This is my go to place when I need some local treats as gifts to friends and family. Their Moravian cookies are incredible -- perfectly thin, crisp, and full of that classic, delicate spice flavor. They're addictive in the best way. I got a big tin at a discounted price and wished they have more! And don't even get me started on the Chapel Hill Toffee. It's absolutely amazing -- rich, buttery, and perfectly balanced with chocolate and crunch. You can really taste the quality and care that goes into it, making it hard to leave with just one box. My first experience with this business was outstanding customer service and wonderful products. Today, May 7, 2023, I enter the store to return several items and after transaction I informed the employee that I was going to look around. Their selection is top teir the store is well organized and very clean. Their was another employee there and she was the one who checked me out on my first visit. I think her name is Cindy. As I'm looking around for my items no one ever asked me if I needed any help or what I was looking for. Instead they were into their own conversations talking very loud, laughing loudly just totally rude while customers are in your establishment/business. Could be that I'm a black man in a wheelchair that they ignored me or they just lazy and getting paid to do nothing while robbing their employer. I love this store! While the big chain cooking stores have all the bells and whistles, they can't hold a candle to this family owned business. We were warmly greeted when we walked in and by several other employees while we cruised around. No one followed us and made us feel pressured, they would just check in once in a while to see if we had any questions. If you want something unique, this is the place. They had the best assortment of cooking utensils I've ever seen. Some of them were truly beautiful. I can't think of anything I want to cook with that I couldn't find here. There are high end items and items for the average cook. There are stunning items and humorous items. There is a wonderful selection of gourmet gift items from sauces and teas to things like sweet tea jelly (I've never seen that before, but this is the south) to pecan praline honey butter. Seriously, how can you go wrong with pecan praline honey butter? Since we're into the holiday season, there were lots of stocking stuffer goodies, too. Whenever I need something cool for my own kitchen or for a gift, this will be the place I go. I can't wait for my daughter to get home from her trip so I can take her there. She's gonna love it! We visited The Extra Ingredient last year when I was visiting some friends in Greensboro, NC and we went shopping at Friendly Center. We all enjoyed browsing around the store and found it to have a great collection of cookware, gadgets and tools including some yummy foods, bulk coffees and teas. I was very happy to see that they had a nice website where I could order things from home. If you're looking for a item of high end quality or just something unique for the kitchen loving friend, co-worker, or family member then this is absolutely the store for you to find it in. While I have you I want to share a personal story that just happened. I recently purchased a hand made glazed clay coffee mug from Italy for my wife. She loves tea. Like anything hand made it can sometimes have a flaw. The mug, while it was being held, suddenly for no apparent reason had the handle separate from the mug itself. To say the least it was unexpected. I returned it explaining what had occurred and with no questions asked they replaced it. This isn't a mug of the 5 dollar variety as it sells for over 40 dollars. I was prepared to buy a new one but it never came to that because of the quick and thoughtful customer service I received. Went in to the store to sharpen some knives for my Dad for Father's day. My mom talked to an employee on the phone who said to drop off the knives and did not say that we needed to pay upon arrival. So, my sister and I went to the store where an employee looked at us as if we were idiots and said "well, people usually pay when they drop them off." Okay, simple human error, no problem. We went back to get money and returned to the store to pay for the knives. The lady working the counter who handled our transaction told us to come back the next day "any time after 10:30" to pick up our knives. Me and my sister returned to the shop the next day at 11 am. Once we got in the store, they informed that they hadn't sharpened our knives yet. We then waited 20 minutes to get the knives after they said they would have them done an hour earlier. read more
