I am extremely disappointed that this company continues to delete my review.
Approximately a year ago, I interviewed with this company for a leadership position. Despite holding a master's degree and having more than five years of experience working directly within the local school district and community, I was ultimately told that I was not the right fit for the position.
What made the experience particularly concerning was the way I was treated during the interview process, including being cursed at during an interaction. In subsequent communication with the regional manager, I was told that I was not the "right face" for front-facing customer relations and sales. The company ultimately moved forward with hiring a white woman for the position, and I cannot ignore the racial implications of that experience.
My professional background gave me a unique understanding of the Bellaire community. I had spent years working with schools, knew business owners and principals personally, and had established relationships throughout the area. I was prepared to bring innovative ideas to address what the owner herself described to me as a struggling business--one she was simply trying to "keep the lights on."
I also proposed scholarship and community partnership strategies to address the very real socioeconomic divide within the Bellaire area and create greater access for students from different backgrounds.
I believe strongly in supporting children and creating opportunities for them. That is precisely why this experience was so disappointing. The way I was treated made me question whether this organization truly understands, values, and serves the Black and Brown families and students within the community it operates in.
My concern is bigger than not getting a job. It is about representation, respect, equity, and whether organizations that serve children are genuinely committed to serving ALL children and families.
I will continue to speak honestly about my experience. Deleting a review does not erase what happened, nor does it change the questions this experience raised for me.
This was unacceptable, and I believe the community deserves better. read more
