My favourite piece of artwork at the Duck!
Briony C.

The Flying Duck is a venue I've frequented many times - sometimes with exceptionally bad dancing, others for a quiet drink. But every time I go here, I have a blast. I visited on Saturday night for casual drinks leading into a bit more of a party atmosphere as the night went on. There's always an interesting mix of people in the Duck and it generally has a relaxed, friendly vibe to it. I was having a few drinks and went for cans of Strongbow (don't judge me) which are around £2.80. There are discounted prices for Sunday - Thursday but I wouldn't exactly say the prices are steep on the weekend! The main area is great for dancing with different levels and a bit of an odd layout (pillars to hide behind if you're not a confident dancer!). On another visit here, they put on toast out in the main room which was free. After a few drinks, I think this is a really sweet touch that they don't need to do, but shows they care about their slightly (or very) drunk punters who feel like some food. I think The Flying Duck is a bit of a marmite (vegemite) venue - you're going to like it, or you won't. It's not flashy, fancy or classy but it's comfortable, welcoming and slightly dingy without being dirty. The toilets are always clean and appropriately stocked with toilet paper. I can't think of a venue I'd rather go to for some dancing &/or drinking in Glasgow.

The Flying Duck is probably my favourite vegan eatery in Glasgow out of the ones I've tried. The food is fantastic, it's really good value for money, the service is great, and I love the dark, laid-back hipster-y atmosphere. The first time I went, I combined a visit to the Vegan Fête with lunch. I wish I could attend the Vegan Fête more often, because it's such a great initiative and there were so many nice wee companies, offering everything from cupcakes to pies to cleaning products. After much contemplation (because really, how often do you get a whole menu to choose from when you're vegan??) I opted for the Mad Dawg. I'm not normally one for hot dogs, but the amount of toppings on this one made it reaaally yummy. The second time I went for dinner, and tried their classic veggie burger with added cheese. I have a weakness for veggie burgers, and this one was really good. If I remember correctly it was made from seitan and lentils? Either way, it was so flavoursome and nice, with a lovely bun and a good amount of filling. As mentioned, getting to choose from a whole menu of delicious vegan food is pretty superb, and I'm already itching to go back to try more of their stuff. Both times I was way too full to have dessert, but their shakes look amazing, so I might have to try one of those next time... The service is also really great - friendly and quick. You go up to the bar to order and pay, which I actually really like because it simplifies things. They also do a 10% student discount, which makes the already cheap food even more affordable!

We needed somewhere to crash before we headed home last Sunday. David had been to The Flying Duck during his uni days so he was a bit reluctant at first. Once I'd shown him the positive reviews by you lovely Yelpers we decided to give it a go. As you head downstairs you feel like you about to enter a comedy club or tiny underground bar but it is surprisingly roomy inside. There is a large well-stocked bar at one end and a small stage. We settle in one of the cozy tables for two. What I failed to share with my carnivorous better half was that this place is entirely vegan! After a slight panic he went for his default - a burger. I ordered the haggis balls, mac n' cheese and pulled pork tacos. Again ALL vegan! The food came quickly and was great! David's burger although not actually meat was hearty and tasty. My favourite thing was the pulled pork tacos which were actually made from Jack fruit, who'da thought it! This place is great for an informal, relaxed bite and a brew. Oh and we got some free live folk music to boot! Happy days! Cheers, Amy

This place is so good we've been there for lunch 2 days in a row! They have a big menu with lots of different options. Its all hearty, comfort food. The Cheeze tastes like normal cheese, and the seitan passes for steak ! We've loved every meal we've had so far and will probably go back again soon . The flying duck is great for vegans and non vegans. (I really love that all the food is free from animal products)

Delicious vegan food.

Love the Duck! Whether it's for pre-cinema food and coffee, drinks with friends, club nights, quizzes...I've never have a bad time in this place. Cheap drink, tasty vegan food, laid-back atmosphere, games, books, retro games consoles, free wi-fi, excellent music policy. The list goes on and on. We popped in last week before the cinema for a coffee and bite to eat. The soya lattes are seriously amazing. We ordered a burger, some wedges and a hot dog to share and enjoyed it all. The vegan hot dog came smothered in curry spice and sauce, the wedges with a chunky tomato relish and the burger was made from seitan (that's a guess, but it certainly tasted like it). They do a plate of tacos for £2 on a Tuesday, beer and burger for £5 on a Wednesday and student discount. I've been to loads of club nights in here, the music is always brilliant and the dance floor is usually packed with drunken, smiley, happy people. We went to the Lebowski night last year which was a quiz and after party complete with make-shift bowling alley, competitions, vegan White Russians and other delights. Amazing! I hope this place never closes down, one of Glasgow's wee hidden gems.

After my initial iffy experience of the place, I'm so glad I gave The Flying Duck another chance, because it's now a firm favourite of mine. I love that I can come here for beer and a board game in their homely kitchen bar during the day and the friendly staff provide some marvellous music to accompany an ambient afternoon. The Flying Duck also hosts a lot of brilliant club nights including Freakbeats, a sixties and soul night and Common People, a nineties night, complete with nineties bingo and retro prizes. There's always a plate of toast on the go at club nights, which adds to the warm and welcoming feel of the place along with the comfy couches and familiar old furniture. They also do lovely vegan food during the day and it's worth visiting on Taco Tuesday when you can get a tasty plate of tacos made with lentil chilli, alongside some fresh guacamole, salsa and nachos, all for only two quid! The Flying Duck feels like the cosy flat of a friend, who welcomes you in for tea and toast, has an amazing record collection and loves a good booze and boogie.

After reading some great reviews on here about the great range of gluten free food that is on offer I was excited to visit as part of the monthly vegan fete. After wandering around the stalls and sampling some lovely goodies we sat down for some lunch. I chose the mac n cheese with some fries. My friend ordered the savoury waffles and a side of cauli bites. The food is really reasonably priced but wow the portions are huge! I was a little bit dissapointed in my mac n cheese. It just wasnt too my taste. The fries were yummy and the peanut sauce that came with the cauli bites was so yummy!! Next time i will definetly be trying the waffles as they looked so good. As a wee side note the vegan fete had quite a few gluten free items and runs the 2nd sunday of every month so its definetly worth popping in too!

I first went to The Flying Duck a good few years ago in the promise that there was a club in Glasgow that looked like a kitchen. It was true. The novelty still hasn't worn off though. More recently it re-branded itself as an alternative student Union for Glasgow Caledonian University (whose continued failings in providing a good student union peaked by closing it altogether). Me and the same group of friends went virtually every Friday afternoon for 12 weeks and had some £1 drinks, playing board games like Connect 4 that were available on the 'kitchen counter' and got to know the bar staff well who let us listen to playlists on our I-Pods during the day when it wasn't busy. It's a cracking wee place and they are cool with you taking in your own food. The venue was involved in the Hinterland festival, with some quality alternative music in there. It's a good venue to see bands in with decent club nights. The music is definitely 'alternative'. There was some hassle there recently regarding some punters who normally don't go there, at a Boxing Day event. The reputation of the pub remains in my eyes as intact and the trouble wont stop me from going back. A cracking place with decent music and cool bar staff. Recommended.

The wife ordered their "Fisherman" which is pan seared Scottish coley or pollock (for 27 GBP). The battered fish with the chips was more delicately done here and delicious. As an aside I tried several times to find a place here in Glasgow or in Edinburgh that did a "special" fish and chips, that is breaded with crumbs and not battered, but apparently no one does that healthier old school preparation anymore (and I need to inform my old work colleague who hailed from Glasgow and gave me this inside tip that it's not practiced anymore). I also had a Chieftain IPA. The side of peas were dryish and not flavorful and small portioned and not done as well and tasty as I have had in London or Perth, just saying. We also had their sticky toffee pudding with ice cream for dessert and that was good. The fries were mediocre. Server was friendly and attentive. 4 stars overall and a nice local flavor Glasgow outing.

It was a rainy day: drizzling : that consistency of rain that makes you feel a bit run down. I was met with the most delicious, warming coffee: a very smooth latte, that had such a lovely taste that there was no need for a drop of sugar. They were out of most of their pastries by the time I sat in--due to their popularity, I have no doubt. I chose one of their remaining items: a small cake that had a touch of lemon and a raspberry on top of a creamy frosting. It was delicious--a welcomed treat when I felt in need of a pick me up. I did not have a chance to test their food so am unable to comment. Do note however: This is a VERY small place. Cozy to be sure, but small and by no means for larger groups. It is ideal for the soloist and duos to come in and have a fairly quick coffee, cake, and food (I assume). This is NOT a place to study. There are no comfortable lounge chairs, chairs or tables. The seating is composed of stools that reside at two bars. It's kind of reminding me of Italian style cafes where you drink your espresso at the bar, across from the barista who just served it to you (though in Rome, they don't offer you stools even!). Given the level of their coffee and cake, I'll be back again soon.

The garlic butter with it was not needed, but was also amazing, dipped my mashed potatoes in it.
