    Sample cheeses

Cozy, cute cheese store with knowledgeable and kind associates. I've never had sheep's milk cheese and got to have two tastes- ended up purchasing the one that is a harder cheese. If you love cheese, this is definitely the place for you. I don't know much about cheese, nor do I eat it often, but if I lived here, I would definitely be stopping in at least once a week.

I'd been stalking this place for months in preparation for our trip to Ireland. I was NOT disappointed (and let's be honest, after fantasizing, I was expecting my dreams to be dashed). The gentleman at the counter was extremely kind, patient, and knowledgeable. He let me try as many cheeses as I wanted and what was especially great, suggested ones that were exactly what I wanted (because, let's face it, who can go in and say they want X cheese from blah blah if they've not been exposed to it). Also- he suggested EXCELLENT meat pairings and packaged them so nicely for us. I hope this place won't ever go out of business because it was fabulous!

Sheridan's just got a little bit better -they're selling pizza kits! Granted, these dine-in dishes of delish aren't cheap: a base is €6.95, passata is €2.95 and the buffalo mozz rings up at €2.95 (there's also tuna on sale but I'm grossing out just trying to conceptualise a hot tuna and cheese pie), all in all you'll end up paying €12.85, not too far off from what you'll pay to let Bistro Bianconi throw one together deliciously for you. But still, nice to see this perfect cheese shop expanding the offering!

Cheese Heaven. If you are lactose intolerant look away now. This is a small shop stuffed with cheese, chutneys, wine and meats. All you need for your charcuterie board. You can try before you buy

If you love cheese, you'll love Sheridans. I also thought it was impossible for so many people to know so much about cheese, but the staff are amazing. Sheridan's have all the cheeses you could dream off. There are so many it's mind boggling. I love soft cheeses (but not goats cheese) so I had a beautiful selection of brie, camembert and some others that I can't remember the name of when I had some friends over for dinner. Also had to include the obligatory smelly, blue cheese. Sheridan's don't just do cheese either. They also do lovely pestos, olives, sandwiches, parma ham and lovely specialty meats. It's a little bit expensive but it's the real deal. Splash out.

This is a gourmet shop that really stands out and a haven for anyone with a palate for cheese. Love their old-fashioned look combined with the up-to-date selection of best cheeses available from Ireland and Europe. I even love the thick smell of ageing cheese that welcomes you when you step inside. This place brings me back to France where you go to the cheesemonger for cheese, the bakery for the baguettes and grab a few bottles in the wine-shop next door. You'll probably find everything you're looking for and more, from brie, goat cheese, smoked cheese, Bresse Bleu, cheddar and parmigiano to cheeses so old they might just walk out the door. And if you have a hard time choosing your platter, the staff will let you try little bites of heaven until you find the perfect combination! Great place with fantastic service!

Sheridan's is a small and compact spot. Up the stairs is the till and the cheese-mongers behind it wearing their traditional white coats. It has an old world rustic charm to it and the dark green front is in keeping with the early 1900's vibe that it has pulsing throughout it. The selection of cheese is fantastic, so if you take your cheese very seriously or want to get a different type of gift or if like me, you have a curiosity and want to grow your understanding of cheese, then you must come here. It goes without question that the staff know their cheese and most importantly have a passion for it. I was planning a party for some friends, old and new, so I thought the best thing and simplest idea was to create a cheese platter. Above the help that they gave me with regards to the cheese they made my life so much easier by advising the type of wines and beers that would compliment my selection. It's hard to judge something like that when alot of what I bought was some varieties that I had never tried before. Prices are reasonable. The unanimous positive feedback from the folks at my party confirmed to me that they really appreciate and understand their product. They also made me look good and knowledgeable as I regurgitated what they told me which is always a good thing!

Cheese, glorious cheese! If you are passionate about your brie and parmesan, make a beeline for this place! Cheeselovers will be in heaven wandering through this shrine to all the world's quality cheeses. Sample some of their different varieties from around the world, indulge in some lovely black olives or fetta-filled peppers, or treat yourself to a parma ham sandwich. Sheridans has some great deals too, the one on offer at the moment is a 12 euro dinner for 4 - it's just the ingredients, mind you, but buy them, take them home and whip up your very own tuna and parmesan pasta to well and truly impress your friends and family. Sheridans also stock a small range of wines, so you can get everything for your dinner needs here.

It took me a while after I moved to Dublin to realize the reason I couldn't find all of the cheeses I loved was because I was looking in the wrong place. I searched grocery store after grocery store and only one (Fresh on Camden Street) yielded even the most basic of my cheese needs (yes needs) - goat cheese. Such a normal item back home seemed to be rather specialized here in Dublin. I was dismayed. But then I found Sheridan's. Sheridan's, as it turns out, is the right place to find cheese. They have lots and lots of it. And it's gooooood. From ooey gooey Taleggio that stinks like feet to salty manchego that's best dizzled in honey and topped with quince paste. This is the real deal. They have everything and more and for me, it's heaven on earth. The staff is really helpful and will let you sample cheese if you're not sure what you're getting yourself into (or are pretending you don't in order to get free cheese, though who does that kind of crazy thing [me]). They can also recommend cheeses to go together for a cheese platter, if you feel like impressing friends at your next dinner party.

We were running out of time on our hunt to find them when I realized, 'I've got my trusty guidebook!!' And that's how we ended up here. It was 12 Euros for 6 oysters and a glass of wine. Since there were four of us, the lady was nice enough to give us 4 cups of wine (yes, plastic cups - it's a farmer's market, what do you expect!) They even threw in an extra oyster! SO FRESH! SO BIG! (cue that's-what-she-said joke). Compared to NYC oysters, these babies looked like they were on steroids! They also have this dipping sauce (had onions and was really vinegar-y, but good. But if you don't like the sour, you should just take the oyster straight.) Didn't eat anything else from other stands because we just had lunch. However, I believe they had shish kebabs, crepes, and bread. Oh and FYI - Sheridans Cheesemongers was there (saw this place on Anthony Bourdain when he went to Dublin so thought this might be worth mentioning). Definitely check out this farmer's market!

Thursdays they have a limited selection with their organic/fairtrade/eco products and one supplier of fruits/vegetables, Saturday is the full show. First, this is a real coop with the whole community concept and you are encouraged to join as a member if you come regularly. Until recently they had a guest fee/suggested donation for visiting on Saturdays but this is gone so you are now free to check it out and see if you like it. Memberships gives you a 5% discount which might only be worth it if you shop there a lot, but even if not it might give you a warm and fuzzy feeling inside. While the coop is somewhat like a farmers market, it's kind of different because it has lots of different areas. It's definitely not as posh as the Temple Bar Farmers Market, so if you're looking for something like that - you're wrong here - this is much more down to earth (although Natasha's living foods also has a stand there) First there is the coop-run fairtrade/eco/organic store, which is a bit like a big health food store. Some of the "staple" products (like different beans, sugar, etc.) are packed by the coop itself and seem very competitively priced, others you can find cheaper in other places around town. The selection is great though, there's some things I haven't found somewhere else around town (like these German soy-based meat substitutes). They also do refills for some of the eco washing up/laundry liquids. Then there is the organic fruit/vegetable/eggs sellers - I think there's four or five competing ones there. They mostly have similar produce though and more than I'd like is imported - I couldn't find any Irish apples there, while they seem to have them at the Temple Bar Market. Also although there are all these producers together you might not get as lovely mushrooms or might be missing some not-so-common fruits/vegetables. They do their best, and all the guys are very lovely, but if like me you're looking for something very specific you might still have to hit both F&B and the Temple Bar Market to try to find it. If you hit these two first, you might be lucky here though. Then there's a few other sellers, two guys sell bread, one is German and sells nice German breads, the other I haven't tried. And then there's the milk/cheese stand from Moonshine, one of the main reasons I'm coming here. They have the non-homogenised (but pasteurised) Moonshine Milk, which is my new favourite as it tastes much better than the usual one to me. And it's not expensive for organic milk, 2.35 for 2 litres of the tastiest milk you'll get. Their cheese is also delicious. If you're hungry right there, there's also a cafe and a few sellers of snacks - two Indian foodstands, and a few other sellers of organic soups/pasties/muffins/other snacks. What I tried there was tasty, but nothing to write home about - I wouldn't say it's worth going there just for that. One thing you won't find in this huge markethall is meat - it's fully vegetarian. I must say I didn't really notice though until I read it on their website that this is part of the concept. I'd personally like a closer place to pick up a good selection of organic meat too, but it's only a small downside for me.

A favourite place of mine to do some vegetable and whole goods shopping on a Saturday (indeed I am…read moreeven a member of the co-op) and then sit down to one of the best kept secrets in Dublin; the cafe's Amazing Eggs with a latte. No really, that's what they're called, and they seriously are amazing, soft silky eggs with a little fried garlic and some cheese chucked in, on top of a slice of toasted brioche (from the German baker who sells his bread there) topped with fresh tomato and basil. Heavenly. All the ingredients they use in the cafe are from the market and you really can taste the difference. Just remember to tidy up after yourself, it's a co-op after all. ;)
