The Eagle Theatre used to have great quality productions, but now they only have a few each year and mostly children's productions. I did enjoy the recent production of Oklahoma, although the lead had some vocal issues. Other than that, it's been very limited in their offerings. Very disappointed in the current management. Not sure what has happened to a fine small theatre, but it's definitely gone down hill. read more

This is a wonderful professional theatre located in downtown Hammonton - exactly halfway between Philadelphia and the shore (Atlantic Ocean). Every seat in the house is great to see the top-notch productions. Right now they are performing the Frank Wildhorn musical "Bonnie & Clyde" that was on Broadway a couple of years ago. It is a totally awesome show - acting, singing, orchestra, staging.....one of the best theatre evenings I've enjoyed in the last year. Miss seeing "Bonnie & Clyde" at your own loss! Just saw our fifth performance at The Eagle - and will be back for more. Season tickets are the way to go. Best entertainment bargain in South Jersey, only partially due to the price. The talent they bring in is exceptional. The competition to perform there is deep and nationwide. Thousands of talented, credentialed, and experienced actors and others want to be a part of this phenomenal place. Donna and I just saw "John & Jen." The duo of Adam Hoyak and Kimberly Suskind were wonderful. Their passion for their craft shines through and we experienced our first standing ovation there - a well-deserved celebration for these actors and their performance. We have seen Adam three times now at The Eagle and his range is extraordinary. Do NOT miss him in The Eagle's next production - "Peter and the Dreamcatcher." We already have our date picked out! They say it is "the prequel to Peter Pan that you never knew." Plus - there is still time to go and see "John & Jen." The Eagle - a local gem - a regional treasure! You MUST give this theater a try. Godspell last night and to quote another Yelper, "Amazing." So much talent. Singing and acting as good as it gets. I was especially happy with the way they updated the original to include some contemporary references in the dialog. Really have never been disappointed in a show here. read more

Eagle Theatre has done it again. Went to see Godspell. I have been a fan of this musical since I was a teenager. It has been a number of years since I have seen it thought. It was a delight to to be immersed into this show once again. When I say immersed, I mean the way this production is done you feel like you are a part of the show. The theatre has been set up so audience members sit on 2 sides of the staging. The staging reaches out into the audience and the cast move in and out of the audience interactIng with audience members. The dialogue has been updated in a manner that will enable the audience to relate to it. The music is still wonderful, but it too has been updated in places to reflect music of contemporary times. Acting and singing was great. Each of the cast brought their personalities to the characters. The only drawback was that at times I had difficulty hearing what they were singing. It didn't deter from enjoying the show, but definitely would have helped if enunciation wasn't lost in the singing of the cast parts. I was surprised to find out that the people who came with me had never heard or seen the show before. I was glad to introduce some people this show; especially with the way it was presented. read more

I just saw John and Jen and it was fantastic. Another great show at the Eagle theater. The local talent showcased at the Los venue is a hidden gem. After seeing The King of East Jabib I knew I would come back. I purchased the season pass, for a phenomenal price and have seen Godspell, Rock of Ages and John and Jen. I can't wait to see what's up next. If you love the theater then you really should see a production at the Eagle theater. read more

Ok I felt really strongly about writing a review about their production of The Last Five years. To start, both of the actors were very very talented singers!! They had beautiful voices. However, I was really disappointed with how they told the story-I felt that the whole story was missing. I also disagreed with how the director chose to not have them on the stage at the same time for certain scenes; you weren't able to see or understand their relationship at all . They also left out a lot of details and it wasn't really clear that both people in the relationship are at fault- you didn't see or get any tension between the two or how their relationship really began to unfold. If I hadn't already been familiar with the show I feel I would have walked out not knowing what it was about at all. Aside from the story, I really wish that the actors were more confident and emotional and animated. Jamie especially chose to use his head voice instead of belting at a lot of crucial parts where emotion was important. I'm also a really big fan of the show in general and I just wish that they showed more passion and connection with their characters. There were also a lot of missed marks (the Shmuel Song, A Miracle Would Happen), where I think the audience would have really enjoyed that humor and it wasn't really delivered. But again, the actors were amazing singers and the one who played Jamie actually really sounded like Jeremey Jordan. Still had a very fun night!! read more

Visited this place tonight to see Catch Me If You Can. I had called a couple weeks before to change the day on my ticket. Today when I arrived they didn't have the change in their system. It was a sold out show but they were able to squeeze my husband and I in. They were very friendly and concerned about the mix up. The show itself was great! I went in expecting a little mom and pop show and I was so surprised with the talent and how they made a small space feel so large! We will def. be going back for another show, it was a great time! read more

Last night was my first time seeing a show at The Eagle Theater - not only will I be back for more, but I'm going to do it right away. This production of Peter and the Star Catcher was phenomenal on every level. Let's start with the play - it is smart in every sense of the word, and straight up - hilarious! The acting, across the board, was exceptional. It was one of those experiences where I felt as if I didn't know who to watch because they were all so amazing. The director has a clear vision for this piece, and executes it flawlessly. He made incredible use of the space (kudos to the set design as well), creating an immersive experience that you have to see to really understand. As if that were not enough, there is a musical team that sings, plays instruments, and provides sound effects that are awe-inspiring. Their timing was exceptional. In sum, this production is a must see. I am already in the process of scheduling my return visit for next weekend with a group of my friends and family. Whatever you do, don't miss The Eagle's Peter and the Star Catcher. read more

Wow, wow, WOW!!! I absolutely love the show "GODSPELL". I have seen it, literally, dozens of times; and have performed in several productions. I was, therefore a bit leery of a production that is not a replica of the beloved original. This exuberant, energetic, magnificent performance quickly dispelled my fears. I will go back to see it again and again to share with other friends to whom this fabulous show has tremendous meaning. I can't praise enough! The concept, the creativity, the direction, the music, the set, the choreography, the chemistry - all flawless perfection! Kudos to Ted Wioncek and his brilliant cast and crew! I saw "The Wiz" down in Jupiter at the Maltz theater a couple of weeks ago. It was an impressive production. When I saw the donor list I was dumb-founded. The amount of money that had been donated was unbelievably extreme. Fifteen million has been donated by the Maltz family and there are several other "extreme" gifts. I just felt if only the Eagle Theater in Hammonton, NJ could get a small fraction of what is gifted to that theater. Once again I was treated to an amazing theatrical experience at the Eagle Theater when I saw Catch Me if You Can. It just does not seem fair. So grateful that for 30 dollars, I can have an experience that is different but equal to any Broadway show or for that matter equal to a production at a theater that gets several millions in gifts in one year. Just wondering if even the NY theaters get that kind of support? read more

I have now seen two productions at Eagle, and I look forward to seeing many more. The level of singing is consistency excellent (I saw Heathers and John & Jen), and it's a lovely, intimate space where every audience member gets a good seat with a clear view of the stage. They manage to do a lot with a small stage. I highly recommend seeing John & Jen before it closes. The two singers are fabulous, the songs are fun to listen to, and it's a very touching story. Rather than recycling tired productions of classics, they find ways to reinvigorate the text, adding something unique to shows you may have seen many times over. They are also devoted to the community, highlighting new plays and emerging playwrights from the region, pulling the best talent from Philly and New Jersey, and pairing with a local winery. A few shows have been okay but the new owners of the theater are not. Curtain speeches are waaaaay too long and self-gratifying for the person who does them. I am here to see a show, not some oddball making stupid jokes. I also know a few people who used to perform there and am told that there is a LOT of nepitism that goes on there, so they have moved on. It's a shame because these people are very very talented but talent doesn't seem to matter there. It's all about casting their friends and family, even if they are horrible actors. I won't return again, even if the tickets are free. AND I hear now that they offer wine. That is understandable as it will be much easier to enjoy one of their shows when you are intoxicated... But wait... they are selling wine and yet are a non-profit organization? The place is nothing but a farce. Go see theater elsewhere. There are plenty of other, more professional theaters in the area. read more
