first time was with two girl friends to finish off our girl's day out around manchester! we all chose the font g.t cocktail & it was so tasteful! loved the dried strawberries that were topped off on the drink & it was such a nice first drink since i got to manchester! my friends shared a large curly fry which we got half off with a coupon! second time was for a society meet up! this time my friend & i tried beer which was good in its own way! our society filled up the whole bar so the line was probably so full, but we came early & got our food/drinks before the rush! overall the experience was great! i love the decor & it's not too dark or loud! i'll definitely come back for another girl's night or just sharing a few drinks with friends! read more

I've got to say, I did not love this bar. We popped in for a quick pre-dinner drink and I was immediately hit with STUDENT BAR VIBE. It's very casual and the furniture is all super basic which normally I don't mind but this place just seemed to be a bit of a mess. The drinks menu isn't much better - lots and lots of super cheap cocktails. I went for a mulled cider which was a huge life mistake, it tasted nasty and was unpleasant to drink. If the truth be known, the Font has started to become a pretty random, regular and retro choice of mine - somewhere that I used to visit 9 years ago in Manchester (12 years ago as a student in Liverpool...)! Maybe it's me turning 30 last year that's making me want to start hanging out in studentsville once again, trying to potentially recapture my youth - maybe it's me starting to realise I can start breathing the air outside of the Northern Quarter and I'm not going to collapse into a heap onto the floor. Who knows - but I will keep going back to Font to find out why. Font isn't the smartest, coolest or newest bar on the scene but I get the impression they don't really care about it. What they care about is great beers (over 100 craft in bottle and pint format), cheap cocktails - starting from £2 each and decent qualityfood that's standard for the area (burgers, wraps etc), but cheaper than going round the block to other places. The beer selection for me is always the most important part of any bar and I was pleasantly surprised to see a great range of Thornbridge, Brooklyn rarities and local brews from Buxton - all at pretty reasonable city centre prices. The music is pretty damn good too - Bowie, QOTSA and Ladyhawke were well received - starting our evening off with a nice beat flowing from ear to ear! I will even stick my neck out and say that Font is my new/old favourite bar - don't be surprised if I try and get you down there soon! On a cold, wet winter's evening where do you go for cheap food and drink before going to the Cornerhouse? The Font while all the students have gone home to mum and dads for Christmas. I used to come here a lot as a student and finding my friends dragging me back here as an adult. This place now looks quirky and it always seems busy despite being on two floors. Not do much a student place as there are people of all ages. Be aware of any drunks who get carried away with the £2 cocktails on offer. The food is plentiful too for the price. We got a mixture of burgers, mac and cheese, vegetarian - something for everyone. Cheap and cheerful. What's not to like about this place. read more

The last thing anyone wants to do post-holiday is jump straight into Tesco and start planning your meals for the week ahead; you want to keep that holiday feeling going for as long as possible. After weighing up the numerous brunch / lunch options Manchester has to offer, we decided on The Font - old faithful. It wasn't particularly busy when we arrived but people started to pile in around 1pm (Bank Holiday hangovers, perhaps...) so we had our pick of the tables upstairs. After a few days of drinking generic European lager, I went for a Magic Rock Highwire Grapefruit - the drink which started my new found love for beer - and it really hit the spot. Food wise, the other half couldn't see much further than the big breakfast, a staple from our student days. I enjoyed a corner of the hash brown, my favourite item on any breakfast plate! The toast, oddly, took a while to reach the table but other than that the service was friendly and attentive throughout. My jerk steak wrap was really tasty, with a real kick of spice cooled by a Tzatziki style sauce, accompanied by a dry coleslaw - perfect when drizzled with some Sriracha. We shared some onion rings because hey, we're on holiday... One thing I would come back to The Font for time and time again are the curly fries. I don't think I've ever not spent that extra bit of money on upgrading them. Old faithful remains just that. read more

Wow - what a blast from the past. I was a regular in Font in my University days and now I remember why! £2 for a cocktail... Okie dokie. For a Tuesday night after a Yelp event at Pancho's I found myself ordering a few cocktails and beers in here. It is just as I remembered, split out over 2 levels it has plenty of seating, a varied cocktail menu (From £2 - £6!! Cheap as chips!) and it still has that 'studenty' vibe which was nice for a while, although I did start to feel a little old towards the end of the night when the place was filled with under 20's. It's a friendly and fun bar, and from what I'm told does really nice food too. I probably won't pop into Font much, those days for me have been and gone - I do fancy trying the food but it'll be over the holidays when the students have all gone home and it's quiet ;) read more

I can understand why Font appears to have a really mixed bag of reviews - as it's probably not most people's cup of tea if they don't fancy a predominantly studenty crowd. My friends and I really like it here though, as it offers cheap, decent drinks, good food and great music, so it's perfect as a pre-gig venue if you're off to the nearby Ritz. The regular rotation of the beers means there's usually an eclectic mix of local breweries. Its reputation as a bit of a beer mecca is so good in fact that it features in CAMRA's Good Beer Guide. There are lots of cocktails available at cheap-as-chips prices alongside wines and spirits aplenty. I've only eaten here once but the portions are hearty yet good value for money - the menu comprises the likes of wraps, sandwiches and burgers (be sure to get a side order of curly fries for 50p extra). It can get quite busy of an evening over its two floors, but the atmosphere is buoyant and fun. As a venue it's an oldie but a goodie for me. read more

I need to start off saying that I think I'll be a regular of the Font. Cocktails literally start at £2 and cap off at £5, making this a hot spot for potential evenings out after uni (although I didn't notice the cocktail menu until after I ordered). Additionally, my first love is typography and with a name like "the Font," of course my interest is instantly piqued in giving this spot a go. Somehow, I managed to walk in right as the staff was undergoing training on mastering the beer tap. Perhaps they were even bringing in a new selection of craft brews? Either way, one of the staff quickly hopped up and met me at the bar to take my order. She was extremely knowledgeable on current selection and even offered me a sample of a suggested beer. Delicious. I then chose to pair my beverage with a tasty wrap for a total under £10. The wrap was decent and has me curious to further explore the menu on a later visit. (But seriously, that cocktail menu has caught my eye!) The overall atmosphere of the pub definitely falls into category: hipster with its vintage sofas and lampshades set against unique table settings and wall art. All-in-all, the Font is one pub you should definitely add to your rotation if you live in Manchester or are just passing through. read more

If you're a student, or your mates fancy a cheap cocktail then this place is great. It does have a good selection of drinks, and quite often has a choice of 3 or so very good ales, which they served me in a pint glass with handle! GREAT! It even got recognised by CAMRA, which is odd for a student pub! However, I'm not a student, and if you fancy going with a bunch of mates you want to talk to after 9pm don't bother going. It'll get far too loud. Ironically if there's ever a band on you want to hear there, you wont be able to hear them due to everyone talking over them. Been here only a couple times. Its has a very student-y feel. This is no doubt because of the cheap cocktails. I had heard the cocktails were cheap, but not £2 cheap!! It has a selection of about 10 cocktails for £2. They have many others just a little bit more than that. In fact the most expensive cocktail I think is £5 or £6. And although the cocktails are not the best in the world, they are not too bad for such as cheap price - although maybe taste a little watered down. The place is pretty big so you have a decent chance of grabbing a table to sit down. When I came here on a Monday, the bar was quite busy when we arrived but quietened down quickly. I've been to this Font for cocktails a few times. I came with a friend on a Friday night recently. The cocktails were very weak with barely any alcohol in it, but tasted really good. I loved the coconut liqueur in blue Hawaiian. The chicken burger was a let down as the chicken piece was very small. The curled chips were a lot nicer than normal chips & nicer than the burger to be fair, although the curled chips added extra 50p which the barman didn't tell me until I agreed to swap normal chips to curled one & was about to pay. I had the strawberries &cream cocktail for 2 quid which served as a dessert. This place is usually full of university students at term time. It was quite busy in July too with young crowds. Certainly a good trendy bar to start a weekend night with. But don't count on getting drunk here as I wasn't even tipsy after 2 cocktails. read more

My boss got me into a new beer. Delirium's amazeballs and tasty, and the glass it comes in is as special as the beer itself. Designated Delirium glasses at Font are covered with pink elephants. YAY PINK ELEPHANTS! Reasonably priced fodder, a great daytime atmosphere, buzzing at night and just bloody lovely, chockfull of sentimental value too. You're alright by me, Font. I used to quite like the apple mojitos from here. £2 is cheap for a cocktail. However, it isn't really that cheap as you essentially get an Ikea glass full of ice. Even the biggest lightweight would need to buy at least 3 or 4 cocktails before they could feel the effect of the alcohol. Admittedly the cocktails are quite tasty, but I tend to go for the 2-4-1 beer offers they have on - at the moment bottles of Peroni are BOGOF every night until 10pm. At the weekends this is one of the only places around the Oxford Road corridor which actually has a better atmosphere than throughout the week, although it can get pretty packed. On several occasions I've had to wait for 15 minutes-ish at the bar behind people ordering 10 different cocktails only to find on my return that my little section of the wooden bench has been commandeered by the group next to mine. If you're happy to stand for a pre-night out drink then Font is a great place to get you in the mood for drinking and dancing. Also I don't understand why they got rid of the groovy frontage and put a load of bird silhouettes on the window. Maybe they had problems with pigeons flying into the glass?! read more

How? Why? What? So many questions about the price of this place. Cheap and cheerful is probably the best way to describe it. The cocktails indeed start at £2, however if you're expecting more than a measure of spirit you may want to look away now. I had a nice English Collins, the White Russian was also good, but it's all very straightforward. There's also a good beer selection on draft and in bottle/can (my friend was surprised to see a Swedish beer only usualy found in the Alcohol Monopoly stores, but there's also a lot of the UK and international breweries, new and old). Hackney's Howling Hops had a big tap presence as part of a takeover, but with about a dozen kegs and 4/5 casks there's a big selection at all price ranges. Albeit not quite as cheap as the aforementioned cocktails. The feel of the place is very much student union-y upstairs (and the age range of other patrons made it feel very very much like that), with downstairs having a slightly different vibe due to it's retro furniture/decorations. I imagine it's a good night-out venue, rather than as a pub (see: drinks prices, music level, DJ in the corner). They'd stopped serving food, but the brownie I had was nice, if a bit lacking in gooeyness. You can find much better cocktails elsewhere (including Gorilla, just around the corner). read more

Font ohh dear! I have had so many night outs, goof ups and crazy evenings here. Definitely is one of the best student bars in Manchester, you cannot go wrong with a 2 pound cocktail (I yes you heard it right). Remember those days when you were a student and buying a cocktail in a bar was a luxury? That is exactly where Font comes into play where you can get fancy cocktails for 2, 3 and 4 pounds (I doubt the amount of alcohol content sometimes but there definitely is some because I definitely have had a nice kick after). My favorites being the 2 pound Strawberry Cream Cocktail which is absolutely delicious and White Russian for 3 pounds! You can definitely have a good night out here for less than 20 quid. They have a great selection of beers as well and as I mentioned before price is something you don't need to worry about here! Font is definitely the best stop over before hitting a club or if you are not in a mood to dance like a pop star then you can definitely spend the whole night here! The music is good (mostly pop and rock) and they have two floors so enough space to go with a big group (besides weekends when it is absolutely rammed). The bouncers can be strict with ID checks so make sure you carry one even if you are 25! Verdict: Cheap cocktails, good music and a buzzing crowd! read more

Popular with the uni crowds of the whole Oxford Road semi- 'burb, I found out about Font bar from a friend who actually went to Manchester Met for a year. Girls, come here for a good selection of £2 cocktails, 25 in fact and I promise I'm not lying. They just don't come in posh glasses. For some this is clearly a destination bar but I see it more of a pitstop on the way to a club. The long benches on some of the tables are fun but you wouldn't want to sit there for long. Font Bar also just isn't big enough to accommodate all the spruced up youngsters who want to drink here. So many, wisely, just move along after a few drinks. That said, they do put on a good mix of music: if you visited a few times in the same week you'd hear dub, electro, the obligatory indie and even a bit of 60s soul and funk thrown in there. I've never been in to Font during the day for food but its open from lunch time and it has free Wi-Fi so I may be correcting that ve-ery soon. Finally, I absolutely love the decor here finding that it walked the line between kooky and pretentious like a pro. There's nothing like a good looking bar on a night out in town. read more

Years ago when I had the energy to wander pub to pub along the way to a club this bar would have been a welcome stop, but now I chose more wisely the places I take my custom. It's been put on the map for it's £2 cocktails unfortunately, pretty damn scary how many of them I've knocked back. They're fun and tasty let's say, definitely will give you some type of sugar rush if nothing else. These days to my much developed taste buds, I'll go for one of the beers on offer, much better deal in terms of the student's true objective and on the making me feel like vomitting barometer. When there's 241 on tiger beer, why the hell would anyone go for £2, £3 mix of slime? Ah well, why ruin the heart and soul of this place. But enough of the infamous cocktails. Font is the student's staple pre bar hit, it's actual hit and it's prime hangover cure as well. It succeeds in drawing in the crowds day upon night upon day. You'll never not find a happy face screaming out tonight's gonna be a cheap cheap night. Overall it's got good intentions serving up the laughs, alternative music and the buzz for a great night out. Come to font lots of times with Uni friends, family, work dos ETC! First things first, it is on the student strip really so be prepared for students and lairyness- potentially any night of the week! I think a lot of people complain about the student-ness of it and forget that they are probably a lot of their business which is no problem! Basically they do CHEAP cocktails and Cheapish food! If you go on a Friday or Saturday nearly all the tables WILL be taken, there WILL be a queue in the toilets and at the bar- so lets just get over it! I love this bar for its cheap cocktails, mulled wine, chilled out atmosphere, good people watching and cheap food! Its not a businessy cool NQ bar so lets not go expecting that! If you get there early enough, like we did on Friday, we managed to get a huge table for our large group RIGHT next to the bar and promptly ordered prosecco off a really friendly barmaid all evening- it was fab! A few months ago I won £100 worth of vouchers to spend at Yo Sushi. It took me until this weekend to convince a friend to come with me - it's surprisingly hard to get people to eat free food if your choices of dining establishment are The Trafford Centre, The Arndale, or Piccadilly Station. We chose the classy location of The Arndale and made a decent dent in my stack of vouchers. The choice of where to go for a drink afterwards was going to follow one of two paths of logic: 1) Since dinner was entirely free, we could go somewhere for fancy expensive cocktails or pricey imported beer and generally behave ourselves as though we're not constantly skint 2) As the evening so far has been so cheap, why ruin that by spending a load of money on drinks?! Stingy as ever, we went with the second path, and so we ended up at The Font. I had never been before, having spent my student days somewhere other than Manchester, and so the idea of £2 cocktails was at once exciting and bewildering. There's something quite soothing about knowing that even if you work your way across the whole menu, you're quite unlikely to bankrupt yourself. I had a Classic Mojito and a Very English Collins; my friend had a Bitch on Wheels and a Long Island Iced Tea; we sat and watched some students having a fight. They're obviously not the best quality so if you're a Northern Quarter soul who's into fancy cocktails you probably won't be impressed. Located down near Oxford Road, The Font made me feel like I was back at uni. The first time I frequented this place was after the UYE: Wasabi event because it was just round the corner after we'd consumed a pile of sushi. This time it seemed like a good meeting place before heading to the Joshua Brooks for JB Shorts- a series of 6 15 minute plays. Had a mojito for £3.50 and it was actually pretty OK. Not a bad place if you're under 25 however I'm in my mid-30s and I felt a bit old in here last night. It used to be a weekly (correction, daily) haunt of mine from the late 90s onwards but I guess I've just got tired of these types of places - and the Oxford Road student scene in general - unless I'm on the table that's making all the noise! Located right next to Oxford road station, this is the drinking hole for a lot of students based in and around the area. It's clear to see why - the 'cocktails' start at £2. When I say 'cocktails', I actually mean a thimble full of spirit and a lot of fruit juice or soda. Practically mocktails. So in reality, although it seems cheap it's really not that great. Last time I went was for after work drinks, and the place is doing really well. It was full and there were people standing who couldn't find seats - they're raking in student loans down there. It was very noisy and hard to hear anything going on, and that was at 6 in the evening. I ordered a pint of Camden and it was £4 - not really cheap in comparison to other places for what I would call a real drink. I used to eat in here in uni days - and the food is reasonably priced and typical pub grub. Again, great for students. When I was in university, this place was perfectly located and cheap as chips. I also hadn't been properly introduced to the Northern Quarter, so the only real comparison was other studenty bars (The Courtyard primarily). But if you're used to nice bars, with real alcohol, you'll probably be disappointed. read more

Formally a three star establishment in my mind, but a recent excursion to said bar has knocked that down to two. And no amount of cheap cocktails will change my mine at the moment.. Good points first: the £2 cocktails. They really are worth a go purely due to the different kinds you can get; sweet flavours such as Sex on the Beach and (personal favourite) Dune Bug, milky ones like Mudslide for the sans-lactose intolerance, and less "girly" ones like Whisky Sour. Stay away from the Choke, though. Made me do just that. Of course you get what you pay for so don't expect quality alcoholic brands, and expect to be sick from the sweetness rather than the drunkenness. Now for the bad points.. The service is rather slow, but due to the nature of the drinks you are buying, this cannot be helped really. If you want crushed mint in your Sailor Jerry's Mojito you'll just have to wait for the people in front to get theirs first. The bar staff are hit and miss; some smiley, some can't wait to see the back of you--but as a bar person at a pub a stones throw away I can empathise with them regarding the stupid clientele that they occasionally encounter. IT'S SO LOUD! I swear the tinnitus I endure in my right ear is partly due to a couple of visits to this place. During the last visit I sat downstairs (which is rare--finding a seat in Font is not commonplace in the evening) and was annoying distracted by the music cutting out downstairs now and then. Next minute, it's booming in your ear again. Not good. Despite this, I know I will go again, but it'll be on someone else's agenda and not by choice. read more

Jam-packed cheap cocktail dive bar! If that's what you like, this is for you :) What i like about this place is that it is cheap - but it does get rammed in the evenings and weekends... I've only sampled chips in regards to the food selection so I can't comment here, but they weren't over done or dried out! Nom! The selection you get can range from £2-£4 and there are even pitchers! I have so many favourites and the bar staff are very friendly (even when busy) and make suggestions to try your mojito with something else as the night progresses - if they do, take their word! My most frequented bar when I was studying abroad in Manchester, and for good reason. Good music, good vibes, good drinks (for England), good value. What's not to like? With two stories and two separate bars, there was definitely enough room for all your friends, and there was even a balcony area to cool off on. There were a lot of tables and seats in the place too, and staff made sure our group had enough places to sit when we came in for a birthday! And they were very attentive when it came to clearing our overcrowding table of drinks, which got us to order more drinks... Totally got us on that. The atmosphere itself was really great as well. I really enjoyed the music that this place blasts, if I remember correctly, a lot of 90s-00s hip-hop! That is always the good stuff. And I remember being able to go in there with friends to get our "funsies" in on one night, and another night going in there to have a nice chill night with friends. I have no idea how we were able to do that, but it was done, and it was awesome. And for the main attraction - the drinks. For £2-3 cocktails, you can't really go wrong, such student-friendly prices. And there's a good variety of mixed drinks to choose from, so you want to try them all! That's how they get you, again...Although, I do have to say there wasn't ever really enough alcohol (in my opinion) in those drinks, but that's pretty much the same everywhere in the area. So, head towards the beers and ciders, I guess. And they also have milkshakes for your non-drinking buddies! How considerate! The crowd was, of course, made up of mainly uni students (as Fallowfield was right across the street! Lucky.), but I spotted a couple of families in there at times, and some older folks relaxing on a friday. Oh the memories The Font brings back. I definitely recommend this place for a chill and non-chill night. Try all the drinks. Make some friends, or stick to your own. Font is a noisy studenty watering hole on the town end of oxford road, that's an integral part of the student quarter. Due to its location and cheap drinks, you often find a lot of students there. Oh wait I did mention students before, but you get the idea. Now the students v cheap drinks is more of a hen v egg conundrum all over again, so let's not get there. What we shall talk about is £2 cocktails. I mean even a one way Stagecoach (not Magic Bus or First) bus journey from Didsbury to town costs more than that. One can think of so many more little things costing more than that. We tried the melon ball, peach ice tea and a zombie (which cost 5 quid btw). They were all very well made and went down quickly. I am not sure about the other drinks on that extensive menu of theirs. This is one place I don't mind going to every once in a while to have a good time and travel back to the good ol' days of being a student. Font is not the Don Corleone of cocktail bars, which expects you to conduct yourself in a certain manner and commands a certain kind of respect it for what it is, or the James Bond of cocktail bars, which is sophesticated and exotic but accessible to very few but it is more of a John McClane, which has been thrust into the situation and is doing it's best with what it has, for all of us have a good time, whilst it plods along, one weekend to another. Ahhh Font Bar my old friend. We go waaay back. First thing to note about Font Bar...it is very popular with students. This is largely due to the £2 cocktails and 2-4-1 Tiger Beer promotions which run all day, every day. If you don't like students, you will not like Font. Secondly, it's a great place for a good pint of beer. They do a huge range of beers ranging from ordinary lagers to obscure bitters and, my favourite, an ever changing range of fruit beers, both bottled and on draught. Cherry beer people, it's the future! Music-wise, they play a bit of everything but they do tend to favour cheesy, poppy stuff. Then again, I tend to go before going to Subspace on a Thursday which is cheesy 80s pop night so they might be playing to that crowd. It does get very busy and there is limited seating but this can be expected in a small bar selling cheap drinks. Also, of course the £2 cocktails have a low alcohol content, what were you expecting?! It has just about everything going for it when it comes to what you'd want from a bar with a difference... - You can play Pro Evo soccer on a big screen - There are always special offers on beer - It's right next to some of the coolest clubs in Manchester - The cocktails are stupidly cheap if you're into that sort of thing It really does rock. And don't forget about those comfy sofas. Everyone likes comfy sofas! All they really need to do is improve the music and stop the overcrowding, and it'd be darn near perfect. I went to this place for lunch on Sunday after gym. People who just woke up couldn't understand how hungry I am, so I went on my own. There were busy when I arrived including couples or groups sitting for lunch. I checked the menu and ordered the Chicken burger with a lemonade. The chicken burger arrived soon with chips and coleslaw. I am kind of fussy eater in terms of food quality and how fresh the ingredients are. I was pleasantly surprised by the freshness of the meat and the taste of the burger due to the right cooking and the seasoning. The coslaw is great as well. I love this place because you get more than you paid for. This burger quality definitely makes my money worthwhile. The staffs are lovely. They are very friendly and helpful. I asked whether they had newspapers of the day when I was ordering the food. They brought a selection of newspapers a few minutes later when I almost forgot about it. The two ladies at the counter not only take food and drink orders and also chat to people. I am certainly in love with this place. The attentive and efficient service and the decent quality of the food will make this place a good casual dinning option. read more

Font, font, font. I'm torn. Let's get the negatives out of the way first. The cocktails are dire. Yes, they're cheap, but they're still dire. Unless you're a broke student (OK, so more than half of Font's regular customers) they really are to be avoided. Even then, to be honest. Cheap alcohol with even cheaper mixers. Which makes the price of the beer slightly irritating. It's on the expensive end - 'Southern Quarter' prices before the Southern Quarter really existed (ie before Gorilla, Whim Wham and Black Dog NWS arrived on the scene) - in fact, maybe even a tad more expensive than that. The food's gone downhill, too, and is really rather inconsistent. I'd avoid the burgers, certainly. Still, it's not horrendously priced at around £5-6 for a main. Sadly, comparisons with Wetherspoon's might be merited here. That's all I think I really need to say on the food. So why 4 stars? Simple. This is a brilliant place to come during the day to sample one of the widest selections of craft beer anywhere in Manchester - as others have noted, the bottled selection is particularly good. The draught selection changes surprisingly often, too. Other places in Manchester are cheaper, nicer, and easier to get to - but I don't think I'd ever be able to get bored of Font's selection, and that's why Font still deserves cheering. read more

We've all been on those nights where you are out with a group who you know through a friend or partner and therefore have no real say in where the evening's schedule. Not so long ago I was on one. Leaving the Thirsty Scholar we took a sharp right down a dark alley. Looking around at my temporary gang I confirmed to myself that none of them look particularly Mafioso so concluded that it was probably safe to continue. Out of the darkness shone a loud and shiny bauble and as we approached the bauble I could see that it was called Font. It was immediately obvious to my ex-student spidey senses that this was a place students go to get cheap drinks in early before 5th Ave starts then end up forgetting to leave and spend the night knocking over pints as they bounce along to Chesney Hawkes in a great sweaty mess. I prayed we were just passing but as the bauble grew larger, brighter and louder I braced myself for entry. The bar was less than fifteen feet from the front door but timing how long it took to actually get to it would have been better done with a calender than a stopwatch. After what seemed like a long and bumpy eternity, I got my pint. Turning around it was promptly knocked out of my hands by a student, bouncing, in a sweaty mess- I found no sense of satisfaction in my accurate prediction of how the Font was going to be. Immediatly I sprang out the mental calculator and wondered- if it takes over twenty minutes to get served and another twenty to drink and then it's back in the queue, the rate of consumption here is one drink every hour- so how are all of these little twats so pissed?!!! read more

The Font is the place to come if your sole purpose is to consume alcohol. This place is cheap, cheerful and swarming with students - not surprising considering the £2 cocktails. No need to wait for happy hour - The Font is always cheap but that doesn't necessarily mean good. The cocktails see diluted as you will manage to get through many £2-ers before you start to feel the affects. This place is big so there's plenty of room to grab a table and sit with your friends. It may not be high-quality but it is fun, relaxed and you can get some decent beers on tap as well. read more

Hadn't been here in a very long time, it'd never been high on my list of places to inhabit as I just associate with cheap cocktails that I'm dubious of what's actually them for their price. I hadn't associated it with beer before, as rarely had I got close enough to the bar with how busy it gets it's at least in the past anyways been a case of shouting what you want to the mate closest to the bar and hoping they get the right thing, so it was a pleasant awakening of an evening, quite enjoyed the various beers I sampled (even managing to ignore the jostles from my fellow drinkers over ordering halves n thirds, I like to make my way round as many beers as possible) Quite a large place, it still gets rammed. A decent bar located at the top of what's become known as 'Studentville' on the Oxford Rd corridor with cheap cocktails, a good selection of keg and cask beer and ciders. They even offer a CAMRA discount on the cask beer. The bar is on two levels with a bar on each although the basement area has a smaller selection and none of the cask beer. The food is pretty good and is the normal far of burgers, wrap and chips. Unfortunately the massive focus on the student crowd ruins it for anyone else after about 6pm on a Friday/Saturday night. It's gets massively crowded and loud once the DJ/live music gets going. Unless you are a student or are trying to recapture your youth, Font is best enjoyed during the day or left to the Summer months or during the day when most of the student population is out of Manchester. But with a lack of any outdoor seating there are better locations to be found in the city at this time in the year as well. read more
