The contractor that does work at Randy's left glue all over our floor and claims after 3 visits to re check it that it's not his fault. The one thing he could have done was to come and professionally clean it for us. So our flooring has never looked new because dirt clung on the glue. Word to the wise use pay extra and have Randy's lay it not their contractors.

Issues * Instead of taking two days to complete the job, it took nearly two months (8/26/2024 - 10/25/2024) to finally finish the job. * House of Carpets made repeatedly tried adding additional charges to the estimate, even though the Sales Rep (Tom), stated that everything was included within the initial quote. * As part of their service, House of Carpets was supposed to reinstall all the doors that they removed while putting in the new flooring, but the initial installer failed to return. He was the son of the Sales Rep (Tom). * Multiple installers had to come out to finish reinstalling trim and transitions pieces. Note - Some of the transition pieces were not ordered with the flooring, causing part of the two-month delay in completing the job. * The plastic trim on the bottom of our refrigerator was damaged by the initial installer. Also, when reinstalling the quarter round, he failed to realize the pocket door between our kitchen and laundry room. This caused a large scratch along the bottom of the pocket door when we tried to close it. * I had the owner, James Nelson, out to the house after the job was finally complete. After showing and explaining all the issues to him, we settled on a discounted amount. My wife paid this amount within days of my meeting with James, but it took House of Carpets nearly a month and two emails to finally receive an invoice showing a $0.00 balance. Someone within House of Carpets also added a highlighted to note to the invoice stating, "discounted accommodation voids all warranty". James and I never discussed the warranty, nor would I ever agree to this provision. If a warranty issue ever arises and House of Carpets fails to resolve the issue, my wife and I will have to find and HONEST flooring company or installer and sue House of Carpets.

We wanted it to look nice but not overspend because we will be moving soon. The person who helped us at the store (Ryan) greeted us right away. He listened to our needs and showed us good options and respected our budget. We went home with some samples. Once we made the decision on coverings they were able to set up installation. We decided to save money to rip up the old carpeting ourselves. This allowed us to save enough to get a better carpet pad. The carpet and the hardwood were scheduled to be installed on separate days a week apart. This was fine with us. The only problem I had was the installers were late arriving both times. By hours. Don't get me wrong they were very nice gentlemen and they did a good job. But if you have a scheduled time, you should arrive at the scheduled time. I am happy with the floor coverings and the cost. I would go here again.

I called, received no explanation, was assured they would come on the second. They weren't here by noon. I called again. They came at 11:30 and did a 2-day job in 4 hours. I believe there is a huge gap in communication and scheduling here. After 6 weeks of waiting for a phone call we had requested 3 times, we called about several issues. Someone was sent out to glue and repair some areas that were missed. He asked how old the carpet was. I said it was installed in October. He thought I meant the previous year, 2023. That is because after just 6 weeks, it looks worn. He was shocked. He reported this to Bryan, who came out to check for himself. He said the carpet needs to be vacuumed 3-4 times a week. He also said the seams will not be noticeable after a time. He said he would check back with us after the first of the year. It is now 2/2025. Haven't heard anything. Seams still show and looks even more worn. My research shows me Shaw carpet has issues. Tip bloom is when the fibers bloom or bush out. This was never mentioned before purchasing. I would think the more you vacuum it, the more it will bloom. Bottom line is..... I cannot recommend Shaw carpet. Do your research BEFORE buying.

We gave them many opportunities to get it right. We asked the owner to come for an inspection, they…read moresent the same crew each time instead. First off, almost all of the flooring was installed askew. We asked to not have nail hole mudding or calk, they did both, poorly. The owner was very pleasant and immediately sent his crew back out and fixed the flooring. The trim is another story. The edges are raw and ill fitting. They did a "reveal" on some doors and on others chose to cut around the hinge instead. All in all, after asking the owner to come inspect it himself twice, sent the same crew out, not to mention the mess they left after. The owner offered to send them out a 4th time, but it seemed that each time it was worse (dirtier, soiled carpet) when they left so we declined. Also, if you have your air conditioning on, all doors and windows hang WIDE OPEN the whole time. We did pay them and we did get a discount but it was by no means a cheap job. If you don't care about the details, give them a call. It will be done-ish.

I brought a relative with me to check out flooring samples because we were wanting to change out…read moreour carpet. We worked with Ben and it left a bad taste in my mouth when we left. He was a total smartass with me and made me feel like an idiot when I started asking questions about the waterproof aspect of the flooring we were looking at. I asked if this flooring was water-resistant and he told me no, so I said "So any amount water will damage it?" And he told me water will damage any floor when it reaches the floorboards. I told him I understand that but if I spill water on the floor will it seep through and he said "Well you just have to use common sense". When I asked about if the warranty was 20 years or lifetime he said it would be 20 years for me (I'm under 30) but it would outlast my relative so for her it would be considered lifetime (my relative was in her 50's). At some point in the conversation he started talking about another carpet store in Cedar Rapids that was owned by the "ay rabs" (Arabs), he kept talking about how he has no beef with them and saying they were constantly "smoked" because of how much weed they went through. I don't think he was trying to speak badly about anyone but for being a salesman he was an asshole and borderline racist. Not to mention the quote he gave us was almost $900 more than the next carpet store we went to (and they offered better flooring). The receptionist was the only pleasant person we spoke to who made really friendly small talk as we waited for Ben to make copies. All in all I would not recommend this store

I shopped around the Cedar Rapids carpet stores and big box stores, however I ended up back at Jim's Flooring Shop. The flooring was installed to perfection. Jim's prices and workmanship were far better than other times I've bought carpet in the past. I liked doing business with a local businessman who is connected to the city. The carpets were not cleaned properly, and the odor we specifically asked them to address remained, even after they charged us extra for a deodorizer. We contacted them twice afterward to request they come back out, and were told, in essence, that we just needed to deal with it. To make matters worse, we were incorrectly charged twice and had to go through the hassle of addressing the billing error. For the price we paid, we expected professionalism, quality service, and accountability. Instead, we received none of the above. We cannot recommend this company and would strongly suggest others look elsewhere for carpet cleaning services. We will be reporting to the BBB
