The scale at the cashier, with an empty container.

Update (08/04/24): The business owner reached out shortly after I posted this review and refunded back our salad bar purchase. I wish we had noted down the staff member's name who attended to us that day, because we were definitely not offered a discount when we brought up this issue. I do not appreciate the passive aggressive tone of the response we received and certainly did not appreciate being gaslighted here. We won't be coming back. Came here for lunch and we chose the salad bar, which was priced according to the weight of the food you picked. Upon paying for two of those, I realized that I am also paying for the weight of the container, which goes against California law. We spoke to the employee on duty and she claimed that the manager was not around, and refused to do anything about it. What these guys are doing is unethical. You've been warned. Don't get food from the salad bar.

Love walking into a restaurant to be warmly greeted! Lunch today was extra specially delicious! First time at this establishment and can't wait to return. So this is what I learned.. restaurant has been here since 2013, how did I not know this?? They also do catering in the mornings, so note they're open 11-3 Monday thru Friday only. I couldn't resist trying their organic orzo salad and it did not disappoint. Greens, cherry tomatoes, Parmesan, capers and caramelized onions tossed with a light lemon poppy vinaigrette. So tasty! My burrito was one of the best I've ever had, it was so large and so delicious... Spanish rice, kale, refried pinto beans, pickled red onions and chipotle aioli sauce. My hubby enjoyed the chicken crack burrito which was generously filled with achiote chicken, Spanish rice, kale, refried pinto beans, queso and pickled red onions... what a treat! Will definitely return and enjoy some other their other menu items. I'm so glad we discovered this restaurant today. Can dine inside or at tables out front. Ample free parking in the lot out front.

Avocado Meets Toast Tartine

Very pleasant, casual/relaxing indoor & outdoor setting with friendly service. Slightly unique selections of food and drink, deliciously served. We had the Chicken Crack Burrito and Avocado Meets toast Tartine with Aqua Bonita Mango/Habanero drink. The burrito was saucy but not too wet, wrapped with lots of healthy and delicious vegetables and beans. The tartine toast was piled high with avocado, nuts, and yummy pickled red onions. The mango drink had a hint of habanero which gives some kick without being too spicy.

Shrimp salad with green goddess dressing (Chef Special of the day)

Excellent across the board. Our service was excellent. She had a great knowledge of the food options, made genuine recommendations, and checked on our satisfaction throughout the experience. Above and beyond for a counter-service restaurant. The food was excellent! I loved the crack bowl and my mother loved her shrimp salad (chef special of the day). There was a salad bar and several food options behind glass that looked very good, quiche in particular. The place is extremely clean and pleasant with comfortable indoor and outdoor seating. A great hidden gem in Carpinteria and I will definitely be back for more.

This Chicken crack bowl is my all time fav at Food liaison.

Best place in Carp! Little gem that's been for a while in business, super staff and service. All their dishes including salads and deserts are fabulous, never disappointed! There's no hwy traffic that can stand on my way if this is the reward, I'll see you soon!

Orzo salad, mostly arugula with ton of onions, not sure what stringy white stuff is. Not a lot of flavor. See any orzo?

Food 3, people 5. Not sure why it's so popular as we found the food just ok. I had the chicken crack bowl, the chicken is very good (a big serving), I liked the roasted almonds, but the caramelized onions don't have much flavor, the kale is tough (but that's probably normal) and it just didn't wow. The orzo salad wasn't a good value and was 90% arugula (?) a ton of the onions, with almost no orzo. Kinda wet. The people are really nice, the overall setup is good.

Chicken Crack Bowl (more kale than quinoa & extra sauce)
Sara A.

I was first introduced to The Food Liaison via my work because they love ordering from here. I've only ever gotten the chicken crack bowl and once did the salad bar. The chicken crack bowl has a lot of great flavors but can be a little on the dryer side at times so I usually ask for extra sauce. The salad bar has many offerings but I think I ended up paying almost $17-$20 for it after all was said and done (I eat a lot so price per pound isn't great for me). Overall, it can be on the pricier side here, but on a better note, their cookies are bomb

I'm not surprised the cafe has closed. They made it soooo very difficult to buy anything.

At home with Chef Laurence Literally. My wife and I---and…read moreanother lovely couple---spent a morning and afternoon in her home, where she treated us to an east-going culinary adventure. In a handful of hours she shared her years of cooking experience in such a cordial, pleasant manner that even a kitchen novice could be comfortable. The more experienced in the kitchen gained tips and skills. (I can now confidently make a Beurre Blanc sauce, one of the French Master Sauces, to which we added a few strands of saffron and a generous dash of cayenne.). Beyond the food---a soft and tender halibut with the aforementioned Beurre Blanc, a fricassee of vegetables, a fresh garden salad with homemade ricotta sprinkled on it, and a blood orange upside-down cake----we dined on the presence and persona of Chef Laurence herself. Not only is she a chef extraordinaire but she is a wonderful person who shares her life as easily as she shares her home. When you sign up for her session, you get a four-course meal that consists of great food, culinary knowledge, exceptional hospitality, and an experience with a pleasant beautiful person who reminds you of the pleasures life has to offer.

We started with a trip to the farmer's market, where Laurence pointed out different items and talked through the differences in different types of food (green garlic was new to me!). We later met at her home, and the cooking began. She did a good job of rotating the tasks throughout the group, and explaining the techniques as she went. We got to taste as we went, and after all the chopping was done, wine was served. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the other participants were friendly and engaged, making it a fun, social experience as well. And, of course, the best part was sitting down at the end to enjoy the fruits of our labor. The dishes we prepared were full of flavor and creativity, and I walked away feeling incredibly satisfied and inspired to keep cooking. I highly recommend this class to anyone who loves food and wants to expand their culinary horizons. Whether you're looking to learn new techniques, discover fresh ingredients, or just have a fun day out, Market Forays is a fantastic choice.

Absolutely loved this cafe, the staff was friendly and helpful and happy to be there…read more The drinks were amazing, sadly genetics have decided that milk is actively trying to kill me so I have to drink alt milks like oat or almond, this place makes their own fresh alt milks daily and it's like nothing else I have tried, it doesn't feel like a second thought it is genuinely good. And it's a such a cute little cafe and a quiet town, we have been itching to go back ever since, to try more of their food items and of course get more coffee :).

I was excited to try this cafe with my friends after seeing that it had many positive Yelp reviews,…read morebut I was severely disappointed in the taste of my drink and in the service throughout our visit. Though the shop was cute, clean, and had a lovely covered patio outside, I wouldn't recommend it for those stopping by for coffee on road trips. I got a seasonal spring drink called the Irish Cream Mocha and asked for it iced. Unfortunately, it just tasted like chocolate milk. Now, I like a good chocolate milk, but not when I paid for a specialty flavored mocha! I didn't detect an Irish cream flavor or even a hint of mocha. As a latte, it was way too milky and lacked the depth of an espresso drink. Contrary to its description on the menu, it wasn't balanced at all. How misleading. My friend tried one of the craft energy drinks, and it looked pretty, but she said that it was flat and tasted kinda meh. She also got a visually-appealing soda, which apparently tasted much better compared to the energy drink. Another friend ordered the seasonal Dulce de Leche Latte, and she mentioned that it was a bit too light-tasting as a latte. That checks out since my mocha also seemed like it was missing the coffee component haha. Her latte did taste like a caramelly drink made with actual dulce de leche, but she didn't appreciate that the "light" dusting of cinnamon was more like a heaping teaspoon of it thrown into the drink. We noticed that our receipts showed a higher price than what was printed on the menus. We only found out after paying and reviewing the receipts that they charge $0.75 for making drinks iced. We weren't informed of this charge by any of the ladies at the registers upon ordering, and we didn't see any signs stating that iced drinks would incur an additional charge. No explanation anywhere. Another thing that threw me off was when a certain barista handed off the completed drinks in the pickup area. She wasn't wearing gloves, and I don't think she washed her hands in-between tasks, but she was placing the drinks onto the counter while holding them by the top part, aka the lid from where people drink! I was shocked at how unbothered she was while doing that, as if that's how she was trained, or she was never corrected.
