Earlier this summer, I enrolled my 10 year old and 4 year old daughters in Professor Andrew's Brazilian jiu-jitsu class at Arashi Do Whyte. I thought if I wasn't going to take any classes, at least my daughters could try it. After a month of watching my daughters grapple, I had to try it and I'm happy I did! Professor Andrew and his students made me feel welcome from the moment I stepped through the door. There were no "tough guys" with attitudes looking for a fight, just a bunch of people wanting to learn Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Professor Andrew teaches the Behring Progressive System and is extremely knowledgeable and is also a very effective teacher. He's excellent with the kids and uses humour as a teaching tool. He also uses humour in the adult classes...but it's a bit different! If you're looking for a quality jiu-jitsu instructor, you couldn't go wrong with Professor Andrew. Highly recommended!

It is a welcoming and fun environment where everyone is encouraged to push themselves as far as they want to go. There is no drama, no "buy-in" or cult-like reverence to the gym and its ways. Simply put, there is no nonsense. Andrew is an incredible instructor. He not only understands his art and how to apply it, but he knows how to break it down into a science that applies for everyone. Regardless of your size, age, strengths or gender, you will be well coached in how to make the art your own. The facilities are decent. They aren't the biggest or newest in the city, but they don't detract from the product offered. All in all, I highly recommend you check out Method BJJ and take a class. You will not regret it.

What you learn and earn is life changing. Those who criticize this honest hardworking approach are justifying why their past is better than what they might be. Why would you limit yourself this way? Fear. Fear that you may have wasted your time. Rather face the fear and make your own decision. Be your own person. Don't follow some 'guru' blindly. If you embrace this and it's not for you, what have you lost? Some time and a little money. If you sit back and criticize, you show small mindedness and fear, and worst of all an inability to learn. I have trained Gracie Combatives for 17 mos and worked with Jeff Greekas twice, recently. I am almost 50. 30 years ago I was training with the Canadian Olympic wrestling team. I feel qualified to say that this is the real deal. You won't regret the time you spend here.

Jeff has a way to pull the best out of each child while building on their weaknesses. As one of the other parents pointed out in their review, the circle time the kids have is such a great opportunity for the children to share their experiences with bullying and it really let's kids know they are not alone. Every few months, the kids have "Gracie Game Day", and must earn points at home if they want to attend. Points are based on chapter topics such as respect, citizenship, manners, responsibility & others, which the children are eager to score big points (huge for character building). I can't say good enough things about this club. 5 stars for sure!

We had previously tried out Jiu Jitsu two years ago at a different St. A dojo and did not have a good experience. At first, I was a little apprehensive to give it another try and the prices at Arashi-Do are higher than the other dojos I had looked at but decided to give it a go because my son's best friend wanted to sign up at the same place together. You can contact them via facebook, email, or by telephone. I initially sent in an email with questions about the program and received a telephone call in return from co-owner, Monitor Stephenie, and I was put at ease. Monitor Stephenie and Professor Tyson (married couple) co-own this franchise location and run the dojo together. They are fabulous - I cannot say enough great things about them. I've got one kiddo in Mini Monkeys (30 minutes 2 x a week) and one kiddo in Junior Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (45 minutes 2x a week). You pay the same for your membership whether you are in the 30 minute, 45 minute, or 60 minute classes - that I don't like but that's more to do with the franchise and the way Arashi-Do is set up than this particular location set up. The gym itself is bright, clean, spacious, and well-ventilated (I have not overheated as a parent sitting on the sidelines once). There are change rooms with a curtain as well as a washroom. What I'm really liking about Arashi-Do 1) that it's got a well-defined children's program and there is a difference between the mini monkeys and JBJJ. 2) Professor Tyson is phenomenal. My 9 year old daughter is completely comfortable with him and my 6 year old son thinks he is the bee's knees. Monitor Stephenie is fabulous, super kid friendly, approachable and easy to talk to. They really have a great balance as Professor and Monitor. Another neat thing is that they take their belts, stripes, and grading SERIOUSLY. The Master flies in from Brazil once (maybe twice) a year for all graded exams. Professor Tyson does regular stripe and colored bar tests but I believe the belt colour exams only occur when Mestre Sylvio da Matta Behring, 8th degree coral belt, visits. You can read more about their program on their website: http://arashido.com/programs/brazilian-jiu-jitsu Again, so happy to have found a dojo that works for our family and everyone feels comfortable and safe in. Discipline is foremost here but everything happens in a really structured and kid friendly manner. I'll definitely do an update in the future!

Nothing worth doing is easy and this goes for BJJ. The rewards are the people you meet and the knowledge you gain and share. It is very fullfilling. Additonally, for several hours a day, focusing on BJJ takes my mind off of any other problems that I have whether its a stressful job or a bad day in general. They say meditaton is good, well....bjj is great and gets you in shape too). At Bravé MMA, my training experience has been transformed under the expert guidance of Coach Kenny and his older brother, Coach KB, an MMA champion. Coach Kenny's deep knowledge and approachable style in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, combined with Coach KB's exceptional skill in boxing, BJJ and Muay Thai, create an unparalleled learning environment. Their commitment to each student's growth, whether in competitive spirit or skill development, is evident in every class. The gym's focus on safety, personalized training, and fostering a positive, supportive atmosphere sets it apart, in my opinion. Unlike my previous gym experience, Brave MMA emphasizes skill and personal development over a transactional, attendance-based approach. This nurturing environment, where challenges are met with encouragement and individual strengths are honed, makes Bravé MMA a unique and rewarding place for anyone passionate about martial arts. After a few months of training I noticed a massive improvement in my son's confidence and his general mood as well. If you're looking for a gym that genuinely loves what they do and takes care of their members like family then look no further, brave is top shelf!

You are locked in completely like a mortgage and similar to a bank, you are not pardoned if a payment is late and will be charged fees on top of it. Not like a BUSINESS versus a single adult needs that or anything. It took me having to cancel my credit card so they won't be able to continue to charge me. I truly wish I had never signed up, it has been nothing but grief and anguish for two solid years where the only focus has been MONEY. Quite honestly, the most horrific and HEARTLESS company and customer service I've ever had to deal with in my life. I strongly advise that this company re-evaluate your costs, and inflexible policies in the STRUGGLING times we are living in. I'll remind you that your patrons are human beings, not atm machines.

Getting the trial was seamless and so easy. When I arrived, the staff were super friendly and the paperwork was quick and easy. I was surprised to see I was the only one there to work out at 10 am. Part of me loves that- I often prefer to work out without distractions. The other part of me thought "aw, that's no fun!" A trainer walked me through each station and gave me fantastic tips and encouragement through the entire 30 mins. The workout itself is high intensity intervals (hence HIT) and focuses on kickboxing with an undertone of self defense training. I can get behind that. I loved that the workout was so quick, and totally ruined my body (and I'm used to working out regularly.) I can see how this would be a wicked option for people who are busy, but want to get a wicked workout/relieve some serious stress. The things I would change about this place would be their hours, and having a greater variety of stations. Their hours of operation are a little funky (they're closed in the afternoon) and I worry that I might get bored with the same stations! Too bad they don't have punch cards. Still thinking on whether I'm going to commit to a membership myself, but I definitely recommend checking it out! That trainer will kick your butt! I wish I could remember her name :(
