hidden gem on the UES! downstairs, removed from the street, dimly lit romantic little joint. superrr cute and cozy bar right when you walk in. tables in the back. coat check was great because there's not much room to put a jacket at the table. croquettes were a special- little cold on the inside but still yummy. burger was solid! kale caesar is always good (with bacon, crunchy croutons, anchovies and a runny egg)

There are 3 small stairs down to the front door (I'm sure there is a handicap accessible ramp somewhere but just wanted to point it out). We dined for brunch at the outdoor patio (there's also a space heater if needed) and street dining. The inside looked beautiful and opens to bar top seating and then dining area. We had great service but expect really pricey coffee ($7-9) and entrees ($40pp after tip without coffee). We shared 2 dishes and both were very delicious! The eggs benedict ($27) was cooked perfectly with a rich hollandaise. I asked for the home fries cooked well done and they were absolutely crispy and lightly seasoned to perfection! The portion of the thick cooked bacon was generous. The macro Bowl ($35) was very filling with a creamy tahini dressing. The dish is presented deconstructed but forms a great bowl when mixed together! I would definitely come here if the dishes were just $10 less but a great experience overall!

Great Sunday brunch in this cosy eatery. Pumpkin bread was fresh, warm and tasty. Enjoyed their special andouille omelette. The eggs Benedict came with delicious thick slices of bacon. Frittata was a tad bland. Definitely worth a visit. The service was excellent. Our host Pete was wonderful and we enjoyed a special experience.

I recently attended a private 30th birthday celebration at The East Pole, and it was a fantastic experience. The venue is beautifully designed with a cozy yet upscale vibe, perfect for an intimate gathering. The upstairs party room does have a very narrow staircase and only one bathroom as well. Which wasn't an issue until the end of the evening where you'd have to go downstairs to use the other restroom. The location is great, tucked away on the Upper East Side, making it accessible but not too touristy. The staff were attentive, and the food was delicious. We had a dinner party menu which was delicious. Upon arrival was standing cocktails and appetizers. Their mini crab cakes were phenomenal. I'm convinced I ate an entire tray myself. I ordered the black angus skirt steak which was cooked to my rare preference of temperature. The servers took note and did great with my food allergy as some places don't always take you serious. They brought out separate of the sides for just me as I couldn't eat many things with a mushroom/truffle allergy. The private dining space was ideal for our group, offering just the right amount of privacy while still being part of the overall ambiance. However I would say it's definitely a tight space when everyone is up and standing. I would definitely recommend The East Pole for anyone looking to host a special event or celebration. Only reason for 4 stars is that it did get a bit tight and the limited bathroom design.

    A local legend hosts.

Lovely drinks, food, and wine and a local legend hosts at the door. You may rent private spaces for undisturbed dining. But beware, pay only cash. Recently, our drinks took very long to arrive. It was late at night and not crowded. It was odd because the service is usually speedy. My friend left her credit card with the bartender as they requested us to run a tab. Unfortunately, someone there tried to use the credit card at that time in another country for thousands of dollars. Luckily, she doesn't use the card much so the charges were denied. Hopefully it's just one employee who after we reported it was asked to leave. We will try again, and this time bring cash. Details will follow if we return.

Gorgeous place with amazing drinks and menu. Rashid our bartender and Brian the manager were both amazing- when they found out it was a special day for me they sent my friend and I a glass of champagne in addition to our drink order. The perfect place for a special occasion or a dinner with loved ones definitely will be back!

Moscow mules - AMAZING and a must try!
    Megan P.

Literally rating this restaurant 10 / 10. Everything start to finish was incredible. The Moscow mules were probably one of the best I've had in a while (would literally come back just for them!). As starters we had the burrata, salmon tartare, oysters and kale Cesar. Each appetizer was better then the last. Highly recommend all of them! For dinner we shared the pappardelle with lamb which was absolutely out of this world. The ambiance also made the experience that much better. If you sit towards the back (which I highly recommend), there are beautiful sky lights which give amazing natural light. Also fun fact: the outside of the restaurant (which has great outdoor seating) is featured in sex and the city when Carrie is wondering around UES :-)

Excellent!!! Love it here! One of my favorite restaurants in the neighborhood. Cozy vibe and classy environment.

I brought my 2 kids and my husband there on my birthday. The Food there is ok, but the service is .... Eh... well, not so good. I reserved my table on OpenTable, and when I arrived, I just asked if I can sit at a more private table at the end corner, as I have kids, I don't want to disturb other ppl. But the lady said no, and told me those table are for reservations only. Well I reserved, what's the point? And they put us at the middle entrance (first table where everyone : the customers and waitresses can pass by) Whatever Put in a good way, they have special attitude or "Arrogant" in an elegant way you can say, but if only you are non white ppl you might experience that, And to be honest, I don't want to think that way, but I felt that way. I'm Sorry if I'm wrong. But you can go and feel it by yourself, at least their EGGS BENEDICT in brunch manu is quite tasty.

The food is always amazing and the ambience is great. We went for brunch and the amazing bartender Michaela made me a kombucha drink that was amazing.

The best place. Sitting in the Bar ordering drinks& side dishes here is sooo cozy! An amazing ambiance w really good drinks & food!!! The girl who served me both of my times there was the kindest & best bartender ever!!!

Both failed epically. The bone marrow was inedible as it was like cold custard. Escargot had zero flavor and a real lack of garlic and good butter. Tasted more like vegetable oil than good butter. We shared the lobster pasta entree. Tasted more like Mexican goulash. No Italian flavors to be found in the sauce. Never once did the nameless waiter stop and inquire about our meal. Just all around a poor experience and a disappointing Friday night. There are far better places that appreciate your patronage. We will not be coming back. Not worth it.

The front part where you first walk in is the bar area with some tables. This restaurant is on the darker side and brings you back in time. Once you walk in further that is where the main dinning room is. This is also on the darker side as you can maybe tell by my photos. The wall paper and art around the restaurant is cool and there are some monkey statues around the restaurant. I was seated in a corner table in a booth area that seemed to be for at least 2-3 people. I thought for sure they would seat me at the bar area. I had a wonderful waitress whose name I think was Taylor but I could be wrong. I ordered the Monkey bread to start off with. It's a very buttery bread with truffle and parm cheese on top. I have alot of allergies and I was searching online if I could even have truffles as I have a nut allergy. So, I asked the waitress and she said she had never heard this. But, she came back to me and told me that White truffle grows near or like over where Almonds grow from but that, they don't use white truffle so I was all good. Well, this was super nice of her to check for me. I had no idea she was going to do this. She said the restaurant has strict protocols when it comes to food allergies. I then got for my main dish the double cheese burger with onions and pickles. To drink I had the cucumber martini. WOW everything was pretty darn good!! I passed on dessert. The broccoli was really good for some reason to me. Also tried the truffle mac and cheese which was incredibly rich and tasted great. As a dessert, we had the chocolate pie which was dense, rich, and topped with a huge dollop of whipped topping. I really liked the atmosphere of the place, loud roaring 20s style with jazz playing. I've heard "Lunch at The Modern" so many times, one thing I was absolutely going to do during this…read moretrip to NYC was lunch at The Modern, and I'm so glad I did. Located at MoMA, The Modern is a 2 Michelin star restaurant hosting both fine dining, showcasing Chef Thomas Allan's cuisine, and a more casual dining experience in The Bar Room. The restaurant is gorgeous and has a giant glass wall overlooking MoMA's Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden, a lovely view. There is an abridged tasting menu of 3 courses, but we opted for the full chef's menu cause we didn't want to miss their signature "eggs on eggs on eggs" and after the supplemental charge, the price was close enough. - Hiramasa and sugar snap peas/crispy ham and cheese--simple and delicious, with the hiramasa being light and fresh and the ham and cheese providing a deeply savory contrast - Chilled lobster, shiso, and green radish--the lobster was cold and sweet but as a personal preference, I don't really enjoy bitter flavors and the slice of lemon under the radish threw it off a bit - Eggs on eggs on eggs--words cannot adequately describe the unctuousness of this dish, it's like eating rich, buttery velvet on a crispy, fluffy log of brioche. As a bonus, they bring you an extra toast to mop up all the tasty bits - Pumpkin seed sourdough and cultured butter--okay I totally didn't know this was meant to be eaten with the next dish so given total lack of self control in the face of pillowy fresh bread and perhaps the smoothest butter on the planet, I may or may not have eaten it all before the trout showed up... they were nice enough to give us more :') - Sea trout with clams and saffron shellfish broth--the fish was cooked to literal perfection and the clam and saffron sauce enhanced everything even more. This fights with the chicken dish for spot #2 in my favorites of this meal - Heritage chicken, provençal asparagus, vin jaune--this reminds me of the stuffed chicken from Per Se and was cooked just as well. The vin jaune sauce was slightly nutty with an incredibly rich flavor and also went well with the bread - Lamb saddle, romanesco, and lemon poached dates--for some reason I thought the chicken was the final savory course and I did not pace myself at all and was so full by this point. The lamb was tender and the date was a wonderful bite though - Wild strawberries and cacao--I can't remember what was all in this but I loved the little wild strawberries as they were like delicious strawberry gummies - Dark chocolate cremeux, meyer lemon, and espresso--delicious with interesting flavors, I haven't had many lemon, chocolate, and coffee combinations - Mignardises of raspberry, lemon coconut, cherry cheesecake--only one I tried was the cherry cheesecake bonbon but my husband ate 'em all so they must've been good lol The MVP of this meal was the melon lemonade mocktail, made with honeydew, jasmine, and pandan. Might be the most perfect drink for me ever made because it was melony with a subtle floral note from the pandan and jasmine, and only lightly sweet and tart, everything I love. Sooooo good! Service was pretty good up until we wanted to pay, and for some reason it became really difficult to find someone to close us out. We waited almost 20 minutes between the mignardises and finally being able to pay, even actively looking around trying to flag someone down. Despite The Modern not being the most innovative of meals, it's easily one of my all time favorites. I definitely prefer food that's executed well over food that's pushing boundaries, and may be back any time I'm in town.

Hands down the best restaurant experience my wife and I have ever had…read more We wanted to treat ourselves for our anniversary, and I had recently watched their Bon Appétit behind-the-scenes video. Their entire operation seemed so incredibly focused, meticulous, and inspiring that we knew we had to try it. We started with the Iberico ham and the hiramasa tart, both incredible. Then came the chilled lobster, which was super fresh and refreshing, served with an amazing sauce that made me want to lick the plate clean. Every dish felt refined without being overly complicated. The service was extraordinary. You can immediately tell the front-of-house team is operating at an extremely high level and is aware of everything happening in the room at all times. At one point, my wife stepped away to use the restroom just as they were about to serve the first course. Without saying a word or making anything awkward, the staff simply looped around a couple of times until she returned. The moment she sat down, they resumed service seamlessly without missing a beat. That level of awareness and professionalism really stood out to us. Next came the rye bread, which was fresh and crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, paired with delicious butter. Then we had the sea bass with crab, which was phenomenal and one of my favorite dishes of the night. But the true star of the show for me was the lamb. My wife and I grill lamb racks often, and I genuinely had no idea this level of perfection existed. It was cooked flawlessly, and the sauce was absolutely incredible. If I was not in public, I probably would have been scraping the bone clean :) Big shoutout to one of the staff members, Stephanie, who completely made our night. We were telling her how excited we were to finally visit after watching the Bon Appétit video, and she casually asked if we wanted a tour of the kitchen after dinner. Honestly, I thought she was joking at first. Then she came back after dessert and reminded us. Even after paying the bill, I still thought maybe she was kidding, but then she walked over smiling and said, "Let's go." My wife and I were completely geeked out. Seeing the kitchen in person was surreal. It was exactly like the video: super meticulous, orders being called out and repeated in unison, everyone moving with total precision and purpose. You could see the Omega clock, the Michelin stars on the wall, and just the overall culture of excellence behind everything they do. We were honestly in awe. Thank you again, Stephanie. That experience meant so much to us. Every time we visit a fine dining restaurant for a special occasion, I always wonder whether it will truly live up to the hype. Some completely miss the mark. Some are very good. But none have delivered on every aspect the way The Modern did. This is officially our favorite restaurant in the world.
