I got SAT tutoring from them and it unquestionably helped me. I would say that it boosted my SAT score by 50-100 points.

She's currently in high school and we utilize them to keep her competitive with her peers. That said, commitment is crucial to see a difference. My son has had a bit of a hard time with reading comprehension. We saw a big difference in his grades after a few months at sylvan. He wasn't always eager to go but understood it was crucial to be able to keep up with his GT program. We are very pleased and could not have made a better investment.

Not a fan. We paid a sharp fee, for tutoring for our son who is 9 years old. This assessment finds every strength and weakness of your child. When we started going over it together, there were ones that were definitely questionably written. But they do this on purpose to try to get you to sign up (which I get). My son attended Sylvan for 4 months, and we had multiple incidents with the tutors (former teachers). They were unprofessional. When there was a problem addressed, we brought it up to the owner who assured us he would address it with his teacher, and there was a clear disconnection in communication with the two. The next week we found out she was gone, and there was another teacher. She didn't seem too much better. At drop off I came to pick up my son, and used the bathroom and I noticed the trash overflowing... When my son did not progress in reading, they recommended we come for longer, and more days a week. We already were coming 1 hour 3 times a week. He was clearly exhausted. We brought some of his homework in, and the teacher erased all the answers that he had done and made him start from the beginning (this is after we had worked with him on his homework for 2 hours prior). Bottom line, don't waste your money here.

I took the course both times with Mark Alan Robinson. Initially I was steadfast with my engineering "must-solve" mentality and didn't get out of the course as much as I potentially could have 1st time around. The second time was completely different, I took to Marks "unorthodox" approach to viewing problems and solutions to not only make the GMAT more fun, but also taught me the values that CEO's carry with them at all times, but most interestingly, these values were simple enough for a 6 year old to understand. He is very knowledgeable and is very easily accessible outside of class, especially for such a busy individual. His examples usually revolve around people or instances and these tend to stick a lot better than conventional teaching methods (for me personally at least). I highly recommend anybody looking for help with the GMAT to look out for his class. The only thing I'd say is you need to patient and buy into his methods, they may frustrate you initially, but in the longer run, are very valuable information and practices.

( V35, V36, V34, V30, V35....) My math has always been strong (47-49) but something subtle behind the way I was approaching verbal was setting me back. Mark taught me how to look at verbal like math by "decoding the matrix" and after taking 10 hours with him, I suddenly clicked. I feel that Mark's approach to teaching not only helped me look at the GMAT in a different light, but also helped by relating it to my everyday life, making it not as dull and monotonous to study. Mark is very energetic and very personable. He really dug in deep with my weaknesses and accessed how I approached the problems. Some things that he taught me are even applicable outside the GMAT. As mentioned, after I tried many resources and tutors, Mark was the one that finally unlocked my testing to V40. Highly recommend Mark Alan Robinson for private tutoring! After being discouraged and told to aim low by a competing college advisory firm, At Home Tutoring Service encouraged my child to aim high, and my child ended up at my child's first choice Ivy League school. Details: After feeling that I had wasted a sizable flat fee with competing college advisory firm Doran & Scalora (see review of that firm for details), I hired Alexander Wax on an hourly basis after my child's junior year of high school. From the start, Alexandra Wax encouraged my child to aim high, shared insights about college communities that would be a fit or not, identified admissions departments' preferences to guide essay drafting, and provided constructive criticism that pushed by child to produce creative and thoughtful essays. Alexandra's advice always made sense and reflected extensive experience and a broad network of admissions officers. The few times I asked why Alexandra had made a certain recommendation, Alexandra easily explained her reasoning, citing inside sources as well as publicly available information. My child loved working with Alexandra and remained excited and motivated throughout the college application process. I feel Alexandra's service was invaluable and worth-every-penny-and-more! I plan to hire At Home Tutoring Service again when my next child is ready to apply to college.

With their systematic and layered approach to teaching kids math and english, Kumon has enabled my kids to build strong conceptual foundations. This has in turn been a key factor in their not only navigating but excelling at school and beyond. The "Kumon way" built up their confidence steadily while letting them set and find their own pace of learning. Their teaching methodology and philosophy makes kids "teach themselves" and become confident, independent learners. The instructors are always close at hand while the students work through new material and master old material in a calm and focused environment, providing them guidance and support whenever they need it. In addition to these core benefits, Kumon has had many other satellite or "meta" benefits. For instance, the passages my daughter read in Kumon higher level reading exposed her to many interesting subjects outside of academics. Regular practice of the Kumon method also helped her develop singleminded focus upon the task/subject at hand. The last "meta" benefit has been critical to her being able to handle the heightened pressures of high school at Debakey High School, which is one of the most acclaimed and competitive high schools in Houston. My daughter was fortunate to be one of the select few kumon students from across North America to be invited to the "Kumon North America Conference", which was not only a great honor for us, but also a wonderful experience - she got to meet and hear from peers and former Kumon students / graduates all of whom are now highly successful and well-rounded students or professionals. She also got to speak at the conference and have the leadership opportunity to have a positive impact on the community of her peers and juniors. My wife and I are tremendously grateful to the lead instructors, Chitra and Lata, and teachers Ms. Asha and Ms. Neeta for always working with us to find flexible and personalized learning paths for our kids, and guiding us through our kids' learning journey.

I highly recommend this Kumon to any parents out there if your child needs further help or advance in their Math and English.
