Inside the Food Gallery

The Food Gallery is definitely a place to stop at when strolling Thomas St. The spot is a foodie harbour with a stylish, spacious room spiced up with that hint of bohemian charm you don't mind and which makes things stand out. I love their open food counter with cakes and lemonades. For me, it like a eye-candy teaser, just before embarking on a cheesecake quest with a fork & a cup of cappuccino. A warm, relaxing atmosphere is perfect for a book and a chat. Whenever I visit, the staff is really friendly serving treats without delay. I am always on the move so quick service in company with a smile is what I need when rushing for last-minute catch-ups.

Nice cafe to go to just outside the city centre! They take a 20% student discount! Their hot chocolate is to die for

All the vendors are super friendly and love to make conversation! Great way to spend a morning! The ambiance is very quaint and friendly! Overall a great atmosphere and way to buy. We were running out of time on our hunt to find them when I realized, 'I've got my trusty guidebook!!' And that's how we ended up here. It was 12 Euros for 6 oysters and a glass of wine. Since there were four of us, the lady was nice enough to give us 4 cups of wine (yes, plastic cups - it's a farmer's market, what do you expect!) They even threw in an extra oyster! SO FRESH! SO BIG! (cue that's-what-she-said joke). Compared to NYC oysters, these babies looked like they were on steroids! They also have this dipping sauce (had onions and was really vinegar-y, but good. But if you don't like the sour, you should just take the oyster straight.) Didn't eat anything else from other stands because we just had lunch. However, I believe they had shish kebabs, crepes, and bread. Oh and FYI - Sheridans Cheesemongers was there (saw this place on Anthony Bourdain when he went to Dublin so thought this might be worth mentioning). Definitely check out this farmer's market!

After dancing the night away, we were hungry. Couldn't find anything open, so we decided to hit up Spar for some food. Our initial stop here was just to get some provisions such as red bull, water, etc. The second stop was for the drunken eats. Luckily they have a fair amount of ready to eat food. We grabbed some sandwiches - Chicken & Egg Cub, Chicken & Pepper Sandwich. Also, got some chips - Guiness and Flame Grilled Steak. The chips were something I never tried before. It wasn't bad at all. Beer and meat chips, who knew? I have no idea how much we spent here since the hubs took care of everything and I forgot to get a pic of the receipt. But we were staying in the area, so convenient for provisions and late night eats. REVIEW #4112

However, whenever I travel internationally, I always look forward to trying new snacks that are not available in the United States. So I did find some Doritos flavors at Spar that i hadn't seen anywhere else during my time in Dublin. It's a fully stocked store with an array of items from chips, candy, and cookies to an assortment of grab&go sandwiches and instant ramen. This location is nestled on the corner of a busy, crowded street. No self-checkout. You have to pay at the register. The customer service was a bit lackluster.

The cafe is super cute; one side is more of a restaurant scene with tables, menu, and waitresses and waiters on hand. The other side is more of grabbing something quick to eat and/or drink. I've tried the raspberry muffin. It was so fresh and good words cannot even describe it. I'm more of a blueberry muffin person but being that was not an option at the time I chose raspberry and I did not regret it. My fiancé and I also tried the Irish breakfast (I posted a pic and noted what it consisted of). So awesome! A hearty breakfast was a great way to start a day of exploring in Dublin. The next day, I tried the croissant and scone. They pretty much melted in my mouth. As you walk in the cafe, you could smell how fresh everything was. Anyway, we had planned to drive to the Cliffs of Moher that day and decided to get a couple of sandwiches and saw they had a variety of choices to choose from. I ended up creating my own sandwich; it was super delicious! Even when we ate it hours later, it was still good. We tried the Irish cheese and onion chips and it blew my mind. It's similar to the sour cream and onion here in the states but a hundred times better. I found myself looking for more onion and cheese chips during my stay in Ireland. The cafe started open later than other cafes I'm used to but we never made it back in time. With good prices and great food we probably would have eaten breakfast, lunch, and dinner there. I would definitely visit this place again if I ever get the opportunity to return to Dublin. It made our visit a truly remarkable one.

Yes, this is the enemy of the short fat and balding male rapidly reaching middle age, it is Fothergills, a shop filled with everything from a frankly obscene selection of the most appetising pastries known to man - including those squares of short bread covered with caramel and topped with chocolate.... Excuse me... I need a moment alone... Ahem... cakes... they do cakes as well and jam - I took pictures of the jam shelf, just to show you they take this sort of thing seriously... and quite right too.

Because I have no friends I could not dial for a hug, and because hugging yourself is a rather futile action I decided to lift my melancholy with some tea. I got some mint infused tea, to give me more of a spring in my step. And to really treat myself I got the orange and coconut combination which is as delicious as it sounds. Bigger, well stocked and thriving, FX Buckley's on Moore street is one of the last old timers still open in this traditional green market street. Just off Henry street and taking up three huge shop fronts Buckley's is cornering the market on speciality, traditional and every day meats. There's rashers and loops of pudding, sides of beef and shoulders of lamb. Over the summer I was a religious weekly visitor, snapping up their chicken fillet deal of 10 for €9.99 (while steering well clear of that case of tripe, livers and hearts). Things can get busy during the day so expect to queue for a few minutes while the missus ahead of you gets her week's order of steak mince. As in any good butchers, the white-coated professionals here are happy to dispense a bit of butcherly advice on cooking your purchase or if it's right for the recipe you're planning on!
