Took a while to get our food and there wasn't any cooking involved just soup and half a sandwich the soup was so thin like there was water dumped in to make it last longer, one half of the sandwich was decent, the other half was not acceptable, the chicken was mostly fat and just inedible, the bathrooms weren't super clean, for thirty dollars, a little disappointed. read more

I think this place has good food for sure. Very confusing when you walk in if you are supposed to go to the counter or order from your phone. Sat at a table with the air conditioning blowing hard. This is one meal of a sandwich. The decor is not something that makes you exclaim "Wow! You gotta check this place out!", but has a comfortable, homey feel to it. The furniture is a little outdated, and the floor boards have parted is some places leaving cracks, but this review is for the food. The sandwich: for what you pay you get a full meal. Just the sandwich. Daily specials offer half sandwich and a soup (good God, those are incredible), or just stick with a sandwich. Or dispose of the bread and make it a salad. With options for bread, meat and cheese you won't be disappointed. The filling ratio is well balanced, especially with the bread being more flatbread-ish and not making up for half the 'wich. Round out the meal with hot beverages prepared in house, something from the cooler and/or a baked treat (hello, cinnabun) and you will leave happy. With final words, "Wow! Good-not-great food. Unremarkable service from a friendly staff. Not much of a selection--breakfast options: a burrito, oatmeal, and a frittata sandwich (really, no omelettes?)--with almost no customization possibilities (e.g., couldn't get an egg-white-only frittata). The cinnamon roll was big but quite dry on the inside, though the rose lemonade was tasty and had floral balance. Overall, it's kind of pricey for what you('re able to) get. Won't be a go-to establishment for breakfast/brunch for my wife and me, and I very likely wouldn't go back unless forced to do so. Of course, that's less a targeted indictment against The Fig Bistro than it is a full-throated acknowledgement of the stiff competition located in the Vernon area. read more

I'd been hearing lots of great things since the new owner took over. I tried it today and it was good, not the best I've ever had, but A-OK. I ordered the Thursday special a soup and half ham sandwich. The bread it came on was not fresh and by the time I got it home and ate it 20 minutes later the bread from the veggies was quite soggy. The taste was good though, could have used more ham on it but otherwise very good. whatever sauce they put on it was delicious. I got the ham and corn chowder soup. The soup was a bit salty but all fresh ingredients which I appreciated. The service was friendly and they were fast to get me my order. The place it'self is quite dark inside. They could use some better lighting and tables and chairs were dated. The treats looks good, huge cinnamon buns! I ordered a muffin and it looked amazing but was so dry I wound up throwing it away after one bite Would I go out of my way to eat here....no but if I were in the area and I was hungry I would pop by and sit down in person maybe it would have been a better experience. read more

I'm not a big sandwich fan... I tend to avoid them, but this place has me actually seeking out sandwiches! The food here is all quality, and well-made. The sandwiches are expensive ($12ish) but well worth it since they are a filling meal on their own. I really enjoy the veggie to meat/cheese ratio, mostly veggies so it isn't the meat and carb-bomb you might get elsewhere. I love how they load it with sprouts, and the home-made mayo they use just takes the sandwich to another level. I haven't had anything bad from this place. Tried their potato salad recently and it was delicious as well. Cinnamon buns are great too, particularly how they aren't tooth-achingly sweet like most places. Since being recommended this place a few months ago it has become a regular stop! My only problem is that when I have a lunch sandwich from here, I am too full to have dinner later on. Recommendation: The 9 grain bread with rosemary ham, monterey jack cheese and add cucumber. Incredible. I have to say, I was bummed to hear there were new owners (nothing against them, I just really enjoyed the previous owners and the food, so I was a little sad), but I have to say, the place looks great, the food is still awesome, and the staff was very friendly. I ordered lunch here from this restaurant on the advice of colleagues. The food was quality and masterfully assembled and arranged. I would suggest that this is some of the best deli food I've ever had. Unfortunately David, the new owner felt it was his decision to automatically attach a 15% gratuity to the invoice without my consent. This was nearly $47.00 on a $275 order that was delivered. I always tip for good service, and assume that any deli order being delivered will be attached with a delivery charge... But somehow David seemed to think adding a gratuity to the invoice without my consent was his decision. He said this was necessary to pay his staff - sorry, that's called wages that the owner pays! Tried unsuccessfully to have David reverse the automatic tip and process as a delivery charge, but he would not - only offering me a store credit in the future. Very disappointing. I work in the area, so the restaurant is close and convenient. But I simply hate the sandwiches. They are terrible. In my office sometimes we have free lunch paid for by suppliers, and everyone loves free lunch. But this restaurant is so bad that I actually avoid those meetings in favour of my home made lunch. Some suppliers think they are making a healthy choice that we would enjoy. My lunch from home is healthier and most importantly, my lunch is edible. Don't waste your money on this place. read more
