If you love carbs as much as me, then this place will be a blessing to you. There's many excellent pasta and noodle dishes with love. A lot of good ingredients. There are great appetizers too.

Their menu was limited as they were doing some special event. I still found a decent noodle dish to order. They did not have any protein add-ons (though good quality noodles have more protein than most people think). I added a side salad, which came out first. You know you're in the deep south when you're looking at a mound of cheese and somewhere under there is some vegetables coated in ranch dressing. But it was pretty good for what it was. My lavender lemonade delivered taste (and the aftertaste you get with lavender). My noodle dish was quite substantial and had some fresh-tasting vegetables. The flavor was mild and a bit sweet, and I could have gone for something spicier before realizing that they had the option to order it spicy and I did not take it (and wasn't asked). Altogether, a nice meal, not perfect, but you'll drive a long way looking for vegetarian-friendly food around here.

We really enjoyed them with the barbecue and the ranch. The burgers were solid. Toppings were plenty full and fresh. Unexpected gem in Beckley.

So naturally I wondered... could there possibly be more where that came from? Why yes -- Tyler is her name, and she was absolutely phenomenal Handling a surprise, out-of-nowhere busy night solo, and doing it with grace, warmth, and hustle. Meanwhile, the Queens in the back -- Stella and Sarah -- worked their magic and made me something special tonight aptly named "The Queen": the Bistro's take on a classic French dip And for context... I've eaten more French dips than I can count, including the Real Deal from Philippe The Original in LA. This one? Really good. Perfectly seasoned, beautifully dressed with veggies, fantastic local bread, and as always... THOSE CHIPS. Add a side of the onion dip and honestly -- my God so good. Thank you again, Black Circle Bistro, for another unforgettable trip through the menu. Many more to come. (And yes, I didn't take photos -- I know, I'm the worst. They absolutely deserved them )

The Magnolia House - Sunday dinner

The Magnolia House on Park is a hidden gem nestled by the river at the end of the street. The covered screened-in porch is set for multi-season use, with ceiling fans and multiple fireplaces. We were promptly greeted and chose a corner table (which was custom-built from 100-year old barn wood). The menu changes daily along with a selection of entree salads. We decided to dine "family style" and chose chicken and dumplings and meatloaf. Our sides included a house salad (I had the house-made orange zest dressing; my companion chose Thousand Island), green beans, mashed potatoes, and corn. These were served with rolls that literally melted in your mouth. Before the main course was served, we enjoyed some of the best fried green tomatoes we've ever eaten. The portions are generous, and they gladly boxed up our leftovers--and I look forward to having those tomorrow. Though we were thoroughly satisfied, we were unable to pass on dessert--all homemade. I had the lemon berry mascarpone cake, which was served with a side of fresh whipped cream. My friend had the pumpkin pie--which was the perfect taste of fall. We both had Magnolia Iced tea --garnished with lemon, orange, and a sprig of organic mint. Bottomless refills are available, and our attentive server kept our glasses filled. We had the distinct pleasure of meeting the proprietor/cook, her daughter (our server) and her mother. Magnolia House on Park is a labor of love--something that shines through in every bite. Before we left, we enjoyed some retail therapy in the boutique, which features items from local artisans and books from local authors. We can't wait for our next visit!
