resolving any client complaints. Tru Ride has not taken any reasonable steps to meet the needs of their clients. All I want is a refund for the class passes I have been unable to use. I don't think that my request is unreasonable given the situation. I have been more than patient and understanding throughout the closure. I have only just asked for a refund. My hard earned money is tied up at Tru Ride and the owner seems woefully unconcerned about me as a client. It is completely ludicrous and irrational to expect clients to continue to wait around for months until Tru Ride reopens. Originally they said that the would reopen in September. Its nearly December. After initially contacting Tru Ride my request for a refund was ignored. I had to contact Tru Ride a second time asking for a refund. Tru Ride did not even bother to respond to my request this time. After contacting them a third time the owner finally asked to speak to me on the phone. From the conversation I discovered that the owner is only concerned with herself. She could not even attempt to understand my side. She is more than capable of issuing refunds since her company was bought by a major gym. She is more interested in herself. She refuses to issue a refund. Disgraceful.
